Elusive: Dark Billionaire Mafia Romance (Billionaire Bodyguards Book 5) by Via Mari

5 Stars

Another fantastic book by this amazing author. This might be my favorite, although I think I say that after almost every one of them. I love a strong alpha male character as well as a strong, stubborn female and this one had both in spades.

I actually found myself laughing at times with the interaction between these two. I loved it. I especially loved the ongoing suspense and edge of my seat reading. I read this in one sitting because I simply could not put it down. There were quite a few steamy scenes and I did skim through some of those as I was too interested in the story itself to take time out for those.

This author is simply amazing, every book is as good if not better than the last. I highly recommend looking her up and reading all of the books in the multiple series they are all associated with. Her characters pull you in and really make you feel like you’re right there.

Loved It!!!

Love by Design (The Meraki Series Book 2) by Effie Kammenou – Review by Mrs R

Love by Design (The Meraki series, #2)Love by Design by Effie Kammenou
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is book 2 in the series but is standalone. I haven’t read book 1 and didn’t feel like I was missing out on any of the story.
Mia has just got her dream promotion at a brand new magazine, working directly with company boss, Nicholas. However, they just seem to rub each other the wrong way and just can’t get on without bickering. Both do have an attraction to each other.
This book isn’t just about Mia and Nicholas though, many other characters are woven into the story, but it’s done so well that you can keep track of who everyone is and the part they play. The extended family certainly brought some humour into the book. Delving into the history of Mia’s grandma was interesting and also heartbreaking.
As Mia and Nicholas try to work together, they find that they have many things in common, and would be perfect for each other if they could just get past their issues. Both had been hurt in the past and were reluctant to try again. It was refreshing to see that it’s not just women who have relationship hang-ups, men do too. It was extremely frustrating to see Mia, a grown woman, constantly abandon situations rather than actually talk to people, it certainly made for a lot of arguments that could have been resolved quickly had she just stayed and talked.
Overall, an interesting story.

Our Wicked LiesOur Wicked Lies by Glede Browne Kabongo

Our Wicked Lies is a suspenseful psychological thriller with lots of mystery, drama and edge. This was my first time reading the work of Glede Browne Kabongo, and I was pleasantly surprised. This story was engaging and pulled me in straight away. Full of danger, betrayal, lies and deceit, it was suspense on a knife’s edge. The story flowed and was very energetic. There was so many secrets, I was so addicted to finding out exactly how it all came together. This thriller was exceptionally well written and well thought out. It was evident that this was high quality literature. With meticulous detail, Our Wicked Lies is a captivating story that deserves all the accolades. 4 stars.

Luminoso (The Luminara Series, Book 4) by SJ Molloy – Review by Kerry Carr

Luminoso (Luminara, #4)Luminoso by S.J. Molloy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book 4 in the Luminara series and wow what a book. It carries on the story of Lexi and Lucca beautifully. Their story is definately a difficult one to read but at the same time it’s awe inspiring how they have overcome so much to be where they are. The author does an amazing job with such delicate subjects. Always approaching them and writing them with respect and a lot of compassion. You really feel every emotion of the characters which gives you a great connection with this series.

Lucca and Lexi have escaped to Tuscany after the horror that happened at their home. With Michael Parks on the loose and tormenting Lexi, Lucca wants her as far away from there as possible. Lucca is a protector and will stop at nothing to protect Lexi.

Meanwhile Lexi and her mum are still struggling with emotions and feelings from their past and with Michael Parks free this only intensify their fears.

Will Michael find them? Will Lucca be able to protect all that he loves? Will Lexi be defeated by all her demons or will she now feel its time to fight back? And if she does fight back what will the consequences be?

Eye of the Storm (A Gray Ghost Novel, book 2) AUDIO BOOK by Amy McKinley – Review by Jenique Bornman

Eye of the Storm (Gray Ghost #2)Eye of the Storm by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Love has this way of finding us in the most unexpected places and in the strangest times.
Eye of the Storm is an excellent example of this.
Amy McKinley blew me away yet again with her amazing talent at world building and storytelling. Who would have thought that a soldier with amnesia and a woman on the run could have so much chemistry.
Some of the parts in the book were a bit out of the realm of possibility BUT that’s why it’s fiction, and it doesn’t take away from the story. It works
This is the second book of the series but can be read completely as a standalone.
Regan Brown is an excellent narrator and this book proves it yet again.
Excellent, action packed listen.

Romance author Brooke May spends her days writing whatever her overactive imagination has brewed up and her evenings reading while she works alongside her mom. Telling stories is second natural to her, from a young age she has told anyone who would listen what she had thought up. Now, a mom of two, she splits her time writing, playing with her kids, and of course, hiking, hunting, fishing, and four-wheeling in her beloved Bighorn Mountains.

While on maternity leave with her youngest, Brooke was putting laundry away when she looked at a poem she had written in high school that was framed in her son’s bedroom. That poem triggered the idea of My Cowboy and soon she was sitting in front of her computer with her infant next to her writing her first love story that wasn’t a fanfiction.

Blue Summer Part One by Everly Taylor – Review by Carly Vogler

Blue Summer Part OneBlue Summer Part One by Everly Taylor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Blue Summer by Everly Taylor is part one of what I can only hope to be a long series! Sometimes we are told our whole lives to fear a type of people, and we just follow along because that is all we know.

Lillie was always told the Zayed were to be feared. After a horrific incident, the Zayed were the ones who helped her. Now in more trouble, they must all work together to save Lillie and the Zayed community.

This story had me laughing just by the first few paragraphs. A must read!

I enjoy period romance/fiction and was interested in the book after reading the summary. This author is new to me and I was looking forward to seeing what the beautiful cover might hold. I found the book to be an easy and quick read and filled with just the right amount of conflict, period decorum, and romance. I enjoyed the tale as it unfolded and look forward to reading more from this author.

5/5 Stars

Love is What You Bake of It (The Meraki Series #1) by Effie Kammenou

This is the first book I’ve read by Kammenou. It won’t be my last as this book is amazing. Love is What You Bake of It got me hooked from the first chapter.

Kally is trying to get out of the funk she’s put herself in. The past relationship she was in didn’t end very well. When she calls the cops to come pick up a license plate her life changes. The main cop catches her attention. The quote I chose for Kally is: “He’s married. All men suck! Seriously. I saw her at the café. She’s gorgeous, of course. What would possess any man to stray when he has such a perfect family?”

Max is finally back in his hometown after his life went to hell. His daughter had the most trauma out of all this. When he met Kally things changed. He didn’t know if he could put himself out there. The quote I chose for Max is: “No, of course not. Men are never on the lookout for beautiful, successful and interesting women like yourself. I’m surprised you’re not already married with a couple of kids. I watched you at the party. You were a natural with those children and Athena hasn’t stopped talking about you.”

Highly recommended for Contemporary Romance lovers.

Jake the Growling Dog Goes to Doggy Daycare: A Children’s Book about New Experiences, Friendship, Stress Relief, and Kindness (Jake the Growling Dog Book 2) by Samantha Shannon – Review by Charlene Yates

Jake the Growling Dog Goes to Doggy DaycareJake the Growling Dog Goes to Doggy Daycare by Samantha Shannon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

In” Jake the Growling Dog goes to Doggy Daycare by Samantha Shannon” Shannon uses wonderful colors to grab the children’s attention right off. This is a great thing as it is made to be educational and is geared towards children. Specifically, this book is geared to show through the illustration of an animal going to daycare and the feelings of fear and anxiety that Jake faces. Children can relate to this as they go to daycare or to school and have their own set of fears as they set out on their independence. Jake shows children that instead of running from their feelings and hiding them away, that it is actually normal to have them, and they can discuss them with someone if they would like. Not only does Shannon keep they children engage through the story with the pictures, colors and storyline, she has activities as well which was a wonderful idea to put work into the book. I read this book to my children over and over, and they continually love it and now my 6-year-old son reads it to my 5 year old daughter. As a parent who has children with PTSD/ASD/ADHD/Severe GAD I am thankful that Shannon’s book is helping them.

Safe Harbor: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 5 AUDIO BOOK by Valerie Davisson – Review by Sunday Barnaby

Safe Harbor by Valerie Davisson

Narrated by Mary Ann Jacobs

Four Stars

Safe Harbor: A Logan McKenna Mystery is the fifth book in the Logan McKenna series by Valerie Davisson. This book can be read as a standalone, but I recommend you read the series in order. All of the books feature Logan McKenna, a smart, determined, and independent woman. The characters have grown as this series progresses. I was amazed by the descriptions of the Oregon Coast, it makes me want to visit.

Now let me tell you, this is a wonderful murder mystery. It had me up reading half the night just to see how it would end. I was surprised about the twists and turns, and it kept me guessing until the end. I highly recommend this book, series and author.

The narration of this book was wonderful. This is the first book I have listened to by Mary Ann Jacobs. She brought the characters to life and I felt a great connection.

Myths & Legends: An Indie Love Anthology – Review by Anantha Rusum

Myths & LegendsMyths & Legends by Laura Greenwood
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Myths & Legends: An Indie Love Anthology is seven stories by seven new authors which are based on myths and legends from different mythologies but with a romantic theme. The old characters are picked and new twists are given to their tales, some of them made steamier, some forbidden and challenging. Some romances I did enjoy and to be truthful, sometimes I felt that the original tale was better.
It has stories based on Egyptian creation myth, Hades and Persephone, Arthurian legends, Robin Hood and love stories revolving around Greek myths. Some stories I found too short, should have been a little longer and others were just apt. I loved the Dragon’s heart the best. I love mythology and legends from different parts of the world. I love Egyptian, Greek and Roman mythologies. I also love Dragons, shapeshifters, the legends of King Arthur and stories about Robin Hood. This book brought back good memories of some of the characters I cherish. Overall, I really loved the stories.

Our Wicked Lies by Gledé Browne Kabongo. I LOVED this book. It’s one of the best books I’ve read this year. Its the story of Alicia Gray who knows she is living the storybook life with her Attorney husband and living in her affluent neighborhood. Eliot is a arrogant, stuck up, entitled man who thinks everyone should bow down to him. Alicia feels like there has to be more to him than what’s on the surface so when she starts snooping she finds a weird folder on his computer with hidden messages to a woman named Faith she is determined to get to the bottom of it. What Alicia finds is way more dark and demented than she ever believed. When someone is killed the mystery gets even deeper. Could this man that seems like the dream man that takes her on romantic trips and buys her all the gifts she wants be capable of these dark things? This book makes you realize that even people you think you know the best you sometimes don’t know at all. Read Our Wicked Lies to find out if Alicia survives the mystery.

The Luminara Series: Box Set – Volume 1 (Lussuria – L’amore – Lucca’s Lust) by SJ Molloy – Review by Ashley Dover

The Luminara Series: Box Set Volume 1: Lussuria - L'amore -Lucca's LustThe Luminara Series: Box Set Volume 1: Lussuria – L’amore -Lucca’s Lust by S.J. Molloy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Definitely for readers 18+

Lussuria
Lexi Robertson believes she has it all. She has a new practice as a physiotherapist, a loving brother, a protective, if not overly hyperactive dog, Doris, a wonderful group of friends, and of course, her best friend, Hazel. Where Hazel is outspoken and fun-loving, Lexi is reserved and distant. Their opposite natures bring them together and have since their first day at university.

Hazel and Lexi are off on a vacation in Tuscany, Italy. They want to learn to cook Italian cuisine and bask in the lovely Tuscan countryside. Lexi loves the villa, and their hosts, Sophia and Franco. Little does she know that her life is about to change. Lexi finds herself in the same villa as her mystery patient from before she left. She’s terrified that he stalked her there. Finding out that this is his grandparents’ villa, Lexi learns to trust Lucca Caruso.

Follow Lexi’s story fighting off the darkness of abuse and insecurity, to finding light in love and lust.

L’Amore
Lexi and Lucca have discovered that they are each other’s present and future. The second book in the Luminara series focuses on how that love grows.

Suddenly their love is challenged when a ghost from her past begins searching for her. Life drastically changes for her and Lucca as well as anyone with whom they are closely acquainted. Can their love prevail? Or will darkness consume Lexi again?

Lucca’s Lust
The third book of the Luminara series focuses on Lucca’s past. SJ Malloy does an outstanding job of describing how Lucca deals with life and tragedy. From his past to his present, the story of Lucca is an outstanding story of how a man deals with life, love, and tragedy.

This is a true story about overcoming your past to find love and light. I was captured by the stories of the characters from the moment I begin Lussuria. This is a true love story.

This is my second book by Sonya Jesus and my first book by Cam Johns. Sons of Sindicato has romance, murder, suspense, and so much more. For only 108 pages, it packs one heck of a punch. Braelynn is a strong female character, wish sass, that holds her own against it seems just about anybody. Seth is the kind of man you want by your side, strong, masculine, and a protector. These two can be an absolute powerhouse and I can’t wait to see what they do next. The secondary characters, bring a family feel, and as an Italian woman myself I was riveted by the pages. If you like romantic suspense, with some mayhem and murder, you will love this book.

Date Night by KM Lowe – Review by Colleen Noyes

Date NightDate Night by K.M. Lowe
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was my first book by K.M. Lowe, it was a very sweet and charming book. I loved the quick quips of Hannah and the comebacks from Kyle. I really enjoyed the secondary characters and thought that they brought a lot of the light hearted play to the story. I fully plan on reading more from this author.

Bovine Tricks (Royals Gone Rogue Book 1) by Seelie Kay – Review by Erica Shoebridge

Bovine TricksBovine Tricks by Seelie Kay
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Bovine Tricks follows the story of two MISix agents tasked with discovering the whereabouts of a missing royal, who has been sucked into the seedy world of Hucows. These women are trained to act like cows, are traded and bred, milked and impregnated, and surgically altered to seem more like their bovine counterparts. The two agents go undercover to determine if their royal charge is engaging in the submissive behaviour willingly, or if she has been sold into the trade, and drugged or otherwise psychologically damaged to accept this behaviour. The writing is intense and very descriptive; I was able to picture the auction scene in vivid detail. Sights sounds and smells were all written compellingly.

While I can appreciate the unique storyline, this theme wasn’t for me. Perhaps one of her other novels would be something I enjoy more, as she seems to be a prolific authour with a diverse set of works. If you are interested in crime, espionage, sexual trafficking rings, and don’t mind fuzzy lines in sub/dom romances, you might just enjoy this quick read.
