Such a cute book. As a ladybug lover, I appreciate the need to teach littles about them, and how to care for them. The illustrations are great! I have added this to my list of books to gift little friends.
This story is an informative, yet entertaining story about a girl named Loretta. One day in the winter she finds some ladybugs and decides to bring them home. She becomes obsessed with finding all of the ladybugs. Eventually she has enough to share with neighbors. There were some informative details that I learned from this book. I think some younger children would be entertained by this story, but might struggle to read it independently. Ms.Wickstrom has once again done an excellent job at making science enjoyable to read about!

AH! What a CUTE read. I love finding books that my daughter and I can enjoy together. This was such a fun read- I loved ladybugs as a kid and thanks to this book I know how I kept killing them. 😂 I had no idea they stay dormant during the winter. I love not only reading with the kiddo- but learning with her! I’m excited to find a new author that my baby and I can share books with. She’s 4 and she loved it! (:
This was a really cute read. It is a very informational children’s book about ladybugs. This is not a book for younger children, I think it would make more sense to older children. The illustrations were cute as well. I look forward to reading this to my daughter when she gets older and understands more about ladybugs and science and has more comprehension when it comes to things like that.
5 Stars Ladybugs for Loretta (Loretta’s Insects) by Lois Wickstrom
Ladybugs for Loretta (Loretta’s Insects) is a cute children’s book that is fun for any age and adults will enjoy reading it as well. This is one author I never hesitate to read whatever she writes. My four year old enjoys her books just as much as I enjoy reading them to him. Her stories are fun to read the illustrations are also fun to look at . Each one of her stories teach them something. This one we follow along with a mischievous girl named Loretta who lives with her parents in a cabin in the mountains of Colorado. . Loretta loves the ladybugs that protect her garden but where do the ladybugs go in the winter? I highly recommend reading this children’s book and learn about ladybugs. My son loves books and this author gets big credit. We look forward to reading more from this Author .

This was an adorable children’s book about a little girl with a great love of nature. The pictures were fun and eye catching and the story was sweet. This is such a great story to teach you children about an important part of gardening and how much fun the outdoors can me.
This story is so fitting for my life at the moment. My daughter has just discovered bugs and is in the naturally curious phase and this book really seemed to hit on that. We both loved learning new things about ladybugs and it really sparked my daughters imagination. Loretta was just the perfect character for this story and the author really brought her to life. This author just seems to get better with every book we read and she is really solidifying herself as a family favourite. This is definitely going to be a book that is read multiple times and I can’t want to see what we pick up next.
Loretta is an inquisitive girl. She often spends time outdoor and in her family’s garden. On one of her many outings, she finds some dormant ladybugs not understanding that it is their nature to be still during the colder climate. As the winter progresses, she eagerly waits to bring the ladybugs outside to see what will happen.
I really enjoyed this one and learned quite a bit about ladybugs. I thought the way the story read it was one you could ask questions about, and I think children will definitely be engaged and curious about the science of the weather as well as ladybugs. Beautifully illustrated.

Ladybugs for Loretta (Loretta’s Insects) by Lois Wickstrom. I loved this sweet book about Loretta who is a little girl who is very inquisitive and likes to check things out. She finds a bunch of ladybugs and decides that she is going to save them during the winter. Loretta and her mom decide to put them in the refrigerator so they can put them in their garden in the spring. The only problem with that is when they wake up they begin to make a huge mess in the house. They put them back in the fridge and wait until Spring then another problem occurs…they run out of room in the fridge. Finally its Spring and they can put them in their garden. This is such a fun, cute book and really informative as well. I didn’t realize all the stuff about Ladybugs that I learned in this book. Would make a great gift for the child in your life!

I have read a couple books by this author and I think this is my favorite so far. This children’s story is actually semi-”normal” for this author and provides children with a lot of information. Loretta is a little girl who loves to be mischievous, who one day stumbles upon a group of ladybugs all huddled together. She decided to bring them home where she learns that ladybugs stay in one spot and don’t eat while it is cold. So, Loretta decides to store them in her refrigerator to keep them to help her garden grow in the spring. However, everyday she was bringing more and more ladybugs home and the fridge had no more room left. Finally, though, spring came and it was time for the ladybugs to do their job in the garden. That summer they had the best crops their garden had ever seen, but when winter came, once again they would go under a rock till the next spring. I actually learned something reading this book. I always knew that ladybugs were great for the garden. I went to a college that lived near a farm and each spring we would be bombarded with ladybugs in our dorm rooms because they used the ladybugs to keep all their plants healthy. However, I did not know about their habits in the winter. I found it strange and intriguing that Loretta kept the ladybugs in the fridge and they would be just fine once it was warm again. I love when I can read something that would teach my children and me something new and useful!!

I enjoy Lois Wickstrom’s books not only the adult in me but also for my great niece’s and nephew as well. As we open up the book, we learn that Loretta and her family have a big garden to take care of so they can have food for the winter. Loretta tries hard to make sure no critters take their food from the garden. Loretta finds these ladybugs and we journey to find out how ladybugs are beneficial to gardens.
This story really captures learning all about ladybugs, even I learned things I did not know myself and curiosity. The story is enjoyable for all ages.
This is a cute story about a mischievous little girl who falls in love with ladybugs and wants to save them all. Loretta as a character is true to a child’s view point. The reader cheers her on as she finds more ladybugs. Never thought about putting ladybugs in the refrigerator before, and the story gives the reader information about them on story form. The illustrations are beautifully painted watercolour scenes!
This is a very cute story and the first in the series. I read this to my niece and she absolutely loved it. Loretta lives in a cabin with her family and she is a little mysterious. She goes outside and finds some ladybugs. Loretta is very curious about how they live in the winter and she brings them home with her. She ends up understanding a lot more about ladybugs than she ever thought. This is a very cute and educational read for kids. Review @heatherbass
I enjoyed this book. I think it would be a fun book for kids to learn about ladybugs and then afterwards go outside and find some. The facts about ladybugs in this book is very education even to me, as an adult. I didn’t know that ladybugs were alive in the winter and lived in an almost state of rest until the weather warmed. It is also nice to see the little girl, Loretta, so interested in her garden and being outside playing.
This book is fun and teaches kids all about Ladybugs and their habits. How ladybugs help the gardens and where they go when it’s too cold for them. It is super cute and will help teach children to love ladybugs. Let’s just hope none of them want to store them in the fridge like Loretta. This book is educational and very fun. This author does a fabulous job teaching children through her stories.
This book was so interesting! I learned many new things about ladybugs. I really love children’s books that teach as well as entertain. I thought I knew about ladybugs. Turns out that there is always more to learn about anything. The words had me interested and the illustrations had me amazed. The illustrations were different than I have seen lately but so beautiful!! Will definitely be recommending, even gifting if possible.

Ladybugs for Loretta is the first book in the Loretta’s Insects series by Lois Wickstrom. It is a fun, fact-based, interesting, educational, and entertaining illustrated children’s storybook. This is not only a fun bit of an adventure, we get to learn all about ladybugs along the way. The story is cute, and also inspires children to learn while they read. I enjoyed reading the story with my grandson, but the illustrations didn’t quite grab his attention like most of her other books do. Still a fun read though. Happy reading!

Loretta is a little bit mischievous and loves to garden. Loretta wants to make sure that her garden is very fruitful and sees the ladybugs in her garden. She will do what she can to protect them through all seasons of their lives.
I learned some new things about ladybugs reading this book! I love Lois Wickstrom books and the lessons that are included within. Any of her books would make a great gift for the young (or even not-so-young) reader in your life!

Ladybugs for Loretta is another great book by Lois Wickstrom! This book does not disappoint with a great educational storyline. Children will learn about ladybugs and how they help gardens. The book also talks about the life cycle of a ladybug. A great learning experience could include getting ladybug eggs so that children can explore the life cycle of a ladybug themselves.

When I saw this one was being released by this AMAZING author, I knew that I had to read it too! I have read many of this authors books and I have loved every single one of them. This is a cute book for young readers about a little girl who finds ladybugs while playing in her families yard, and decides to protect them, since it’s starting to get cold outside. Loretta decides to bring the bugs inside to keep them safe until spring, with the hopes that they will help the family’s garden. The problem with this plan is that the bugs wake up once they warm up and start to make a mess of the house. Loretta’s mom has her put them in the fridge to keep them cool until spring when she can release them back into the wild. The problem is, after the initial group of ladybugs, Loretta keeps collecting them until her families fridge is completely full of them. The solution is simple, give them to neighbors! Once spring arrives, Loretta returns the bugs to the wild, and they help the family’s garden to be better than ever. My 8 year old daughter flew through this book, and loved it.

Reading this story helped to learn more about ladybugs and their habits. The story is both fun and factual as we journey along with Loretta in her garden and her love of ladybugs. The story is aimed at children aged 4 – 10 in primary (elementary) and one I am sure they will enjoy. As soon as we had finished this story my grandsons had me on our own garden adventure keeping an eye out for their very own ladybugs. Ladybugs for Loretta is another good learning story with colourful illustrations finishing out the book nicely.
I am loving Lois Wickstrom’s children’s books. This one is a great learning book with beautiful illustrations by Francie Mion. Loretta takes us on a journey of the lifecycle of the ladybug. From working in her garden through the seasons, to taking some ladybugs home to keep safe – we learn that they hibernate in the cold months, lay eggs when it begins to get warm and then they take care of our gardens. Loretta’s mom is great because she allows Loretta to keep the bugs in the fridge and teaches her how to keep them safe so they can do good things for our environment.

What a wonderful book that is fun and teaches about ladybugs and their role in the environment. I learned things I had forgotten. Such a very interesting book. My grandson and I will be reading it again this spring with our gardening unit for school. The characters are lovely. The story is very fun, and gives facts while maintaining interest. I enjoyed the story as my grandson did also. I think other kids will enjoy it also.
