Lilly is a young girl who is ready to head back to school but forgets her best friend, her stuffed bunny Hun Bun. Lilly is nervous with her “heebie-jeebies” on what to do and how she can go about her day at school without her stuffed bunny, Hun Bun.

With different ways to help Lilly when she feels this way, Lilly learns from the school nurse and a new friend, Noah, how to cope when her “heebie-jeebies” come back and make her feel nervous all over again.

This is a beautifully illustrated book that is a great teaching story as well. I loved how the author explained in the story to Lilly the different ideas on how to overcome her worries. While this book -is for ages 7-10, I believe this is a great story for all ages, I even learned some different ways to help me with my worries too. Wonderful book.

I work in children’s mental health and think the author did a great job discussing anxiety. Not only did she normalize anxiety on a children’s level, but she showed how Lily overcame a rough day of forgetting her stuffed rabbit. I look forward to reading this to kids at work.

I read Lilly Tames Her Worries to my 7 year old. It was a little over his head but I think it would be great for my older kiddos. I love that the author found a fun, gentle way to address anxiety in children. As a parent of a kid with anxiety, I think it was great. The 3-3-3 grounding technique is a great one. I have always heard of it was name 5 things, but the concept is the same. My son didn’t know the term heebie jeebies, but once I explained it, he could relate. It would be a good book for teachers to read to their kids for lessons on social emotional learning.

Lilly is a young girls who has a best friend called Hun Bun, it is her childhood toy and has been everywhere and done everything with Lilly and Hun Bun helps her when she gets worried and the heebie jeebies start, but one day she is in such a rush to go to school that she forgets Hun Bun.

She realises that she can’t go home and get him, but she worries that she won’t be able to get rid of her heebie jeebies and the feelings that make her heart pound and her pals sweat, but tries her best on the bus ride to keep calm, but when she is in the classroom she asks to leave because she doesn’t feel well and so she goes to see the school nurse who it turns out has a lot to teach her.

Will Lilly be able to learn how to control her heebie jeebies without Hun Bun, or will they win? This is a book all about learning to control your own heebie jeebies, or worries without your favourite security item and is done in a very charming and informative way which is easy to learn for all ages.

This is a pretty neat book for coping with anxiety and worries, not only for children but for adults as well. The author has come up with such a clever and simple story that we cannot help being in awe with it. Lily forgets her best pal, Hun Bun, her stuffed bunny, at home. Hun bun has always been with her and helps her get through any anxiety or stress. On the day Hun Bun is not there, Lily gets anxious. Her heart beats faster and her belly does flip flops. She goes to the school nurse who teaches her breathing exercises. She also teaches Lily to ask herself the reason for her anxiety.

It is a meaningful book with colorful illustrations. We all will gain something reading this book.

A great story for young children to learn how to redirect their fears or nervousness. Lily usually has Hun Bun, her stuffed rabbit friend she’s had all her life. When she forgets Hun Bun at home one day, she is scared and wants to go home. But the lovely nurse at school teaches Lilly a breathing technique to change what your mind is thinking.
It’s a very nice book and gives suggestions for keeping yourself from getting that nervous tummy ache when things don’t go as planned.
I think it would be helpful for kids of any age but especially kids in elementary to read.

When I was a little girl, I had a blankie that I took around with me. So did my youngest son. Lilly has a bunny. These are soothing items that have special powers to help us when we are anxious or scared. Lilly accidently forgets her bunny and when she gets to school she is full of anxiety. The school nurse helps her to learn some techniques she can use when she feels anxious. The story explains where the anxious feelings come from. This would be a great book to get if your child is anxious and needs to understand where those feelings come from.

Lilly Tames Her Worries is a children’s book that children of any age can enjoy. This is a wonderfully written story that teaches children how to handle different situations that may cause anxieties and how to deal with them. The illustrations are colorful and bring the story to life. We are learning how to manage our emotions and this book was a big help. My five year old son has a blankey he takes with him everywhere. The thing is raggedy and I have to sneak to wash it. He says but mom I can’t go to sleep without it. So he related to Lilly and he kept saying as I was reading that it would be ok lilly. He was being encouraging to her and I think he took away more than he realizes. Follow along with Lilly as she learns how to deal with the “heebie- jeebies”. I highly recommend reading this book and we look forward to reading more from this Author.,

This is such a sweet story. It would be perfect for a little one who is facing anxiety regarding anything. In this story Lilly forgets her stuffed rabbit, however, I could see this for a child who is suffering from separation anxiety, or who is beginning school for the first time. I like how this book takes the time to explain the physical symptoms that accompany anxiety and show how Lilly learns to face her anxiety.
As an educator, I am always looking for books that focus on social emotional skills, this book is an amazing one that I will be adding to my repertoire. I am frequently recommending to parents books that might help with something their student is struggling with. I definitely recommend this book to all parents!

I chose this book in mind of my kids going back to school this week. Children often have emotions that affect their bodies and many times they don’t know how to manage any of it. This book helps kids understand why it is happening and it offers a couple of solutions to help navigate those feelings. In this book the main character Lilly forgets her favorite stuffed rabbit at home. She uses this stuffed rabbit as a support stuffy. When she gets those pesky heebie-jeebies she would normally rub her rabbit’s ear, but because she forgot it at home she can’t. Once at school she sees the nurse who helps her with a breathing exercise that calms her down. A new friend at recess also shows her another way to help with belly butterflies. Throughout the book Lilly learns many things about her emotions and how they make her body feel. I would defiantly recommend this book to kids! My youngest daughter is eight, but I would say reading this to younger kids would be great as well. They younger they learn about their emotions and how they can affect your body the better. The illustrations are also wonderful! You can see the heebi-jeebies floating around her throughout the book. I can’t wait to read more from this author with my kids!

This was such a cute read and one that would definitely be a great addition to any child’s library both at home and school. The story was easy to follow and was beautifully illustrated. With some many children unfortunately displaying signs of anxiety this would be a great story to read with them about how to cope with their feelings especially as it is explained so well through the character of Lilly and how she deals with things that come up in her life. There are some lovely, simple activities for children to try.
A lovely read and I highly recommend it.

Wonderful book! I love that this touches on anxiety, especially in children. There is nothing to be ashamed of in having anxiety, but learning of ways to help yourself fight through it and cope is amazing. I love the square breathing technique and think I will actually try it out myself whenever I start feeling anxious. It is nice to see that Lilly uses her newly learned techniques while outside of her house to handle her heebie jeebies, but can still hang onto Hun Bun as her lifeline at home. The artwork in this book is so cute, Lilly’s sad face made me want to cry too.

Such a great book for kids of all ages! I know a lot of kids have security blanket or toy and this is a good book to read with them when you’re trying to have them not take it everywhere. I definitely suggest reading it if you notice your child is starting to show symptoms on anxiety, the main character tries some exercises to calm her anxiety that you can try with your kids. The author also mentions grounding methods in the back of the book. I also loved the illustrations and them showing the “Heebie-jeebies.”

Lilly Tames Her Worries is a cute, illustrated children’s book that provides strategies for dealing with anxiety and stressful situations through Lilly’s experiences over the course of the story.
Lilly has her favourite toy rabbit that she’s had since she was a baby, and it goes everywhere with her. This aspect of the story brought back many memories of my own children, and now my grandchildren, who had/have their own security blanket toy ‘friends’. Lilly’s is HunBun, the rabbit. So, things take a bit of an anxious turn when, for once, Lilly doesn’t have HunBun with her at school. What happens when the Heebie-Jeebies arrive? What will she do?
A great story, but an even better ‘tool’ to use to help teach children to cope with anxiety. Some ‘grounding’ methods are also explained at the end of the story.
Beautifully illustrated too.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Carole Heaney!

I absolutely loved everything about this book!! I have two kids, 7 and 11, and they both adored this book. The author writes Lilly in such a relatable way that we all saw ourselves in her. She has an emotional support stuffy, as most kiddos do, and forgets it on the way to school. I love that she found such supportive people in her life to help her name her emotions and teach her how to breathe when she gets the heebie jeebie feelings. I think this is a marvelous book for teaching kids of all ages the basics of calming your nervous system because they’re going to run into those situations and it’s helpful to have tools already prepared! Sweet Lilly smells an awful smell one day. She soon realizes that it’s her favorite bunny rabbit that goes everywhere with her. When her sister grabs her attention and they need to run out the door to catch the bus, Lilly realizes that HunnyBunny is not with her. She panics and isn’t quite sure what to do. School is hard that day because she isn’t feeling well. The school nurse teaches her about her amygdala and ways to calm herself down using the square breathing method. As other situations present throughtout the day, Lilly is able to build on her newfound strength and confidence to help her survive these other situations.

This is a super cute book that has excellent ideas for youngsters (and us older folk too!) in dealing with stress and anxiety. It would be a great book to have in any library and to share with those you love!

This was a really cute book! Lilly is a little girl who sometimes worries, but her stuffed bunny tends to help her deal with them. Well, what happens when you forget that buffer? Lilly forgets her bunny when she goes to school and starts to worry. Throughout the book a handful of people help her in different ways to handle her worries with breathing, naming her worries, etc. By the end, she feels good about having many ways to get rid of and handle her worries. I thought this was a great lesson for young individuals. I work in the psychology field and the number one problem I see today is that people were never taught coping mechanisms. A lack of coping mechanisms leads to this uptrend in anxiety. Learning them from a young age really helps the development process of people.

I appreciate the worries Lilly has are worries that many kids can relate to- washing a beloved stuffed animal, sitting next to someone new on the bus.

As an educator, I appreciated the inclusion of a breathing technique through the story, always great to find SEL related books that still tell a story! And includes the scientific words kids love to learn about. My school used brain in the hand, and this is a perfect fictionalized story to go along with it. Beginning and ending with a stinky stuffy leaves a clear message/reminder to kids (and adults) to be brave!

Lilly Tames Her WorriesLilly Tames Her Worries by Carole Heaney
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lilly Tames Her Worries is a kid’s book designed for children between the ages of six to ten years of age. The story centers around the character of young Lilly who suffers from the heebie-jeebies. Since she was born, she has always had her stuffed rabbit Hun Bun to keep her calm and soothe her worries. While in a hurry one morning Lilly forgets to put Hun Bun in her backpack before she goes to school. Once she is at school the pesky heebie-jeebies return and Lilly becomes stressed. Her palms begin to sweat, her heart starts to beat loudly, and her tummy starts to do flip flops. Not feeling well, Lilly asks her teacher if she can go to see the school nurse. She tells the nurse how she is feeling, and the nurse asks Lilly to try Square Breathing when she starts feeling the heebie-jeebies. When Lilly tries the breathing exercises, she feels better and practices using them throughout the day whenever a situation makes her worried. She also stops to ask herself what about the situation is causing her to feel the heebie-jeebies.

This was a wonderfully written book that helps children learn to manage stress and anxiety in situations that make them feel worried or nervous. The illustrations are bright, colorful, and really help bring the story to life. Although geared towards school-aged children I feel that it has some helpful pointers that adults, such as myself, could use as well. The techniques Lilly used through Square Breathing helped her to not only tame her worries but also helped her to be brave enough to do things that would otherwise be hard for her to do. She learned to ask herself what about the situation made her feel worried. Why was she feeling that way? What was she worried that would happen? Once Lilly tried the breathing exercises and realized why she felt the way she did it helped her to manage her worries and be brave enough to overcome them. This is a great resource for any home or school library to help children who suffer from worry, stress, or anxiety. I highly recommend this book!
