Come Home to DeathCome Home to Death by Marilyn Levinson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Where is Terry? Erica is disappointed that her husband of nine months has disappeared on one of his mysterious “business” trips. As she is walking up to the apartment complex, she notices a large blue car parked in front of the building. Before she can walk upstairs, Mrs. Bressler, her landlady, stops her and says that two men are upstairs looking for Terry. Afraid, Erica runs away to a local cafe. Unfortunately, the men saw her flee and sit down in her booth. Sean and Andy claim that Terry owes their boss twenty thousand dollars for a gambling debt. Tearfully, Erica claims she didn’t know where Terry went but she gave thema note Terry had left her the previous week. Sean gives her a card and tells her to call if Terry shows up.
On her walk towards her apartment, another man pulls up in a blue car. He claims he is a friend of Terry’s and wondered if she had seen him. Erica says no, the man introduces himself as Doug and gives her a card to contact him. Erica’s determination to help her husband leads her on an uncertain path for the future.

Come Home Death by Marilyn Levinson features Erica’s tumultuous life waiting for her inheritance. Her whirlwind romance with Terry Parker is unconventional. This unpredictable plot takes the reader on a journey seen through Erica’s eyes as she tries to make sense of who she married. Her dislike for Manordale is made clear, especially since she must deal with two eccentric aunts and the attempted romance advances both Doug and Jason make to her. Suspense builds as several revelations and murder fills each page. Whose life is on the line? Read this captivating novel to find out. Come Home Death will appeal to fans of intriguing slow burn romances.

This book has everything a good mystery needs, family secrets, money issues and attempts on someone’s life. I thought the characters were developed enough for the story line. There were twist to the story that I didn’t seem coming and played well to the overall plot. I will recommend this book to others as it was a very enjoyable read.

Come Home to Death had a lot of potential, but I just didn’t love it. It could have been a better book than it was…. The story was a good idea, but I really did not care for the main character, which made it hard to enjoy the book. Erica was such a weak character, she annoyed me. Never spoke up or stood up for herself. Made poor choices. Fell in love too quickly, more than once. I also figured out Doug’s character far before it was revealed. I think the author hoped we wouldn’t know until the very end, but it was predictable. I didn’t hate the book. It just was not a favorite… I will try another by the author- the book had a good story line, just needed stronger characters, or something to make the reader connect to them.

A book that should be added to (I’m sure Lengthy) TBR list, just go ahead and add it right now.

I really enjoyed this romantic thriller (if I were categorizing it). Levinson’s writing is very engaging, and thought provoking. There was certainly twists and turns I was not suspecting, which I enjoy. It’s always a buzz kill when you can figure out the plot twist, it’s best when you weren’t even close.
While reading Come Home to Death, I certainly learned some new vocabulary (thank goodness for the dictionary feature on the kindle).

This was my first read by Levinson but certainly not my last.

You absolutely need to read this book this summer. Starts with poor Erica being tricked and lied to by her husband, and the lies don’t stop there. Erica tries to help her husband by doing whatever she can possibly think of, even potentially severing some lifelong friendships. Along the way, Erica starts to find her voice and builds new friendships/relaionships. Everyone should read this!

Come Home to Death by Marilyn Levinson. This book was amazing. It is my favorite book I’ve read so far this year! It was fast paced and thrilling and left me guessing every page I turned! I can’t wait to read more by this author. This is the story of Erica who was raised by her aunts and once she left home she vowed never to return. She is a newlywed of 9 months and her husband is away on another of his business trips. While home alone some thugs show up telling her Terry, her husband, owes them money. Erica was left a inheritance and returns home to see if she can cash it in to pay her husband’s debts. When she returns home she finds out she has to be 25 to get her money and then she will be really rich. The only problem is some bad people want her gone so she can’t cash in on that inheritance and will do anything to get rid of her. Her life is in danger and Erica is going to have to figure out who she can trust and who she can’t. Such a fun fast paced Thriller. I was sad when it ended!

The honeymoon for Erica Parker is over after 9 months. At that time her life changes and someone is out to kill her. She can’t stay as her husband’s gambling debts need to be paid and her husband has disappeared on a mystery trip. She can’t go home to the little town she is from because someone there does not want her to get her inheritance. This has to be one of the most intense mysteries I have read in a long time. So much going on and so little time to read. The author has written this story to keep her readers engaged. Some of this story could be so true. It makes you keep reading. Fast paced, great characters and a romance to remember. A must have for all readers.

Come Home to Death by Marilyn Levinson is a romantic suspense book. When Erica Parker is found and questioned by two terrifying men about her husband Terry, she is terrified and confused. She has only been married for 9 months and knows little about her husband’s work. Erica soon finds herself in a nightmare turned reality as she finds herself in a very tangled web and does not know who she can trust. This story had a good premise. There are plenty of twists and turns. Watching Erica try to figure out who was targeting her was interesting. I liked her aunts and felt they meant well. There was a very good use of vocabulary, which also helped keep the writing interesting. Lovers of suspense should give this book a read.

This was another new-to-me author, and she told a good story. There were some twists I didn’t expect, which I love! There were a few sketchy characters in which the author leads the reader to believe one truth about them, but will have you second-guessing yourself as you read.

Being newly married, Erica Parker comes home to find thugs looking for her groom (Terry) to claim a debt he owes. On the lookout for safety, Erica returns to her hometown; a place she swore she would never revisit. While there, family members and close family friends begin to show their true colors when word gets out that Erica is about to come into a large sum of money. In a few short days, she will turn 25 and become an overnight millionaire. Now, she has a target on her back. What are those around her willing to do to get a piece of her money pie?

The author uses extensive vocabulary. 1/3 of the way through, I enjoyed learning new words. However, 39% through the book, it started getting on my nerves. It was almost like she knew what word to use, researched synonyms, and picked the longest word possible to replace it. In addition to that, the chapters were incredibly long, and I’m not a fan of lengthy chapters. They were roughly 22-35 minutes per chapter.

Overall, it was a good read, and I would check out another book by her.

As always,
Happy Reading! 🩷

This was my first book by this author and she did not disappoint. The author created a suspenseful tale full mystery, full of secrets, drama, and intrigue. Erica already has some concerns about her husband’s frequent business trips, but when two thugs accosted her in her own home and inform her that her husband has racked up gambling debts, she feels she has no choice but to packs up and head back to her hometown, to try and get the money to pay off the debt. Erica is a well written character who seems very genuine and down to earth, despite her life circumstances. Turns out, someone doesn’t want her to reach the inheritance age and we are taken into a fast paced world where danger is all over and Erica is finding out who she can and can’t trust. I definitely loved every second of the story and if you like mystery and intrigue, with some slow burn romance, I recommend getting this book!

Come Home to Death by Marilyn Levinson is intriguing romantic suspense- full of mystery, tension, dramatic developments, twists, secrets, danger, and emotion- with a tightly woven plot that and a cast of interesting characters. This might be the first book that I have read by Ms. Levinson, but it certainly won’t be the last.
Erica Parker is about to have her world turned upside down with the disappearance of her husband , while thugs turn up on her doorstep- leaving Erica no option but to flee. She finds herself back in her old ‘stomping-ground’ where things take an even more intriguing turn, especially with a target on her back. The story twisted and turned and kept me turning the pages to discover how everything would play out in the end.
Looking forward to exploring more of Ms. Levinson’s work.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Marilyn Levinson!

Come Home to Death is a romantic suspense tale by the award-winning author Marilyn Levinson. Having not read any of her books before I thought I would dive in, and I was not disappointed. The release of this book has been a long time coming for Marilyn and I am happy I got the chance to read it.
Money can be the root of all evil and it is just that in this cleverly woven complex mystery thriller. The suspense is palpable as it leaps off the page. This twisty tale will have you checking who is around the next corner and looking for what goes bump in the night.
Erica is surrounded by people with their own agendas, opinions, interference and controlling ways. There are deaths, threats, lies, secrets, who can she trust, who has her best interest at heart, who wants her dead? She thought she could some kind of refuge, but she had been silly to think so and realised why she left in the first place.
If you enjoy a good read, then Come Home to Death is one you shouldn’t miss.

Most newlyweds enjoy spending as much time together as possible, but that’s not true for the Parkers. In nine months of marriage, Terry has spent a good bit of time away. He tells Erica it’s for work but when two unsavory looking individuals show up on her doorstep and start demanding money, she’s not so sure she knows who she married. Then when she goes “home” to her aunts, she finds out even more family secrets abound. Whatever has Erica found herself into?

This was an outstanding thriller. Erica found herself in a bind when she learns her husband isn’t who she thinks she is. Then a bunch of shady characters pop into the picture. Erica goes home to Marondale and learns that she can trust no one because she will be coming into a large inheritance for her 25th birthday. This has someone trying to kill her to keep their deception secret. Can Erica survive this? This book left me feeling like I should be looking over my shoulder and I don’t have any riches to protect. I absolutely loved the writing. It felt thrilling. You felt your pulse reacting to every emotion. You’ll have fun trying to figure out what’s going on. Yes, I’m a bit twisted because I enjoy reading psychological thrillers. In the end, everything might come together or might not. You will have to find out. Are you up to it?
