What’s not to love about being part of bringing new life into the world !? Being there when there’s a struggle to conceive and then it happens!? Holding a parent while they mourn a loss ( you have to have a big heart for that ) being there when a prognosis is made ….

Maeve and husband Will live in Langford , a small seaside town where Will is a caterer and Maeve is a midwife , life seems idyllic , that is until the chief of obstetrics drops dead at his daughters wedding and Will did the carrying ! Oh my goodness this is a disaster 🙈

Maeve is determined to prove her husbands innocence . Look I like Maeve she’s a real gem and she’s got so many facets to her character and can be witty , sarcastic , funny , serious , empathetic and sympathetic , she’s a good wife , sister , friend , midwife and sister 🌸

Just having finished the series “ Call the Midwife” I really enjoy the midwife side of this book but I also enjoy that issues dealt with were done so in a sympathetic and honest way , real and honest .

This is a series that has potential to be a good series for television 😉🥰

Murder at the Wedding is the first book in the Modern Midwives Mysteries Series by Christine Knapp. It follows Maeve O’Reilly Kensington, midwife by day and amateur sleuth by night. When the head Doctor of Obstetrics dies very publicly at his daughter’s wedding all eyes look at the caterers. Will, Maeve’s husband, just so happens to be the owner of the catering service. Now it’s up to Maeve to help solve the murder so her husband doesn’t lose everything he’s ever worked for. This book was interesting for me as someone with limited midwifery knowledge. The story kept my interest and there’s some great twists. Grab some tea and cozy in for a ride.

This is an engaging cozy mystery with likable and relatable characters! The author provides a lot of detail with their writing style and crafts a wonderful story and mystery that actually keeps you turning the page.

The story is fast-paced with a protagonist in Maeve and a cast of friendly, fun characters that keeps the reader engaged in the storyline. It had all the makings of a cozy mystery in some of the lighthearted, laugh-out-loud dialogue, but with mixed in intrigue and uncertainty in what will happen next. If you’re looking for a well written, entertaining, mysterious cozy, this is for you!

Maeve (pronounced like Brave but with an “M”) has an exhausting but rewarding job as a midwife/nurse. She’s surrounded by people in all walks of life and gets to help them bring new life to the world. Her husband, Will, is in a new life of his own while his catering business gets up and running.

When the Chief Obstetrician (Maeve’s coworker/boss) dies suddenly at a wedding her husband is catering, her world is suddenly plunged into more chaos. Suddenly Will is il under suspicion and Maeve is trying to find out who killed the doctor and clear her husbands name.

I’m a race against time, she’s got to stay ahead of the game and pray the killer doesn’t catch up.

You’ll jump right into action with this book. It moved at a very fast paced and I was definitely surprised along the way. It’s not my typical read and I found the blurbs at the beginning of chapters to be very interesting.

While I don’t think I’ll read the rest of the series, I was pleased with this book and definitely recommend it for someone who enjoys cozier mysteries.

I really enjoyed this murder mystery. The story line was unique and kept me guessing who was the murderer all the way which kept me turning the pages.
The author does a great job with the characters. Some i immediately fell in love with whereas others i got an instant dislike for.
This story is a murder mystery. When the  Chief Obstetrician falls down dead at his daughters wedding there are some questions that need to be answered. Maeve O’Reilly Kensington is a midwife and it was her boss that suddenly passed away but what was the cause?
With her husband Will being the caterer for the wedding fingers start to point towards him as the culprit. Maeve knows she’s got to find the real killer to prove her husbands innocence.
With the new acting head of Obstetricians trying to do away with the midwife department Maeve professional and private lives collide. She knows she needs to solve this case and get to the bottom of what is happening not only to save her husbands business but also to save her own job. With the aid of her mother, sister and at times reluctant brother Maeve decides both of their futures rest on her shoulders and getting to the bottom of this case.
Was it just a sad untimely death? Did something more sinister play a part in the Chiefs death? Why would someone what to murder the Cheif Obststrician? As the secret and lies start to unravel Maeve starts to uncover things and things start to get dangerous.

This was a great cosy read that I couldn’t put down. I loved Maeves character and her determination to do what’s right no matter where the truth leads her.

Well this had been an interesting and twisted story. Murder at the Wedding, well yes that happened but not in the way I expected going into it. The author brings you on a journey of two sisters trying to solve what happened, while trying to salvage everything about the one sister’s life(since it’s all connected.)
What happens when your boss dies at his daughter’s wedding?
Was it an innocent mistake?
Was it intentional?
Who would want him dead?
What a tragedy….
Maeve is part of the midwife practice at the current hospital. Which landed her an invite to the biggest event of the season. Her boss’s daughter’s wedding. Besides the fact her husband was the caterer, the event was going by without a hitch. That is till he got up and gave a speech, and never uttered another word.
What happened? Why did his epipen not work?
Maeve teams up with her sister Meg as they try to figure out what happened. Along the way they come across some interesting twists and turns that point the blame at other people. But which one is it? They wait patiently for the right one to slip up so they can pounce.
This journey becomes very personal to Maeve because her husband and job are involved. Will they figure it out? Was the wrong person arrested?
The journey the author takes you on keeps you guessing till the very end.
If you enjoy a good murder mystery whodunit? And like those books on the shorter end? This book is perfect for you. It’s good and it gives the reader exactly what they are looking for. A cozy murder mystery.

Murder at the Wedding is the first book in the Modern Midwife Mysteries Series. This is the perfect cozy mystery to curl up on a chilly day. I read this in one sitting. This is the first book I’ve read by this author so I wasn’t a hundred percent sure what to expect going in but I definitely wasn’t disappointed. Maeve is a Midwife and loves helping people in her little town of Langford. Will is her husband and also started his own catering business. What will happen when the Chief Obstetrician drops dead at an event Will catered? Maeve sets out to solve the mystery before anything else happens I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next . I’m already looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Murder At The Wedding
By: Christine Knapp

This is the first book in the Modern Midwife Mysteries series. This is a cozy mystery which is definitely why I grabbed it, well that and a very intriguing sounding premise that promised mystery coupled with what sounded like fantastic family drama that wasn’t my own.
Christine Knapp is fantastic at developing characters that feel like they could live in the house next door to yours. They are complex yet have problems that feel like the “neighbors dirty laundry” plus this story has murder which leads to crime and investigation and this literally had all the makings of my next favorite book. Christine Knapp has created a fantastic lead character in Maeve who seems as if she is made for TV with her quick comments and her inner monologue that will keep you laughing. She definitely keeps the pace of the story moving at a good clip and she is one of those main characters that you know that will be one that you will reach for again and again. I don’t want to compare her to Stephanie Plum, but that is the first character that comes to mind when I think of a very strong character driven series. Christine Knapp also does a fantastic job combining the mystery / crime genre with the medical genre. This added another wonderful element to the story. This book literally felt like it was written just for me with how many of my favorite things it included. I definitely recommend reading this and I hope to see more of Maeve in the future!

Maeve loves her job as a midwife. She has an amazing husband, Will, who is working hard to get his catering business up and running. And, although her in-laws can be less than welcoming to her, she has the support of her close-knit Irish family. But, when the Chief Obstetrician drops dead at his daughter’s wedding (which Will’s company was catering), Maeve finds herself living in a real-life murder mystery. As time goes by, and more people are finding themselves in harm’s way, Maeve and her sister are determined to figure out who is behind everything. But, when Maeve finds herself as the target, could it be too late?

I enjoyed this story. There are a couple of storylines intertwined throughout the book. There is Maeve’s determination to find out who killed the beloved Chief. The unwavering love between Maeve and Will as they try to chase Will’s dream and work on having a family of their own. And, finally, the importance of family support through all of life’s ups and downs. I loved Maeve’s character. She was smart and witty, but I could also feel her heartbreak and frustration. The author seamlessly wove these storylines together so they progressed concurrently. Overall, a great story that I didn’t put down until the last page!

What a lovely, entertaining and heartwarming cozy mystery this book turned to be. The book is a well written mystery that they author has taken the time to develop properly. It builds as each page goes on and I loved watching it all unravel to reveal who was behind it all.
The characters really made this book for me though. I thought the author had introduced a fantastic set of characters who all added to the story in their own way. Everyone played a role and I really enjoyed getting to know each of them. Although this a still a relatively new author to me, I am really starting to enjoy getting to know her writing style. I have enjoyed every book so far and I am sure the next one will be no different.

Murder at the Wedding is the first book in the Modern Midwife Mysteries series by Christine Knapp. This fast-paced cosy mystery is a great book to escape from the drudgery of normal life for a while. I enjoyed the added element of the midwives thrown in with the mystery.
Christine’s easy writing style is engaging and dabbed throughout with a bit of humour. The easy banter, a touch of wit and descriptive narrative makes it enjoyable and the story flow nicely.
It is a cleverly put together plot with ebbs and flows of complexities that keep the story moving forward. Add in a whole cast of quirky, unique and sometimes obnoxious characters is there any wonder there is mystery, murder, mishaps, mayhem and life and death, just to name a few, get ready for the fun to begin.
With drama, fear, angst, ‘those’ kind of in-laws, a husband’s freedom and catering business on the line, a dachshund, suspects, agenda’s, motives and danger Maeve is desperate, so along with her barbed tongued sister and quick-witted mother, she sets out to find a murderer. Much to the chagrin of her reluctant police chief brother.
Christine gives the reader an added bonus of easy to-follow recipes. Bon Appétit.
If you love a good whodunit Murder at the Wedding is a must.

Murder at the Wedding is Book One in the Modern Midwife Mysteries series. It is a cozy mystery with suspense, action, intrigue, drama, crime, and murder. The story centers around the character of Maeve who lives in the quaint little town of Langford located by the seaside in New England. Maeve works at the Creighton Memorial hospital as a midwife. When she is invited to a ritzy wedding at the Country Club for the daughter of the Chief Obstetrician at the hospital, she certainly is not expecting for him to suddenly drop dead during the reception. Maeve’s husband catered the event so now he is the prime suspect in the death of the man. Maeve enlists the help of her mother and sister to try to find the real killer and clear her husband’s name.

This book had an intriguing storyline and interesting cast of characters. Maeve was smart, witty, kind, caring, nurturing, and feisty. I loved that she was a midwife as this is something that I had not read before as an occupation for female MC’s. It was interesting to read the inner workings of being a midwife and what it entailed. Maeve was unable to have children of her own so bringing babies into the world for other women brought her immense joy. At times though, it could be difficult for her and emotionally exhausting. Maeve’s husband Will was sweet, kind, caring, understanding, and one heck of a good cook. He loved his work as a caterer and took great pride in the food he prepared for each event. Maeve and Will had a great marriage and were there for each other through even the most difficult times. I really enjoyed the witty banter between Maeve and the other characters and cracked up a few times at the clever things she would say. I highly recommend this book!

Murder at the Wedding (Modern Midwife Mysteries Book 1)Murder at the Wedding by Christine Knapp
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Maeve O’Reilly Kensington is a midwife struggling with infertility who’s married to William. William has disappointed his family by opening a catering business instead of having a well-esteemed career like the rest of the family. They are desperately wanting to start a family but so far, it’s just not in the cards for them.

The wedding of the year is coming up soon and Will is hired to cater it. Everything must go as planned so that he doesn’t have to take out another loan and prove his family just how much of a failure he is. The bride’s father is the head of the Obstetrics unit where Maeve (rhymes with “brave) is employed. During the toast, Dr. Whitaker appears to be having a medical emergency and subsequently dies. Now everything that Will had planned to perfection is under a ton of scrutiny and his business may tank.

Maeve and her sister Meg begin to put together a variety of theories as to “whodunit”, against their brother Patrick’s better wishes. He desires for his sisters to let him do his job as a police officer and that they keep their day jobs as a midwife and realtor respectively. Not about to let a good situation pass by, Maeve and Meg do get involved and help to bring down the murderer.

First of all, I appreciate that this author has medical experience and that the terms and procedures described are done so accurately. That being said, a disclaimer should be issued for this book as it does have triggering issues for those who’ve experienced infertility or the loss of a child(ren). There are a few scenes that did not pertain to the overall solving the murder that could have been left out, however, they also give a “real-life” view into the role of a midwife. I did find the story engaging and appreciated the nice little twist at the end, although the murderer was pretty high on my list the whole time.

I look forward to more books in this series.

Murder At the Wedding is the first book in the Modern Midwife Mysteries series by Christine Knapp. This is the first book that I have read by this author, so I really didn’t know what to expect from one of her books- but I do love a good cozy mystery, so I took a chance, grabbed myself a copy, and dove right in.
What I discovered between the covers is a fun and entertaining cozy mystery with an intriguing storyline, tension, dramatic developments, family dynamics, murder, crime and investigation, a midwife ‘detective’, hospital politics, emotion, and interesting characters.
I loved Maeve and her somewhat snarky and sarcastic inner dialogue, and witty banter. She really was the star of the show here and really helped to bring the whole story to life. I would love to see this book/series made into a television series, as Meave would be very entertaining on screen. I loved that the author gave her a bit of an original ‘occupation’, and she wasn’t the ‘typical’ writer, chef, bookstore owner, or wedding planner (etc) that we see so much of in cozy mysteries. I also liked the showing of the pregnancy info, ‘hospital’ workings, snippets of hospital procedure, hospital/workplace politics, and midwife work practices- as this added an extra element of interest to the story. Although saying that, there were a few tense, and/or emotional moments- and I will mention that there are some possible triggers included in the storyline, so consider this before diving in. The author has included sensitive topics in the day-to-day dealings of a midwife, and ‘real-life’ issues- but I think she did so in a mindful and considerate way (topics such as fertility issues, and loss of a baby).
Maeve, and the supporting cast of characters are all really well-developed individuals, with their own unique personalities, quirks, and flaws. Ms. Knapp has an eye for detail and her story is wonderfully descriptive, setting the scenes beautifully- painting pictures with her words, and giving everything a ‘visual’ quality.
I enjoyed the mystery and the ‘whodunnit’ aspect’ and the complex storyline, and other clever touches Ms. Knapp wove into her story- it made for an engrossing read.
I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more of Ms. Knapps work in the future- as well as continuing with this series.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Christine Knapp!

Never being pregnant myself, I loved the facts/tidbits about pregnancy sprinkled at the beginning of each chapter. The start of the book contains a relevant quote from Moby Dick, which sets the tone for the whole book.

The line “I didn’t wake with nightmares. But then again, my nightmares were all coming in the daytime.” It sums up Maeve’s life as she tries to solve a mystery and save their family business. The book excels at character interactions and the main characters are fully flushed out. The field of obstetrics is also described, but not in a boring nonfiction way, but as part of the story.

I was also intrigued to read more about and find out “El Cid” could have been based on a real person!

I found the mystery to be easy to solve, but still really enjoyed this light hearted, fast read.
I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

This is the first book in the Modern Midwife Mysteries series. I absolutely love cozy mysteries so was looking forward to this one. It was enjoyable and a great introduction to the characters.
The writing style flowed nicely and was easy to follow making for a nice quick read. The writing was descriptive so I could picture is all clearly as I tried to solve the case alongside Maeve. To start with I was unsure whether Maeve’s determination and strength came from wanted to clear Will’s name, but as we got to know her character she definitely seems like my kind of person.
I also liked the mix of real information, cosy mystery and humour, it was balanced well and worked (and the fudge cake doesn’t hurt).
I loved Maeve, her family and the interactions between the characters and I look forward to catching up with them again!

I thoroughly enjoyed this engaging cozy mystery which kept me hooked throughout. Set in the New England seaside town of Langford, nurse-midwife Maeve O’Reilly Kensington works at Creighton Memorial Hospital. Maeve loves her job and enjoys helping women bringing new life into the world, but sadly her wish to have a child of her own with husband Will is yet to happen. Whilst supporting Will with his new catering business, Maeve attends the very extravagant wedding reception of the daughter of the Chief Obstetrician at Creighton Memorial. To everyone’s shock the doctor drops dead, and when Will’s catering is blamed Maeve starts her own investigation to find the killer and clear her husbands name. Along with her wealthy and acerbic sister Meg and her quick witted Irish mother, Maeve is determined to solve the murder, but as she try’s to stay one step ahead the killer is ready to strike again and this time Maeve and her loved ones are all at risk. This wonderfully written cozy mystery has well developed characters, a setting which comes to life through the descriptive narrative and a storyline which kept me happily turning the pages. Maeve is a great amateur sleuth as well as a nurse-midwife and I look forward to future books in this new series.

Oops, forgot her hot husband and their trying to solve the murder. I loved this book. The danger, misadventures, pomposity of everything just makes this one heck of a fun mystery to read.
