Goddess of Everything: A Blood-Curdling Tale of Truth, Freedom, and Love by Paul DeBlassie lll – Review by Jennifer Reimer

Goddess of EverythingGoddess of Everything by Paul DeBlassie III
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was well written, and the writing style pulls you into the story right away and holds on till you can’t stop reading. The characters of the story mother and son were interesting to read about, and very real like it makes you wonder if this was a book really written about someone. There was a good originality to these characters and story. This story is twisted and complex which wrote a vividly detailed about how there is a dark side to religion. Between the nun’s ability to hurt you with their thoughts and Gabriel and his wife’s vision, it was a rollercoaster of a read as it kept me guessing till the end. There are moments when I felt chills about what I was reading, and I was on the edge more then once.

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, book 1) by Amy McKinley – Review by Ayla Eddy

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, #1)No Way Out by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

No Way Out (Mafia Elite Book 1) by Amy McKinley was a captivating book from the first page. The book is filled with developed characters that keep you wondering what they will do next as the story plays out. It is my first read and not going to be my last read by Amy McKinley. The way she writes her characters it is easy to feel for them whether is it pity, hate, or love. I simply could not put the book down. I just had to keep reading to find out more.

Lilliana is a mafia princess, but not your average one. She is a strong female lead that is determined, skilled, and not a damsel in distress. With a rough life that holds no escape except as a pawn to ensure her father’s power. She has a group of girlfriends that are more like sisters to her and always there to support her. Under her father’s care she is nothing more than a pawn to be played at the right time for his selfish desire for power. She wants nothing to do with being his bargaining chip, but how will she find freedom? Trading one caged life for another to a man of his choosing? Or is there another way?

Life changing events for the ever-cruel Brambilla boss set a new start to things in the mafia world. Enter assassin Matteo Trambino the guise Max takes on with his plan of his own devised to save her from her dangerous father. As the new bodyguard to Lil, he witnesses firsthand the life the mafia princess lives. It drives him even more to follow through with his mission, even if parts of that may be changing as the story progresses. Will he succeed in what he has been sent to do or will he fail?

An amazing read that I would recommend to anyone!

Unsettled Scores (DAG Team Series Book 2) by Kel O’Connor – Review by Karen Pearman

Unsettled Scores (DAG Team #2)Unsettled Scores by Kel O’Connor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was the second book in the DAG team series by this author and was just as good as the first in my opinion. I would highly recommend that you read these books in order, so you are aware of the previous story and events as opposed to reading this one by itself. And believe me, the first one is a great thriller as well so you will be sitting on the edge of your seats reading them both. This one I felt had a little more romance than the first book did which I loved, but the drama and suspense is what makes this story. The author has an amazing knack for describing the characters as well as the events taking place around them, so I truly was able to picture this happening in front of my own eyes. This was another page turner for me as I couldn’t put it down, so I was reading past midnight to finish it. But it was all well worth it. If you love suspenseful books, you need to read this series.

This is the first book in this series by this author. I am quite familiar with her writing as I have previously read books written by her for other series. I think she is a wonderful writer with some of the best descriptive writing I have read. She honestly keeps me on the edge of my seat biting my nails with every book she writes. This was probably the best book I’ve read by her to date. I immediately fell connected with the main characters and they did not let me down. This book was full of suspense and drama, but the romance was sizzling hot! I cannot wait until she releases the next book in this series to see where what happens next.

Runaway to the Outback (Welcome to Bunya Junction, Book 2) by Nicole Flockton – Review by Bethany Rollins

Runaway to the Outback (Welcome to Bunya Junction, #2)Runaway to the Outback by Nicole Flockton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely adore the Bunya Junction series by Nicole Flockton that focuses on the Carruthers siblings and finding their match. In this second in the series, Runaway to the Outback, we find out more about Jonas Carruthers, the local pub owner of Bunya Junction. One day, a woman, Pandora Sebastian, walks into his pub in a wedding dress. Speculation of being a runaway bride leads to the discovery that Pandora is a model and has run off her photoshoot. She escapes to the small town of Bunya Junction and discovers that the small town is in fact a wonderful place full of people who genuinely care for others. We follow the tale of Jonas and Pandora and discover to trust in others along the way.
I enjoy the people of Bunya Junction and how the are all there for one another. This is such a rare thing these days that I instantly want to meet these characters in the real world. I appreciate the secondary story lines mixed throughout the main one, such as Ray, the sweet and lovable storyteller of the pub and town. Although sometimes I wanted to yell at Jonas for being a sulking and stubborn man, he is a great character and takes criticism well from his siblings. I also appreciate the tease into the 3rd book about Scott and now I anxiously await its release.

Goddess of Everything: A Blood-Curdling Tale of Truth, Freedom, and Love by Paul DeBlassie III – Review by Shelly Kittell

Goddess of EverythingGoddess of Everything by Paul DeBlassie III
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goddess of Everything by Paul DeBlassie III is one of the best psychological horror books I believe I have ever read since Stephen King or Dean Koontz. This author has given me the creepiest case of the wiilies that I have ever had. Gabriel has grown up with “Mom of the Year.” She also happens to be Mother Superior. Oh, and did I mention that she has some creepy supernatural powers that she uses to hurt people, including Gabriel, his wife and child? Through the years, we see Mother Juana pretend to be awesome and use her powers to hurt people. Gabriel has always had the power of light on his side. This story is an intense battle of good and evil. Gabriel and his wife, Consuela, are trying to protect their child and the children from the orphanage. Consuela is the one to show that Mother Juana is a mother-in-law from Hell. You can feel the tension and suspense as you read. I love a good story that leaves me so creeped out, I need a night on. Well-written and well-developed, this is a worthy purchase and must-read for all fans of horror and suspense!!!! Paul DeBlassie III is now one of new favorites. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Phenomenal book!

Something Lost (Funerals and Weddings Series Book 1) by Bernadette Marie – Review by Angelina Frazzini

Something LostSomething Lost by Bernadette Marie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Something Lost by Bernadette Marie is book one of the Funerals and Weddings series. Second chance romances are one of my favorite tropes and this book is no exception!

Craig and Rachel broke the rules when they dated in high school but that didn’t stop them from falling in love. As it does, the real world got in the way and they both went separate ways. Now they are forced back together. Craig and Rachel have both experienced some highs and lows since they’ve been separated but there is some rekindling of their spark when they see each other again. They definitely have hurdles in their way. Can Rachel face her traumas to be with Craig and can he handle the baggage or will these two fizzle out like they did before?

I enjoyed this book. There was a lot of emotion and the characters were well developed. It really felt like you were right next to them going through this story. I can’t wait to see what this series has in store for the rest of the characters!

Silent Gavel (A Crawford Mystery Book 1) by Merissa Racine – Review by Jenni Bishop

Silent Gavel (Crawford Mystery #1)Silent Gavel by Merissa Racine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 stars

If you are a fan of mystery and suspense, then look no further than this book Silent Gavel which is the first book in the Crawford Mystery duo by Merissa Racine. This quick read is a cross between is a ‘whodunit’ cozy mystery and thriller. The plot is full of suspense and intrigue, and I was so engrossed that before I knew it, I was at the end. I enjoyed the originality of the story and the characters, well most of them. Merissa incorporates her knowledge of being a court reporter and infused it as part of the story.

Lauren is in a fight for her freedom, but can she solve the case without ruffling too many feathers and landing herself with a life sentence?

Jonas owns the pub and thought he had seen it all until she came along. She’s everything he didn’t realize he needed in life. Dating the It Guy by Krysten Lindsay Hager – Review by Tracy Wilkin

Dating the It GuyDating the It Guy by Krysten Lindsay Hager
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dating the It Guy is a young adult romance by Krysten Lindsay Hager. As far as stories in this genre go, it was not a bad story. There was a lot contained in these pages. Emotion, tension, insecurities, competition and a lot more. The characters were varied and each carried their own complexities. There was also the ever present teenage drama to add to the mix. The author penned a fairly decent story that was appealing, engaging and never lacking in dramatic flair. A great story for lovers of this trope. 4 stars.

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, book 1) by Amy McKinley – Review by Jessica Phillips

No Way Out (Mafia Elite, #1)No Way Out by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

No Way Out is book 1 of the Mafia Elite series by Amy McKinley. I am a sucker for a good mafia romance and I am also a sucker for a great book by Amy McKinley. And WOW does she kick this series off right!

Liliana is born into this mafia lifestyle and knows that something is going on with her dad. He’s becoming more agitated and always angry. One thing that Liliana knows is that it somehow includes her. And not in a good way. The only problem is will she be able to find out what he’s up to in time to save herself?

Max (undercover as Matt) is working to take down the people who took what rightfully belongs to him. Even though Liliana is a part of the family that he’s going after, he swears to protect her.

I love the character of Liliana. She’s strong and knows that she has to protect herself from the monsters that surround her. And I loved reading about the relationship between her and Max. What a great story!

Swindler’s Revenge is the fifth book in the Karina Cardinal Mysteries series by Ellen Butler. This series keeps getting better and better as they continue. Karina is on the hunt again. This time to help her ex, Mike, out of the trouble he is in with the FBI. This series can be read as standalones, but I highly recommend they be read in order to get the full effect of the backstory. I absolutely adore the way Ms. Butler injects a bit of humor into her stories. This one had me laughing out loud at the same time guessing how it was going to end. This is my new favorite of this series. I highly recommend this book, series and author. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book.

Runaway to the Outback (Welcome to Bunya Junction, #2)Runaway to the Outback by Nicole Flockton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Runaway to the Outback by Nicole Flockton is the second book in the series A Welcome to Bunya Junction Romance. Jonas Carruthers runs the pub in Bunya Junction, a meeting place for the locals. One Saturday afternoon, the pub patrons cease their conversations when a bride walks into the pub. The bride isn’t a local resident and as the bride walks towards the bars and sits down in front of Jonas all he can ask is, “What can I get you?” It is scenes like this that Ms. Flockton does a wonderful job describing to bring you into the world of Bunya Junction that gets me sucked into reading her books. I love the way Jonas and Pandora Sebastian (the woman who isn’t a bride but is a famous model) begin talking to each other and finding they interact and work together well. I really enjoyed this book and had a good laugh at the last scene. I hope you love it as much as I did!

Unsettled Scores (DAG Team #2)Unsettled Scores by Kel O’Connor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book in the DAG Team Series. I didn’t feel like I was missing anything not having read the first book. That being said, my enjoyment and curiosity has me wanting to go back and read the first book.
Amy Stuart feels she is to blame for her sister’s death and wants to avenge her death. Her work leads her back to where she is from and within reach of her sister’s killer.
Hugh Bainbridge IV hired Data Acquisition Group for help with a smuggling issue. Hugh is not sure if someone broke into their warehouse or if it is an inside job, but he is determined to find out. He does not make a good impression on Amy, but as time goes by, they find they are spending a lot of time in each other’s company.
There is a lot going on in this book, but it is easy to keep up. I loved the heat between Amy and Hugh. Amy is able to compartmentalize unless it is personal. Can Amy get over her own anger and fear and give love a chance? Or is she going to just walk away and not look back?

No Way Out: An Arranged Marriage Mafia Romance is the first book in the Mafia Elite Series by Amy McKinley. What a powerful read. Ms. McKinley is one of my go to authors and I have enjoyed everything I have read by her, but this is by far my absolutely my favorite. At first, I thought it was going to be confusing with all the characters mentioned before the story started. It turned out to be a good reference, but the story was gripping and held me from beginning to end. Max and Liliana have hot, hot, hot chemistry. I can’t wait to get the book in this series. This book touched on some deep situations, grief being one of the biggest. Craig and Rachel dated secretly behind coach Diaz’s back, but things ended years before they reunited. Something Lost is a story that shows, the heart wants what it wants. I enjoyed this book because it was realistic. It was just fairytales and rainbows. Real life issues surrounding grief are very well displayed.

I have loved everything I have read by this author, especially this book. This author never disappoints, this story is full of action, suspense, romance, deceit and so much more. I was pulled into this story from the beginning and I was kept entertained throughout. Max and Liliana had chemistry from the start and you could feel it jumping off the pages. There are a lot of changes coming for some of the Mafia bosses and some of them aren’t going to make it through those changes. This is a must read if you want to find out what happens, who makes it through and what happens between Max and Liliana and other characters as well. There are some great characters in this story. Dating the It GuyDating the It Guy by Krysten Lindsay Hager
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If only they would allow me to give me more options for the stars! I want to give this a solid 4.5 because I have loved everything by Krysten Lindsay Hager that I have managed to get my hands on. This is an adorable YA romance. Emme has had a tough time after breaking up with her previous boyfriend. Trust is a difficult thing to come by, especially when you’re attempting to trust someone that you feel is so far out of your league. Constantly comparing yourself to their exes and everyone else that finds themselves in their inner circle. Brendon appears to be far more down to earth than anyone on the outside looking in could have predicted. He wants more out of life than what his family has planned for him and he has his sights set on Emme. Their relationship goes through typical ups and downs that you would expect with a high school couple, but there are subtle differences that make this book stand out from the rest and make it so enjoyable to read. The amount of emotions I had while reading this is one of the main reasons I will always grab a KLH book when I have the opportunity! Get this for yourself or recommend it to someone who loves YA romance and would enjoy the amazing storytelling for themselves!

Something Lost (Funerals and Weddings Series #1) by Bernadette Marie

Not the first book I’ve read by Marie. Something Lost is the first book in the Funerals and Weddings Series. It is a wonderful story and will leave you wanting more.

Rachel is in shock after seeing the team her father thought the world of. She wants to catch up with Craig. He was her first love and in the last ten years it hasn’t changed that. The quote I chose for Rachel is: “It was the first time I really noticed you. Before then, you melded in with the team. Hal and Theo would hang with you guys, and I was told to stay upstairs. But when you hung around, I noticed.”

Craig didn’t think agreeing to show up at Coach Diaz’s funeral would lead to seeing Rachel again. He isn’t sure if they are starting something new or if they are ending it. When something drastic happens he worries for her safety. The quote I chose for Craig is: “I loved you too. I didn’t show it well, but I thought we would be forever. I knew in time your father would forgive me, but I had to prove myself to him—and me.”

Highly recommended for Contemporary Romance lovers.

This book is so heartwarming and heartbreaking all at the same time. Cassandra broke up with Rhett five years ago in such a harsh way. Now Rhett is running his family’s farm in Wyoming and taking care of his brother and father, who has Alzheimer’s. Cassie waltzs back into his life. They try to pick things up but a bit of chaos ensues from all angles. A lot of it from his father. Taking care of a patient with Alzheimer’s is not easy. Issues and arguments can arise. Rhett and Cassie learn what caused many of theirs. Rhett was really hurt by her. The story is so intriguing and so heartfelt as so many of the issues are really gone through by families of these patients. She even includes sundowning. There is so much to repair in Rhett and Cassie’s relationship. They went through the trouble and came through it together stronger for it. Every character was so well-written with strength and character, even Callum. Her Aunt Louise was my personal favorite because she was kind of the devil’s advocate. The book was so incredible and left me with so many feelings. What an incredible story. I hope to read more from this author. She was new to me and I will be looking for more from her. Highly recommend.

Swindler's RevengeSwindler’s Revenge by Ellen Butler
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have only recently began to love mysteries, but its books like this that keep me interested. This book was fast paced, and unexpected. Action, suspense, intrigue, drama, and even some humor were just some of the tidbits wrapped up in this cozy mystery. This was book #5 so I have to backtrack to the first 4 because I can only imagine they were as good as this one.
The book begins with the FBI searching Karina’s home for her ex-boyfriend Michael who they believe has stolen $1.2 Million and then went offshore to the Cayman Islands. Karina immediately finds that information disturbing and uncharacteristic of the Michael she knows. As the story unfolds from there Karina is contacted by Mike and true to her belief finds that he was possibly framed, and he needs her help. As Karina, Mike, and the FBI race to uncover the truths the plot keeps thickening and of course keeps you guessing. This fun read is a must if you have not.
