Diabolical Sword (The Charm Collector Book 1) by Melissa Erin Jackson – Review by Rayne East

Diabolical SwordDiabolical Sword by Melissa Erin Jackson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hilarious fantasy adventure
I absolutely enjoyed this book. Such a fun read. Harlow was relatable and quirky with a strong sense of self. The storyline was original and well written. With a paranormal sword with a mind of it’s own, plenty of action and hints at romance there is a lot within the pages but the author delivers it with ease. A very strong series starter and I will definitely check out book 2.

Loved Loved Loved this finale of this series. The eldest in the family and the doctor. The author was so dynamic in her story telling of this book. I literally could not put this book down. As always you get glimpses of all your favorite characters in this book as well. The closeness and struggles that come with most families. This book will have you riveted to your seat as you wait for the next foot to fall. The author does not disappoint in any way. This is a must read. I’m just sad that these wonderful characters have come to an end. I could read about them for much longer.

The journey continues
The second part to Red’s story had me with goosebumps. What a terrific and well executed story. The author handles sensitive topics with ease and I absolutely loved how raw the emotions were. Red and Cher were such an awesome couple and it was great to see members from different chapters make appearances. A wonderfully worthy read.

Brilliant
What a fabulous children’s story with a wonderful message. Priscida is such a relatable character that kids (and adults) will easily fall in love with. The writing is easy to follow and the messages of believing in yourself and your greatness are so well delivered. With great illustrations this is a book worthy for a classroom or home library.

Thought-provoking psychological thriller
A very unexpected find, this book had me intrigued from the start. A bit of a mix between medical, religion and politics gives this story so much depth. The suspense is layered throughout and takes the reader on a roller coaster of emotions. With romance scattered amongst the pages, this book has it all. A brilliant book that caters for a diverse audience.

Strega – Magic: The Spirit Never Dies by Lynne Russell – Review by Sarah Vanscoy

Strega - Magic: The Spirit Never DiesStrega – Magic: The Spirit Never Dies by Lynne Russell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Strega- Magic: The Spirit Never Dies” written by Lynne Russell is a captivating historical novel surrounding an Italian family that uses magic. The first few chapters introduced many characters, which was a bit confusing for me at first and I struggled to get into the story. However, as soon as Annie was introduced, I was hooked! I truly admire the courage she had to make some difficult changes in her life in order to listen to her heart. The love story between her and Ian is very cute and her character was so strong and independent! Being Italian myself, I especially loved all of the detail given to traditions and descriptions of Italy! This was the first book I’ve read by Lynne Russell and I can’t wait to read more!

Practical, personal, and plentiful
This was a journey through self-reflection and discovery. Absolutely resonated with me about how quickly we can forget about basic self-care and get caught up in the guise of busyness. This cuts to the basic roots of nature and magic and reminds us all that we have our own magic that needs to be acknowledged and nourished. So much is held within the pages of this book and it is so eloquently delivered. A very worthy read.

Drummer's Beat (Satan's Devils #2)Drummer’s Beat by Manda Mellett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

WOW! Just wow.  This was an amazing book.  I will state that some sexual triggers in this book. This book is based on our main female character who is strong and stubborn and brave as can be.  She stays strong even in the face of brutal fear.  She is at the MC to meet her dad after her mother dies.  She wants to know him.  The surprise of being told he had a child years ago is a shock.  The story takes several twists and turns and your emotions will be all over the place.  This author has captured my love for MC stories and the worlds she has built even between chapters.  I can’t wait to read the next one.

A wonderful romantic story
A little steamy and a lot of soul-searching. Paisley and Caspian’s story was very easy to dive into and I was very vested in their relationship. Caspian was a very alpha, dominant male who has had opportunities to create a better life for himself while Paisley has had to struggle all her life. I loved the backstory and also the multiple POVs as the added depth made me feel so much more connected. A solid story for romance lovers.

Enthralling series
I just can’t get enough of this series. Absolutely attached to the characters and the whole world of realms. More often than not by book 4 I start to lose focus in a book series or I find the storyline starts to become stilted but that is definitely not the case here. Each book is refreshing and has its own flavour. Book 4 finds Vanessa on another mission for an untrusting goddess and navigating her new found connections with the gods. Romance, humour, action and mythology had me glued to the pages. I just didn’t want it to end and now I am eagerly awaiting more. So if you love paranormal stories, characters that you will fall in love with and on-point world building then this author and series is for you.

Shadows of Doubt (A Crawford Mystery)Shadows of Doubt by Merissa Racine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Book 2 finds Lauren free-lancing as a court stenographer after the events of Book 1, if you have the chance, read them in order to understand exactly what she went through.

When she finds herself temping with her ex-husband residing as judge over another murder in town, Lauren starts questioning staying on in Crawford… Even though she keeps trying to make healthy choices, continuing to work alongside the ex might not be one of them.

Romantic interest simmers along beside the twisting plot full of suspects and intrigue.. we keep hoping. Though you won’t get any spoilers out of me.

An excellent second book in what I hope will be just the beginning of many adventures for Lauren.

The best thing about this story, it had me rooting for the main characters!
Told from the point of view of a court stenographer, the author introduces a widening cast of likeable characters and believable suspects. I enjoyed the moral dilemma Lauren faces, privy to all the details of a crime, we have a front row seat to see how she manages that information.. intrigue ensues!!
This a great Book 1 of a promised series!

I so loved this series. So many answers revealed in this 4th book. All the main characters have obstacles in their way to overcome. The guys have their mothers to contend with and our strong tenacious lead character has her own task to fulfill. Quite a few surprises as well thrown in to have us cheering as well. The author has brought us full circle with a slight hint there could be a book 5. One can only hope. This series will keep you reading and enjoying every page. I don’t recommend starting in the middle of the series as you really do need all the backstory to really really enjoy these books. To the author, bravo on a wonderful book series.

Short and unique paranormal romance
This was a well written M/M paranormal romance. There is not much fluff as the author doesn’t drag the story out with unnecessary descriptions. It is a very unique storytelling style which I actually enjoyed. The characters were easily visualised and the storyline contained strong messages about discrimination and acceptance. I will definitely have to check out more of her work.

I love this author’s touch of originality on a classic tale! This is my first read for this author and I was drawn in and hooked within the first few chapters.

The author has a writing style that flows smoothly, creating a beautiful world and very lovable characters. I had to make myself take breaks from reading, this book is definitely a page turner!

This is an enjoyable read with a touch of steamy romance, as would be expected from the title. I look forward to reading more from this author!

Mystery and suspense
This story was an unexpected surprise. I haven’t read any of the other books in the series but it was easy to connect the dots with the other characters. I really enjoyed Brant and Aubrey’s characters and the romance was a slow burn sizzle. There was more mystery than drama which was a nice change. The writing and pacing was very good and I highly recommend for suspense romance lovers.

Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship (The Perfect Pairing Series Book 1) by Parker Fairchild – Review by Rayne East

Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship (The Perfect Pairings Series Book 1)Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship by Parker Fairchild
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

An afternoon quick read
This is a cute cruise ship romance. With Christmas cheer, Santa and Mrs Claus and hot Navy SEALs there was a lot of merriment (and drinking) going on. A couple of times I found the dialogue a little choppy and stilted especially between Olivia and Jace but this didn’t distract me from the story line. A light hearted romance with an abundance of Christmas cookies made this the perfect choice for an afternoon delight.

Although this is a young adult fiction, the characters and vivid world building really suck you in. There is great character developments and a page turning plot.

Depending on your reading speed this is a novel that can be enjoyed in a day; it is face paced and as a majority of it takes place over only a couple of days, it is hard to put down.

Looking forward to the next book in the trilogy, I need to know what comes next!!!

“Shadows of Doubt” by Merissa Racine is very intriguing mystery novel. Lauren is a court stenographer who freelances. Due to financial stress, she temporarily begins working with her ex-husband, the judge, while his regular stenographer is on maternity leave. As trial begins for a very high profile case, Lauren begins to doubt that the accused is guilty and begins to search for answers. This is the second book in the series, but can be read as a stand-alone novel. I enjoyed the character development and the mystery, and look forward to reading the other books in this series!

Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship (The Perfect Pairing Series Book 1) by Parker Fairchild – Review by Sarah Vanscoy

Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship (The Perfect Pairings Series Book 1)Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship by Parker Fairchild
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship” written by Parker Fairchild, is a very sweet and clean holiday romance story. Olivia decides to embark on a cruise in order to escape the Christmas holiday with her sister, who had an affair with Olivia’s boyfriend and is now engaged to him. Olivia feels sad and lonely on the ship, and after too many drinks tells the cruise employee dressed up as Santa Claus her deepest wish. This is where things took a very interesting turn. That night she meets and falls in love with a man, who has the same name as the character in a romance novel she is writing. He is a Navy SEAL, and the majority of conversations steer back to his career. I appreciated that the story brought attention to the difficulties our service members can experience coming back home. Overall the story was difficult to follow and was very unlikely, but it does put you in a festive mood! I enjoyed following along as Olivia’s personality completely changes from sad and insecure, to happy and confident. I appreciated the side characters, especially the elderly veterans, who added some sass and humor to the story!

One hell of a ride
I don’t usually go for MC type stories but thought I’d give this a go. Totally worth it. This book drew me in and kept me captive as the story follows Red and his rise to becoming Prez of the Satan’s Devils MC. There is a certain rawness to the writing that I absolutely loved. The author does an awesome job at developing the characters, with each one being so well rounded and unique. Cannot wait to dive into part 2.

Ashes of AldyrAshes of Aldyr by Russell Archey
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was an interesting read about “The Rupture”. The sky ruptures and evil is unleashed on the land. The story is told in a fashion I have not read before. Each chapter or portion of the book is from the experience of the characters at that point and time. Although you are switching and reading the stories of varying people, the author keeps the basis of the story at the heart of the matter. It all really does come full circle. Some of the chapters are very gruesome and disturbing. This was a dark fantasy that makes you think of the evils of the world.

Journeys Through TimeSpace (Journeys Through Book 2) by James Talisman – Review by S. Bittles

Journeys Through TimeSpaceJourneys Through TimeSpace by James Talisman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

As with the first book, Talisman’s original writing style will have you on the edge of your seat, trying to read faster than you can keep up.

I recommend reading this after reading the first book, and not as a stand alone. There is a lot of character development, backstories and different world explanations that are needed to understand to be able to fully enjoy this second book. Without a full understanding, you will not know the characters in-depth and their connections during the action packed “Journeys Through” series.

Again, I am captivated by Talisman’s vivid world building and character developments. This second book is just as interesting and page turning as the first, recommend read!

Journeys Through SpaceTimeJourneys Through SpaceTime by James Talisman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

New twist in the sci-fi genre, it is nothing less than action packed and captivating. Talisman has an extraordinary talent in writing for several characters and their narratives, which takes place between different worlds and points of view. There is so much to learn about each world and its characters in this complex but extremely well written story, it keeps you guessing as to what will happen next.

This novel is fast paced and will have you sitting on the edge of your seat edge wanting to read as much as you can in one sitting. I found I had to reread some chapters in order to keep each world and its characters straight in my mind.

Even among the many worlds and characters, Talisman uses such great detail that you really feel like you are there. You get a clear, vivid picture of each world and the details draw you in and hold you until the very end. With that being said, you need to take your time reading to ensure you don’t miss any details. Recommended read!
