I’m always up for a cozy mystery. In this one, which is a continuation of a series, Eve Sawyer heads to Prospect, Colorado, a small town, with her friend Bob to help him navigate the death of his Uncle Will. Eve is a journalism student who has a knack for helping sleuth out crimes. She’s a younger Jessica Fletcher, and doesn’t believe that Will died from natural causes.
Suen winds strands of the plot together – a suspicious death, competing agendas and the ever revolving drama of small town life.
It can be read as a stand alone, but I believe I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the previous books in the series.

Eve Sawyer has been working her way through college toward a journalism degree and does some sleuthing on the side. Her fellow classmate, Bob, recently lost his uncle Will to what has been said was natural causes. Once they arrive in his hometown of Prospect he feels that something isn’t right. Eve has yet another opportunity to put her sleuthing skills to good use and try to uncover the truth. They have very little to go on when things take a turn and a guest at the inn winds up dead. Is Will’s death truly from natural causes or is his death related to the new case? All of these books have been good reads. Sleuthing right along with Eve as she solves these cases is a fun way to pass some time.

I had only read one other book by this author before, but the cover caught my attention which prompted me to grab it! I didn’t realize this was the fifth book in the Eve Sawyer Mystery series, so I hadn’t read any of the previous books. I didn’t feel lost at any point through the story though, so you can definitely read it as a standalone. I enjoyed it so much that I am circling back to pick up the rest of the series! Something that stood out to me in this book was the astounding character development. Even the secondary characters added more depth to the narrative which made me feel like every piece was perfectly placed. Eve was such an incredible main character that shows that vulnerability is a strength. If you enjoy cozy mysteries that will keep you guessing and have you in suspense, this one is certainly worth picking up. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

Murder In Prospect (An Eve Sawyer Mystery) by Jan Suen. I love this series and I love Eve Sawyer. She is so confident and truly believes that she can solve any crime. While on Spring Break in Prospect her friend Bob is dealing with the death of his Uncle Will who he’s been told it was natural causes. Bob doesn’t believe it was natural causes so of course Eve has to investigate. As Eve investigates she doesn’t believe it was natural causes either and she stirs up all kinds of trouble. While Eve continues to investigate another murder takes place so Eve is for sure Bob’s Uncle didn’t die of natural causes because they are all connected. These books are so fun and don’t have to be read in order. I always recommend reading them in order to get a better feel for the characters and story. Let’s hope Eve can solve this mystery before more people end up dead.

With some series it takes a chapter or two to remember the previous book/books and storyline. That was not the case with this book.
Eve is a great friend and she proves it once again when Bob come to her for help and she goes with no questions.
Bob has a feeling the death of his Uncle Will isn’t as cut and dry as it appears. The vibes from his Uncle the last time they saw each other was very different from Will’s usual.
I love trying to figure things out before the reveal and this time I got it, but it took me a bit.
I have enjoyed the Eve Sawyer books I have read, hope to see more in the future.

Pleasant story starting with two college friends, Bob and Eve. It is a nice read with a slow burn and build up. The characters are very interesting. Bob and Eve are best friends, who are there for each other through thick & thin. Filled with murder, mystery, and suspense in a small historic mining town.

Murder in Prospect is an Eve Sawyer Mystery. This is the 5th book in a series, but I did not feel like I missed anything but not reading the previous books. This book follows Eve and her friend Bob who attend college together. Bob was raised by his Uncle Will and comes to find out that he had passed away, but suspects something just isn’t right about it. He invites Eve to spend Spring Break together. She had solved different mysteries before and thought maybe she could help him look into his death. This is super cute, very quick read and will leave you feeling satisfied with the result.

When Eve is asked by her best friend, Bob, to accompany him back to his hometown to be his support as Bob lost his Uncle Will unexpectedly. Eve brings her sleuth skills and is puzzled there is more to Uncle Will’s passing then what is led on to believe. With so many questions in the air and Bob also struggling with his grief, will Eve be able help solve the puzzle and help out her friend…

Murder in Prospect is the fifth book in the Eve Sawyer Mystery series. Although it is part of a series, it can be enjoyed as a standalone mystery. This is a fast pace, quirky little story. We begin with the main character Eve Sawyer, we is supporting her friend, Bob, who just lost his uncle whom he was very fond of. However something isn’t quite right and Eve becomes suspicious about the events leading up to Bob’s Uncle’s death. A great read for those who love a good mystery.

You did need to read these books in order so you can understand this series. I was excited that I got this book. I started reading it right away. I could not put this book down under the ending. I read this story in only a few hours. I hope this is not the last book in this series. If so it will be sadly missed.
Eve Sawyer is in college studying journalism. She is doing amazing in all her classes. Eve is invited to go on a trip with one of her friends Bob. She hates flying but she needs a getaway. They end up at a small mining town called Prospect where Bob’s Uncle died suddenly. Eve doesn’t believe the course is death so she starts her own investigation. She is picking up clues to show a possible murder took place. Eve is getting closer to the killer but there is another murder. She is starting to believe there is a serial killer out there. Will Eve and Bob find the killer or will it be too late and they lose the killer for good?

In Murder in Prospect, Jane Suen returns readers to Eve Sawyer, a determined journalism student with a knack for sleuthing, who steps into a world of intrigue and danger during what was supposed to be a relaxing spring break. The narrative begins with a compelling premise—Eve’s commitment to helping her friend Bob, who is grappling with the suspicious death of his Uncle Will. Suen deftly weaves a tale that sharply balances the personal and the investigative, drawing readers into the quaint yet deceptive charm of a small mining town.
From the outset, Suen builds a palpable sense of tension as Eve confronts her fear of flying—a metaphorical hurdle that reflects her deeper journey as she faces the ominous circumstances surrounding Uncle Will’s death. The author’s ability to create relatable characters makes Eve’s burgeoning confidence as an amateur detective one of the highlights of the story. Her relationships with Bob and the townspeople add emotional depth and credibility to her quest for the truth.
Suen’s writing shines in her descriptive passages, as she brings the town and its characters to life, making them feel authentic and compelling. The incorporation of local lore adds an intriguing dimension to the plot, suggesting that the answers to the present mysteries may lie within the secrets of the past.

Determined to help her friend, she takes to investigating the situation to figure out what is really going on. The story is a gripping mystery that has you hooked as soon as you start reading. I wanted to see how things would turn out and which way the author would take this book. However, the thing I loved the most about this book is the fact that it showcases the authors talent for creating such diverse books in comparison to her own work. Every book you pick up by her is different, which makes her an exciting author to read. This is a great addition to the series and I am looking forward to more of Eve’s adventures.

Lately I have been reading some really good mystery books and this is one of them. Once I started reading I just could not put it down.
Bob and Eve were really good friends and they went to College together. Bob went back home to visit his Uncle Will and noticed that he was not feeling well. He refused to go to the Dr. Not too long after he went home for the visit he finds out that his Uncle Will has passed away. Torn with grief, he decides to ask Eve to go to Prospect with him. He thinks something feels off about his Uncle’s death and wants her along to help him check it out.
Since they are best friends she decides she will do what she can to help him figure out what happened. I think you will enjoy this book as much as I did.

Murder in Prospect is the fifth book in the Eve Sawyer Mystery series. I was drawn to it as I have read and enjoyed the previous book in the series and other stories by this author. Although it is part of a series, it can be enjoyed as a standalone mystery as aside from a few references to earlier adventures it is a fairly self-contained story.
Eve’s friend Bob brings her along to visit Prospect, the town where his late uncle lived. He feels there’s something not quite right about his uncle’s death and Eve’s investigative skills may prove useful. Eve shares Bob’s belief that there is more to the case than meets the eye, and the pair attempt to piece together a bigger picture of Will’s life and death.
This is a captivating mystery with a cast of characters who may or may not be connected with the case. I particularly liked young Serena, who provides some insights that give Eve plenty to think about!
I’d recommend this book to fans of mysteries set in interesting locations – I enjoyed exploring the historic mining town with Eve! It gets four stars from me.

Murder in Prospect revolves around Eve, an amateur sleuth, who is drawn to a murder case while on a spring break. Her friend Bob is grieving the death of his uncle, who is supposed to have died because of natural causes, but Eve smells something fishy. She puts on her sleuth cap and journalism skills into action and starts digging into this murder mystery. As the case becomes difficult, another murder occurs and now it’s a race against time for Eve to solve the mystery and stop more people from dying. I love the cozy mystery genre; this book was a very breezy read. I look forward to reading more in this series.

Another enjoyable and engaging cozy mystery in this series featuring journalism student and amateur sleuth Eve Sawyer. Whilst on spring break Eve gets drawn into investigating a murder case. Her friend Bob is grieving the death of his Uncle Will, but although it was ruled that he died of natural causes Bob thinks it was foul play. Soon after she arrives Eve feels the same and uses her sleuthing skills along with her journalism expertise to look into the mystery. Eve is struggling to solve the case with only scant evidence when another murder occurs. Following the death of a guest at the local inn Eve needs to find the killer before there’s another murder. I love being back with Eve as she’s such a likeable and relatable main character and I always feel invested in her story. The small historic mining town Eve was visiting was brought vividly to life through the descriptive narrative. Once again I felt fully immersed in the storyline and the plot kept me hooked throughout.

‘ I needed to think about how to proceed. A murderer might be in our midst. ’
First let’s take a moment to appreciate this gorgeous cover….. my favourite of the series, so far! Murder In Prospect is the fifth intriguing instalment in the Eve Sawyer Mystery Series by Jane Suen. This series just gets better and better with each new instalment, and I really enjoy following Eve along as she unravels some puzzling little mysteries. We join Eve Sawyer, who sets off to support her friend, Bob, who has recently lost his beloved uncle. Things don’t quite add up – and Eve becomes suspicious about the events leading up to the Uncle’s death. And as we’ve come to expect, murder and plenty of trouble seem to follow Eve wherever she goes. What happens makes for an engrossing read. Murder In Prospect is another great little cozy mystery – well woven with clever little touches that kept me guessing. A story of crime and investigation, friendship, amateur detective/s, a whodunit feel, agendas, a plot for revenge, suspense, drama, danger, interesting characters, secrets, lies/deception, tension, and a small-town setting. This story could be read as a standalone. But, I highly recommend reading the previous books, as there are some spoilers for other book/s contained here – while the other books also provide some great little mysteries to untangle with character details, development, and other relevant information which will certainly enhance your appreciation and enjoyment of this book (as well as the series as a whole). Can’t wait to see what Eve gets up to next. Bring on Book #6! Happy Reading…

4.5 stars It seems that no matter where she goes, Eve finds herself caught up in yet another murder mystery. That’s one of the reasons I enjoy this series so much, because you never know what Jane has in store for us. Once again, Eve puts on her super sleuthing hat to help a friend uncover the truth behind his uncle’s death. However, this case is proving to be difficult, and a second murder has occurred. Eve will need all her skills if she hopes to discover who is behind these murders. She soon finds that every question seems to lead to more questions. “Murder in Prospect” is another exciting cozy mystery story in the Eve Sawyer Mystery series. While all the books can be read as standalone, I highly recommend going back to the first book to find out where this determined and quirky young woman started. What secrets are being concealed in this small, historic mining town?
