Under the Bandage By Lois Wickstrom is children’s book that children ages 5-8 can enjoy. We loved reading this book and learning about how our bodies fight off bacteria/infection. We learned about different kinds of bacteria and infections how to treat them. We’ve read several books by this author and we love her colorful illustrations that help bring the story to life. I love that my son actually learns something useful from reading this authors books. We highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. We look forward to reading more from this Author.

My entire household always loves it when I bring home a book by this author! This one had little bits of educational information on most pages but still short enough to keep my youngest’s attention. I struggle with getting him to keep his bandaids on, so this was perfectly timed and right up his alley. The story has rhyming throughout which had us bopping along with the rhythm. I think it was really cool for both of my kiddos to see illustrations explaining how our bodies heal the bumps and scrapes that we get. This is definitely one of our top favorite books by Lois Wickstrom and hope we get to see more like this in the future! I highly recommend picking this up and sharing with the young ones in your life whether that’s at school, at a doctor’s office, or at home.

This was cute. Annabelle has been able to outwit Mr. Bonbon but has she finally met her match when his plan is put into action? Great illustrations.

My 7 year old daughter has been learning about the human body at school and just yesterday was telling me about the body’s blood cells. I felt that Under the Bandage by Lois Wickstrom would be a great addition to her library. It was cute to see her brain connect things she’s learning while reading a children’s story and it welcomed a conversation about what she’s learned which is always cool. As a pediatric nurse and a mother, I really enjoyed this book.

Marshmallow Rabbit is a cute children’s book that children ages 4-8 can enjoy. My six year old son loved this book so much we’ve read it several times already. The colorful illustrations help bring the story to life. Annabelle is a young girl who loves candy. She loves it so much she takes some every time Mr.Bonbon has a tour. Well he comes up with the perfect plan to stop her from taking his candy. A big Marshmallow Rabbit. She tried to take it but literally the Rabbit stuck to her. Annabelle is a sneaky clever little girl. Did she out smart Mr. Bonbon? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. My son and I love this author and look forward to reading more from her soon.

Yet another book that I wish every shelter and rescue could have 🐾❣️
Having been involved myself with feral care and fostering this story really touched me and the thing is children are like sponges and if we can get the mindset right at the foundations then we have great building blocks for the future ….
Adopting and fostering is a big step and this book and it’s illustrations explain everything so beautifully and both adults and children can learn so much from this read 🐾❣️📚lessons in caring and nurturing is given but also the harder part , letting go to their new homes and that’s a life lesson that is both heartbreaking and rewarding 🥰
I’d love to have copies in my school library to share with my little friends !

This is an imaginative book with wonderful illustrations that brings the story to life. There’s humor, mischief, and lots of candy. Your children will enjoy this sweet story.
Annabelle has a major sweet tooth and loves to visit Mr. Bonbon’s candy factory. Mr. Bonbon learns that Annabelle is pilfering his candy and this makes him very upset. He sets up a trap to catch Annabelle in the act during one of his tours.
This is a cute book but not one among my absolute favorites from this author. It has a Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory air to it. The illustrations are very well done. My favorite page is the one showing Mr. Bonbon laying in his “too small” bed.

Kris and The cowboys This is book three in The Adventures of Kris. Kris’s adventures have definitely become a series of books that are a favorite of mine and my grandkids and this one did not disappoint. With her vividly wild imagination Kris brings us on an adventure like no other, a Cattle Drive. Full of rustlers, Indians, horses, high stakes, a hungry mountain lion, a missing cow and more. These are great chapter books and are perfect for 6-10 yrs of age.

Under the Bandage is a fun, engaging and imaginative story. With some of the pages have very interesting facts to learn….the story is told in a rhyme….what can happen after you skin your knee!! We learn as we follow each page to clean and cover the hurt so it feels better…..but how our body helps the healing.
This was a fun story. The illustrations were very colorful and really brought the story to life. While this book is more for ages 5- 8 years of age even the young at heart while you read to the littles can learn some new things as well and I loved that about this story.

Kris and the Cowboys is the third book in The Adventures of Kris series by Art Blegen. This is a fun and intriguing instalment in this children’s (beginner) chapter book series- aimed at children aged 6 – 10 years…. Mr. Blegen always manages to come up with fun, new adventures for Kris to get swept into- and this one finds her on a cattle drive that will challenge her along the way. It’s a wonderfully vivid story which is easy to understand, and easy to read. Another well written, and imaginative story which is accompanied by some small (B + W) illustrations (heading up each chapter) that also help to bring the story to life. Kris’s love of reading, along with her very vivid imagination means that she finds an ‘adventure’ wherever she goes. This story starts with her father dropping her off at Uncle Buddy’s ranch where Kris learns to ride a horse, and learns about a ‘working’ ranch and ranch life. When Uncle Buddy sets off on a cattle drive, Kris is determined to tag along- but Uncle Buddy doesn’t think she’s experienced enough just yet. But, Kris finds her own way of getting on a cattle drive- and is soon swept into an adventure with mystery, high stakes, rustlers, a missing cow, Indians, a hungry mountain lion, a flash flood that sweeps through the canyon they are travelling through, danger, dramatic developments, challenges, thinking ‘on your feet’, overcoming obstacles, a rescue, new friendships, family, and more. What happens makes for a great little read. Each instalment in the series could be read as a standalone, as each has its own fully contained adventure, starring Kris. So there’s absolutely no worry that you might end up feeling like you are ‘missing’ anything that occurred in the previous books which might affect this story. But, having said that, Kris finds herself in lots of interesting situations that results in fun adventures- which you will definitely want to be part of…. Under the Bandage is a fun children’s story by Lois Wickstrom. The story has an educational component, as it helps to explain our bodies immune response/immune system, how it deals with bacteria/infection (liking it to a battle with soldiers), and the healing process- as well as other interesting facts found on nearly every page…with a list of our body’s main defenses found at the end of the story. Our little MC skins his knee while playing, so after washing it clean, his mother puts a bandage on it and tells him that it will heal faster if he doesn’t peek- and also tells him that he will need a new bandage put on it every day, for a week. He is very curious about what is happening ‘Under the Bandage’…. The illustrations are really cute- big, bright, bold, and colourful – bringing the story to life and really grabbed my grandchildren’s attention. The story is told in a rhyming verse, which added an extra element of interest to the overall story. While the ‘story’ itself is written in a way that is easy to read and understand, the ‘interesting facts’ portion of the story has some ‘bigger’, more complicated words which children may have trouble reading and understanding (but those parts could be skipped over if you wanted, without affecting the ‘actual’ story). 4 stars Under the Bandage is another unique children story from Lois. The story is told in a rhythmic rhyming way that makes the kids want to join in. Not only is there is the main story, but Lois also includes smaller pictures and information facts pertaining to a certain portion of the story. Follow along as what started out as a scrape turns into a war. A troop of soldiers ready to defend and repair and stop those that are attacking. What better and fun way to teach little minds and explain what is going on so they are not so worried about scrapes and injuries. But this is what Lois does, she takes a topic and makes it into a bright, colourful and fun learning experience without them even knowing because to them it is just a story. I would recommend this book for any 5–8-year-olds. Have fun reading.

Follow along as Kris is out in the beautiful countryside where things are not what they seem. With Cowboys, Indians, horses, cattle rustlers and much, much more there is something for everyone.

After reading the Detective Dylan and the Hunt for Home Plate another Chapter Book by this author.( which the kiddos love ) I had to check this out. This is the first book from The Borosa Legacy following Amese who is 13 years old who’s trying to figure out her abilities and her destiny. We made quick work of this magic filled adventure, just like the other book. After the Cliffhanger we definitely can’t wait for this next part to come. What another great book from this author. I highly suggest getting and reading with the kiddos You will not regret it. 🥰

It is the summer of 1976 and Scoob has the chance of a lifetime to play trumpet with a band. Even though she is only eleven, she is talented beyond her years but when her brother RC insists they are heading out of town so he can perform at a music festival, Scoob has no choice but to follow. Scoob learns some tough lessons in life all the while trying to get back to audition for a major band. Life has a way of taking turns you do not expect though and Scoob will turn twelve soon and life lessons are going to be a bit harder to swallow, but hope is a powerful thing.
This was intriguing. I think the author got the vibe of the seventies correct, it was a different time and people were a bit more carefree and open. Scoob’s story was a bit heartbreaking as she had her own life path she wanted to follow. Was pulled in and curious where the story would go.

If you read any of my reviews, you know I’m a huge fan of Lois Wickstrom! Of all the books I’ve read by her, this one is, hands down, my ABSOLUTE favorite….so far!! She writes so well that this one might be demoted at some point but it will take a lot.
This story features a young boy who loves toy soldiers. One day he has a boo-boo on his knee and his mom puts a bandage on it. The story talks about how the toy soldiers and engineers are working to put his skin back together.
I absolutely love the analogies used and I wish I would have had this book back in my nursing days. I would have read this to every one of the kiddos I took care of! The author goes a little further in depth in this story by telling about some of the bacteria that invade the body. There are some larger words here but it’s great learning for kids and adults alike! She also stresses the necessity of handwashing!
I love that this book releases today in the midst of National Nurses Week too!

“Kris and the Cowboys” by Art Blegen is a captivating tale that will transport young readers to the Wild West. The story follows Kris, a brave and resourceful protagonist, as she embarks on a cattle drive with a group of cowboys across the beautiful American landscape.
The adventure begins with a mystery: a cow has gone missing, along with one of the cowboys, Bart. Kris and the others are convinced that Bart is a rustler, and they set out to retrieve the stolen cow and bring the culprit to justice. However, their journey is fraught with challenges, including encounters with Indians, wild animals, and a devastating flood. I personally felt it was too many events that are farfetched in one short day in Kris’s life, but this is fiction!
One of the standout aspects of “Kris and the Cowboys” is its well-developed characters. Kris is a relatable and inspiring protagonist, while the other cowboys add depth and humor to the story. The supporting characters, including Bart and the tribe’s leader, are also well-written and add richness to the narrative.

This was a neat story. Kris has a fun imagination. Her great-uncle won’t let her go on the cattle drive so she dives into a story about cowboys and off she goes on a fantastic imaginative journey. I love her courage to do whatever anyone else does. She’ll do what the adults don’t. She does a brave act to rescue Patches. The characters are quite interesting, and the story keeps kids engaged. My grandchildren enjoyed hearing this at storytime. I do hope we might get some more Kris adventures down the road.

The artwork in this book is beautiful, very eye catching for children, with lots of details to see. I love that this book is about a good old classic, peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Almost everyone enjoys a good PB&J, this book makes it more interesting by adding things that animals would enjoy with it, such as, a crocodile adding fish, a snake adding a mouse etc. Basically everyone far and wide enjoys a PB&J and they can be made multiple ways with different ingredients. Very fun book.

This might be my favorite adventure with Kris yet. I loved learning about horses and the Sioux Indians right along with Kris. I was afraid this was going to be another dream but so glad Kris is able to experience everything along side her uncle. Kris is very brave and courageous, I love that she stands up for people she doesn’t even know, showing kindness right away.
“Wouldn’t it be better to see if somebody is mean to you before you are mean to them?”
That got me! Excellent point Kris, great lesson for us all. I really enjoyed watching Kris become a cowboy like she wanted but also fitting in and forming a bond with the Sioux, even so far as being bestowed an Indian name by Chief Buffalo. Keep the adventures coming Mr. Blegen!

This is the story of how our bodies heal after getting hurt. I absolutely love how Wickstrom is able to take something so scientific and break it down so that not only is it understandable for kiddos but its also fun and entertaining. Our main character has skinned his knee after a fall and his mother puts a bandage on it and tells him not to peek because his body needs to be able to heal. Throughout the story, we learn exactly what our body is doing, phase by phase, as it heals. Wickstrom also includes some sidenotes with interesting little tidbits that are good for more advanced readers. As usual, the illustrations are fantastic and follow along perfectly with the story. This story rocks. It makes learning about healing wounds so much fun. The descriptions are really adaptable to a child’s level. The illustrations are so colorful and fun. The information on the healing process is bite-sized. Being an adult, I enjoyed reading this story. This would be a cool book to have in doctor’s offices to help kiddos. It’s a definite in family libraries. You must check this one out.

What an amazing read. I was hooked the moment I started it. A story of basically growing up and learning what family is. This story will tug at your heart strings. You will definitely feel every emotion. The main characters are so wonderfully written. A story of two siblings trying to survive and understand each other and the choices made. This is also the story of a community in Idaho that pulled together after a natural disaster. It’s a beautiful story that I couldn’t put down. I recommend you give this a read.

Lois is a former science teacher. She has written a series of science-based folktales. In each modernized tale, the protagonist achieves a better ending because of learning scientific principles. Lois likes to garden, ride her bike with her husband, cook, and she votes in every election.

Art Blegen is an author of children’s books for young readers. His series “The Adventures of Kris” features a feisty young girl based on a young baseball player he once coached.
Art is an advocate for educating children and their parents to ensure they have a healthy balance of positive examples in their lives. Wholesome stories and a healthy imagination can lay the foundation they will use for the rest of their lives.
Before returning to school to receive his Master’s of Divinity in 2018, he spent ten years coaching youth sports. This gave him a deep insight into the ways children’s minds work and how to tap into their vivid imaginations.
Art is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church. One of his favorite moments each week is when he has the opportunity to sit down with the children in the church for story time.
Each child is important, and each family matters to Art. Art is active in his spare time, playing with his grandchildren, and serving the community by encouraging places and activities where children can thrive.

Instead of fear, she finds an adventure, she meets an elf called Gregory who needs her help to find the missing Prince and the Mayor of the forest, but can Kris help to free them from the evil gnome Gnarlath and make her way back home, or will she be lost in the woods forever? This is an adventure book which is full of heart, where imagination and friendship abound and can make everything seem possible.

Summer of Mud by Rebecca Bischoff is an intriguing adventure story, a bit of a self-discovery story which is aimed at middle grade aged children (8 to 12 years old). I always enjoy Ms. Bischoff’s stories as she has a knack of painting such vivid imagery that her stories come to life, playing out before my eyes in rich detail. Scoob is a talented 12 year-old musical whizz, with jazz music igniting her blood and soul. With the chance of a lifetime up for grabs, Scoob is excited for the opportunity to shape her future by getting her big-break and making her dreams come true…. But instead, she finds herself on a bit of an unwanted road-trip with her older brother. Soon, circumstances have them stranded in a small town in Idaho, where neither could have foreseen or prepared for what happens next. When a catastrophic disaster strikes, the story becomes a fight for survival. Throw in some secrets, family dynamics, emotion, suspense, tension, dramatic developments, love, loss, heart-wrenching details, twists, community, controversy, and finding what really matters- I found this story hard to put down. What made this story even more intriguing, for me, was the fact that it is set against a real-life historical event, the Teton Dam Flood in 1976- where the Teton Dam wall catastrophically collapsed, releasing a deluge of water to engulf several towns in its path. The devastating aftermath, absolutely heartbreaking….
