This romance really had it all, I mean who doesn’t love a romance that you can pull for, great characters, and all of the cute adorable pets you could imagine? This book really takes you on an emotional roller coaster, as we watch Georgia grow and change well go from laughing, to crying, to wanting to throw the book. But in the end this romance is just absolutely perfect for either being the next read on your tbr or getting you out of a reading slump. Personally I have never read anything from this author before but after reading this one I will definitely be looking for more.

The KidnappingThe Kidnapping by Linda Burson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh, Jenna, can you find someone to love you for you? Will they love you for only your money? Well, looks like that jerk, Steve, chose option #2. This is a fantastic story. The kidnapping was a plot of fools from the beginning. (It was planned that way). I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard. Jemma is a fighter and very independent. She’s going give it her all. She and Andy seem to have found each other in the unlikely spot. They feel like a good pair that deserve that second chance. They are one couple you love to read about being happy. The story is well- written. The characters are well developed. Each one is so relatable. Jemma feels so real, as does Andy. I loved how well it flowed, even when a twist appeared, it just came back together. Awesome story.

This story mostly follows Lottie, a female lawyer working for a corrupt justice, and how her life intertwines with an historic murder trial involving gangsters and police taking bribes. Lottie is bisexual, but must maintain a conservative appearance for her job. Once the trial gets assigned to her justice, she and her friends begin working behind the scenes to uncover who’s behind a blackmailing plot to manipulate the court proceedings and outcome. The characters are fun and interesting, and I enjoyed the historical tale.

Linda Burson, a native of Pennsylvania, but long time Connecticut resident, has been writing ever since she was given a writing assignment in school, at the age of eight. Later, as a teenager, she started out writing memoirs and attempted several nonfiction pieces.

After attending college studying English, Psychology, and Business Law, Linda worked in positions where she wrote and edited papers for others. She spent time pursuing other interests, and traveling. Much of Linda’s free time was spent reading mysteries, romance, and women’s contemporary fiction novels.

After several attempts at writing nonfiction, but having life get in the way, she put her passion on hold again. She gave up writing to focus on raising her daughters, being a wife, running her own businesses and taking care of her dog, a Lhasa Apso named Nathan.

After a serious bout of breast cancer, Linda eventually closed her business after fifteen years. She decided it was time to attempt writing again. This time, however, with nothing to distract her, she decided on tackling fiction, a contemporary, commercial romance with a dark edge.

On January 1, 2013, she sat down with her laptop and started writing the first chapter. After a few more chapters, she realized the story wasn’t near complete. Before she was aware of it, her idea of a single book turned into a trilogy, which turned into a much longer series called the MARCY SERIES. There are a total of thirteen books in the series. Most of the series were published by a small publishing house. After the publishing house closed, Linda re-edited the series, gave the novels new covers, and self-published them.

When asked about inspiration, Linda has this to say: “Nobody really inspired me to write, but I do remember my mother and father always saying ‘anything you put your mind to you can accomplish. Don’t ever let anyone tell you, you can’t do something.’ Having the support and encouragement of my family is also important.”

Linda has also published a standalone murder mystery novel entitled, Murder Among Friends, a romantic suspense novel called, The Colors of my Life, and a short story as a part of a five-story anthology with other authors called Where There’s Murder, There’s Mystery. Her story is entitled, Lies Aren’t Forever. Another Romantic suspense called The Kidnapping has also just been self-published.

Gary Hollins is a mystery to Debbie Haring.

She’s seen him snap into action with bullets flying when their private detective assignments turned bad. It blew her mind.

He learned those deadly skills somewhere, and his grumpy-assed attitude, but whenever she broaches the subject, the shutters go up.

Gary only works when Debbie nags him. He’s content to survive on bad jokes and cheap beer wasting his days away in a West Australian beachside caravan park.

His past is behind him, far away in England, and that’s where he wants it to stay.

Then Debbie’s world collapses. Her beloved mum’s the first Bell’s Landing local to test positive for the killer COVID virus sweeping the globe.

She’s in despair, stuck in quarantine with her kids and Gary while husband Matt, her rock, is eight hundred kilometres away on a mine site. So, Gary turns reluctantly to the only thing that might distract her, his sorry tale.

And it all comes out. How he was cut from SAS recruitment just short of graduation, but a fringe-government organisation offered Gary a reprieve. If he could infiltrate a neo-Nazi hate group, they’d see he had a second chance at special forces wings. The impossible choices — ordered to participate in increasingly violent attacks, plagued with doubts about his shady handlers while his pregnant girlfriend tore her hair out over the lies he had to tell at home.

The story’s tearing Gary apart, but it’s all that keeps Debbie sane as her mum’s condition deteriorates.

To help his friend, Gary must face the demons that drove him from his own family.

Hollins & Haring #3, Gunner is a standalone mystery thriller set in Western Australia and London.

Borrowed Time by Lane Cohen – Review by Amber Howard

Borrowed TimeBorrowed Time by Lane Cohen

Borrowed Time by Lane Cohen was fantastic. A great mix of sci-fi and westerns. I enjoyed the lessons along the way. There’s so much that goes into stories of time travel. How one little decision can change everything. Should you tamper with the past and how does it affect the future? The characters in this story must face these decisions and deal with the consequences of messing with time. The cover art is beautiful and eye catching. I also enjoyed the quotes in between chapters.

If you are not reading these authors, I don’t know how to help you. This book just goes to show the continued brilliance of the authors. The drama, the characters, the intensity, the story….there isn’t much about this book not to like. Okay, so there were a few minor things, IMO. I like more dialogue between characters, but not distracting. The other thing was the way things ended with Gio. No spoilers here….just a little anticlimactic for me. I can see all kinds of reasons to do it that way, such as showing that Damian wasn’t like Gio, such as saving Damian’s soul. I totally get it.

FYI, totally love “Hus-Ben”!!!!!! That is the cutest, bestest nickname ever!!

4 Stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This romantic comedy was sweet and fun to read. I love the cover of the book and it drew me in instantly and a story that I needed to curl up to after a long week….

Georgia is a spunky, business owner of Celestial
Pets …. who also takes the world on her shoulders. Georgia tries to also help save a local pet shelter while making cute costumes for pet owners…while balancing a big increase in her rental space. Hudson Holm is all business… trying to clean up the aftermath after a fallout at the pet shelter and rent increases… while trying to take care of a cat named Oliver. When Georgia is paired up with Hudson for a social media frenzy that you need to use your pet while conversing… the fun begins. Hudson has Oliver the cat while Georgia has Cookie her dog. The banter back and forth….and not knowing they know each otherwise… what happens when Georgia finds out that Hudson is partly responsible with the rental increases and the pet shelter losing their space?

I loved Georgia’s character as I can totally relate trying to take care of everyone even at times of struggle.

I highly recommend this book!

Breathe Underwater is a mafia romance. At the beginning of this story, you learn about a mismatched companionship between Evelyn and Damian. Evelyn is tutoring Damian and the two build a young kinship of “romance” but it is quickly put out due to Evelyn’s controlling father. Her father convinces Damian to leave and never look back. Unfortunately due to the father’s weight within Texas, he is left with no choice. However, each one is left a little brokenhearted, not really understanding what has taken place. 13 years later, Evelyn is a professor and living an independent life, and Damian is moving back to Texas, the state that haunts his past. Damian is coming back, but as a different person with a new last name because he is working undercover as a mafia son. When the two of them finally meet again after so long, there is a lot of misunderstanding and confusion. Evelyn wants answers to why she was left so brokenhearted. She follows him to Italy, while he is there on business. She begins to learn that he is not the same person she once knew, but she still has a connection to him that she can’t let go of. This was a really good read! I wasn’t exactly expecting a sequel from the first book so this was a surprise. Some of the mathematics and science confused me, but overall it was very easy to read! I enjoyed being back in this little strange world that the two main characters happened upon in the first book. And according to the ending there’s going to be a third one, so I am excited to see how this trilogy ends!

There’s something about time travel books that always get me thinking. What would I do if I was able to go back in time? Borrowed time sure had me hooked. This Sci-fi story has so much depth to it – historical moments, moral consequences, action, relationships, and so much more. The characters were well written and easy to relate to because many of us wonder if time travel can really happen and if so, how might we make it better or worse by our actions. Breathe Underwater by Anise Storm & Taylor L. Ray

This isn’t the first book I’ve read by the authors. Breathe Underwater is a great read and I loved every minute of it. Everything was great about this book.

Damian goes undercover with the mob and there his life changes. Dallas is the last place he wants to be. The he remembers Evie. Can he let her go? The quote I chose for Damian is: “I can barely wait another second to get you into bed, baby. Once we get upstairs, I’m going to f*** all this restless energy out of me. Be ready because I can’t promise I will be gentle.”

Evelyn is missing Damian. Then she cleans out his parents house and has to go see him. When she gets there things change for the both them. The quote I chose for Evelyn is: “Hi. Um, I was cleaning the picture frames from your parents’ house and I found something. There was a small key taped to one of the frames. I’ve never seen one like this. I obviously don’t need it, so…”

Highly recommended for Dark Erotica lovers.

Hate You Later: Lit Lovers Series Book 1

I love Georgia! I picked this book because of the animals and they are usually the ones I tend to love the most. As much as I love Cookie and Oliver, they don’t get first place this time.

Georgia is not afraid of anyone, but will not ask for help. But that is the way people who had to grow up way too fast tend to be and that is something that connected us for sure.

Hudson isn’t as bad as I had thought at the being. Was prepared for him to be a rich jerk who throws his money in everyone’s face but that wasn’t him.

Georgia and her friendship with Kenna is a lot like the one with my best friend and that made me love them all the more.

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Hate You Later is the first book in the Lit Lovers Series. Hate You Later is a great read. I didn’t put it down until I was done with it. I didn’t realize that it was a fast read.

Georgia is a small business owner and going through a rent hike. She punches one brother and literally runs into the other. Then she realizes that her buddy is the one person she despises. The quote I chose for Georgia is: “I didn’t sleep great last night. Nothing that a little bit of Kenna’s coffee can’t fix right up. I see you’ve both met Emily?”

Hudson is back in town to clean up his step brother’s mess. Little does he know that there is more than one mess. He then meets Georgia and finds that he can’t keep his mind off her. The quote I chose for Hudson is: “Is there anything else I need to know about? Any other surprise ‘executive’ decisions you’ve made? You left me the contact info for the foreman and copies of all the documents for the permits?”

Highly recommended for Romantic Comedy lovers.

This was an fast paced intense sci-fi mystery. Dex thought the most difficult part of his life was finding a better paying job outside the car dealership and then a silver eyes man shows up. Little does he know that was the start of a series of life changing events. This was a book that made you wonder what else is out there and if there are other worlds. This was certainly a hard book to put down and each chapter brought more uncertainty. There was minimal character development but I really felt like I got to know each character and was rooting for their victory or loss. Ending was not what I was expecting and not sure if there are plans for a second book but it left it open to another.
