My Big Red Monster (Giants and Monsters) by Lois Wickstrom is a great story to add to her collection of wonderful children’s books! As always, she has filled the pages with bright and colorful illustrated pages that appeal to the eyes of young children. Lois has written another book that has lessons for the little ones that provide learning/teaching opportunities, ways to overcome fear, fun, monsters and so much more! Do you know what to do if there are monsters under your bed? Well, if you don’t then you will need to pick up this cute children’s story that tells you what to do! Lois has a knack for writing wonderful children’s stories that are well illustrated and are full of lessons for the younger children!

This book written by Lois Wickstrom is based on a Hindu teaching Tale and although I am not familiar with the tale the original message shines through. Nicolas Milano does an excellent job illustrating this book about monsters. The monster is in no way visually scary. Once the little one you are reading the book to/with realises that there is not a scary monster in this story then the monster is portrayed to be more a friendly helper. Always great to find another children’s author who has a vivid imagination to convey a meaningful tale.

My Big Red Monster was an easy to read, colorfully illustrated adventure into the nightmares and fears of children. Lois Wickstrom creates an imaginative take on the fear many children have of a monster hiding under the bed. The little girl in the story has a strong, red monster under her bed but her brother doesn’t believe her. She finally confronts the monster, asking, “What do you want?” The monster tells her she can tell him what to do, but if she doesn’t, he’ll eat her. The little girl gives him various chores to do, and adds one very funny twist at the end! Cleverly written and beautifully illustrated, My Big Red Monster is a must read for any little one’s bed time!

This is another great success from a well-loved author in our household. As soon as I said we had a new book to read, my kids insisted on doing so straight away. It was colourful, entertaining and, as always, had a positive message for children. And the fact that it was told via a big red monster hiding under a bed just made it all the more entertaining.
As with all books by this author, we had read this multiple times. My daughter was able to read the book herself (for the first time!) which made her so excited. And my son loved every picture throughout the book. This has been another huge success.

We couldn’t stop chuckling with this story. Sister finds the red monster under her bed. In order to save herself, she has to give it jobs. My grandson and I were having fun thinking up jobs and drawing monsters under his “bed.” This story opened such an entertaining conversation. Those pictures are wonderful. They have great dimensions to show everything. Another winner from one of my favorite authors.

My Big Red Monster (Giants and Monsters) by Lois Wickstrom is a bright and colourful illustrated children’s story book with learning/teaching opportunities, overcoming fear, monsters, intrigue, fun, and a little drama- to us a few lessons along the way.
When monsters hide under the bed, there are ways of dealing with them- and this story shows how- in a fun and imaginative way.
The illustrations are also fun and interesting- adding an extra element of interest as they bring the story to life.
A great addition to the series.

I want a big red monster!!!

This is a fun read and kids will enjoy this story! They’ll want a monster too! The illustrations seem to jump off the page, they are so well done. Very colorful to go along with a great story!

This might be my favorite Lois Wickstrom book!!

This was so cute. The big red monster tells the little girl he needs a job or he would eat her. So she gives him many of jobs. And everytime he is done he says he will eat her. After she’s done with her monster, she tells the monster to go hide under her brothers bed.

“My Big Red Monster” is a children’s book written by Lois Wickstrom and illustrated by Priscilla Lamont. The book follows a little girl who is afraid of the big red monster that lurks under her bed. However, when she finally confronts the monster, she discovers that he is not so scary after all – in fact, he just wants to be her friend. Together, they embark on a fun adventure through the city and even stop a bully in his tracks.

The book is designed to help children learn to conquer their fears and embrace new friendships. The illustrations are colorful and engaging, which makes the book accessible and enjoyable for young readers. The storyline is simple yet effective in addressing common childhood fears.

I lived with monsters under the bed when I was younger and would have loved a book like this to see things differently. Lois has taken and old tale and put her spin on it and it is one that little ones should read to put their minds at ease.
Lois Wickstrom has given her readers another unique story and the wonderful bright and colourful illustrations by Nicolas Milano bring it to life.
My Big Red Monster is aimed for children ages 4-8 and will delight in the story.
Brothers that scoff at the idea of a monster under the bed beware it may just be true.
A fun addition to Lois’s Giants and Monsters series.

Lois is a former high school chemistry teacher and former head science teacher at Science in the City Summer Camp in Philadelphia. She has also been an adjunct science teacher at University of South Florida. Since retiring, she continues to take science classes. Her class in Forensic Biology led to Little Red, The Detective, in which Red is studying fingerprint identification, so she can tell that “Grandma” isn’t who she says she is.

Lois has taken so many science classes that she believes science is the solution to almost every problem, including the dilemmas in fairy tales. She has invented what she calls Science Folktales. In each science-based tale, the protagonist achieves a better ending than the original because of learning scientific principles. She has turned some of these tales into plays.

She has also created a series of Mermaid Science stories, which make use of water science.

Lois is married to the love of her life. She has two children, four grandchildren and a dog.
