Sweet Vengeance
By: Pamela Gibson

This is the type of book that really sucks you in from the first sentence and really keeps you engaged throughout. This book takes place during the San Francisco Gold Rush. This book has romance elements, however, the real plot movement is in Elena seeking revenge for the death of her little brother. She will give up anything to get her revenge. When she finds out who it is, it turns out it is someone who has always wanted to be with her. This allows her to really seek her revenge and find a plan that may actually work. She seeks him out to exact her revenge, however her plan doesn’t go as she expected and so very many twists and turns during the story. This was honestly such a fantastic historical fiction novel. It reads as a standalone but it is part of a series. I definitely will be going back to read the first well. Pamela Gibson has really written an engaging story with fantastic characters. I highly recommend it!

Sweet Vengeance (Mission Belles #3)Sweet Vengeance by Pamela Gibson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Vengeance has many degrees of outcomes. This is the first book I have read by Pamela Gibson and while I was intrigued by the synopsis, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I don’t usually read period books, but I had to give it a try because it sounded too interesting to miss. While this is the third book in the Mission Belles series each can be read as a standalone and I found no hindrance in not reading the previous two books. Dual perspectives of Elena and Sean.
Elena has four older sisters, before her younger brother Antoine was born, she was raised as the “son” her father always wanted. She was taught to hunt and defend her home and family but at age twelve that changed, at least for a time. When her father got ill, he made her promise to look out for her brother to teach him the ways of manhood so when time he would protect his family and land as she had before him. Only when she returns from hunting, she finds Carmelo, her brother’s friend in her home, her mother devastated and told the story of how her brother was killed by an American spy. Two years later Carmelo returns after her mothers passing and informs her of the man who stole her brother’s life. Sean Mitchell, once friends with Antoine and a spy, is now a horse trainer. He has always had a special bond with animals, now free to follow his own dreams a letter changes everything. His sister Mary Catherine, now Lolita Montero hasn’t been seen in a week, her place of work wrote him telling him he should come. Without hesitation Sean leaves for San Fransico, along the way thinks of a plan to find her or better yet how to find her. Elena was enamored with Sean when younger but now she wrestles with her vow to her mother and the long thought past feelings for the man she once admired. Sean is caught off guard when the sister of his former enemy appears and offers to help find his missing sister, but things become less clear over time. Is Elena his friend or foe, or is she something more?
Elena sought revenge, a life for a life was the vow she made to her mother but what will she do when the man responsible is right in front of her? Can Sean find his sister? What secrets will be revealed as they each follow their “plans”? The historic world of years long past shows another side of the gold rush. I was also drawn to this book as I was born in southern California and once sought vengeance for my murdered brother. But I digress the characters pain and determination with every “hiccup” gives power to the saying “god gives us what we need not necessarily what we want”. Elena wanted revenge but found something more, something worth living for. At the age of twenty-eight she was still unmarried and felt this mission would seal she never would be. Her final plan was to return to her family home and live out her life alone in solitude atoning for her actions. I plan to go back and read the previous books to see more into the worlds that the author brings to life on the pages and the characters that show strength beyond vengeance but of forgiveness.

This was a interesting historical enemies to lovers historical romance. There are so many elements to this story which make it unique and interesting. Firstly we have our main female character, she is hell bent on revenge for the murder of her brother. She will stop at nothing until the man she blames for his murder is dead. Then we have the man himself who was an American spy turned horse trainer, now his sister is missing and he needs to find her. Was it foul play or has she disappeared for another reason.
All this is going on at the time of the gold rush when strangers are coming from all over to make their fortune.
Elena Santoro has grown up being the boy her father didn’t have so she is skilled in ways no ordinary lady is. When her brother is murdered she vows to not stop until his killer loses his life too. Knowing the person was Sean leaves her with mixed feelings as she had feelings for him but how can she allow herself to fall for her brothers killer.
Sean’s life has moved on, he’s now a horse trainer and is hoping the gold rush will bring him more clients, things were looking up until his sister goes missing. Now he needs to find her but has she left of her own accord or was she taken against her will?
Elena knows if she is to complete her objective she needs to earn Sean’s trust so she offers to help him find his sister.
However the more time they spend together the more their feelings grow.
Will Elena really be able to murder the man she is falling for? And as the truth of what happened to her brother finally comes to light will she find out before its too late.

An enjoyable and engaging historical romance which kept me happily turning the pages. Elena Santoro sets off for Northern California after her dying mother’s urgent plea to kill her brother’s murderer. Although Elena knows she has both the skill and training to accomplish this, she’s unsure if she actually has the nerve to kill a man who she once admired. Former spy turned horse trainer Sean Mitchell is cautious when Elena, a woman who he knows is both seductive and dangerous turns up. However, he’s confused by his sister’s disappearance and Elena is offering to help him search for her, but he’s not forgotten that her brother was once his enemy. Sean soon discovers that he has a mysterious enemy who is determined to find his sister before he does. As Sean and Elena work together to find his missing sister and elude their enemy their mutual attraction grows. Their deepening affection is worrying as the ghost of Elena’s brother will always come between them. Set amongst the chaos of the gold rush in San Francisco the author does a great job of bringing both the setting and the era vividly to life, by both the descriptive narrative and the added historical details. The intriguing storyline along with the likeable and relatable characters kept me hooked. Whilst I loved the chemistry between Elena and Sean I also liked how their relationship developed throughout the story. Although part of a series I happily read it as a standalone story, but having enjoyed it I am keen to read the previous books in this series now.

I didn’t realize that this was book 3 when I started reading it, but I will have to say that you don’t have to have read the other books to know what was going on. This book was great to be a stand-alone book, however I do not know about the other 2 books if they are able to read alone as while. this book was filled with historical events and details, that are intended into the events of the characters. This book was also filled with adventure with Elena on a quest to fulfil her mothers wish. The mystery that follows Sean with trying to find hi missing sister. It was filled with suspense and twists and turns that really kept me hooked into this book that I had to finish reading it. the character development was amazing to the fact I really felt like I know these people and were experiencing everything with them. I felt like I was right there in with the gold rush, that I really thought this could have been true for the time. This was an amazing read and if you like history mixed into a great story this is a book or series you should pick up.

Oh my goodness I could just climb into this cover and live on the land ! After reading the story between the pages I feel a little different though because it’s sad yet beautiful I know it makes no sense but so much sense at the same time 🙈🤷‍♀️🥰🤣

So Elena swears to her mother , on her deathbed , that she will avenge the death of her brother , a modern can not go unpunished after all and make no mistake Elena is no fading wallflower and has the know how and skills to take a man out ! The tough thing is that the man that is believed to have the bliss of her brother on his hands is someone she used to admire and hold in high regard ….

Sean was a spy but after time in prison he finds the company of horses and any animal for that matter better than the company of humans and he’s got the knack to work with horses and has earned himself quite the reputation…

I loved living through Elena and Sean and the writing style really made me feel like I was there and I regret not having read the first 2 books as well but ready assured I’m going one clicking ❣️📚

This is the first book that I have read of Pamela Gibson and although it is book 3 in the Mission Belles series I read it as a stand alone novel. In hindsight I feel that some background knowledge from the previous 2 books would have helped with knowledge of characters and character development. It took till the last 3/4 of the book before my interest was completely captured and then I found it hard to put down. Elena set out to kill Sean as revenge for her brother’s death but in the end Sean’s sweet nature and the hard truth won her heart.

This is the first time reading a book by this author. I decided to read the book because it takes place during the California gold rush. I would think it was a exciting but also very dangerous time. I thought it was interesting to see Elena was heading into possible danger to fulfill her mothers wish on her death bed. What kind of danger will Elena face as she hunts down the man who killed her brother?
The author does a beautiful job of world building and character building. I could connect with the characters and get a feel for what they were thinking and struggling with. Overall, I enjoyed the book and will likely be reading other books in this series very soon.

I’m torn when it comes to picking up books already in the midst of a series. Some can be considered stand alone and have such a pleasure reading. This one can get you a bit lost in the past story content but overall it was still a good read! I absolutely loved Elena! Such a strong, determined female character. Story takes place in the 1800s in the Old West of California. I really love how they embrace the Spanish language, its American immersion to the Old West atmosphere and historical places. Elena is on a quest to grant her mother’s dying wish to murder her brother’s killer. With her trained mind and skill set, there is nothing stopping her to get to the bottom of this. She ends up meeting Sean during her travels, who is a former spy and now a horse trainer. He already suspects Elena may have ulterior motives, which makes him even more intrigued by her presence. What they find along the way and rely on each other end up being a journey they will not forget.

Sweet Vengeance (Mission Belles Book 3) by Pamela Gibson. I have truly loved this series. Its a historical romance and full of all kinds of information about California in the Gold Rush era. Its the story of Elena Santoro who has promised her dying mom that she will find the person responsible for killing her brother. Elena is used to danger but seeking out and killing a man is a different story. Her siblings can’t believe she is going thru with it. Sean is an former spy turned horse trainer and he’s looking for his sister who has disappeared. When he meets Elena and she offers to help him find his sister he’s skeptical. He doesn’t trust easily and he feels something is off about Elena. Elena thinks Sean is the man who destroyed her family but as she gets to know him and has feelings for him can she go thru with the promise she made her mom on her death bed? This author did such a good job I truly felt like I was in California in the middle of the Gold Rush!

I found this book to be a unique and refreshing historical romance story that was well written and exciting to read. I loved getting to know Sean and Elena as they navigated a tense and complicated situation. Their connection was undeniable, even when they didn’t trust each other and had alternative agendas.
When I started reading this book, I didn’t realise it was the third book in the series. However, it didn’t feel like I had missed anything by not reading the previous two. This author has created a strong story that really pulls you in. I am already looking forward to the next book and I will certainly be reading the previous two.

Sweet Vengeance (Mission Belles #3)Sweet Vengeance by Pamela Gibson

Sweet Vengeance is the third book in the Mission Belles Series, and is a historical romance. I usually do not read historical novels OR romance but this one had a twist of mystery and adventure that appealed to me so decided to give it a try. I was unaware this was a series, and this is the third book but fortunately it can be read as a standalone and was easy to follow. I’m sure if you read the others, it wouldn’t be a bad idea if the plot continues from the previous reads, but it is not needed.
In this story, Elena is on a mission to carry out her mother’s dying wish and to find the man that ruined her family. Sean is a man that doesn’t trust easily, but maybe that will change when paths and plots become crossed. Will Elena have the heart to carry out her mother’s revenge, or will love win instead??

I did like that the story remains historically accurate for the time period (as far as I can tell, I am no history buff) and nothing seems out of the ordinary for San Francisco Gold Rush days. I also liked the revenge plot, and all of the fluctuations of emotions throughout the book. Nothing felt unrealistic and characters were angry when they should be, and tensions were high at accurate moments. Overall I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked this one, and may go back and read the others in the set before this to see if it makes the story even better! Give genres a try that you usually wouldnt touch, you might like it!

Sweet Vengeance (Mission Belles #3)Sweet Vengeance by Pamela Gibson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I adored this book the second I started reading it, it feels so realistic. I love that it takes place in 1846 during the San Francisco Gold Rush, not only was it a great love story of enemies to lovers, but it was packed with excitement of a woman (Elena Santoro) seeking revenge for the death of her little brother Antoine. Elena has given up everything in her life to find out who was the person who killed her little brother, and then to seek revenge by taking their life. Elena must wait for her brother’s friend to finish up his jail sentence before asking him who caused the death of her brother. Carmelo tells Elena that her brother’s killer is none other than the man who had refused her advances in her younger years, none other than Sean Mitchell. Once she finds out this information, she sets her plans in motion to seek out Sean and take his life, once done she will finally settle down and marry. This story has so many unexpected surprises that just keep happening, that no matter what well-set plans Elena has set, something keeps going awry to make her doubt herself as well as her feelings for this man whom she has never forgiven for refusing her prior advances. Will Elena be able to fulfill her promise to her mother’s dying wish, or will she answer the call of her heart instead? The characters in this book are so full of passion and fire that they just capture your heart upon meeting them, you begin to doubt what is suspected of them, and it is so exciting to watch their story play out with all of the unexpected incidents that continue to befall our two main characters, Elena and Sean. I am so excited to go back and look up the other books in this series because this is the first book I’ve ever read of Pamela Gibson. I am amazed at how well she portrays the time of the events, it’s like I was right there experiencing the gold rush and fearing for the crowds of people all coming to San Francisco, California. What an amazing period to place such a wonderful story in.

Sweet Vengeance is the third book in the Mission Belles series by new-to-me author Pamela Gibson. This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Gibson, so I really didn’t know what to expect from one of her books, but the blurb intrigued me enough to want to find out. So, I snapped up a copy and set off on the adventure.
I didn’t realise going into this book that it was part of a series, sometimes my one-click finger takes over and it’s not till I have the book in my hands that I discover that it’s part of a series. But thankfully this can be read as a standalone. I am, however, curious about the rest of the series, so I will probably go back and read the previous two books before going on with any more of the series.
This has all the ingredients that make a great read:
-Historical detailing ✔
-A quest for revenge ✔
-Enemies to lovers romance ✔
-Secrets and lies ✔
-Dramatic developments ✔
-Danger ✔
-Suspense ✔
-Mystery ✔
-Angst ✔
-Emotion ✔
-Agendas ✔
-Tension ✔
-Intrigue ✔
-Finding love unexpectedly ✔
-Chemistry ✔
And more…
Elena sets off on a quest for revenge to fulfil her mother’s dying wish. Sean is desperate to locate his missing sister. But maybe fate has a plan of its own. So, get set for a western adventure- with rich historical detailing that brings everything to life.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Pamela Gibson!

Elena Santoro promises her mom that she will do everything she can to fulfill her dying wish…exact revenge on the person who killed her brother. Elena’s siblings can’t imagine that she agreed to carry out their mother’s dying wish and they really hope that she’ll change her mind. Elena is bound and determine to keep her mother’s wish, however.

Sean Mitchell is looking for his sister, who has changed her name. She’s a bit of a wild child and is nowhere to be found. At first, Sean thinks she’s just run off again but more information leads him to believe that his sister has been abducted.

When Elena sees Sean again, she remembers that it was HIS name mentioned by her dying brother. Does she have the wherewithall to carry out the request she promised or will she cave to Sean’s gorgeous looks?

This was a good read that included a historical background. The storyline kept my interest. While this is part of a series, I read it as a standalone. I’m curious to read the previous books in this series as well as any to follow.

This is quite the intriguing romance novel. A historical romance set during the gold rush, it’s action packed and full of very interesting characters. Elena is seeking her brother’s killer. The question is, can she kill the man she loves? Sean is hunting for his missing sister. Can he trust Elena to help him? Not normally a historical reader of any kind, I found this author’s writing to be quite enjoyable. Her writing is engaging and makes you feel like you are part of the story. This is truly an important piece when you are reading. For me, it’s the make or break for a book. This is a must read.

Sweet Vengeance is the third book in the historical Mission Belles series. I read this book before I knew there were two books before it, but I didn’t feel like I was missing out. However, I do encourage you to start with the first book Shadow of the Fox. I will be going back to see what I missed.

This is my first time reading this authors work. I am not usually a fan of historical romance, but Pamela’s writing style is compelling, and the story intriguing and I was not disappointed.

Set in the gold rush period in San Francisco this page turning plot driven story is action-packed with plenty of plot twists that it will leave readers wanting more.

This is Elena and Sean’s story.

Elena is used to danger. She is on a mission to find the man who destroyed her family. Revenge is so sweet she can taste it. He’s the archenemy but she soon finds them both in a far more dangerous position than her first quest.

Sean doesn’t trust easily his past has trained him not to and he certainly doesn’t trust her. However, when a known enemy is on the hunt, he finds them both smack dab in the middle of a dangerous game of cat and mouse.

Pamela weaves a dangerous tale where chaos reigns, escaping a dangerous foe means life or death, lies and secrets come to the fore and enemies become lovers, but there is also a lot more going on.

If you love a historical enemies to lovers trope with revenge and danger, tension and suspense that is palpable then this is a book for you.
