The Divine Devils (The Divine Devils Book 1) by R Weir – Review by Kayla Bullock

The Divine DevilsThe Divine Devils by R. Weir
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Divine Devils in the first in a new series by R. Weir. Hunter Divine, ex US Marshal, is contacted by an old girlfriend when there are several attempted kidnappings of her children. Happily married, Paige and Jose cannot figure out who, or why, someone would want to take their children. Hunter quickly assembles a team to provide around the clock protection for the family. But he is facing a formidable opponent who always seems to be one step ahead.

The Divine Devils is a really good story that is full of action. I really liked the characters and would have rated it higher, however, there were two glaring issues for me. First of all, the dialogue between characters was too stiff, not like people speak in real life. Second, the amount of detail in the story distracts from the flow of the novel. For example, we don’t need to know exactly what was on a sandwich the characters had. The level of mystery to the story was great and kept me guessing for the majority of the novel. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

The Divine Devils by R. Weir was a really good read! This book captured from the beginning and I didn’t want to put it down. This book is full of thrills, crime, and suspense. It was a fun thrill of a ride all the way through. This is the first time I’ve read anything from this author before, and I wasn’t disappointed. I can’t wait to read next installment for this series and more from Weir in general!

Something about this dark and ominous cover drew me in right away and I just had to know what the story was behind it. I am so glad I one-clicked and dove right in. I was immediately sucked into this dark and twisty crime thriller that took me on a ride that kept me up well into the night as I read further and further to know how this story would come to a conclusion. The best part of this book ending, and the only good part lol, is that it is the first in a new series from R Weir so we are bound to be getting a lot more of this dark crime thriller read and detective story line and I cannot wait! This introduces us to Hunter Divine, a former US Marshall with a whole lot of issues and a dark past that gives him all the reasons for the issues. He has the past revisit him when an ex calls on him for help. This is only the beginning of the drama and suspense. I won’t divulge more details because that would only spoil the fun but take my word for it, you won’t want to miss this one!

Although this was somewhat of a long book and took me some time to complete because life has been crazy and my reading time limited, I absolutely loved every bit of this book!! OMG I felt at times like I was reading a live movie that I was watching and could literally see all of this playing out. I could not get it off my mind when I had to put it down and rushed to pick it back up. The build up of this story was sheer perfection…I normally don’t want backgrounds and such but every word and every page was pulling me in more and more as the story progressed. My mind was going every which way through this book trying to figure out who was behind everything going on. I now know how far off base I stayed throughout LOL I have read enough books that now I suspect everyone and in this case I was on the edge of my seat realizing I was completely unaware of what was happening.

I especially loved the characters in this book. Each one with their own story, each one with their own quirks. I loved how they all came together as one and then the added in support just blew me away. I could go on forever talking about each of these people, each one important and all of them I hope to see again in the coming books. I love where this is going, and I have high hopes for this team growing even closer. I was left with questions of one character in particular and have so many ideas about how that could still play out in the future of this series. I hope there is much more to come on that character.

I am so so so excited for this series, I can not wait for the next (and I want one of those t-shirts lol) and although this is only my 2nd book by this author I will be reading anything and everything I can get my hands on.

I LOVED IT!!!

The Divine Devils: Mystery Suspense Crime Thriller: Book 1 by R. Weir is a wonderful crime thriller than will have you so engrossed that you find yourself at the last page before you realise it and it will be over before you want it to. R. Weir has a gift, and his narrative is superb and former US Marshal, Hunter Divine is the staring man and breaks hearts but when his past calls, he comes running. This complex plot is full of action, thrills, twists and turns and the danger is palpable and that makes this a great read and will have you on the edge of your seat.

This book is an awesome start to a new series. My favorite genre is crime/thriller and R Weir has become one of my favorite authors. His stories grab me from the first page until the last word. Every time I thought that I knew what was going to happen, there was a twist that went totally in a different direction. This just made me turn the pages faster and faster. In this story, Hunter Divine is asked by his ex-lover to help her with her twins. They have been targeted to be kidnapped and she wants him to help to keep them safe. He will try to keep them safe, but there is where the problem and the mystery/thriller take off. I highly recommend this story to see what happens in the end.

The Divine Devils (The Divine Devils Book 1) by R Weir – Review by Sherry Sharpnack

The Divine DevilsThe Divine Devils by R. Weir
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

TRIGGER ALERT: Kidnapping, gore, torture.
Hunter Divine is a gun-for-hire after losing his job as a US Marshal over an incident for which he was blamed, which was not his fault, of course. A former flame, Paige, calls for his help b/c her children are being threatened w/ a kidnapping by some unknown person. The action – often gory – starts immediately w/ an attempted kidnapping of the teenagers as they are on their way to school.
This book reads like a stereotypical action movie, where the men are men and the women are glad. The women are all tall and strong, even the teenage daughter. There are plenty of woman-on-woman fight scenes to add to the sense of this novel being a male fantasy. Many of the sentences are only sentence fragments, short and choppy. I don’t know if this was the author’s writing style, or if the Kindle formatting was just bad. There were a lot of incorrect homophones as well, as spellcheck cannot catch those. Plenty of clothing descriptions added to the above-mentioned issues distracted me from the plot as well.
There are all kinds of plot twists to keep you guessing as to the bad guy behind everything and his motivations, and the ending is can’t-put-your-book-down tense. I also liked the diversity of the characters. Therefore, I’m rounding this one up to three stars, even though it would usually not be my cup of tea for reading material.

The Divine Devils is one of the most intense and action packed novels I have ever read. While I have never personally read anything from R. Weir, The Divine Devils was such an amazing read that I will not hesitate to pick up more books from this author. This action packed thriller is filled with everything a reader could hope for including several twists and turns, suspense, crime, and above all adventure that will lead his readers a a wild imaginative ride. Mr. Weir’s characters are well developed and immensely relatable, his narrative is easy to understand, and flows beautifully through the story, and his plot line develops wonderfully through the book. So if your looking for a new author this summer, or even just a new book I highly
recommend The Divine Devils by R. Weir.

This is one twisty thrilling ride! I loved every second! I never knew what was going to happen next. The story and the characters are both unpredictable. There are many twists and turns that had me going “wait…what just happened?” I could not read this book fast enough. It really drew me in and kept me entertained.

The characters are plentiful but the main ones are Divine and his team. There are also those characters I love to hate. To pick a favorite character is tough. Valerie is cold and calculating but she also embodies strong female. I was impressed with the devotion Lance showed the family. Hunter is a strategically smart guy. I also liked the random “muscle guys” that were in here..they added some comic relief the second time we see them.

I enjoyed this intricate puzzle piece thriller. The author did an outstanding job putting this all together. I really enjoyed the very end of the epilogue. It rounds it all out nicely.

I eagerly look forward to more!

The Divine Devils is the first book in The Divine Devils series by R. Weir. This is a fantastic crime thriller- with plenty of mystery, suspense, danger, hidden agendas, investigation, intrigue, tension, violence, and action.
I love Mr. Weir’s Jarvis Mann Detective series, so when I saw that he had written a new book, and it’s the start of a brilliant new series, I couldn’t one-click fast enough. I also love that Hunter is quite different to Jarvis (from Mr. Weir’s Jarvis Mann Detective series)- bringing his own complexities, quirks and flaws to this new series. I was completely invested in the story, and the characters, right from the beginning- following along trying to figure everything out as the story unravelled.
Hunter Divine is a former US Marshall who comes with a lot of baggage. He moves from job to job, pay check to pay check, trying to forget the past- but not able to truly move on; self-medicating with sex and alcohol as a means to try to get by. He is definitely a little broken- but remains great at his job. So, when a former lover contacts him with an urgent request, he can’t say no. Her children have been targeted by kidnappers who have struck twice now- the children barely escaping the latest attempt. Hunter will need to dig deep and use all his skill and training in order to keep the children safe and figure out who is behind the kidnapping plots, and why the children were targeted in the first place. So, buckle up, and get set for a thrilling ride.
I know I keep saying this, but Mr. Weir has out done himself yet again! This is such a superb story that held me in its grip from beginning to end. It is a complex and multi-layered storyline, resulting in quite a gripping tale. I think it’s definitely one of the top three reads of his, so far!
Bring on Book#2!
Brilliant!

Thank you, Mr. Weir!

This is the first book I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. It is full of twists and turns that keeps you guessing from start to finish. You don’t know who to trust, and who is actually behind the plot to kidnap the  children  or the reason why? The author takes you on a rollercoaster of  ride as you work your way through with the lead character to try and work out who is out to get the kids before its too late.

I love how the author takes you in depth with all the characters with regards to their pasts and how they find themselves in the position they are in now. The main person of the Divine Devils is Hunter. His character is really well written. He’s no angel, he has a past that he isn’t proud of and things he needs to change to make his future better but is commitment to this job shines through from the second he takes over.

This book will have you gripped from the first page and with the fast pace of the book you definately won’t be able to put it down until the end. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

The Divine Devils (The Divine Devils Book 1) by R Weir. This is a really great read. Its the story of Hunter Divine who is an ex US Marshall who was let go due to politics and stuff way beyond his control. When an ex lover of his has her kids kidnapped he knows he has to save them. This person from Hunter’s past, a crazy painter who has now become very successful in business is the one that has kidnapped the kids to get at Hunter. Hunter must use every bit of knowledge he got from being a Marshall to try to find this guy and get the kids back safely. This book is a fast paced, with tons of action and lots of great characters from Hunter’s team. You have to pay attention to the details or you will get lost but this book kept me turning pages as fast as I could. If you love fast paced, action do yourself a favor and read The Divine Devils today!

The Divine DevilsThe Divine Devils by R. Weir
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Divine Devils opens with a dramatic kidnapping attempt of two teenagers: Olivia and Deion Hawkins. Understandably terrified, their wealthy parents will spare no expense in order to stop this heist. Enter Hunter Devine, ex-US Marshall and all-round excellent fighter and protector. He hopes to piece together the motives and identities of the assailants and stop them in their tracks. Hopefully in time to save their lives.

Hunter is a deftly drawn character, and I appreciated how the authour took time to lay out the nuances of his personality. Despite some questionable past choices, he is an easy character to empathize with and root for. The plot hums along nicely, with lots of action to maintain interest. I wanted things to be a little less ‘spelled-out’ for me as a reader… I felt there wasn’t enough room for a reader to wonder and make predictions. Despite that, it’s a solid crime thriller for fans of the genre.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If you like a mystery to solve, this is indeed the book for you. It is full of intense action, unrequited love, good guys, and the worst enemies that one would ever want.

Hunter Divine is a manly man, and every woman who meets him finds him very attractive including three women found in this story. The problem is Hunter does not seem to have a commitment bone in his body. Hunter is a “retired” US Marshall who works from job to job and sleazy hotel to sleazy hotel. He’s at a point in his life where he is tired of his life the way it is.

He doesn’t get much chance to ponder his status after his previous job because one of his former ladies, Paige, calls him in to help her family. Hunter learns that someone is trying to kidnap her children, 18-year-old Olivia and 14-year-old, Deion. Hunter agrees to help and calls in his team to increase the level of security for the whole family.

With each step the team puts into place, it seems that the kidnappers are always one step ahead. Can Hunter and his team keep the teens safe? When will they figure out who is behind this attempt on Paige’s family?

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Front Range Butcher is the seventh book in the Jarvis Mann Detective Series by R  Weir and is a dark, tense but witty read. Our main character Jarvis Mann is a man after  my own heart with his sarcasm. I found myself laughing out loud at those times but  often found myself on the edge of my seat as I navigated my way every step of the way  with him. R Weir did a great job at having so many plots on the go and intertwining and  never dropped the ball once. The danger, the thrills, the twists and the turns make this  a great read. Good work!     Can’t wait till the next book in the series!

The Front Range Butcher: A Jarvis Mann Private Detective HardBoiled Mystery Novel is by R. Weir. This is the seventh book in the Jarvis Mann series but can be read and enjoyed as a standalone book. Jarvis is a sarcastic but hardworking private detective who has gotten busier and more involved in his cases since the series began. His reputation as solving the mystery has made him highly wanted. This time he is involved in a case with a serial killer that dropped off many years ago. The writing and story are great and kept me on the edge of my seat at times. I like the character of Jarvis, he has a tendency to say what is on his mind and not always making fans of what he says. I had read another book in the series and enjoyed the progression of the character. It is possible to read and enjoy the book without having read the entire series first. I will be checking out more from R. Weir in the future.

The Front Range Butcher is book six (and the seventh instalment) in the Jarvis Mann Detective series, by R. Weir. This is a fantastic detective story, with lots of mystery, suspense, danger, a serial killer investigation, intrigue, tension, and action.
We have met Jarvis Mann in the previous books- and I just love this character and the series as a whole, so much. This book brings Jarvis his most dangerous and testing case yet. When a serial killer is back in action after a couple of decades, Jarvis is tasked with the investigation which will test him like never before, bringing lots of danger, as well as pitting him against a cold and calculating killer. In a race against time before the killer can strike again, with secrets, and hidden agendas- will Jarvis be able to bring closure to the case, once and for all?
Mr. Weir has out done himself yet again! This is such a superb story that held me in its grip from beginning to end. It is a complex and multi-layered storyline, which Mr. Weir expertly choreographed into a smooth and gripping tale. This has just taken the top spot as my favourite of the series, so far!
I can’t wait to read the next book “Mann in the Crossfire”!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Case of the Invisible Souls is the latest book in the Jarvis Mann short stories by R. Weir. This is a very short story about a Private Detective, Jarvis Mann, who has been asked to help a homeless vet find missing friends. What Jarvis finds is bigger than anyone thought possible but with Jarvis on the case no stone goes unturned. Weir focuses this story on the troubles, plights and lives of the homeless and in particular those of homeless vets. This short story definitely pack the punch when it highlights the poorly treated and often forgotten men and women who have fought for their country and have been left without the help they so desperately need. I would like to see Jarvis in a full length book but with this PI on the case together with his wit and charm, makes for a good read.

The Case of the Invisible Souls is a short story by R. Weir. The story is part of the Jarvis Mann stories. I was pleasantly shocked by a great story in such a short number of pages. I have not read any of the Jarvis Mann stories but truly enjoyed the story. I enjoy a good mystery and read this straight through to figure out what was going on in this page-turner.
