As an avid reader I found this children’s book refreshing and awesome. So many times are the most common used words are used on a daily basis that the younger generation don’t have a clue about the meaning of some words. Used to in school there was a class called vocabulary where you had to learn new words. While my littles didn’t understand all the words I did enjoy explaining new things to them. I just love that the meanings to the words are included in this. The illustrations are beautiful.

First, I want to say that these are beautifully done illustrations. I would like to put them all up as pictures in my house. The alphabet chosen for this book seems a wee bit large for young ones but, hey, it’s all good. It’s an awesome book for parents to read with their wee ones. I loved the whole look and feel to this book. A beautiful addition to any family libary.

“G is for Gossamer: A Children’s SMART & SOPHISTICATED ABC’s Book” by Miss Whitaker is a charming and innovative alphabet book designed to introduce young children to a more sophisticated vocabulary. With its elegant presentation and whimsical illustrations, it aims to enrich early language development by moving beyond the usual basic words. The illustrations were a little too whimsical for my taste, but appreciated the distinctness of this alphabet book.

Miss Whitaker, our esteemed author, guesses that even most adults will learn a new word or two along with their children. (Definitions are included.) She even says “surely your darling little daughter can mutter something more interesting than cat and car” and while we tend to agree, we wouldn’t have said it quite like that. (Thank heavens she has only curated the list and has not narrated anything.)
Makes for a perfect baby gift, and children up to the age of 7 will enjoy learning these new fancy words. Just wait until you hear your child say “but mama, look at that queue!,” instead of whining about the line at the supermarket. Oh dear, if this sneaky, delightful extravagance of a book is wrong, we don’t want to be right.
