48 The House that Adelia Built AUDIO BOOK by Mya O’Malley – Review by Kayla Bullock

The House that Adelia Built intertwines the stories of 2 women, Adelia and Hope. Adelia-1875, living as a wife to Augustus, the lighthouse keeper. Hope-2017, living by the lighthouse and giving tours of the old property. When Hope starts having dreams that she can’t explain, she begins to dig into the history of the lighthouse. A delight to listen to, with unexpected twists and turns and an ending I didn’t see coming. The pacing of the story is great. The reason for 4 instead of 5stars is that I felt like the time with Adelia jumped around a lot and should have been smoother

The Web of Humanity by Maria Turchin – Review by Kayla Bullock

The Web of Humanity: A NovelThe Web of Humanity: A Novel by Maria Turchin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Web of Humanity tells the story of Anna, who travels to Europe in order to solve a decades old family mystery. Full of history, mystery, and great characters, this is a must read story for anyone who enjoys historical fiction. The vivid descriptions and colorful characters make the story relatable, heartwrenching, and take the reader back in time. With unique story telling styles and talent, Maria Turchin has written a wonderful masterpiece.

One of the most enjoyable parts of the book is that for most chapters, the final sentence of a chapter is the first sentence of the next chapter. I enjoyed this as a good way to streamline the story. Anna is a very real person in the story, and the reader can feel her excitement, anguish, and determination throughout the entire story.

5 stars, must read!

The Way to Storey by L. B. Anne – Review by Kayla Bullock

The Way to StoreyThe Way to Storey by L.B. Anne
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The Way to Storey tells the story of Lu, a young girl being raised by her grandfather. Lu is homeschooled, and runs wild through the swamps that surround their home. Her grandfather has told her, however, that they are from another place, Storey, and that if anything ever happens to him, she is to “Follow the Birds” and they will lead her to Storey.

A sweet story of adventure, the characters are likeable and the book is fun to read. However, the ending was abrupt and was a let down after the build up of the rest of the book. Hopefully, the author continues the story with more books! Would make a great series!

But when Braelynn defends herself against a vicious attack, their secret affair comes to light, bringing with it mafia trouble and the scorn of Seth’s family. Sons of Sindicato was a fast paced novel told from both Seth and Braelynn’s point of view. The story was well written and character development was great. I will be reading the rest of the novels in the series!

The result of a deadly viral outbreak worldwide, August Island quickly develops a community. Working hard, making friends, and finding love, Cam is content. Until Freyja, his partner, goes missing. Cam sets out on a journey to find her, in the process finding himself and discovering other communities. This story is wonderfully told, and was hard to put down. Our Wicked Lies by Gledé Browne Kabongo – Review by Kayla Bullock

Our Wicked LiesOur Wicked Lies by Glede Browne Kabongo
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Our Wicked Lies spins a tale of love, friendship, and ultimate betrayal. Alicia thinks she has a perfect life with her husband and two teenage daughters. But her dreams are shattered when she discovers disturbing emails between her husband and a stranger named Faith. Full of twists, turns, and a good story line, the story is well developed and the characters are relatable. However, there are some parts where the story skips ahead and it took a bit to figure out the timeline and what was going on. The point of view switches quite often and made parts of the story difficult to follow. A good story that shows even the most perfect relationship can be based on lies, Our Wicked Lies was a good read.

Myths & Legends: An Indie Love Anthology – Review by Kayla Bullock

Myths & Legends was not at all what I was expecting.  Although I did enjoy some of the stories, I felt as though several of them did not really fall into the category of myths or legends.  I was expecting amore updated version of classical mythology.  While some of the stories delivered this, such as Queens of the Underworld, others did not come close.  Each story is written by a different author, which made each story unique.  Focusing on differing ways of falling in love, the stories make for an interesting read, but some stories felt rushed at the end and needed to be expanded further.

Jake the Growling Dog Goes to Doggy Daycare

4 stars

Jake is nervous when his family goes away for a weekend and he is being sent to doggy daycare. Will the other dogs like him or will his growl scare them away? A refreshing story for young children, Jake shows that it is okay to be nervous about new adventures, but that great things can come from it. Written in rhyme, the story is fun and the illustrations are beautiful. A wonderful story of facing fears and new experiences, Jake can help children adjust to changes and overcome fears.
