Luna the Howling Husky Finds Her Howl (Jake the Growling Dog World) by Samantha Shannon is such a cute and feel-good children’s book- suitable for all ages. The illustrations are just delightful and really make this story come to life. The are interesting, bright, and beautiful- all together, making a charming read. After reading Ms. Shannon’s ‘Jake the Growling Dog’ series with my grandson, and enjoying them so much- I knew he would love this one too. I think this is my favourite of her books, so far- and my grandson was captivated by Luna too. It’s a cute and sweet read with some adventure and wonderful lessons along the way, such as: finding our voice/speaking up, kindness- and how one small act of kindness can change someone’s day or life for the better, love, family, and friendship. It also promotes empathy, kindness, and acceptance. There are also some fun activities to find at the end of the book- a word search puzzle, conversation starters, a counting page, a kindness page, a critter search that spans the book, and a see-and-find-puzzle. A wonderfully immersive story with wonderful messages. Happy Reading…

What a wonderful story and such beautiful eye catching illustrations. This story can be enjoyed from the young and also the young at heart like me. I know my great nieces and nephew love this story as much as I do…..and we all can learn a great message from Luna the Howling Husky. Perseverance, kindness and friendship…this story of Luna is one of the best.
When Luna cannot howl like her brothers and sisters, Luna feels like an outsider. A chance encounter with Nemo the cat, Luna makes a new friend and they have so much in common. The bond of friendship between Luna and Nemo builds with kindness. Will Luna be able to be brave and find her “howl”?
This is a truly a heartwarming and fantastic story. I highly recommend this to anyone…

Luna the Howling Husky Finds Her Howl is another cute tale by Samantha Shannon. This is a wonderful children’s book that I am going to share with my grandsons, I know they will fall in love with Luna’s story as they loved her in Jake the Growling Dog. I enjoy reading with my grandsons, and especially the closer we get to Christmas as I am looking for presents for them so when this book came about, I jumped at a chance to grab it. The cover and illustrations are beautifully done and really bring the story to life. Finding your voice, making friendships and being kind to others are wonderful messages that not only young can learn about but adults as well. This book is 30 pages of fun and interaction and most definitely worth the read. It is aimed at children aged 6-10 but even those younger would love the story. A great story not to be missed.

I picked up this book expecting it to be a great book to share with the kids. I didn’t expect it would be one I connected with so much as a parent. Since my daughter has started school, the idea of ‘differences’ is a topic that has become prevalent in our house and this book really seemed to touch on that more. Seeing Luna and her struggles was so touching and emotional. I think this is the first children’s book that I had enjoyed the most. The illustrations in the book were beautiful and really caught my kids attention. They loved they story and learning more about Luna. She is the kind of character that they enjoy reading about. This is a fantastic story and is easily one of the best children’s stories we have read this year.

Oh, how I love this author! She brings to her stories the fact that being special is okay. We have Nemo, the cat who quietly meows, and Luna, who just can’t get her howl on. These two become best buddies. Can’t give too much away. You need to read this story. They are always so beautiful and heartwarming. The love of friendship and family will bring out just what Luna needs. A story that will be add to my collection to be with Jake the Growly Dog. Well done! I love Luna and Nemo!

The art in this book is absolutely beautiful. I can’t say enough how visually this book caught my eye, with the colors, style and the characters. Luna is a sweet husky who can’t howl and is kind of isolated from the other huskies at the home. Luna meets a cat that can’t meow and they become best of friends. Love can conquer all, including helping a young husky find her howl. I love that this book shows Luna getting adopted even being different. The extra fun pages at the end for kids makes this book so much better.

Samantha Shannon is a top-selling, American children’s book author and licensed educational counselor known for her Jake the Growling Dog picture book series. Ms. Shannon uses her background in education, love for nature and animals, and experience aiding in the healthy social-emotional development of children to create fun, impactful, and award-winning books.
With Samantha’s background in educational counseling, Jake’s stories focus on fun while also including important socio-emotional and character topics such as: friendship, kindness, mindfulness, diversity & inclusion, gratitude, sharing, disability awareness & loving-kindness and more. Each story includes fun and impactful activities for children, families, schools, & counselors centering on pure childhood fun, the topics touched on in the book, and encouraging creativity and imagination. Jake’s stories speak to all of us about accepting, and appreciating, the differences in others–both caring attitudes we need in our diverse and beautiful world.
When Samantha had her first child in 2009, she wanted to write a picture book based on her sister’s dog, Jake. While visiting her sister in the Pacific Northwest, Samantha realized that Jake growled all the time. He growled while playing frisbee, getting an ear rub, running, and even when he was sleeping! Despite his unusual choice of noisemaking, Jake is a sweet dog, which makes him the perfect character for a children’s picture book.
Samantha’s love for creatures great and small has led her to incorporate animals in all of the books- from eagles to cheetahs! Throughout her life, Samantha’s family has always included a dog, and they’ve always been more than pets. They were fur-brothers, sisters, and babies.
Samantha has also published multiple books under her pen name, Parker Sinclair, in the fantasy and YA genres. Samantha is not the UK based epic fantasy/YA fantasy author “Samantha Shannon” of the Bone Series.
