Oscar and Emmy Lose a Friend: A Story About Euthanasia was a wonderful and heartbreaking read. It’s perfect for helping to explain loss and death of a family pet to children, or even a simple way to help young adults process the grief. The story explains enough without being too detailed on a delicate matter, while also being straightforward and not sugar coating things, as does tend to happen when explaining something so painful to children.

I really enjoyed Wandering Isles! The main characters had their own series in the Crown of Stones. I haven’t read that one, and this one really does well standing alone. I wish I would have anyway, but Schneider does an amazing job of filling in the gaps and history from the previous series without it taking away from the current one. I really did love that.
I say that it was a little bit of a slow start, which it was and it wasn’t. While the “trouble” on the island did happen pretty soon into the book, it still felt like it took a bit to get to it. Maybe because of the backstory, I’m not sure I’m explaining that right! Without giving away any spoilers, once I dived a little deeper in the book with Ian and Jarryd, I was well and truly hooked! I love the world building, how amazing and rich the characters are but both different and unique in their own ways. I immediately jumped to Fortune’s Favorite as soon as I finished Wandering Isles and loved that one even more! Can’t wait for more!

I absolutely LOVED Fortune’s Favorite! Almost immediately the action begins. Amazing world building, captivating and intriguing. I could not put it down. I did not read the previous books from the series (started with Wondering Isles) and you really don’t HAVE to. I wish that I would have, but the background is given so well that this new series really can stand alone. The characters are so incredibly diverse and well written. I truly enjoyed it and hope you do too!

I really enjoyed Flowers of Evil by N. L. Holmes. Egyptian times have always fascinated me and I absolutely love the world that Holmes created! Bringing ancient times to life, painting vivid scenes and characters but also relatable. you can feel the injustice and unfairness of how Neferet and Bener-ib are treated because of their gender.
Of course, with rich worlds and deep characters comes a lot of lengthy paragraphs of descriptions, which can be harder for me to fall into. But I had no issues with this one, as it captured my interest and imagination completely. Really looking forward to the next one!

A Match Made in Montana was a sweet romance and easy to read. It is a part two of a trilogy, but can somewhat stand on it’s own. It does move super fast- like within first chapter the romance is made known. Maybe there was more backstory and chemistry that I missed from the first. I like the character development with Craig, I wish there had been more in the storyline with the ex-fiance… he kind of just showed up and made a tiny amount of drama but that was it. Wish we could have dived a little deeper there. But still overall a good book and a fun read. Def recommend if you’re looking for a good and steamy romance.

The story of Ruarnon and his friends continues in part 2 and I loved it as much as the first! The Secrets of the Sorcery War by Elise Carlson continues to paint elaborate lands, vivid imagery, and rich character portrayals. I love how in this book the chapters/sections are divided between Ruarnon and their companion’s perspectives on what’s going on, not just getting one side. You can see the growth and the internal struggles that is facing everyone. This one did take me longer to get through just because there was SO much more going on. Even though it’s a part two in the trilogy, and there are still endings to be concluded, I also love that it didn’t end on an intense cliff hanger until part 3.
Overall very well written and easy to lose yourself in the storyline! Cannot wait for the 3rd.

I loved Trapping the Butterfly by Debra Parmley! The characters are believable and relatable. It’s a super easy read, and hard to put down! I read this in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down. There was romance, exploration, danger and excitement but I would say still appropriate even for mature YA readers. Set in prohibition times, Bethany’s overprotective guardians (aunt and uncle) are determined to continue managing their niece (and her inheritance) by arranging a marriage with an unsavory business partner. While vacationing at the hot springs, Bethany unknowingly befriends a woman who is caught up with a gangster working closely with Al Capone. As she catches the eye of another gangster, Bethany is caught between the excitement and newness of this dangerous world and the safety of her new friend, Paul, a detective undercover watching the mobs activities.

Wow there is a LOT that happens with this book! Action packed right from the beginning, there’s not a whole lot I can say that won’t give away too much. The story focuses mainly on Ruarnon and their struggles as a teen when regency is suddenly thrust upon them, but also features detailed supporting characters. Very rich character development. I also liked seeing the similarities between Ruarnon and their opposition… seeing they had very similar struggles but how they handled things were vastly different and therefor the outcomes were as well.
There were definitely some twists and surprises that I didn’t expect, and that always makes for a good read! I just started the second one and am already hooked there as well!

I loved A Curse of Ash and Iron, by Christine Norris! She takes a classic (and at times, really overtold) Cinderella/evil stepmother plot and gives it a totally unique twist! I was really captivated by the story line, the characters were amazing, and the happy ending was unique. Would definitely recommend!

The Romanov Heiress, by Jennifer Laam, was not what I expected! I knew I would enjoy it, as I usually do period books and I am completely fascinated by the Tsars and their history. What was unexpected for me was not being able to put it down! It was very easy to read, with wonderful characters that were relatable. There was a twist with the “villain” that surprised me as well. I thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait until the next!

In this series, the Lord of Lust focuses on Richard, a middle aged man with a beautiful wife and son, a distracting babysitter, and a seductive supervisor. Lust-filled and erotic, this book is definitely for a mature audience. Sweet Temptations features very descriptive sexual encounters, each one more intriguing and fantastical than the last. Very easy to read with a simple to follow plot, Sweet Temptations even has a plot twist that I did not anticipate. 4 out of 5 stars.
