Hood of Sedna (Stevie Capot Chronicles) by Mina Skye – Review by Lucinda Morton-Phillips

Hood of Sedna (Stevie Capot Chronicles Book 1)Hood of Sedna by Mina Skye
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I thought the premise of this book was intriguing, with paranormal elements, shapeshifters, fae, magic, romance, and action.
Stevie Capot awakens in 1745, North Carolina with no idea who she is or with no memory of her past. She is taken in by a widower and his son, but has to leave after 10 years when she shows no sign of aging and questions are starting to be asked. This sets off 150 years of moving from place to place, before settling in Sedna, Washington, where she becomes the leader in a community of the poorest residents and tries to look after them any way she can. This leads to a run-in with the local marshall and she encounters 3 other men with links to her past.
These men are shapeshifters and warlocks and each encounter offers a tantalising glimpse and dreams of who she might have been in the past, though they each have their own agenda.
The story is told from multiple viewpoints which sometimes makes the story choppy and interrupts the flow. Several times I had to go back to see who was talking, and there was a lot of telling, not showing. I found the dialogue to be inconsistent, especially the ‘Scottish brogue’ that Stevie is supposed to have.
The ending is an interesting cliffhanger and I am interested enough to discover what happens in the next book.

What a fun multi pov fantasy. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and can not wait to read more. The FMC is reincarnation of a princess, but remembers nothing from her former life. Between Stevie, Sebastian, and Gabriel there is drama, but also love.

I was not sure about this book when I started it. This book is told from 4 different points of view, which sometimes throws me off a bit. However, this was a world building experience that I’ve never experienced before. This take on the world of fantasy was pretty interesting, giving it a human point of view. It keeps the mystery alive of what could happen next. This book is the perfect lead up to the second story and has certainly peaked my interest in the series! I need to know what happens next and how Stevie handles the men that have just showed up into her life. I would recommend this to anyone who is new to reading fantasy and is looking for a good story.

This was an incredible book, at first, I wasn’t sure but then this book really got a hold of me, and I couldn’t put it done once I stated. It is mostly a paranormal story with an interesting twist with some steampunk, urban fantasy, Fae, history, mystery, suspense, adventure, and so much more that this book will have you gripped from the beginning. Stevie is one amazing role and she ahs the character with some grit and spit if you cross her the wrong way, and it really made me enjoy reading this book even more. She was very relatable, she lived with the people and society and her story was weaved into the story that it really made me feel like I know them and lived with them. This book was very enjoyable, and I can’t wait to dive into the next one.

This book captivated me from the very first chapter which tells me to hunker down because I’m going to devour the entire thing in one sitting. It typically takes me awhile to find my groove but not this time. This is the first book in the Stevie Capot Chronicles, and the author has started out like a strike of lightning! I love that this story is told from multiple points of view as it makes me feel like I’m getting each character’s unique perspective. This is categorized as a Steampunk/Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and I must say that it somehow fits that to a T. The characters are incredibly well developed, and you can feel how much work has gone into building this amazing world. The flow of the story is one of my favorites though because some books tend to feel like chunks of a story instead of a continuous tale when multiple POV is involved. This author knew exactly how to make it flow from one person to another with such ease. I highly recommend picking this up if you are looking for an adventurous paranormal read for your weekend!

This book was definitely interesting; but it wasn’t really my favorite type of fantasy. The FMC is a quick-witted total bad***, who doesn’t take crap from anyone. The MMCs in the book were funny and fun to read about, with a plot full of fae, shifters, and just all around magical things. If you like quirky fantasies that are a little more lighthearted, then this would be the one for you!

At first glance, I thought this story would be some kind of fantasy with a good storyline mix. Although I am familiar with the Steampunk look, I’ve never read a story like this and I’m so glad I gave it a try. Story focuses on Stevie Capot, who does not recall any past memories before finding herself in 1745 in North Carolina. As time passes and she learns more about herself, she transitions from one place to another as she never grows old and must move onto other places and get to know new people. After a century of moving to and fro, random pieces of her memory start trickling back to her. Unfortunately with the distractions of the current town arise, things start piecing together and she is on a mission for the truth! Character POV changes within the characters involved in the storyline, which I’ve always enjoyed reading as it places the readers in the character’s footsteps. Character development in this story is truly amazing and it strings back to the past, present and where the future may lie. I highly recommend this book!

Hood of Sedna (Stevie Capot Chronicles Book 1)Hood of Sedna by Mina Skye
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Hood of Sedna is the first book to the Stevie Capot Chronicles series, written by author Mina Skye. This twisty, turn-y story features a multitude of fantasy and paranormal aspects. Fae, witches, magic, and so much more to appeal to many lovers of the fantasy genre. Stevie is a reincarnated version of herself; however, she does not know who she is or where she came from, except she emerged from a tree. Taken in by a Scottish family, she was given the name Stevie and learned to once again speak and learn ways of living. However, it became blatantly clear she did not age and took on a nomadic lifestyle, leaving behind the family who took her in. As the story progresses, she encounters three men who may be connected to her true story. There were a couple parts that had me scratching my head but overall, nothing that would keep me from wanting to read a sequel! It’s unique, with lots of character development and parts that will make you chuckle too. Highly recommend for lovers of paranormal fantasy who want a truly unique story to dive into!

Hood of Sedna (Stevie Capot Chronicles Book 1)Hood of Sedna by Mina Skye
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hood of Sedna is Book One in the Stevie Capot Chronicles. It is a fae steampunk book full of mystery, action, danger, suspense, love, loss, betrayal, secrets, hope, romance, paranormal elements, shifters, magic, and reincarnation. The story centers around the MC Stevie Capot who is the reincarnation of half witch, half fae, Princess Stephanie Corin. When she was murdered by her fiancé, her uncle turned her body into seeds that turned into a maple tree. When she wakes up a century later and emerges from the tree, she does not know who she is and starts a new life as Stevie Capot. Stevie has not had an easy life and chooses to not remain in one place for too long for fear others will notice that she does not seem to age. She ends up in Sedna, Washington where the secrets and people of her mysterious past start to resurface. A great book with an interesting concept that sucked me in from the first pages. I love the idea of reincarnation and was immediately drawn to the character of Stevie because she is smart, strong, feisty, and tough as nails. I found myself rooting for her to unravel her past and get the happily ever after she deserved. Looking forward to the next book in this amazing series!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first book in the Stevie Capot Chronicles. This is also the first book I have read by this author and I found it really enjoyable. There are loads of characters but the authors writing makes it easy to understand who is who and their connection. This is a story full of twists and turns that I wasn’t able to stop reading. It is a story that is paranormal with fae and an interesting take on reincarnation

Stephanie Corin was murdered a decade ago but she finds herself reborn into a different time and place than where she lost her life. Add to this this fact that she has no memory of who she was or what happened to her before.
Finding herself in strange surroundings she does the only thing she can to survive but there is some memories trapped inside her than she is trying to uncover.
With danger all around her and enemies she may not even remember when she is approached by 3 men she doesn’t know if they can be trusted. Are they here to help her or cause her harm? What happens if she regains her memories? And will she be in more danger if she does?

This was a really unique and interesting read and I can’t wait to continue with the series.

Hood of Sedna (Stevie Capot Chronicles Book 1)Hood of Sedna by Mina Skye
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mina Skye’s “Hood of Sedna” was an amazing first book in a new steampunk series. This was the first steampunk book I’d ever read and am hooked and cannot wait for more books in this series to come out. The characters are so dynamically developed, I love the different breeds of characters including Faes, Warlocks, Witches, and humans all intermingling unknowingly. Stevie is our main character, who appears not knowing who or what she is, her past is all but blank, and she has no idea that she has lived such an enthralling life and that she is not a human but a mixed breed. She is the leader of a group of thieves who are doing all they can to survive by stealing from the rich in Sedna. It is always things that are not wanted like food, and other belongings that they are throwing away unnecessarily while others are starving and going without. Unfortunately, these actions have caught the attention of the local marshal who does not realize that Stevie is not a man, but the same woman that keeps turning down his unwanted advances. Out of the blue three mysterious men appear in Stevie’s life claiming that she is someone from their past, but how is this possible, she doesn’t remember being a princess from 300+ years ago, if that is even possible. Do these men hold the answers to Stevie’s past, and if so which if any of them, are there to help her, and which are only working for their selfish reasons? You will not want to put this book down once you get started, it is fast-paced and takes you on an adventure like no other.

Stevie Capot has awaken after many, many years. She is taken in by a widower and his son for the next 10 years, but leaves when people start to question why she hasn’t aged at all. It’s better to move on than try to explain something that you don’t have an answer to. Gabriel and his cousin Sebastian have been traveling all over not staying in one place too long. One night Gabriel catches a glimpse of Stevie and he cannot believe how similar she looks to the long gone fae princess, Stephanie. Upon this discovery he immediately returns to his king and is then ordered to find out Stevies true identity. Sebastian was madly in love with Stephanie all those years ago, surly he would know if she is the long lost princess. These cousins, however, are not the only ones looking for Stevie. There is also a bounty hunter seeking her and he has found her location. Will he get to her before all of her memories come back? I enjoyed this story and all the twists and turns. I am very much looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

This is the first time I have read a book by Mina Skye. I really had a hard time with getting into the story to be honest, which is why it took me a week to read. It’s the first of the  Stevie Capot Chronicles. It’s about a women who lost any possessions and her memory once she woke up in North Carolina. She created a version of herself by naming herself Stevie Capot. She keeps moving around because she doesn’t want to “humans” to know that she can’t age. She winds up in Sedna, Washington where three mysterious men claim to know her as Princess Stephanie Corin. Can there arrival really help her find out who and what she is? You need to read the book yourself to find this out.

This paranormal has a bit of everything for you- witches, shifters, fae, and more. The main character Stevie, reborn from a tree, with no memories figures out she must move around because she is not aging. She cares for herself by thieving. She eventually meets 3 strangers who could hold the answers to her past. But is that a good thing, or will it get her killed a second time? This book was a quick, well written, pager turner read. I died hundreds of years ago, though the strange thing was, I had no idea how or who killed me and I wasn’t going to waste my time researching my demise. The evening I was reborn, it was pouring rain mixed with sleet that felt like itty bitty daggers stabbing my naked skin. It was painful and I was freezing, which only heightened the amount of pain the inclement weather caused. I had to get out of the cold and found shelter in a barn kilometers from where I emerged from the tree. Rampant emotions consumed me from frightened to confused to angry back to confusion. I had no idea how I got in that blasted tree and had no idea who or where I was. I was thankful that it was the middle of the night and no one was privy to my lack of dignity. Though, on the other hand, it would have been nice to have run into someone who could have offered me a coat or hot fire, anything to warm me up. To note, the tree is pretty busted, but one can use the excuse that it was the lightning that split it in all directions. But that’s not important, what’s important is I was startled awake the next morning to some kid screaming then hollering for his ‘Da’ – which gave me credence that this was a Scottish family and that I was in Scotland. The Scottish family was right, but the location wasn’t. In fact, I was in the Province of North Carolina and it was 1765. I’ve no idea how I got here or where I came from. I didn’t even know my name or had any memory. I was reborn, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, though the pile of ashes was a tree.

Hood of Sedna is the first book in the Stevie Capot Chronicles by Mina Sky. It is a paranormal story- with a steampunk/dystopian feel, urban fantasy, Fae, history, mystery, adventure, suspense, intrigue, dramatic developments, romance, secrets, discovery/revelations, humour, and emotion. The story ends leaving things to continue in Book #2, ‘Coveted Hood’.
As expected from Ms. Skye, the story is well-woven, with an original take/lore that made for a captivating read- all wrapped into some fantastic world-building that really brought the whole story to life.
Looking forward to continuing the chronicles!
Happy Reading

Thank you, Mina Skye!

Hood of Sedna (Stevie Capot Chronicles Book 1)Hood of Sedna by Mina Skye
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is a multi POV story between Stevie, the cousins Sebastian and Gabriel, Shaw, and Jamison (only short POV for him) Some chapters have multi POV but are clearly labeled whose POV it is.)

Hood of Sedna by Mina Skye is the first book from this author that I have read. It has magic, shifters, fae, and more…. All the fun fantasy stuff one could ask for rolled up into one book. On top of the fantasy, there is also love, drama, and betrayal.

Stevie is a reincarnation of a beloved princess named Stephanie who was murdered. When she was reborn she didn’t remember anything at all from her past, not even her name, and moved around a lot due to the fact she never aged. The first family that brought her in when she was reborn is who gives her a name and also teaches her how to steal.

Sebastian and Gabriel both love Stephanie. Sebastian’s love for her was so strong that after she died he had his memory of her erased, this has caused some trouble for the two cousins since and many deaths.

Rowan Shaw is a bounty hunter who was tasked by the prince to find Stevie and keep her safe, but he is not who people think he is.

Jamison- a marshall who wants Stevie behind bars for theft.

There are a lot of twists throughout and it ends in a cliffhanger. Some parts of this story left me a bit confused and there were a bit too many POVs in some chapters but was an easy, quick, read.

~This is not my typical type of book I read so while I give it 3 stars others may enjoy it more and give it 5~

This fae mystery had a great storyline with many plot twists. Stevie Capot, an immortal version of Robin Hood, finds herself in a debacle. Three strange, magical men suddenly find interest in her, calling her the long lost Princess Stephanie Corin. She is very confused by these encounters and she is unsure who she can trust anymore. As the reader, you do not know who to trust either. The reason I rated this three stars is because it is hard to follow along with, as you hear the point of view of too many characters in the story.

This is an interesting and definitely unique historical fiction tale with fae/paranormal steampunk elements.
This is the first book that I have read by this author, but it may just be one of my favourites that I have read this year. Hood of Sedna is the first book in the Stevie Capot Chronicles.
There are a lot of characters, but Mina has done well infusing them with life and quirky characteristics. I enjoyed the banter between them which had me laughing at times.
This captivating twisty tale had me hooked from the start and at times emotions were high.
Imagine waking and not knowing who you are, where you are and how you got there. Having to resort to doing anything to survive. Well, this is what Stevie Capot has to deal with, but she doesn’t let things keep her down she is a strong and capable woman, a badarse struggling to piece together who she is whilst keeping abreast of the danger around her. Enter three men but are they here to help or endanger her.

In 1745, I awoke in the wilds of North Carolina, devoid of any possessions and my memories lost in the void. Stripped of my identity and left to fend for myself, I resorted to thievery to survive, carving out a notorious reputation as the cunning and elusive Stevie Capot.
A century later, destiny led me to Sedna, Washington, where tantalizing fragments of my forgotten past began to resurface, like shards of broken glass reflecting a life I had left behind. But my quest for truth was overshadowed by the relentless pursuit of the town’s unyielding marshal and his relentless posse of lawmen. To my dismay, my already tumultuous existence was further complicated by the arrival of three mysterious strangers, each claiming to hold the key to unlocking the secrets sealed within my mind.
As I grappled with the enigma of my lost memories, I couldn’t shake the feeling that Sedna held the answers, or perhaps the three enigmatic men who had emerged in sync with the resurgence of my past. Their arrival only served to heighten the relentless pricking of my skin, a constant reminder that I was on the precipice of decoding the secrets veiled in the fog of time. Amidst the chaos and danger that threatened to consume me, I was determined to unearth the truth, no matter the cost.
