This was an adorable short story lightly touching on caring for and interacting with pet dogs. I really liked that the illustrations also covered both do’s and don’ts making the points even easier to understand for some children. I would recommend this book.

My 11 year old daughter is having trouble with her reading. She saw me reading this and asked if she could try it. I asked her what about this book had made her ask. She said that the pictures made her want to read it. We read the book together. She was engaged and enjoyed it. Not only was it entertaining but it had underlying messaging around disability awareness, that you don’t have to go through things alone and how to face your fears. It was great to see her excited to read a book for once. I have found out that there are a couple more Jake books so will be reading them with her too. It was a good wholesome book with great messaging. Highly recommend.

My daughter has a lot of fears about new places. I have started to read fun books with her that she can relate to. So I was excited to read “Jake the Growling Dog Share His Trail,” with her. It was perfect timing because we were prepping to embark on a small hike on the PCT with our friends. Reading about Jake and his worries, talking to his friends about his feelings, and gaining support from them to help him tackle his fears, was exactly what she needed. We both can’t wait to read the other Jake stories in the series.

A cute little story about overcoming fear and worry, and accepting others for who they are…and whether or not they look different from us. This is shown by Jake and his dog pals accepting a new dog friend who has three legs instead of four. A heartwarming story.

Jake the Growling Dog Goes to Doggie Day (Book 3) by Samantha Shannon.
In Book 3 of this adorable series, Jake’s family is going out of town for a few days and Jake will be staying at the day care center while they are gone. Jake is scared about staying at the daycare, as he is afraid the other animals won’t like him. His best friend, decides to tag along with Jake to offer him some Love & encouragement and helps him face his fears. While Jake is nervous about trying something new, he finds the courage and ends up having a wonderful time with all of his new friends . Even when nighttime comes and Jake is especially nervous. His family packed him his favorite “buddy” Mac to snuggle while he goes to sleep.
Fabulous book written with a heartfelt message for children, focusing on the important message about standing tall and facing your fears—often times turning into an unforgettable adventure. We especially enjoyed the extra information and suggestions at the end of the book to encourage the reader to be kind & helpful.

I highly recommend this book. Once again we meet Jake the growling dog, this time he is exploring his own backyard and comes across some strange footprints which make him a little scared because something strange is on his turf. Jake and his friends went out together to find out what was going on in their neighborhood. What they found was another dog who only had 3 legs. The moral was that it took them a minute to even notice that the dog only had 3 legs because they were so impressed by his ability and they had not even noticed the lack of a leg. Once again the author includes life lessons for the kids to help them grow.

Another excellent book about Jake the growling dog. In this book, Jake is thrown into something new, he has to go to daycare. Going into a new experience can be terrifying, but with help from his friends Jake learns that new experiences are not necessarily bad. The author again provided some helpful tips that will help anyone to cope with going into new experiences and cope with the changes. I highly recommend this book to parents for the kids.

This is a really cute children’s book. This is the first book in a series about Jake the lovable dog who growls all the time. The growling can make others feel like Jake is mad or sad, but that’s not the case. Jake is a very happy dog who just happens to growl. The author includes in the book activities for kids to reinforce the lesson from the book. This is an excellent book and I highly recommend it to parents for your kids.

Jake the Growling Dog: Jake Shares his Trail Book 2 by Samantha Shannon
Book 2 in this sweet series was another great hit with the littles. Focusing on the message of the importance embracing each other’s differences rather than being afraid of them. Beautiful illustrations and an even more beautiful message.
Jake and his friends were out walking on Jake’s trail one morning when they stumbled upon some scary tracks. While their imaginations ran wild, they thought of all kinds of scary things that could have left the odd tracks on the trail. When the friends came together to further investigate, they found that it was another dog who left the track, however this dog only had 3 legs. The friends learned the important lesson of it’s ok to be different and that our differences make us unique.

Sweet story for kids. Beautiful illustrations and even more beautiful message. My son & grandson enjoyed me reading the book to them. Jake is a dog who is often misunderstood, as he is always growling. People think that he is mad, but he really is not—growling just happens for him, even when he is happy. This book outlines to the reader the importance of being thankful & expressing gratitude, as well as being kind to others and even goes as far as suggesting a list of ways to demonstrate each of those attributes.

Jake the Growling Dog is back for a new adventure. This time, he and his friends have a mystery to solve on Jake’s trail. They work together and discover the answer to the mystery. I love this book! The characters are cute and friendly. They’re sure to keep the interest of elementary age children. Even though I’ve never read the previous books about Jake, I enjoyed reading this one. The back of the book features guides for how to help kids overcome fears and tips for meeting new friends. It also has activities for kids. I feel these activities and guides add to the value of this book and are useful parenting tools. I recommend this book for parents and grandparents as well as elementary age readers.

This is such a cute book that tackles some very important topics. Jake is an adorable dog, with sweet, adorable friends. They go on adventures, play and make new friends. However, Jake and his friends also deal with some pretty big real-life issues like worrying, fear, being different from our friends, disabilities, sharing and how important it is to be kind to everyone. The author does a great job of using animals and rhyming to keep kids interested. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and so colorful. I highly recommend this book.

5/5 Such a sweet character. Jake is afraid to go to daycare, because he’s nervous to make new friends for different reasons. But he gives it a try with the help of his squirrel friend. He eventually finds 2 new friends there, one just as shy as he is, and he soon learns he had nothing to worry about. This is a great story to read to your kids to teach them to try new things. I love the Jake series, he’s a sweet heart and I love the messages behind them. Each book has its own message and fun activities to do with your child in the back.

I love the Jake the Growling Dog series! Jake is a sweet dog who growls with everything he does. This book follows Jake down his favorite trail, where he notices unknown tracks and a scent that scares him. He gets himself all worried about who the tracks could belong, imagining zombies and giants and other scary monsters. And in the end it turns out to be a newfound friend. After reading the description about how this book touches upon tough childhood topics, like feelings and diversity, I knew this one was a keeper. Jake is such a fun and relatable character for young children. We enjoyed joining him and his friends on this adventure and are looking forward to what other shenanigans they will be getting into in future books. The bonus material at the end of the book was an unexpected bonus that could really help many parents talk to their children about their worries in a safe and healthy way. Check this series out!

Jake the Growling Dog Shares his Trail is the 3rd book in an adorable series. It follows Jake in different situations, that help children relate to difficult social situations. This book can be used for many different topics. It can be used to explain diversity or disabilities and showing kindness to those that are different than us. It can help explain to little kids to turn to their friends for help, and to share their feelings. That it’s okay to feel scared, and how overcome that feeling and face your fears. Not to judge others too quickly or harsh, and give people a chance to be your friend. The story is light hearted and a fun rhyming book, without feeling forced. I love the last 2 lines of the story! “Be a friend to those you meet, who might be different from you. You’ll find many things in common with new friends, pure and true!” Props to the illustrator, the colors are very bright and make the image pop. My son loved looking for the butterfly and dragonfly on each page. I love that there is teaching tools after the story, that a parent or teacher could use as a lesson plan or assist in some tough conversations. Highly recommend this story to lower grade elementary school teachers or counselors.

Jake is a misunderstood dog. He growls all the time so everyone thinks that he’s angry or mean. He’s not though! He’s just thankful for all that he has!
This is a super cute, very short read that focuses on thankfulness. It includes some ways that readers can be thankful and show that to others. It also contains an activity to help children remain thankful.

Jake goes about his trail as he does everyday, when he comes across new feet marks in his trail. His friends come over the next day to help him discover what these marks are. As they go about the trail, they find the prints, and it’s their other friend Tucker! He is a 3 legged dog, it scares Jake at first and he says sorry to Tucker for being scared of him. It’s a great lesson for children to never judge anyone about any disabilities. Was a really cute book.

I read this book with my soon to be 3rd and 4th grade daughters (or rather, let them read it to me). They loved the dogs and how cute they are, and I loved how much it teaches them about handling anxiety and about inclusion. This book is a great book to not only teach kids about managing anxiety (face your fears, instead of hiding from them, for instance), but also to teach kids about accepting people with disabilities (in this case, a dog with a missing leg). This is an excellent way to show kids how to include others.
