The Book of Fears: A Collection of Short Stories is 8 stories compiled of different people with different fears. Check your trigger warnings! A couple of stories are scary, and the others are downright creepy. Each story is short but really good by itself. I would definitely read each individual book if they ever became their own book. Definitely worth checking out.

The Book of Fears was an amazing collection of short stories about people’s fears. I love that it lists out the official name of the fear and then explains what it is at the beginning of each story. What a cool idea to get the reader excited about what the theme of the plot is going to be before the story starts. I really enjoyed the author’s excellent skill at building up each character’s personality in such a short story, they were all so dynamic, that it was easy to get invested in what was happening to them. Some of these fears are so realistic, that I had to work not to look around to see if something was going to jump out and jump scare me. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves short stories that are so full of storylines that keep you on the edge of your seat, and so enraptured in each of the stories. No two stories are alike, which is even more amazing. I hope K. S. Gantt writes more books like this one because I am intrigued by the writing style, and effectiveness to put fear in me. @Brandy Rymer 06/2024

I am a huge fan of anything that frightens me, so this was right up my alley. I hadn’t read anything by this author before but as soon as I saw this book, I knew I had to pick it up. I really appreciate that the author includes trigger warnings at the beginning to prepare you for what you will encounter. These stories were the perfect bite-sized length and somehow not sacrificing the quality of them. I was absolutely hooked on each and every story! I couldn’t put this down because there are no slow moments whatsoever. Each phobia that is explored is chilling and had me questioning if I have more phobias than I realized! If you enjoy horror and suspenseful short stories, do yourself a favor and pick this up. You won’t regret it!

This book wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. Not necessarily in a bad way though. So there’s eight different stories, each with different characters and different fears. None of those fears bother me, so it wasn’t what I would consider a horror book. They clearly give trigger warnings, so anyone who may be triggered by one of those fears have fair warning to skip it. I found the stories to be very quick reads and almost not enough story to them. I would be interested in reading more if they were to write on more fears. Now, all that being said, I do think they were well written. I just needed more. I will give this author another go when I find something else from her.

Book of Fears is just that, a book written about fear. Each chapter is a short story about a new phobia. Some of them I didn’t even know were phobias before reading the book. The last phobia is one I know well even if the story wasn’t based on something real, but instead something many people have discussed and wondered on for years. I myself have phobias with my biggest being coulrophobia or the fear of clowns and a fear of needles. Great stories, they would be well for campfire stories.

As always with any book, but particularly books that deal with this type of content, check trigger warnings. Your mental well-being is much more important. This is a collection of eight short stories on phobias. It was fun a quick little read. It is under 200 pages and the author does a good job on making you feel uncomfortable and go ick. But ick in a good way. I do not want to ruin anything for another reader but I will say the last story is my favorite.

The Book of Fears: A Collection of Short Stories is a collection of eight short stories about eight different people who have their own fear or phobia. It is full of tension, drama, action, mystery, intrigue and heart-pounding suspense. The author delves into fears and phobias such as the fear of death; the fear of butterflies; the fear of abandonment; the fear of cockroaches; the fear of Friday the 13th; the fear of being buried alive; the fear of snakes; and the fear of needles. Things that may seem irrational to outsiders, such as the intense fear of a butterfly, can cause intense and crippling fear in those that are terrified by the fluttering insects. The fear of abandonment can cause someone to go to terrifying lengths to ensure that those they love never abandon them. The fear of cockroaches may lead to an intense obsession with cleanliness to the point that it drives those that love them away or that may lead to irrational and frightening behavior. Please be advised that this collection may have triggers for some as it touches on topics such as domestic violence, abuse, miscarriage, and torture. A great read that has me looking forward to more stories by this author!

This was a wild roller coaster ride of a book. I was captivated by the beginning and couldn’t out this book down. There are 8 short stories in here and each one has a different phobia. This stories really put my imagination to the test and made me feel like I had each and every one of them. each story really brought to life how a phobia can affect someone’s life and what they might be going thou. I would suggest if you’re not into a little goosebumps and horror ish then don’t read this book before bed. It was really edge of your seat read,

The Book Of Fears by K.S. Gant is a dreadfully creepy collection of short stories. There are trigger warnings for each of the 8 stories, so make sure you check those before diving in! These short stories each correspond with a phobia at the start, to give you a hint on what to prepare for, so it was also educational for me because I was unfamiliar with a few of them! I loved how genuinely creeped out i got while reading these, K.S. knows exactly how to get in you head, and under your skin! I definitely recommend not only this collection, but the author as a whole! I think I’ve just found my new favorite horror author!

I generally am not a fan of the scary/horror genre but I decided to give this selection a try. This book is compiled into eight separate stories focusing on specific fears, such as snakes, roaches, and abandonment. These realistic fears in these stories really captured my attention in thinking that these stories could happen to us or those around us and fed on our deepest fears. These types of fears are truly ones that make you think of what could happen. Most people have one of the same fears mentioned in this book. I know for myself the snake one was not an easy one to read through.

I don’t even know where to begin, I loved this collection. I will say READ THE TRIGGERS as you will feel something in most if not all of these short stories, they are meant to make you feel that phobia and the author does a great job… tho I do say I may never look at people the same way ever again… haha. Very well done kept me hooked the entire time! Well worth a read!

The Book of Fears is a series of eight short stories; each one focusing on a different person and a specific phobia someone might have. Because of focuses on individualized triggers, this book could even be borderline scary for some people, but easy to skip that story and go on to the next. The stories included are: -Let’s Go Home Wolfie (Autophobia- the fear of abandonement) -Not In My House (Katsaridaphobia- the fear of cockroaches) -I’ll Float Away (Lepidopterophobia- the fear of flying insects/butterflies) -Friday the 13th (Paraskevidekatriaphobia- the fear of Friday the 13th) -Deep Thoughts (Taphephobia- the fear of being buried alive) -It’s All Fun and Games (Thanatophobia- the fear of death) -Happy Anniversary (Ophidiophobia- the fear of snakes) -Have You Seen My Wallet (Trypanophobia- the fear of needles) I really enjoyed the idea and concept of this book, and the stories were very entertaining as well. I do wish the stories were longer, or more detailed. I am a horror nut some of the stories felt lacking, but for the everyday casual reader, this is a very nice compilation. I hope the author does a series-based set with this concept and makes more stories for more fears! If I had to pick the best story, I would say the one based on being buried alive. The least favorite would have been the one with aliens incorporated, because that threw off the “this could be real” feeling for me. The writing style flowed nicely and the stories were never TOO heavy. Other than that, definitely a neat book to pick up and worth the read.

Honestly, I wasn’t a fan. This book is a collection of common fears/phobias. There’s eight stories with eight different people. Throughout the collection of phobias, these people are faced with their biggest fears. They must do what it takes to overcome them, or succumb to their fate of death by fear.
I believe this book is categorized as “horror”, but it wasn’t horrifying to me. There are MANY triggers and trigger warnings, so if you have triggers, beware. They are listed in the book.
Some of the fears and phobias are understandable and relatable, but I’ve yet to find a “horrifying” book that keeps me up at night. But, once again, I think I’m broken 🫠
If you’re interested in reading about phobias and how Individuals deal when faced with a life-or-death situation, this book is for you! But again, be mindful of the trigger warnings. I hope you enjoy!

K. S. Gantt is a first time author for me so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I grew up reading King, Koontz, and many others, and absolutely love horror and suspense so I was really excited to read this book! While not detailing the phobias overtly in the stories, K. S. Gantt does a great job telling the story in such a way that the fear is presented but much is left to the reader’s imagination (and that is often the most scary place of all)! I love that each phobia was briefly explained prior to the start of the story so the reader would know what was to come. While some of the stories were not really my cup of tea, some of the others really put me in a horror kind of mood! I felt like some of the stories could be continued as well (ending on a little bit of a cliffhanger, if you will). Overall, each of the eight stories is unique and well-written, with drama, suspense, intense fear, and lots of twists and turns. The characters are realistic and believable. I haven’t read much in the horror genre as of late, so The Book of Fears was just what I needed!

Everyone fears something, right? What about one of the fears listed: Autophobia-fear of abandonment Katsaridaphobia-fear of cockroaches Lepidopterophobia-fear or butterflies & flying insects Paraskevidekatriaphobia – fear of Friday the 13th Taphephobia – fear of being buried alive Thanatophobia-fear of death Ophidiophobia-fear of snakes Trypanophobia-fear of needles These are the fears The Book of Fears covers in its short stories. Could even be classified as a book of scary stories if you fall into one of these fears. Some of the phobias the author covers are common; we’ve all come into contact with someone who deals with it on a daily basis. Others not so much. There’s a lot of triggers potentially in this book, not just the fears themselves. And each story is specific to each fear. Some of the stories were better than others but overall the book wasn’t bad. The stories were just too short to break down each one without telling the whole thing. The phobias are written in order as they are introduced through the book. If I had to pick a favorite and a least favorite. My favorite was probably Taphephobia. Followed closely by Thanatophobia. My least favorite was definitely Trypanophobia. They lost me with the aliens in that one. Not really my thing. But again overall the author provided an interesting story with quite a bit of insight into phobias. Maybe there will be another one digging into more fears. It’s something that would interest me.

Talk about getting the bagesses scared out of you. Each story takes on a new phobia, each story scarier than the last, each story just as grand as the last. I loved reading these short stories. The author can speak to your mind and just with her words do more than scare you. I have never read a book so intense. Nor do I ever read from this genre. Taking a chance I loved my selection. I am looking forward to reading more from this author. I love well written spine chilling stories!

This was not what I expected. I have not read this genre before and should have tried something not as intense because… wow… I am not sure if I will continue to dip my toes to broaden my horizons and try new books in this genre, but if you like it… you will LOVE this book. I think I will be having nightmares for the next few nights. Great stories, and great writing skills. I did get drawn into the stories as I do with others I read, I still feel like I have bugs crawling on my skin from all the stuff in this book that gave me the creeps.
-Let’s Go Home Wolfie (Autophobia) -Not In My House (Katsaridaphobia) -I’ll Float Away (Lepidopterophobia) -Friday the 13th (Paraskevidekatriaphobia) -Deep Thoughts (Taphephobia) -It’s All Fun and Games (Thanatophobia) -Happy Anniversary (Ophidiophobia) -Have You Seen My Wallet (Trypanophobia)
I didn’t even know some of these were actual phobias, and learned I have some of these phobias… just wish I learned in a not-so-scary way!

This is an interesting collection of short stories. Each one centering around a certain kind of phobia. There are eight different stories that deal with the worst possibilities for those dealing with these phobias. The stories can be a bit creepy especially for those with the same kind of phobias so be sure to read the trigger warnings before jumping in. The stories move along nicely and kept me interested and thinking twice about phobias and what may be the cause of them.

This book does have a Trigger Warning right up front. 8 short stories dealing with some crazy phobias. As I came on here to type up my review, I noticed that the author grew up reading King. Oh, do I feel that in the stories. I grew up doing that too. The creep factor is off the charts. I have to say that I loved every minute of it. When I’m reading a horror book, I want horror, creepy and a bit disturbing. I feel like I got it all. I want some more from this author. New to me and I’ll be looking.

This books is such an unusual and intriguing collection of stories, focused on different phobias that are a little more strange. This book has an intense feel about it and I found myself more than once on the edge of my seat. I loved the way the author approached each story and the way it was framed for each individual. The whole book has a great flow about it and I found myself more drawn as the book went on. This is the first book that I have read by this author but it certainly won’t be the last.

S. Gantt – Review by Kerry Baker
The Book of Fears: A Collection of Short Stories by K. S. Gantt. This is an amazing book of Psychological Thriller short stories! There are several trigger warnings but they are warned ahead of time and they don’t go in too deep. I enjoy getting the pants scared off of me so this was right up my alley. They are not in your face scary but this could really happen scary, which to me is even worse! There are fears mentioned quite a bit in these stories such as the fear of needles and the fear of snakes which is my #1 fear! I thought I had snakes in my bed all night. There are twists, turns, mysteries and things that go bump in the night and its your choice if you want to face it or not! Read this fun collection to get the hairs on your neck to stand up. I loved it!

This is the first book that I have read from this author and she did not disappoint. There are triggering things within this book so readers be aware. It contains stories of people who have phobias and I have learned the words of the ones that I can relate to.Ophidiophobia is the fears of snakes and Trypanophobia which is a fear of needles, which are just two of the fears, I promise that you will love/hate this book because you understand the feeling that you get from this book. I will say that I felt that a lot of the stories could have continued. Overall this book is amazing and it keeps you on your toes.

This was definitely an entertaining read. Each short story is a different phobia that provides the theme for the story. Some of these phobias I didn’t know existed. The author weaves the phobia with the plot line extremely well. I couldn’t put the novel down! This is a must read horror collection.

3.5 – 4 stars *THIS BOOK DOES HAVE A TRIGGER WARNINGS* K.S. Gantt gives us 8 short stories that will leave you creeped out. Facing one’s fears is not a nice place to be. Instilling fear and horror is the name of the game, with some tension and suspense. You know when the hairs stand up on the back of your neck and arms. When you are so restless you don’t know whether or not to sit or stand. When your anxiety rachets up and you don’t know if it is time to fight or flight. What choice would you make? The chilliest thing of all is that the things listed in the trigger warnings whilst not detailed it does leave your mind to imagine the horrors. Can you survive the fear factor where you truly find things that go bump in the night? Pick up the book or not pick up the book it’s up to you. Happy reading!

The Book of Fears by K.S. Gantt is a collection of 8 short and disturbing stories that highlight some intriguing phobias. This is a creepy horror-esque fest full of tension, dramatic developments, twisty turns, and suspense. There are trigger warnings of violence, abuse, and more- so if you have any triggers, you will want to check out the TW’s before diving in. This also appears to be Ms. Gantt’s debut novel, as when I had finished this I went looking for more of her work, but this is the only one that showed up…. So I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more of her work in the future. The stories in the collection are: -Let’s Go Home Wolfie (Autophobia) -Not In My House (Katsaridaphobia) -I’ll Float Away (Lepidopterophobia) -Friday the 13th (Paraskevidekatriaphobia) -Deep Thoughts (Taphephobia) -It’s All Fun and Games (Thanatophobia) -Happy Anniversary (Ophidiophobia) -Have You Seen My Wallet (Trypanophobia)
I loved that this collection was so different from what I have been reading of late, and reminded me that I haven’t had enough of this genre in my reading ‘diet’ of late… Looking forward to seeing what Ms. Gantt produces next. Happy Reading…
