Enemies of the Desert (Silent Secrets Series Book 3) by Lisette Kristensen – Review by Krista Beck

Enemies of the DesertEnemies of the Desert by Lisette Kristensen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Enemies of the Desert picks up after Blackbird squares off with Salena. I have to say that I am loving this series! Blackbird has Salena in her sights and she knows that she is behind the Wafa Idris. Is she right? Will Blackbird finally get Salena? The women in Mossad are so bada$$ and they can take on anyone and anything without blinking an eye. If you like action, you like take charge women then this is the series for you. As I said with the last book, I just wish the stories had more detail and were longer. Here’s hoping there is another one!!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love this series!!!! Dianna and Anders, now married, take on a cult that is taking college girls. Dianna finds herself in quite the predicament, which causes her to think about her future in the Agency. Cate was quite the surprise for me in this book. I would love to see her in other books. This series has action, tough women, hot men and they are just so well written. I am such a fan!

Murder Among Friends by Linda Burson – Review by Krista Beck

Murder Among FriendsMurder Among Friends by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Murder Among Friends is a great “who dunnit”! Cammy comes to stay with her brother and sister-in-law and their two kids. When the mother of her niece and nephew’s best friend goes missing, Cammy can’t help but become involved. This story will make you think its predictable and you’ve got the guilty party all figured out. Then the ending happens and leaves you “What the h*ll just happened?!” It’s a great story with a huge twist! Some of the scenes were longer than necessary and the repetitive use of baby/sweetie are just a huge pet peeve of mine, but this book was great!

Fierce Emotions (Marcy Series Book 8) by Linda Burson – Review by Krista Beck

Fierce EmotionsFierce Emotions by Linda Burson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Fierce Emotions is book 8 in the Marcy series. I strongly suggest reading the series in order. Marcy is married to Brad and Liam and all seems to be going well, until . . . .

I am not a big fan of the series as I just do not like plural relationships, so I find myself skipping through most of the relationship reading and getting to the story line. That is the part that I do enjoy. The stories are well written and the characters are interesting. It’s great the Linda Burson is able to come up with something different for them in each book.

If the plural relationship doesn’t bother you and you like a good adventure then this is definitely the series for you!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Edge of the Storm picks up with Blackbird as she goes on her first mission with Halo in Rome. When Halo is taken, Blackbird has to put everything she has learned to save her partner. I am loving this series! The suspense, the action, the bada$$ women the story revolves around. The only thing I’d like to see is more action and a longer story!

Rage (The Marcy Series Book 1) by Linda Burson – Review by Krista Beck

Rage (The Marcy Series, #1)Rage by Linda Burson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Marcy is a happy woman with a man she loves and a successful business who seems to develop anger issues out of the blue. Faced with getting help or losing her boyfriend, Marcy decides to get help and get to the bottom of her issues. I actually read the second book in this series first and I’m glad I did. This book for me moved very slow and it felt like it took me forever to read, not to mention the emotional back and forth with Brad will give you whip lash. Brad is not very likable in this book and I think he needs to work on his own issues. Book 2 definitely picks up and was better for me, so the series is worth the read.

Blinded by Betrayal with Spin Drift: Book One (Silent Secrets) by Lisette Kristensen – Review by Krista Beck

Blinded by Betrayal with Spin DriftBlinded by Betrayal with Spin Drift by Lisette Kristensen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Blinded by Betrayal follows what happens to Sloane after her husband rolls over on her mafia family. In the mafia, spouses are responsible for each other’s actions. When rolls over they both must die. With a contract on her head, Sloane has to think fast and act faster. Running to an old friend of hers for help, leads Sloane to a life she could never have imagined. I love a good mafia book and I love a strong female lead even more, so this book was right up my alley. I really enjoyed this book. I would have liked to have read more on Sloane’s training and I could have done without the introduction to the Chateau. I ended up skipping through most of that. It just didn’t go with the story to me once I finished the book. BUT, I still loved the story and I can’t wait to read the next one!!

Things We Lost (Loving Locksley Book 1)Things We Lost by Shae Banks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Nathalie and Jason were high school sweethearts, until he up and left for university without saying goodbye. Running into each other years later brings with it a possibility at second chances. Nathalie’s past has left her scarred and untrusting. Can she find it in herself to trust Jason or will her past come back to haunt her? The story line was so good and the characters are great! This is the first I’ve read from Shae Banks and I cannot wait for the next book! While it doesn’t end a cliff hanger, you know there is more to come for these two and I need to know what it is!

A Person Could Disappear HereA Person Could Disappear Here by Terri George
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I was very excited to read A Person Could Disappear. It started off great! But as the story progressed I found myself skipping ahead as the characters seemed to go off on tangents. Some of it may have been necessary but it threw the story off for me. I wanted to get the interaction between the characters. It has a good story line and the characters are interesting. It should have a trigger warning and some scenes were hard to read.

Garrett (Dark Water Security #2)Garrett by Madison Quinn

Garrett and Hope meet again after 2 years apart by chance. Hope is the housekeeper for Mr. Meyer and Garrett is working security for Dark Water Security. With the two sharing staff quarters they realize their connection is just as intense as it was the night they met. Both are dealing with trauma and find comfort and safety in each other. With their boss’s kinks and threats going on, can the two get past the traumas of the last two years?

This was a great read! I am really enjoying this series. The characters are believable and the story line is great! I’m hoping Cole’s book is next! My interest in him is definitely piqued after this book.

Surviving Valencia by Holly Tierney-Bedord – Review by Krista Beck

Surviving ValenciaSurviving Valencia by Holly Tierney-Bedord
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Van and Valencia are the perfect kids for their parents. Their younger sibling overlooked except by Val. Van and Valencia die in a car crash on their way home from college for Thanksgiving. Everyone’s life is changed.

The story flashes back between the present and the past. As I write this review, I can’t tell you the main character’s name, because I don’t believe it is every mentioned in the book. Which makes sense considering how she feels invisible all the time. That’s actually pretty brilliant!

The story is good, but I felt some of the flashbacks were not necessary for the book and made it feel slow to me. Things picked up for me when the envelopes started showing up. I found myself getting aggravated with her because she comes across so wishy washy and she is always giving into Adrian and never seems to stand up for herself. Until the end of the book, then I cheered for her.

When her past comes back to haunt her, and Adrian, things get really interesting. I would have liked to have seen more emphasis on this. While the ending does make sense with the way the book went, you still can’t help but want to see a tearful reunion. But, like I said, the ending actually makes sense.

Vantage Point (Gray Ghost #4)Vantage Point by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Okay, I thought the last Gray Ghost book was my favorite, but no. Vantage Point is the best one yet! Hawk is the quiet one of the bunch and becomes concerned about all the fighting he hears in his neighbors apartment. His neighbor, Stella, and her brother are constantly fighting over his gambling issues. Hawk’s instincts are correct as Stella is swept up in her brother’s latest. There is suspense, action, a feisty strong female lead and a hot alpha male. This book was just so good!!! I read it in one sitting. I’m hoping Keegan’s story is next!

Back in the RingBack in the Ring by Brooke May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Back in the Ring is a great second chance love story. Bijou is raising her daughter and trying to keep the youth center open after losing her husband. Noah is the hot single dad that just moved to town. He is also learning to move on after losing his wife. When the two meet, the connection is instant. This was just a sweet story. I have not read the other books in the series and had no problem reading it as a stand alone. However, I have very intention of reading the other books now.

I enjoyed Hawk and Lottie’s story so much! Rescued from a terrible situation, Lottie finds herself living with other rescued girls at Mrs. Ames house. Lottie meets Hawk, Mrs. Ames grandson. Lottie and Hawk see a broken soul in each other and develop a friendship. With their 7 year age difference can it ever be more? This was such a great story with gear characters. I love that Lottie over comes the hand she was dealt and works so hard to not let her past define her.

Seraphina has been having vivid dreams since she turned 18. But are they really just dreams? Especially when she sees the man from her dreams? Strange things begin to happen to her and around her. Things she cannot explain. People she cannot explain. But Nate, the man from her dreams, can provide the needed answers. This isn’t my usual kind of read, but I really enjoyed this book! Good versus evil at its best! I can’t wait to read the next book!

WTF, God?: Understanding God in the Midst of Transition by Michelle N. Onuorah – Review by Krista Beck

WTF, God?: Understanding God in the Midst of TransitionWTF, God?: Understanding God in the Midst of Transition by Michelle N. Onuorah
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

WTF God is one woman’s journey on her relationship with the Lord and her faith. I think we are all guilty of making plans for our lives and expecting them to go that exact way. Sometimes our plans don’t work out. Not just walking by faith, but in faith is an important part of life for a lot of people. One of my favorite parts of this book is when she is at her friend’s house and she can’t find the gift she brought with her. She’s searching through the car and it is the thing that sends her over the edge. She is so mad with God at everything that has or hasn’t happened. She finally lets go and screams at God. It’s part of having a relationship. Sometimes we get angry. That’s how my relationship with Him works. I love that she addresses that and says that its okay. This is just a great story of how God has plans for us and if we would just sit still and listen, we will know what to do.

Surviving Grace: Book Five by Virginia Wine – Review by Krista Beck

Surviving Grace: Book Five ( Surviving Series)Surviving Grace: Book Five by Virginia Wine
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The last installment of the Surviving Series follows Grace as she works at reclaiming her life back. Moving in with Nichole and her brother, Will, changes things for Grace and the direction her life is taking. As she makes peace with her past and looks to a possible future with Will, her parents have the potential to put it in jeopardy. I felt the drama with her parents was very rushed and could have played a bigger part in the story. All the characters from the other books come together towards the end of the book, which is nice to see where everyone ended up. Great way to end the series.

This series literally gets better with each book! Hard as Steel follows Steel and Nick as they navigate a case and their budding attraction for each other. Grace is a young girl that has managed to escape from horrors but has no memory of what happened to her. Running into Steel was a stroke of luck on her part as him and his partner Flynn stop at nothing to help her. This book has the drama and the action that seem to define Viriginia Wine’s books. She has quickly become a favorite author of mine.

Luke (Dark Water Security Series Book 1) by Madison Quinn – Review by Krista Beck

Luke (Dark Water Security #1)Luke by Madison Quinn

This was such a great story! Luke and Michelle meet under some very unfortunate circumstances.
They become everything to each other during the seven months they are together. When they are finally able to escape their circumstances they go their separate ways and try to get on with their lives. Ten years later their paths cross again when Emily comes to work for Luke. Working on a case together has them spending all of their time together. Reading about when they first met was heart breaking with some very sweet moments mixed in. There is a love scene during that time, which I skipped over. I just personally do not like reading scenes like that when the people involved are under the age of 18. That’s just me. Other than that it was a really great story with some great characters. I can’t wait to read Alec’s story. Hopefully his will be next!

Her roommate brings up the situation to her teacher, Janet, who is ex – covert agent, she immediately gets on the case. With the help of her husband, Cade, and others, they find themselves tracking down a human trafficking ring. This is a quick and easy read. I loved the characters in this book! Her ex-boyfriend, Jack, who is a former Navy SEAL, is sent in with his team to find Hannah’s boss and the secret weapon. Surviving Jordan (Surviving Series Book 3)Surviving Jordan by Virginia Wine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Surviving Jordan is book 3 in the Surviving series. Ben and Jordan have had feelings for each other for years, but never acted on it. Steel is a man who can get things done, protects those he loves and does what is needed. In book 2, Steel saved Jordan from Graham. In this book, they begin spending time together even though Jordan still has feelings for Ben. When danger comes knocking on Steel’s door, he pushes Jordan away. Will Ben be ready to act on his feelings? What is the danger that is knocking at Steel’s door? This book does a good job at including the main characters from the other books. I would have liked a little less focus on Ben and Jordan and more of the story with Steel’s situation. Other wise it was a good story.

Surviving the Storm is book 2 in the Surviving Series. This book focuses on Alex and Madison. There is so much suspense and action in this book. It is definitely the best in the series so far. Alex comes from money but he isn’t showy about it. Madison is an independent woman who is getting her clothing line up and running. We know from book 1 that Alex and Madison spent one night together and that she is already promised to marry Graham. So what happens next? You will have to read the book to find out! Theo and Eden are fairly prominent through out this book, so if you haven’t read book 1 you will want to.

While I found the characters interesting, I would have liked more of their back stories. I felt their back story was just thrown in to the story. I like the attraction between the two, but given the possible fall out that could happen, I expected Theo to put up more of a fight. The story was well written, the story line was good and I will read the next book in the series, as I really liked Alex.

This is just such a stand out series and worth the read. As the mom of an 18 year old daughter who was recently sworn into the National Guard, I have an even more appreciation for this story.
