I’m giving this book 3 stars because of my mixed feelings about it. The synopsis sounds great, “evil does not die, it seeks vengeance.” That’s sounds super cool. However, I didn’t feel that The Tall Dark Man was a cool evil guy. Now I haven’t read the other books, it says it’s a fourth book but it’s not stated on the GoodReads title. So, he could be a good bad guy in the previous stories, but all he does in this one is have sex with witches. I honestly don’t understand why everyone fears him. Saying that, I did enjoy some of the other characters. There are many POV’s in this, and it did bother me that they would start in a different paragraph instead of getting their own chapter, but they were still good. My favorites were Chloe and Amber. Also Malakai and I think Zaraquel was my favorite. The Hunter was very interesting. At first I thought it weird that he was able to speak telepathically but it was a nice take of having him being able to control the witch and already be such a strong hunter.

Now I love anything supernatural and will read almost anything so I was excited to find this series and start something new. This book is definitely action packed all the way through which I love but it was also very hard to follow along with at times. It is told from so many varying perspectives that at times I felt lost and just couldn’t quite get pulled into the storyline as I have been with other books. This book was also a bit different in the fact that it is part of the blood prophecy series but also the first book in a new trilogy focusing on the tall dark man. This is the fight of good vs. evil where we are not exactly sure who will win. It is about evil raising an army to begin another battle of who will control all. Can good succeed against this formidable enemy with vengeance and revenge in his mind? If you like good vs. evil, and books about witches, vampires, and other supernatural elements then this series is right up your alley. You may want to read the first books in this series because it will give you far more back story on the characters in this one. There are several old characters but also plenty of new ones. It is a bit tricky to follow along with what is happening with the several jumps between characters and time periods but there is a lot of action to keep you intrigued.

Having read the first book in this series, the author did not disappoint in delivering a horrific continuation of the story of Alda and the dark magic that consumes its world. Similar to the first book, it’s sectioned into almost a collection of short stories that build an overall world and characters and creatures unimaginable. The author’s detail of scenery, however, provides a clear picture of the horrors encountered. It is a slow and somewhat tedious read, but the way it unfolds along the way makes it so worth it, full of unpredictable twists that will make your jaw drop. I’m both scared and excited to see what happens next and I’m really rooting for some positive gains after the huge setback revealed in this leg of the journey.

Book 1 was amazing leading to drama, secrets, mystery, and suspense. Seeing how the world of Alda was falling apart because the 55 seals were being broken now in the 2nd book leads us off to find out more about the secrets and how the world is being controlled and how the Black Gnarls are getting their strength. Russell Archey did an amazing job on both books.

Russell Archey has got my mind in all these little stories about the world Alda that needs saving from this Sinster entity called Obscure Throne. Hearing that every magical creature is leaving Alda behind is sad. Reflecting on this world and Biblical stories evil also tries to dominate something that good has created for those who want to be part of it. But in stories like this one evil seems to be winning. If anyone likes fantasy stories this is a great book to seek the different sides of the story. 5 stars for creation and characters 4 stars for sadness

In this dark fantasy you’ll see action, drama, mystery, and suspense. The story has great characters and will mold you into the dystopian feel. I recommend reading the first book in this series, ‘Ashes of Aldyr’ before reading Ghosts of Alda. A good story that will take you into a wild place.

I’m a romance reader through and through but I always challenge myself to pick up something out of my comfort zone every now and then. This one caught my eye so I decided why not. I was so glad I found it. This story took me on quite the ride in a world I didn’t want to leave. The characters and storyline are so well written you just simply sink into the pages while the outside world passes by. From start to finish I was completely hooked and couldn’t put this book down. This is a newer author to me but I’m really excited for more. I’m really looking forward to the next book and highly recommend this one to anyone who asks. Four big stars! Can’t wait for the next one!

I found this trilogy when I dared myself to read something outside my usual romance type stories. I’m a firm believer in trying something new every now and then to see if I’d enjoy more than just a romance. Boy was I surprised when this and book one became a couple of my favorite books. This author has a unique idea in this storyline and I love how different it is. From page one I promise you will find yourself drawn into the pages and never once missing to real world. I can’t wait for more. I’ll be on pins and needles waiting for the next but I just know it will be well worth the wait. Four stars and highly recommended.

I read this book first and definitely got a bit lost, so my tip is to start with the first book as intended! After orienting myself, I was able to dive into this book headfirst and get completely absorbed into the world that Russell Archey has created. I would say that this is one of my favorite genres so I can be a tad picky when reading new books under this umbrella. I’m happy to say that The Obscured Throne is one of my top favorite series in the past couple years and have already recommended it to quite a few of my friends. If you’d like to get lost in a darker fantasy story, this is definitely for you. Be sure to start with the first book in the series so you don’t have to double-back like I did. I highly recommend picking this up as you won’t be disappointed!

This was a great second in this series! I would recommend reading the first book so you can really dive into the storyline. This story will keep you engaged throughout the entire book. I really enjoy the characters in this series and am really looking forward to book 3. The cover alone pulled me in just like the first book. The characters have a lot of growth and you get to read from multiple perspectives. This is a darker fantasy read but I was not disappointed at all and am a huge fantasy fan! This is a fast paced book but make sure to have some time set aside because you will not want to put it down! It feels like this book picks up right where the first left off so be ready!

This is the second book in The Obscured Throne Trilogy. I would definately recommend reading the first book as it sets the story up and takes you on the beginnings of the adventure to where the characters find themselves in this book. This second installment continues and follows on from the first books ends. As soon as I started reading it I was dragged back into this world, where currently evil is residing and destroying everything in its path.
A group of people survived the Rupture and this is their stories. Told from different perspectives the reader gets an insight into each individuals struggles to survive in a world where evil reigns, you get to read all about their struggles and battles and how each of them is fighting to find ways the over come the evil destroying their world. All of the characters are well written and unique and each has a story to tell. The reader can’t helped but be dragged into their lives, pain and struggles as good trys to triumph. It isn’t all dark though there is some hope that they can defeat evil but finding a way is the challenging part. This story is full of adventure, secrets, mystery and magic that will keep you hooked from beginning to end. I can’t wait to read the final installment of this Trilogy.

This second book was incredibly riveting for me. I kept reading page after page and I just couldn’t stop. In this gothic fantasy, it continues where book 1 left off, so if you haven’t read that one yet, I highly suggest going back and reading it first, or you will find yourself thoroughly confused as to what is going on. The stage is set and the characters have their places, and ready to give you their story, which the author does wonderfully. He pulls you in swiftly and forcefully and keeps you there with each word written on the page. The Fifth Magic is continually sustaining the inhabitants of Alda, but with the Black Gnarl is also growing in power, and its Obscure Throne’s Eldritch inheritors have their own plot and schemes going on as well. I can’t wait to see what happens in book 3, and the conclusion to this story!

I began this series in book two and was lost, so to really enjoy and understand I had to leave this book and start with the first. I am so glad I did because this is one of my new favorite series and will give all of Russel Archey’s works a chance, hoping he dazzles me like he did with this series. It began in book one with a tear in the sky that allowed a much darker world to leak into Alda. Book two is a continuation of the chronicling of the dying world told from all different characters. There is so much dread and adventure in this series that you can’t shake it from your mind just because it is finished. I only wish I had book three out because I keep reliving my favorite tales and impatiently waiting for more. This is one of my new favorite authors in my already favorite genre – a rare find!

This is book two to the series The Obscured Throne Trilogy, this book picked right up from the first book. This book is a dark horror fantasy in the land of Alda. This has multiple different viewpoints of each character; it goes thou their struggles to survive in this post-apocalyptic world. The rupture destroyed the world and the magical Aldyr trees. This book is filled with so much from suspense, drama, mystery, magic, secrets, danger that it will be hard to put down. It was so vivid like the first book it makes you feel like you are right there beside the characters, feeling, and doing what they are doing. I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn’t wait to know what was going to happen next. This book had me invested and intrigued till the end. Highly recommend reading the very first book. Cannot wait till book three.

This book sounded very interesting to me and I have read other books by this author. There is a lot going on in this book and different point of views. I found it difficult to stay engaged in this one. It was a good story but it didn’t catch me like some. It was action packed and had wonderful characters, some old and some new. I am interested in seeing what happens next so I will be picking up the next book. Overall not a bad read.

This is an interesting book that combines a lot of myth and magic. There is a lot going on and the reader really has to pay attention to what is going on. It is the fourth book in a series so you need to have read the previous books so as to understand this world and its characters better. Lots of characters and timelines are going on in this book but it all is going on at the same time through the book so every few pages it is another character or time that you are reading about. While it all connects it can be a bit hard to follow. With a lot of different characters having their say it was sometimes hard to get immersed in the story. The main focus of this book is the character The Tall Dark Man and the beginning of a new story arc. As much as I like the idea of this story, I always find it hard with so many changing narrations and times lines so quickly.

I loved the first book ‘Ashes of Aldyr’ in the Obscured Throne trilogy so I was really excited to read this book. The author has a very vivid writing style and I am all for it. You get transported into an apocalyptic world filled with evil beings. It feels like you are in there yourself. With each different character’s story, I felt my heart beat harder than usual with fear and hope.
A mage, tricked into a wild goose chase of a rescue mission, a dwarf haunted by his dead wife, strange horned creatures and a forbidden village and much more!
Some stories are dark with an unhappy ending, some are more hopeful. I really enjoyed reading what was going to happen next. The only hope is magic users of the fifth sect. Far and few between can the world be saved?
I cannot wait to read the final book of the trilogy!

Start of a new trilogy This is the fourth book in the Blood Prophecy series but the first in the Tall Dark Man trilogy. It continues from where the previous book left off and has the Queen faced with another prophecy. The writing can be a bit hard to follow as it is written like short diary entries that the reader needs to keep track of. With multiple layers, characters and storyline’s all running at the same time it did get a bit confusing and I needed to stop several times and work it out in my head before continuing. It is an intriguing plot and that kept me reading until the end. It will be interesting to see how this prophecy plays out.

Rise of the Hunter is book four in the Blood Prophecy series. It is a supernatural thriller full of magic, action, suspense, mystery, danger, and a twist on the age-old battle of good versus evil. This story continues from the first three books and The Tall Dark Man becomes the center of the storyline. If you have not read the first few books, I highly recommend reading them first or you may feel a bit lost. The story is told from multiple POV’s and through different time periods which I found to be a bit hard to follow. In all honesty, it became confusing to have so many different time jumps back and forth which is why I have taken away one star in my rating. With that being said, the author does a great job of explaining the history of the prophecy and the Tall Dark Man’s desire for vengeance. The characters were interesting and well written. The overall story of The Tall Dark Man is fast paced, dark, and full of dark magic, vampires, witches, wolves, demons and the paranormal. Overall, this was a fantastic read.

3.5 stars Oh, I like this tag line – EVIL DOES NOT DIE. IT SEEKS VENGEANCE, it was what intrigued me to pick it up and have a read. It is a dark and gritty read and is the fourth book in the Blood Prophecy paranormal series with vampires, werewolves, witches, demons, and other supernatural’s. It has all the exciting elements with revenge, dark magic, good vs evil and prophecies just to name a few. Rise of the Hunter has a good premise but there is a lot going on in different time zones and with lots of different POV’s it makes it hard at times to keep track of everything and fully lose yourself within the story. Like the other books in the Rise of the Hunter it is an action-packed original story and an interesting read. As I said before It is fast paced with a lot going on and a lot to keep up with. There are characters that you will like but there are those that you won’t and too many voices to be heard. His world turned upside down in the worst way. He is now on a path for vengeance and those that stand in his way will cease to exist. Revenge is sweet! There is so much potential that I’m hoping the series will be streamlined as we go. If you like darkness and the supernatural dive in and see what you think. You never know you may love it.

This isn’t the normal genre that I read. It sounded like an interesting story. There’s plenty of action, vampire, wolves, witches, and crazy strong demons. The plot of a prophecy to be fulfilled in itself could be told in any story. What makes Rise of the Hunter interesting is the way this prophecy starts to be fulfilled. There are several plot points I wish the author unpacked more in scene than summary but there was still plenty of information to keep the novel moving. If you like the supernatural world of witches, demons, and vampires, the this is the story for you!

Ghosts of Alda is a fantasy book, the second in the Obscured Throne Trilogy. It’s worth reading the series in order, so start with Ashes of Aldyr then come to this book.
This is a post-apocalyptic story set in a fantasy world, where the connection between beings, magic and nature exacerbates the impact of ecological disaster. The book moves between different characters’ stories, showing how different individuals have been affected and are trying to move forwards after the Rupture. It’s dark at times, but there is plenty of optimism running through.
I particularly enjoyed the mysteries surrounding the Fifth Sect of magic. This had me intrigued early on and it was great fun piecing together more information as I encountered different characters’ perspectives!
This book gets five stars from me! I’d recommend it to fans of high fantasy looking for something big to get your teeth into.

This is not only the 4th book in the Blood Prophecy series but also the 1st in a trilogy. I would recommend reading the first 3 books of the Blood Prophecy Trilogy before reading this one so you can know the character’s portrayed and voicing the stories as well as understand the events which have led to this point.
As with the previous books, this is written from multiple perspectives and from multiple different periods of time. This may be confusing at first but the author does a good job at making it lear what is happening.
I enjoyed the characters and what each brought to the story, their backgrounds and experiences have shaped them well into even more interesting individuals. Another element I enjoyed was the historical side of Hawaii, I wasn’t expecting it, but I found it fascinating and thought it made the series more unique.
I’m looking forward to reading more in the series as I’m now invested in their lives.

This book is a great story and a brilliant addition to the series. I also enjoyed the fact that it is the start of a new series too. The book is a well written fantasy story that was so easy to engage with. I was pulled in to the story straight away and loved how the author built the story up. I enjoyed the combination of old and new characters. They all added some thing to the overall story and made the book much better to read. Although I have only read a few books by this author I have enjoyed them all and I am looking forward to more.

Rise of the Hunter is the fourth book in the Blood Prophecy series by Barb Jones. This is an original paranormal story with witches, vampires, demons, angels, Hawaiian shamans/culture/history/gods, the supernatural, good vs evil, plots, agendas, vengeance, magic, mythology, drama, action, adventure, suspense, mystery, intrigue, tension, mysteriousness, prophecy, twists, and danger. This book focuses on the Tall Dark Man (from the series), as well as the return of the main characters from the previous books- as Ms. Jones weaves an intriguing tale that was made even more interesting by injecting some of her personal history/culture into her story. Even though this is the fourth book in the Blood Prophecy series, it is also the first book in a trilogy focusing on the Tall Dark Man, so I am interested in seeing where we go from here. Having said that, I Highly recommend reading the previous books before starting on this one as there is a lot of information and backstory that you will probably need in order to save any confusion here as the character introductions and other relevant details are contained in those previous books. Again, as with Ms. Jones other books, there is a LOT going on in the story, making for a interesting read- BUT with the story being told from so many perspectives (at least 18 individuals POV’s) plus all the time jumps, made for a bit of a jumbled, and at times, confusing read. The transitions were a bit choppy which added to the unsteady feel. I think the story would have been better if the ‘information’ was provided from much fewer perspectives, and the ‘historical’ details/stories were provided through the ‘current’ dialogue instead of all the time jumps, I mean we jump through so many centuries, even as far back as the birth of Pele- Hawaiian Goddess-Hawaiian Creation, then visiting Nostradamus, ancient Hawaii, various cities/places in the present day, as well as jumping back to B.C. a few times, then back to ‘present day’, then back in time again, then forward again, and so on and so forth- which honestly just made me a little dizzy and added to the confusion- and just seemed to me to be more like haphazard info dumps. But the mysteriousness that Ms. Jones infused into her story definitely added to the overall intrigue and feel of the story- amping up some tension while adding interest. The story is set to continue, so I will have to wait to see what Ms. Jones has in store for us, in the future instalments. Happy Reading…

This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites. This is the first book in a new series for this author. It is also the fourth book in the current series which I highly suggest reading as well. This will help with your enjoyment of this author’s writing skills. I enjoy how she uses details to make her books realistic and as if you are part of the story. This book is no different. I found this book to be well written and a great start to this new series. The characters pull you into their dark world of the supernatural. A fight be good and evil but who will win, only fate knows. There is great growth with the characters and the plot throughout. They are strong, connectable, creative characters that add so much to the entertainment value of the story. I also enjoyed how fast paced and engaging this story is. It is easy to read which I highly recommend reading.

Wow! I found this story to be quite exciting. The Queen and her friends are in for the battle of their life. Good and Evil. The Tall Dark Man makes his return. Having read the first book and then jumping here to book 4 made it a touch confusing but I did finally get my bearings. The story went back and forth giving history of the prophecy leading to the third battle. As a paranormal fan, I love that there’s a bit of everything in there: vamps, stone demons, witches, you name it. Fantasyland. You are pulled right in from the beginning as the story delves right into how the tale began. I found it to be well-written. The time jumps were done smooth so that you could follow the story without getting lost. The Hawaii history was quite fascinating and a wonderful touch to the story. I believe it’s a story worth reading. I do think this is better read in order but you can do stand-alone.
