My Goodbye GirlMy Goodbye Girl by Anna Gomez
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Tessa has a lot going on right now. She just wrote a best selling novel that is still working its way up the charts. She is constantly on the road running from one book signing to the next press appearance to the next conference to whatever her agent has booked her for now. On the plane to one such event, she spies him. He is everything. Tall, beautiful, a little bit nerdy, a lot shy. Now is not the time for falling in love. She is not even sure she believes in love except the kind that fills the pages of the romance novel she wrote.

Simon only attended the conference because he had to. When he sees her on the plane, he stumbles. Simon has never been good at talking to the ladies, that has not changed. When he finds her again at the hotel, just at a different conference, he tries to talk to her. He knows when he asks her to meet him that she won’t but he goes there anyway on the off chance that she actually shows up. When she shows up not to meet him but randomly, he takes the opportunity to get to know her.

They each stand at a crossroads in their careers. Tessa’s star is only rising so she will be busy with all the events. Simon is transferring home to England and will be there permanently. As they find ways to meet up at her events, they become closer. When he finally confesses his feelings, she agrees to give it a go, his way. Then tragedy strikes. Her world implodes.

Three years later, out of the blue, Simon calls. Tessa can’t get him or his voice out of her mind. In order to find him and give them a hopeful second chance, Tessa must work through all the memories she has been pushing down since her world stopped. Can they get past the hurt, the anger, the pain to find their way back to each other?

A rollercoaster of emotions. First you are caught up in the excitement of Tessa and Simon’s globetrotting love story. Then it crashes down around them. Stay strapped in for picking up the pieces. There is beauty in their love story. Well worth the read.

My Goodbye Girl by Anna Gomez is my first read by this author, and I would say that it’s a cute little rom com with the main characters of a writer named Tessa and a scientist named Simon. The way that Anna describes the characters and their lifestyles, we can conclude that they are opposites, but it’s like the old saying goes…. opposites attract! Simon and Tessa happen to meet on a flight and Simon finds that he can’t stay away from the spontaneous author. Tessa finds Simon interesting and herself attracted to him and decides to invite him all around the world with her, but Simon quickly finds out that Tessa won’t move on to the next step of committing to a relationship. Of course, there has to be some sort of conflict, or it would be a very short book, less interesting story. Tessa’s refusal to settle down with Simon isn’t their only predicament, they live on different continents, have different lifestyles, and Tessa suffers a loss that she just can’t seem to recover from.
This was a good read, but I found myself wanting more. The only thing that I can say is pick up the book and give it a go, you will have to determine for yourself if it was worth picking up or not, I don’t think that you will be one bit disappointed!

I just loved the dedication
“ Dedicated to those who never got to say goodbye. Because the living is left to them “ this really hit home for me as I lost my mum and a very dear friend and I never got to say goodbye and I’d like to think I’m living my life in a way that honours them ❣️

Tessa met Simon on a Boeing 777 heading for La Gaurdia from Boston and it was an instant click ….
I can’t really explain it but watching it unfold was magical

Tessa being an author lives life and what it throws in our way through the eyes of others , she observes and her writing is a mix of reality and fiction ….

Simon is a committed scientist dealing in facts so these 2 amazing peeps are like worlds apart yet they’re perfect for each other ❣️

They meet sporadically across the world over the years and what starts as stolen moments soon deepens and Simon takes a bold step but then tragedy strikes and my heart shatters for everyone involved , I stopped reading for a day just to pull myself together and once I gathered myself I dove back in and what an emotional rollercoaster it was and oh so beautiful 😍

Simon and Tessa fought hard for their happily ever after and what a privilege it’s been to be part of their journey ❣️📚

I thought the cover of this book was pretty cute as I love to travel, so I picked it up without paying much attention to the synopsis. I dove right in and found myself in love with Tessa and Simon, who seem to embody the ‘opposites attract’ theory we hear so much about. I found myself engrossed in all of the places these two keep encountering each other, and I would have had such a difficult time turning away after just the second meeting! The story flowed well, and I couldn’t read fast enough to see the ending through the emotional rollercoaster. I highly recommend if you like deep emotions that bring out a tear or two!

Beautiful story that will stay with me for a long time. This story of Simon and Tessa….giving me all the feels of romance, opposites attract, pure raw emotion, drama, travel, tragedy and secrets. I am so glad I read this book, it was truly wonderful and hard to put down.

Tessa Talman’s life is taking a whirlwind as a new and upcoming author, never expecting her huge success taking her to destinations that are truly breathless. Tessa loves the travel and not being tied down to one place or even a special someone as that is not in her cards…..until she meets
Simon Fremont during one of her flights to a destination.

Simon is super smart and focused being successful early in his career and on a flight to a conference he is to speak at….never expecting to run into the beautiful free spirited Tessa. Simon tries so hard to get to know Tessa better.

Thru the months….Tessa and Simon get to know each other and knowing goodbyes’s are the hardest….their feelings for each other grow deeper….true happiness ensues….but when tragedy strikes, will Tessa and Simon overcome the hurt, anger and loss…

I do not want to give any spoilers away……even though it is very hard..I could talk about this story forever….definitely pick up this book and enjoy this true emotional roller coaster of a ride….

I loved this book! Tessa and Simon meet on an airplane when she is standing on his seat putting her purse away. They don’t get to talk as the middle seat person sits down, but they both sneak peeks at each other. Tessa is an author and is on tour for her new book that made a big splash. Simon is a scientist and has some amazing discoveries. They meet again at a conference where she is doing a book signing and he is speaking. Tessa and Simon start to have feelings and much of the book is the two of them meeting in different places around the world. I love to travel so I loved reading about all of the places that they visit. Tessa doesn’t like to make commitments and Simon has some strong feelings for her. They maneuver through their travels, their work, and their lives. There are twists and turns and a lot of emotions that happen throughout the book. I was cheering for them and then they separated but we don’t know why. I couldn’t stop reading and needed to know what happened to them. I hope the author comes out with more!

My Goodbye Girl

This is one of those books that hits you in the feels hard and leaves you quite emotional. I haven’t cried while reading in a while until this book. The tears were happy, sad and at times angry but I was not going to put the book down long enough to wipe them away.

Oh Tessa. What an incredibly strong and smart woman. She is understandably apprehensive on developing a relationship with anyone and Simon scared her for so many reasons, she didn’t know if she could ever unlock her heart but Simon found a way.

I was reluctant to read this because I had a feeling it was going to make me cry. I’m so glad I did and I fell in love with everything about their story.

Keep a box of kleenex close and be prepared to deal with all of your feelings. It’s 100% worth it.

My Goodbye Girl by Anna Gomez. This is the perfect romance to read as you are on vacation at the beach, in the mountains or at the lake! I loved this book. Its about Tessa who is a up and coming romance author is flighty, scattered and fun who has one goal in mind….fame. Simon is a scientist who is very detailed, organized and focused on one thing…money. They meet on a flight from Boston to LA but never really speak. She notices the good looking man across from her and he slips her his business card as they are getting off the plan. Over the years they see each other in various places but they can never get on the same page. Simon becomes a little less rigid and Tessa becomes a little more organized each time they are around one another. When Tess begins to think about how her brother is the only family she has she begins to think maybe fame isn’t all life is about. While in Paris a tragic accident happens and turns Simon and Tessa’s world upside down. Will they give into each other and try to work it out? Read this heart wrenching romance to find out!

This is a really beautiful emotional romance. The author gives these characters and their lives so much depth that you are completely immersed in their story.
This is definately a story of a chance meeting turning into a romance that changes and consumes the lives of the people involved.
Simon and Tessa are so different that it makes the whole opposite attracts saying so true. Although as the story progresses their differences also causes them problems as Simon wants to settle down and Tessa is enjoying her jetting life too much.
Their story of meeting by chance and the subsequent meetings and leavings makes this story such a moving read. Your heart breaks for them everytime they part and makes you wonder if they will ever just compromise so they can be together.
It’s not a straight forward romance and with loss, and circumstances in their separate pasts that they need to work through you are always wondering if they can ever make this work or if they are doomed to constantly say goodbye to each other.
This was a very emotional read. My heart cried for them several times during the story and I wasn’t able to put it down. Such a beautifully written story and it was nice to travel the world with this amazing couple.

This is an enjoyable and lighthearted story about two characters who are polar opposites and yet forge a strong connection. The nature of this story allows you to get to know them slowly and watch their relationship develop. It was great to see how things progressed.
I thought the story was written well. It had a slower pace than some books I have read recently which was a nice change. This is a new author to me and I found myself pulled into their writing style with ease. I will definitely be checking out more books from them in the future.

The story follows Tessa, an impulsive author with commitment issues who meets Simon, a super-organised scientist who is eager to settle down. They’re both attracted to each other and decide to meet up every now and then in various places around the world until they inevitably fall for each other and each has to decide whether the other is worth giving up what they thought they always wanted. I liked this concept, but I didn’t get attached to the characters until halfway through the book. Neither of them seemed likeable at first, their relationship seemed awkward, it seemed to be purely about sex until the halfway point. At that point, you can see that they truly care for each other and are willing to sacrifice to make the relationship work. Of course, this is when everything changes. I was gripped when reading the second half, finding myself emotionally attached to the characters and not just Tessa and Simon, but Jacob, Riley, Liam, and Will, too. I recommend this book because whilst I didn’t get too attached to the romance aspect of this book – which is probably for personal reasons, and so a lot of readers will probably not agree with my opinion – the grief aspect had me in tears, and I could not put it down once I got to part two. I even cried through the acknowledgements. I also have to commend Anna’s ability to switch from past to present tense, and her portrayal of grief. I would love to read more about Riley and Jacob’s story. “Unfortunately, time is temporary. It passes. You have to live with what you have here and now. Contentment, acceptance—these things are hard to come by. But if you spend your life living in the past, you’ll never be able to truly appreciate the present.

So first off, the vivid descriptions in this story were off the charts imagery. I could absolutely picture the characters and the locations that were described in the story. This book was so sweet and just when I thought I had everything figured out, the author threw in a new twist that completely threw me for a loop. Tessa and Simon are absolutely amazing together and while I can’t exactly relate to the jet setting lifestyle they have, the relationship problems they experienced were extremely realistic. I literally couldn’t put this book down until I had finished the last page. I absolutely fell in love with the characters and definitely alternated between laughing and crying throughout the book. I have not read anything from this author before, but I will definitely be checking out her other books, I will just make sure to keep tissues handy. If you are looking for an amazing book that will leave your heart filled, this is a great book to check out.

This is my favorite book I read this year. The author wrote the story in such a way that I had to keep reading. The characters were not only relatable but so well written that at times I thought Tessa and Simon could be real friends of mine. The story starts in and air plane where Tessa and Simon meet each other but don’t have a chance to build a connection. If it weren’t for Simon making sure Tessa finds his business card in her purse.
A world traveling romance of two strangers who become so much more, that are pulled apart due to a tragic incident. Something that any of us could experience in the world we live in today. The connection and love shown throughout the story made me believe again. I’m looking forward to reading more books by this author!

This is the type of book that I expect in a summer read. It was well written, fast paced, and feel good. Reading it felt like I was sitting in the sunshine, while in reality I was in my bed. This book also in many ways is an opposites attract – where in no way should the characters click in real life but in the book it not only works but makes complete sense. I felt that their attraction for each other was palpable and they definitely had great banter that was enjoyable to read. I definitely recommend reading this book, especially as it makes a great beach read!

This is my first novel by Anna Gomez and it won’t be my last. Fast read, perfect for summer around the college courses I am taking as well as work…. neither Simon nor Tessa got on my nerves the entire book, which usually what happens when I read romance-like books. I enjoyed the little snippets of different countries and cultures they visit together, and felt overall the story flowed well without being overally wordy or too long, just the right length.

My favorite part was when Simon is trying to figure out technology to stay connected with Tessa- very funny lines throughout that part of the story! Looking forward to reading her other two novels.

Tessa and Simon meet on an airplane and things seem to stay up in the air between them for quite some time. Both are fairly successful in their chosen professions. Simon wants more out of life than Tessa does it seems. But are things really as they seem?

One truth about this book: I loved it!!

This book has a few twists and turns. It was a bit predictable for me as well, up to chapter 34 anyway. Then things changed but not as much as I thought they might.

I couldn’t put this book down until I read it all the way through though. Overall, a very well written story!

My Goodbye Girl by Anna Gomez is an angsty and emotional women’s fiction story about star-crossed lovers, and is not your ‘typical’ romance. The story spans several years as the two MCs continue to come together only to be pulled apart- and we follow along on all their highs and lows.
I was intrigued by the premise of the story- a practical and analytical scientist meets a more fanciful romance author- their chemistry draws them together, and connection and developing feelings ensue. But they have personal and professional obstacles that keep drawing them apart. What happens makes for an angsty and interesting read.
I really wanted to love this book more than I did, as I just couldn’t connect with the characters the way I had hoped to. But I will shelve this book to read again in a few weeks to see if I still feel the same way, or maybe discover that I was just having an ‘off’ reading day during this first read-through.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Anna Gomez!

My Goodbye Girl is the first book I have read by this author, and it hit me in the feels. So, make sure there are tissues at hand. It is a romantic story that had me hoping for more.
With vivid accounts of different places Anna’s writing makes it so easy to get caught up in the story. Add on top of that characters that are as real as it can get. I really wanted to like our FMC more than I did which made it hard for me to fully connect with the story. But having said that it still made me feel.
A chance meeting, hope and anticipation, hopeless love, divided hearts, separated by geography and one everlasting heartbreak.
It is a story where one has to ask is freedom, fame and success worth the price over love?
I look forward to reading more of Anna’s work.
If you need a good cry, then this is the book to help you along the way. If you love a romance story, then this is one to settle down with.

When Simon and Tessa meet by chance on an airplane their chance encounter blossoms from a friendship into a romance. The problem is that they live very different lives, in different countries, and are focused on their own individual success. As the love between Tessa and Simon grows, they meet in different places around the world until fate intervenes and Tessa must decide if she is ready for love. The writing is superb, and the author takes us on a rollercoaster ride of emotions as we anxiously wait to see if love will overcome all in the end. This heartwarming and at times heartbreaking romance with an opposites attract theme kept me hooked throughout. Romance author Tessa Talman and scientist Simon Fremont first meet during a flight and are instantly attracted to one another. As their relationship grows and their feelings deepen they continue to live in different countries, meeting in various places around the world. They both have different priorities, with Simon wanting to be financially sound and settle down, and Tessa wanting to enjoy her freedom and newfound success. However, they both find that each time they have to say goodbye it gets harder, and soon Tessa wonders whether fame is really the path to happiness. Just as Tessa realises that Simon is all that she needs to be happy, the unthinkable happens, and they are separated in ways she never imagined. In order for Tessa to move on she must not only let go of the past but must also determine if love is more powerful than the pain of saying goodbye. I was definitely taken on an emotional rollercoaster whilst reading this novel. The storyline flows well and I loved the connection between the main characters and felt very engaged with them.

What a really sweet romance. Simon and Tessa are so different. He’s a lab nerd and she’s a bestselling author. Yet, in the airport they come together and a “relationship” sparks. I found the story to be a nice slow-burn as these two total opposites somehow lit that Bunsen burner into a romance. I found the characters to well written. They were relatable. It made the story easy to read because you felt like you were reading about best friends. It could be me, I have friends that are that weird, lol. I loved how the story flowed even with it being a sporadic travel story. It’s a different type of romance that I recommend. I hope to read more from this author.

Anna Gomez was born and raised in the city of Makati, Philippines before she met and married her best friend who whisked her away to Chicago over twenty years ago.

Anna is a full time career woman who thought she could write a book about her life (The Light in the Wound, Christine Brae 2013) and then run away as far as possible from it. She never imagined that her words would touch the hearts of so many women with the same story to tell. Since then, Anna has released six more books under her pen name, Christine Brae.

In December 2019, her agent convinced her to write one more book. Different model, different subject matter. Clean, contemporary, happy endings. Reluctantly, she decided to give it a try. This time, under her real name, Anna Gomez.

When not listening to the voices in her head or spending late nights at the office, Anna can be seen shopping for shoes and purses, running a half marathon or spending time with her husband and three children in Chicago.

Anna is represented by Italia Gandolfo of Gandolfo Helin Literary Management, and is published by the Vesuvian Media Group.
