Power Play (Astoria Bay Thunder Book 1) by CJ Cartwright – Review by Rayne East

Power Play (Astoria Bay Thunder #1)Power Play by C.J. Cartwright
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Second chance hockey romance
This is Levi and Brynn’s story about a second chance at romance. I really enjoyed the banter between the team mates and Brynn and Tia. The writing is good and the author took time to develop the characters. Even though it was a quick read for me, the story didn’t feel rushed. This is book 1 in the series and has created a wonderful start for the rest of the series. Looking forward to book 2.

Wildcat: A Steamy Firefighter Romance by Carina Alyce – Review by Rayne East

Roaring hot!
This is the first book in the MetroGen Downtown series and it was scorching. Firefighter Leslie is working hard against the tide of chauvinism in the firefighting world. Footballer Trevor is at the peak of his career amongst big changes with his club. Neither were looking for a long term commitment. A romance with a very sharp edge and hot as sin sexy times, I found this a great afternoon escape.

Savage Secrets (Mafia Elite, book 4) by Amy McKinley – Review by Rayne East

Savage Secrets (Mafia Elite, #4)Savage Secrets by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mafia at its best
The brilliance continues. If you haven’t read the first two books in this series, please do so. This series needs to be experienced as a whole. Each book focuses on an important couple within the family. This is Marco and Elena’s story who both have secrets and a past that threatens their future. I absolutely love this series. The author makes me feel so connected with each of the characters. Each book has just blown me away and this one was just as amazing. Can’t wait for Ruthless Heir.

Incredible mafia story
Strong alpha male lead, equally strong female lead and lots of action on between. The author did a fantastic job of building the suspense and letting things play out naturally within the story. The anticipation at times was killing me. Luca and Aly’s relationship was like a rumbling volcano. The writing and world building is brilliant. Highly recommend.

To be a Fae Guardian (Realm Chronicles Book 2) by Tricia Copeland – Review by Rayne East

To be a Fae Guardian (Realm Chronicles, #2)To be a Fae Guardian by Tricia Copeland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Fae adventure continues.
This is book 2 of the Realm Chronicles and I am loving the realm that this author creates. The book dives straight in from where we left off in book 1 (so read that first). Very quickly I was swept away with Titania and was right there alongside her for every challenge and celebration. Even though this book didn’t have as much action as the first, it still gave an emotional punch. Magic, Prophesies, Romance, and more. With so much revealed but so much more to uncover, I eagerly await book 3.

Apocalypse Thoughts (The Pox Series Book 5) by Kendra Griffin – Review by Rayne East

A different dystopian adventure
Based in a post-pandemic world where everything seems out to get you, we meet Kella. A sassy girl who is trying to keep her brother alive and navigate the drama associated with transitioning to adulthood in an apocalyptic world. The range of characters and Kella’s dialogue made for a funtastic read. I didn’t realise going in that this was a part of a series but that did not seem to matter. My favourite part would have to be Kella’s relationship with her brother Huck. It was just totally awesome. Brilliant book that I recommend.

Face the Fire (Moore Family Saga Book 5) by Michele Sims – Review by Rayne East

Face the FireFace the Fire by Michele Sims
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Drama, music and soul searching
This is my first book by this author and follows Miles and Bella’s story. The author really captured the cut-throat music industry and the stresses of being involved in that world. I connected well with Miles’ character, his confidence and charisma oozed from the pages but Bella frustrated me at times. A very well written story that is a bit of paranormal, washed with suspense and a filled with a whole lot of romance. Has me very curious to check out the rest of the series.

Unique, confronting and raw
This is a straight-up real story that brings very confronting issues to fore. Not only is there romance, but Anton and Elsa have to endure a journey that tugs at the heart strings. The author approaches the issues with a sensitivity but realism that I appreciated. Told in dual POV, this is the second book in the Titans series and I like how it was a very different story from the first book. It was also great to have glimpses of previous characters. Looking forward to book 3.

Sci-fi drama, supernatural and suspense
This is the 5th book in the series. It’s full of suspense, intrigue and action. This story focuses on Trevyn and Lael and their journey to each other while fighting for their beliefs across the galaxy. Multiple POV, which I love, as it gives a depth to the storyline. There are new characters and it was also great to come across characters from previous books. This is a cleverly multi-layered and interwoven sci-fi story that easily draws the reader into a place that’s out of this world.

Action, Adventure and Allure
I have mixed feelings about this book. Lydia was a strong lead, the imagery was good and the action kept the story moving at a good pace. But there were a few parts that felt a bit repetitive or forced that took a bit of the polish away from the story for me. Overall though still an easy read with a good plot that filled a lazy afternoon.

Brilliant as always
This is the third book in the series but can be read as a stand-alone. This is Brant and CC’s story and what a story it was! I am in love with Parker and I want to move there. Seriously, the author has created a place that is truly amazing. The characters are all unique and quirky and just down-right loveable. Brant and CC’s story is full of all the feels and I loved catching up with Brekin and Annie and all the crew. I didn’t want the book to end. Thankfully there is a book 4 and I can’t wait.

Captivating
A journey down well worn paths of history that spanned across continents. I found this book fascinating even though I am not very familiar with American history. The story follows Lisbeth as she works through her grief and uncovers family secrets buried long ago. I enjoyed the author’s writing and the way historical facts were interwoven with the character’s story. A wonderful read that history lovers would enjoy.

Fun, flirty and fabulous
What an entertaining read. Katrina is so funny and with such an angry streak and filthy mouth she had me in stitches. Satan in all his villainy was great and Gabe was intriguing. With miscommunications and uncontrollable feelings, the stage is set for an enjoyable romcom ride. A great afternoon read. Recommend.
