Bishop’s Gambit (Redclaw Origins #2) by McKenna Dean

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. It won’t be my last and I love it. Dean knows how to keep you interested from beginning to end.

Rhett Bishop is trying to make things right with Redclaw. She has to pretty much jump through hoops to do so. The quote I chose for Rhett is: “You want me to work with Knight on this mission. Undercover in Forest Grove.”

Peter Knight is a genius. When he is told he has to go on a case. He’s not an agent like Bishop but it doesn’t stop him. The quote I chose for Peter is: “Have to be certain nothing we put out there is dangerous to the rest of the population. Can’t put anything on the market too advanced, or someone will start looking into how Redclaw is making these extraordinary gains in manufacturing. I don’t see that slowing down our old pal Stirling, though.”

Highly recommended for paranormal romance lovers.

Four Stars

Bishop’s Gambit is the second book in the Redclaw Origins Series by McKenna Dean. This is the first book I have read by Ms. Dean, and I had no problem following the story line. However, this book intrigued me enough to want to go back and read the first book. The story flowed smoothly from beginning to end.
Rhett and Knight are great characters. The dialogue is witty and fun. It was an overall feel good read, that I truly enjoyed. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more stories from Ms. Dean.

Everything about this read was enjoyable from the scenic setting to the relatable characters. I love books like this especially the suspense of detective works. Both characters are lovable with their chemistry between the two. Full of adventure, suspense and mystery was worth the read alone. I think you’ll enjoy everything this book has to offer from the action, dialogue, and the world the atmosphere the setting is. This is so entertaining!

I loved this book! It’s written well enough to stand alone (which I’m thankful for as I grabbed it without reading book one). Suffice it to say, I loved this edition and will quickly run to read what I missed in the first installment in the series. Regardless, this fun and flirty caper had just the right amount of sass, intrigue, and fantasy thrown in to keep in interesting and moving briskly. Loved every page and can’t wait to read more from this author.

I was not honestly sure what to expect when I picked up Bishop’s Gambit as it was the second book in the series Redclaw Origins from McKenna Dean, but I knew I needed to read it the moment I saw the cover. It really drew me in and I had to know what adventure awaited the characters on gracing the cover. This book was quite the adventure and I was not disappointed. I do wish I just started with book one because I enjoyed it and would have had that backstory for the romance part of this novel. That may have made this even better so I will be doing a re-read once I read book one.

In Bishop’s Gambit we find the main characters, Peter Knight and Rhett Bishop, as they face a new assignment together professionally and also during the early stages of their relationship together. These two had me cracking up at times and on the edge of my seat at others. I loved the detective parts as much as the action and paranormal undertones as well. I am super excited to dive into this series more in the very near future!

This is my first read by McKenna Dean, not knowing what to expect I went in open-minded and I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed it. This book is full of action, adventure, mystery and suspense and I was hooked from the get-go! This was a mentally visual read, and with the author’s brilliant descriptions it makes it that much easier to connect to the storyline and the characters she has created. Being part of a series I thought I would need book 1 to really get an understanding of it, but it flowed effortlessly on its own. I highly recommend you pick up this read.

This book has so much going on in it, in a good way- from espionage, an undercover investigation, history, romance, paranormal elements, suspense, action, danger, and some unexpected developments-which all made for quite an intriguing read.

Another fantastic read from this author! Although I haven’t read book 1 in this series I thoroughly enjoyed the story. The characters were so much fun to read about – I loved them! The author dragged me into the story from the get go and my interest was held throughout. Her descriptive detail and creative writing style make for an excellent read – it’s a story where characters and their story come to life. Whilst I’m not a huge shapeshifter fan I’ve really enjoyed the stories by this author and I am definitely looking forward to reading more in the future.
Overall a fantastic read and one that I wholeheartedly recommend.

This one is a struggle. The writing just seemed to not flow very well. The characters are interesting and there is nice banter between the two MC. I really liked the gun and the dog. Both are very cool! I did at times feel like I was missing something as they repeatedly mentioned other incidents that happened when they had worked together. Maybe if I had read the first one it would fall into place better. This is the second in the series but is a standalone.

The Bishops Gambit (Redclaw Origins Book 2) is a fantasy romance set in post WW2 America. Rhett, an agent for Redclaw, is tasked with partnering up with her colleague Peter Knight to discover what has been causing the weird goings on in rural suburbia. Having not read the first book, I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to easily follow the story and connect with the characters, my favourite being Captain the dog/dinosaur. The story is a mystery with a coinciding romance, but I feel like I need to read more as I desperately want to know what happens next. I would recommend to fans of both the paranormal and mystery genres.

Bishop’s Gambit (Redclaw Origins Book 2) by McKenna Dean is a paranormal romance story. It is a fun and witty tale that is set in the 50’s and is not all that it seems. An agent, her partner, a dog that causes chaos and is not just a dog and a house in the burbs are just some of the things we encounter on this paranormal journey. I loved the banter between the characters which made it all the more interesting. McKenna throws in a curve ball towards the end which leaves the story not wrapped up in a bow. It is an engaging read and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next instalment. If you love paranormal you will like this one.

This is the second book in this series. I enjoyed this book as much as the first one. This story is full of action and paranormal characters. One of the things I enjoy most about this author is her ability to pull me in right from the beginning. Her attention to details made me feel as if I was right there with the characters. I had no problems connecting with the characters. They kept the story engaging and turning pages. This is a story about Rhett and Peter. They find themselves in a case together. They also find themselves putting their relationship on hold as they go on a case in the suburbs. The story takes on a mystery and suspense aspect from here and is hard to put down. I won’t say much more about this book as I highly recommend picking it up. This is a great story that has strong characters that you don’t want to miss.

By McKenna Dean
5 out of 5 stars

I loved reading the book Bishop’s Gambit (Redclaw Origins Book 2) by McKenna Dean. It is a story that includes mystery and danger. It is a book that had me hooked from the very beginning. I loved the characters of Rhett Bishop and Peter Knight. Rhett is a woman who is intelligent and independent. She is not the type you would think of posing as a housewife. However, that is what her current assignment is. I love that Rhett is someone that takes action when she needs to and can defend herself when need be. I also love her little dog. Peter is a man who at times gets caught up in his work. He does have feelings and an attraction to Rhett. What will Rhett and Peter find in the suburbs? What does the future hold for them? Read this book to find out. This story had me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. There are twists to the story that I didn’t see coming. The author does an amazing job of making both the story and the characters come alive. I found myself caring about Rhett and Peter with each chapter that I read. Don’t miss out on an exciting and entertaining story that I was not able to put down until the final page. I highly recommend reading this book.

But after the debacle of her previous mission, Rhett has a lot to prove.

To redeem herself in the eyes of Redclaw Security, and to carry out her mission without distractions, she must table her budding relationship with Peter Knight while the two of them uncover the secrets of Forest Grove.

Armed with her trusty ray gun, her unique little dog, and Knight’s brains, Rhett is confident she can handle whatever the suburbs can throw at her.

Until they lob a curveball.

Sarah inherits her grandmothers farm after her passing but has certain stipulations to follow for six weeks otherwise it all goes to Casey. Casey shocked at this plans to help her figure out the routine and leave her to it knowing she will most likely sale it after six weeks is up. What the two didn’t forsee is getting snowed in together there. As the two come to terms with each other trouble begins on the farm and in Sarah’s life. It seems to bring them together but they also have huge secrets.

I loved this shifter romance and could not stop reading it. I could easily relate to Sarah’s character and her love of horses. She goes through a lot in this novel that changes everything for her. She was a very strong female character. I definitely feel that this book deserves 5 stars.

Ghost of a Chance (Redclaw Security Book 2) by McKenna Dean paranormal shifter romance story. I am a sucker for shifter stories and McKenna did the genre proud. Betrayal, mystery, action, fear and love are just a few of the aspects that make up this story. Our Hero is down to earth and struggling with a loss of a part of himself. Our Heroine is trying to ignore a part of herself thanks to years of being put under the hammered by her loved ones. I loved watching the characters grow and come together in the face an unknown enemy and unexpected danger.

This is the second book in the Redclaw Security series from McKenna Dean, and my very first read from her. I didn’t have any issue reading this as a standalone other than I am sad that I hadn’t had the experience of reading the first book yet! I will be remedying the situation as soon as possible! I may just be one-clicking all that is available from Dean as well! Before I jump too much into the book, can I just say how delicious this cover is? I don’t know if it is the eyes or arms, or everything…. I don’t know I just love it. It drew me in and had me barely able to let go even after the last words.

In Ghost of a Chance we get a lot in a little package. Everything from the super-natural, suspense, secrets, betrayal, romance, and more! All of it is done meticulously and the flow makes things easy to follow, I was never confused as to what was going on.

When a brutal winter storm hits Sarah’s farm she is forced to work with Casey for a change to care for the horses. Despite the cold outside the heat between the two is building to a sultry fire. Will the secrets that each of them are holding inside ruin any chance they have at a romance together? Maybe the secrets hold more answers than they will ever know? I fell in love with these two! I can’t wait to see what will come in book three!

Ghost of A Chance (Redclaw Security Series Book #2) by McKenna Dean – Review by Angela Hayes

5 Stars

“Sometimes I think I’m still stuck in the events of that summer.”

Ghost of a Chance is the second book in the Redclaw Security Series by McKenna Dean. Why have I not heard of this author, or this amazing series before now? Something this good should be on every paranormal/shifter romance reader’s ‘must read’ list. I think that even people who don’t normally choose paranormal stories, would like what they find between the covers of this book. I am so glad that I stumbled across this book, because I loved everything about it and Ms. Dean is now on my “Must Read’ author list! I look forward to many more reading adventures with her books in the future!

This is the second book in the series and even though it can be read as a standalone without feeling like you are missing parts of the story- it captivated me in such a way that I feel compelled to go back and read the first book as well- because I want to know everything about Redclaw, the wonderful characters, and the amazing stories.

This book has so much going on in it, in a good way- from shifters, secrets, betrayal, hidden agendas, suspense, action, romance, learning to accept yourself, new beginnings, learning to stand up for yourself, danger, fated mates, finding and embracing your true self, finding where you truly belong, excitement, strength, dramatic developments, emotion, twists, and a sizzling romance.

The story is really fascinating, Ms. Dean writes so incredibly well- she has a real gift for telling a mesmerising story! Her detailed descriptions produced such vivid images that I was transported into the story where I was able to ‘see’ it all so clearly play out in front of me. I was part of it all, with a ringside seat to the production.

The characters are fully realised individuals, brilliantly created to have their own unique traits- they are so believable, and quite endearing….or detestable, as in the case of a few that we meet through the story. I loved how much Sarah grew and developed over the course of the story- I was cheering her on! Casey was just wonderful, perfect really.

Bring on the next book!

Thank you, Ms. Dean!
