Notebook Mysteries ~ Suspicions (Notebook Mysteries Book 5) by Kimberly Mullins – Review by Tara Johnson Barnes

Notebook Mysteries ~ Suspicions (Notebook Mysteries book #5)Notebook Mysteries ~ Suspicions by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Suspicions is the fifth book in the Notebook Mysteries Series. Set in 1880’s Chicago, this book follows Emma as she continues honing her sleuthing skills and solving mysteries everywhere she goes. This story starts off with a bang as Emma is hit from behind by an unknown assailant who starts stabbing at her with knitting needles. Not faltering for a moment, she is able to take the woman down and grill her for information to aid her in solving her latest case. The woman who attacked her is the head of a nefarious crime ring and Emma interrogates her seeking leads to solve a child kidnapping ring.

As Emma, Jeremy, and friends follow leads to solve the child kidnapping ring and rescue the abducted children they begin to realize it is part of something bigger. As they work to save the children smaller cases pop up everywhere and they realize that it is all part of a larger crime organization. The cases keep leading them to someone from Emma’s past who is behind bars, but Emma cannot figure out his involvement. Somehow from behind the prison walls he is able to pull Emma’s puppet strings and keep her guessing.

This was yet another great book by this amazing author. Although this could be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the other books in the series first. They will help to provide background information on the characters and provide details that will add to the fifth book. The characters, the plot, the storyline, and the settings are brilliantly described and immerse you fully into the story.

This story, as the others, grabs your interest from the first pages and does not let go. I was on an emotional rollercoaster ride along with Emma as she fought to save the children from the clutches of the organized crime organization. I felt tears of both sadness and joy as Emma and Jeremy swooped in to rescue the abducted children. The characters are ones that I immediately felt a connection with from the first book. Especially the character of Emma, who is easily relatable with admirable qualities. She is feisty, brave, pigheaded, determined, courageous, and wise beyond her years. A great read full of mystery, danger, heart pounding suspense, and nail-biting action.

Notebook Mysteries ~ Suspicions (Notebook Mysteries book #5)Notebook Mysteries ~ Suspicions by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It is January 1889 and Jeremy and Emma have just been working on a case which has hit them hard, but as they are trying to recover, they are hit with another which is equally harrowing, so they have to use their combined skills and hope that it is enough to keep them together through the hardship of the investigation, but they have the Pinkerton detectives helping out. As they delve deeper into the investigation and uncover the horrors within it, the dynamic duo are split apart being needed in two different teams and while Jeremy is working one case, Emma finds herself called upon by a trio of families whom she has helped in the past.

In a rapid change of travel plans, Emma reaches out to reassure her family what is happening so that they can keep in contact and not worry like they always do when she is out on her own and so, Emma heads out to familiar ground where she aids three families with a problematic history with one man at its centre. With time constraints and the need to maintain secrecy, Emma works together with the families to solve their predicament and stay safe all at the same time.

When these cases are finally concluding, the family are all reunited under one roof and more than happy to be there where they can catch up on the latest news on the cases in relative safety and comfort and with what has been happening, Jeremy and Emma need this all the more. However, the familial bliss is unexpectedly breached as someone tries their darndest to become its latest member, but will they be able to come between this tight knit group and why do these cases all seem to point to something, or someone from Emma’s past? This is another fast paced mystery where nothing is as it seems and danger lies around every corner, as suspicions rain and the phrase crawling out of the woodwork is bandied around like candy as bonds are tested and relationships stretched to breaking point throughout this addictive read.

Notebook Mysteries – Suspicions is the 5th book in the series, but it is the first that I read. It is a historical fiction story with a very strong female lead in Emma, a brave and confident woman who works to solve different cases with help from her friends and family.
This book is action packed with multiple cases happening at once, and it keeps you on your toes. It brings all of the emotions as you join Emma where the past meets the present and she works to solve crimes and save several kidnapped children.
I had no problem following the story, even though I did not read the previous ones, however, I enjoyed it enough to make me want to go back and read all of them right away. I definitely would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a good mystery/sleuth story.

I made the mistake of not reading the earlier books first as initially I didn’t realise this was the fifth book in the series. Although I wish I had read the previous books first, I was still able to enjoy this instalment on its own. The important information was provided so that I didn’t feel like the key elements were lost on me which was great for me.

Emma and Jeremy have a few mysteries to solve so there is never a dull moment as they work to piece everything together, keeping you invested in their investigations and how the cases are affecting them. There are several twists and turns to keep you on your toes and if you love a good mystery, from this book alone I would recommend this series.

The author appears to have done research into the time period and uses that knowledge to paint a vivid picture of the scenes, bringing the setting and characters to life.
Emma is a strong character, her bravery and determination to solve cases despite the danger to help those in need is admirable. I think if I go back and read from book one I’ll get a deeper understanding of her development and liking her even more.

I look forward to going back and reading from book one!

The author really knocks it home with this one! Two previous storylines wrap up in this book. I really like how a former plot that was only so-so resolved, became well and truly resolved. Characters that have previously been on the bench, so to speak, get brought up to bat in this story. The author gives nods to history, with a famous detective agency, as well as bicycles, and the still-new automobiles. This book features a strong female protagonist, and loving family/chosen family bonds.

Notebook Mysteries ~ Suspicions by Kimberly Mullins is a great mystery/ criminal book series

The Pinkertons and Emma become embroiled in a heartbreaking case in January 1889. Emma and Jeremy struggle to support one another as they go through a difficult and emotionally taxing case that puts both their partnership and their investigative skills to the test. When that one appears stable, Emma, our brave detective, is forced to help three families who have contacted her. A central figure is a man they all know well. These two puzzles have a connection to Emma’s past.

Lastly, at home, a stranger with a troubled background who has infiltrated their small, close-knit family upends her sanctuary in a routine home life. Is he who he seems to be? The solution might lie in favor due. Criminal investigations, action, and adventure!

Every page was exciting and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen. It is a unique romance story. The story really brings passion into your life. I couldn’t put the book down.

Incredible story! Emma is a wonderful model to other women and girls. She is strong, independent, fierce but she is also caring, sympathetic, and compassionate. She doesn’t need a man to help her but recognizes when it’s welcomed. I could go on and on about Emma, she’s awesome. This story broke my heart in regards to the children, and seeing Emma and her team solve the entire case was so genius. There are three different cases in this book and the author does such a wonderful job of moving from one onto the next. The three cases are all so cleverly thought out and solved, the second case with the three women and the one man they all hate was my favorite to watch unfold. I have a strong feeling we are not done with see John Harden either. Wonderful book, I could go on and on with praise.

Book #5 picks up with Emma and Jeremy working to find missing children. Not just a few, but several dozen!

This series has not disappointed at all and I have quickly fallen in love with all the main characters. This one was heartbreaking for several reasons as a mom. As I said they were working to find a lot of missing children. Which of course Emma finds and rescues some herself and comes across one that lets her/them know that it was more than just being taken.

Then of course a case that Emma worked on a few books ago comes back. She gets the chance to work with some of the family again…. which leads to a better outcome for all involved.

Then there’s the case of the wife who murdered her husband. When someone eerily close to his description comes into the extended family Emma has created and surrounded herself with.

This book kept me on my toes because I couldn’t stop. I had to know exactly if my thoughts were right and what was going to happen those last few dozen chapters! Again this author has not disappointed! I hope there’s more to come with Emma and Jeremy!

Notebook Mysteries ~ Suspicions (Notebook Mysteries Book 5) by Kimberly Mullins. I have loved every book in this series and this 5th book is no exception. In this installment Emma and Jeremy are in the middle of a couple of cases and they are having to be in separate places most of them time. This is a new situation for them and neither are enjoying being away from each other. The biggest case is one with a kidnapping ring involving children. A local law enforcement officer’s niece is kidnapped and the Pinkertons along with Jeremy and Emma are trying their best to find her. In the middle of the case someone secretly sends Emma and Jeremy on a beach vacation. Its really nice to be able to relax for a minute but who would want them out of town at this time? Is the person who gifted this trip to them be the kidnappers? All of these books are so good and the writing is so good that I feel like I’m in the time and places of the books! Do yourself a favor and read this amazing series.

Notebook Mysteries ~ Suspicions (Notebook Mysteries book #5)Notebook Mysteries ~ Suspicions by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Suspicions is the fifth book in the Notebook Mysteries series. It’s a great series of historical mysteries, set in the late 19th Century. I would recommend reading the series from the start – it jumps straight into the action (quite literally – the first word is Emma being hit over the head) so you’ll need the earlier books to get to know the characters and past cases they’ve worked on. I love how we see references to the previous cases as people come back to help out, so to enjoy that you’ll need to have read the others first!

By this stage in the series, Emma is confident and has a broad range of skills. She’s had the chance to work on some of her weaker areas, such as using firearms, whilst still preferring to play to her strengths. She still has to face being underestimated, but can find that works to her advantage.

There’s plenty going on in the story, with layers of mystery to unravel. There are a bunch of interwoven threads in a well-paced book that balances tension with moments of safety and warm character moments.

This book gets five stars from me! I’d recommend the series to all fans of historical mysteries.

This is the 5th book in the Notebook Mysteries series. Even though each book can be read as a stand-alone novel, this book gives the majority of backstory of the characters, as well as more details into setting. I enjoyed reading this book. This is the fifth book in the Notebook Mysteries series and is set in early 1889. Emma, along with the Pinkertons, is back with an action-packed journey ahead of her and will face her toughest mystery yet. This book could be read as a standalone, but I highly suggest reading the first four, simply for enjoyment. Since book one, Emma has been one of my favorite protagonists, and I have loved solving mysteries with her. She is smart, brave, independent, and stops at nothing to find the truth – even when it involves her own family and well-being. This book will have you white-knuckling the book covers and flipping pages. It was a fast read and is definitely one of the better historical fictions I have come across.

Notebook Mysteries ~ Suspicions (Notebook Mysteries Book 5) by Kimberly Mullins – Review by Jamie Burns

Suspicions is the fifth book in the Notebook Mysteries series by Kimberly Mullins. This book took me back to my roots of being a bookworm sleuth. I have always loved mystery books with the first big series being Nancy Drew. This is one of my favorite series since then. Mullins grabbed my attention right away with Emma being attacked by an assailant who “stabs at her neck frantically with knitting needles…. They wanted me to talk to you first because I could keep you calm. Let’s start again.” This interaction was like a movie playing in my head. It felt so real, and the rest of the book flowed nicely with the same quality. From the very beginning, Emma has found herself in a criminal family starting with the old lady who attacked her. Will she be able to find all of the players linked to the missing children? Find out by reading Notebook Mysteries: Suspicions!

This author not only creates this amazing historical narrative but also provides a compelling list of characters. If you are gonna read this series it is best to start from the beginning and you won’t regret it as it is an amazing series! You can’t go wrong with one of this author’s books.

I have read several Notebook Mysteries books and this one was my favorite. They are all good, well written, thought out cases and good characters. Suspicions was a little more focused. There were 3 cases going on throughout the book but they were organized and tied in together. I love Emma and her bravery and wit, and sense of adventure. Her relationship with Jeremy has matured over the years, and I am happy to see her stick to her own personal morals and feelings. The ending was perfect, wrapped up all the cases and could be a good ending for the series. However, if the author chose to write more, I’d be happy as well. Seeing what Jeremy and Emma do on their next adventure.

Emma is at it again but this time it is to save the children that have been kidnapped! With the constant support and help of her family and her boyfriend Jeremy, Emma and the Pinkerton’s are able to locate and rescue the children including the niece of a local law enforcement officer. The mystery and intrigue do not stop there by any means! Emma and Jeremy are given a vacation by an unknown source for a week at a beach house and they are very excited and enjoyed the time away from such a terrible case involving the children. Who would send them on such a lovely vacation for free and anonymously? That I will not reveal! After vacation, Jeremy continues to wrap up the work on the kidnapped children, identifying them, and getting them home to her parents and Emma is summoned by a past acquaintance to come visit as she needs the help. Emma goes to her and helps her out along with two other women and their daughters. In the end, a debt was paid off from an unlikely source, a man was put behind bars, and Emma was successful at helping the women escape their marriages and difficult lives.
One of my favorite book characters is Emma. She is an extremely wise and insightful character and a total bada$$!! I love how the books by Mullins has strong female leads and a bit of history weaved in for a great read full of adventure, mystery, and a dash of romance. The setting in historical Chicago is wonderful as the scenes of traveling always take me away as I ride along whether by train, horse and buggy, or just riding a bike. I cannot recommend this book more highly. In fact, read the entire line of books by Mullins that have Emma as the heroine! You will not be disappointed!

This can be enjoyed as a standalone, but I recommend picking up the earlier books first. I enjoyed delving back into the life of Emma. This time she is busy with multiple cases going on. There is also the return of someone from her past. With everything draining Emma and Jeremy’s energy, they must battle the challenges. I enjoyed this series and enjoyed this newest addition to the series. If you enjoy mystery and historical fiction with a strong female lead, this is a great series to grab. Book 5 of this series was yet another impeccable piece by this talented author. If you are a fan of this series like me, you will thoroughly enjoy this addition. If you’ve never read any of these, you can easily follow along and appreciate the multiple levels of mystery and suspense.

We find Emma as strong and independent as ever at the beginning of this story. She’s ready to take action to help those who do not have a strong voice of their own, all while finding a case from her past is directly linked to the existing case.

Emma’s love, Jeremy is right by her side and raring to go to find the bad people hurting the innocent. While he’s always looking out for Emma, he is not attempting to be her knight in shining armor, as she can handle herself.

This book finds Emma facing multiple cases, heartbreaking journeys, heartless men and women who are trying to take advantage of others, tender moments with her love and a challenging interaction with an Alpha male thinking he can get the best of her.

This book did not disappoint!

I cannot wait for the next book to be released later this summer so we can see what Emma is up to yet again.

Just like the books before we have another great story. If you are a fan of suspense and mystery this is a great series to pick up. In this story, which is the 5th installment of the Notebook Mysteries Series, Emma is working on three different cases. The past will meet the present and relationships will be tested. Will Emma be able to solve the mysteries while keeping her relationship with Jeremy intact? Any one of these books can be read as a standalone but why would you want to only read one? The author does a good job of keeping you engaged in the story and keeping the characters interesting. I’m really glad that I picked up this series and took a chance on this author.
