My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was hooked from the very beginning! Wendy Hewlett jumped right in with some difficult topics but has pulled it off in such an amazing and humanizing way. Ailey is one of the most believable characters I’ve read. She hasn’t had an easy time of it, but she doesn’t let that stop her from rediscovering herself. Such a good story of redemption and family. Solid work. 4 stars.

I really enjoyed this book. It was well written. I enjoyed the fact that this book completes the plot points from the first book but could be easily read as a stand alone. The characters are endearing and real. Pennell gives such a wealth of details without overwhelming the story with words. Solid job. 4 stars.

Wow! To say that I was engrossed from the first chapter would be an understatement! I love the way this book was given to us. It’s like we were experiencing the world with the characters, not reading the authors words. There are so many characters, so many threads, so much information…and to have it seamlessly wrap up at the perfect time in the perfect way without the ending being obvious-that’s the mark of a good writer. Incredible job. 5 stars.

While this is not my normal genre, I must say, I am FULLY impressed by Nichols world-building ability. Put together four fully-fleshed worlds, one intriguing plot, and a unique heroine and you have the makings for an entertaining and enthralling story. The characters and locales are detail-rich and robust, making you feel as if you can see, smell, taste, and feel everything for yourself. Very well done. 5 stars.

Such a cute book with loveable, quirky characters. I adore Tyler and Melanie. I would definitely visit the other characters in their own stories. Quick and Easy to read. As a 30-something, I loved all the references to the pop culture of my youth. Perfect light reading for a lazy afternoon. Solid work. Three stars.

That was, without a doubt, the hottest book I’ve ever read. I love these characters. There are so many twists and turns that you never see the end coming. Such an amazing job writing a very realistic, believable story. I got completely lost in this book and felt like I WAS Athena, which is the ultimate goal of any book IMO. This was my first Phoebe Alexander book-but it definitely won’t be my last! Incredible job. 5 stars.

Siren’s Call: Cursed Seas by Amy McKinley – Review by Kari Anne Horstman

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

  • This book is by far one of my favorite. I love the way McKinley weaves this world with a little bit of Myth, Magic, Monsters, and Mermaids. There are a couple places where the story could’ve used a bit more transition, and other times it could’ve used a little less detail. But it didn’t take away from the overall story. I seriously could not put this book down. I read it in just one evening. Very good job. 4 stars.View all my reviews

This book is a breakaway from my normal genre. I really like that while it’s a ‘book’ it doesn’t necessarily have to be read cover to cover. You can use this as a daily inspirational/meditative guide to remember that life is short so look for the good in everyday, because it really is there. Each short daily entry is very well written with incredible imagery. It captured all 5 senses and I felt like I was right there with her during each daily entry. Well done. 4 stars.

I can NOT praise this book enough! I couldn’t put it down!! It was extremely well written and a fun read. Incredible detail to the back story and ‘building’ the world this story takes place in. I genuinely hope we get some kind of sequel because I love these characters!! Literally one of my favorite reads this year. Very well done. 5 stars.

The Dreamer's VengeanceThe Dreamer’s Vengeance by Helen Tyree
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book is a departure from my normal genre but I have to admit, I did enjoy it. Tyree is skilled at making her readers form a bond with her well developed characters. You think you’ve got the plot and ending figured out only to have twist after twist. The writing seemed a bit heavy at times. I wish the story had been divided into multiple books to allow for a bit more development between parts. Fun plot with an exciting, cathartic conclusion. Nice job. 3 stars.

Kathryn Berla Beau& Bett

This book is one of the best I’ve read in a long time. You get sucked into the characters lives and immediately fall in love. The Beauty and the Beast premise is normally tired and overdone, but this was written to perfection. The story clipped along at a good pace with enough hurry up and wait that you could REALLY feel Beaus plight. So many little side stories incorporated without a flaw. I am so hoping there’s a sequel coming! I can’t wait to read more about these characters and see their development. Well done. 5 stars.

Whom Shall I Kiss… An Earl, A Marquess, or A Duke? (Tricking the Scoundrels #1) by Laura A. Barnes – Review by Kari Anne Horstman

Whom Shall I Kiss... An Earl, A Marquess, or A Duke? (Tricking the Scoundrels #1)Whom Shall I Kiss… An Earl, A Marquess, or A Duke? by Laura A. Barnes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Laura A Barnes ‘Whom shall I kiss?…an Earl, a Marquess, or a Duke?’ is the perfect read for a lazy summer day. It took a chapter or two to really get into the book, but once I was hooked, I couldn’t put it down. Barnes keeps your attention using multiple well developed character arcs and a quickly moving story. She is descriptive in her writing and you really feel as if you’re part of the story. I was sad when I finished reading and was left wanting the next installment. Well done. 4 stars
