Alien Redemption is a adventurous sci fi story that I quite enjoyed. This is my first book that I read by this author and definitely will not be my last. I know never to judge a book by the cover so I took a chance being intrigued by the snyposis and I am so glad I did. My emotions ran up and down on this story….If you are a lover of sci fi, adventure, danger, lies and blackmail…I definitely recommend this book.
Claudia is looking for a new start while trying to stay on the down low. She approaches to wanting to be the medical attendant on a ship, but it comes at a price. Knowing Claudia is over qualified… Captain Bennet knows he got the better end of the deal… When a mission that is hush hush that leads to new species….will Claudia be able to stop the Captain and his deception and protect the new species.
Looking forward to reading more from this author….what a great story.

Recipe for Revenge mixes a little bit of suspense, a little bit of romance, and a ton of shenanigans to this recipe. April May, a small town reporter, has all the hottest topics to write about: a burnt down store whose owner is presumed dead, a burglary, and a missing person. She has also dug up some memories from a tragic accident that deeply affected her past and had to give up her foster dog whose owner magically reappears.
Recipe for Revenge is the second installment of the April May Cozy Mystery series. Despite being part of a series, this could be read as a standalone with no troubles. I have not sat down with a good cozy mystery in a long time and this one truly won me over. April is so relatable to me, especially her crochet abilities. And her love for Ralph, makes my heart happy. Hazel Smith really knows how to draw her readers in and keep their attention. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I enjoyed that the mystery was not only suspenseful but had a hint of romance thrown in. I will definitely get my hands on Installment #1 of this series and I look forward to reading other novels by Smith. Highly recommend!

I was looking for something light and fun to read while home for a long weekend when I stumbled upon Recipe for Revenge. I hadn’t heard of Hazel Smith before so hadn’t even thought to read book one in the April May series. Despite being the second book, Recipe for Revenge read well as a stand alone just as “advertised”. I never felt lost or confused and felt the story flowed well. I am not a huge dog fan (I know, I know) but I was shocked to realize how much I enjoyed the characters throughout, furry ones included. This was a great, fast paced cozy mystery that really hit the spot. I will likely go back and check out the first book in this series as well.

Another fantastic story children’s story from this author, I always enjoy reading her stories. She writes in a way that makes learning fun and interactive for kids along with fun life lessons. I enjoyed this short chapter book that kids of all ages will be able to read and like. I am always a fan of anything with Nessie, so this was definitely a book I enjoyed, Craig is trying to hunt down Nessie, but his little sister Linda keeps interrupting and getting in the way. I loved the idea of kids trying to hunt down the Loch Ness monster and the adventures they could have. The author weaves together magic, sea creatures, pirates, and great family lessons that are easy for kids to follow and enjoy. As a chapter book it has less illustrations than her other books, but the ones they have are beautiful. This is a story kids of all ages will enjoy!

This book is another great read from the Porter and Midge Children’s Book Series! With its fun rhyming story line, beautifully rendered illustrations, and well-thought-out activities, both your child and yourself will have fun learning about different ways to entertain your dog and yourself! I’m so happy I stumbled on this series as it will help me teach my grandchildren more about dogs, the responsibilities of dogs, and the fun they can bring to their lives.
This book in particular is a great reminder to all pet owners that you need to mix things up with your pets, so they don’t get bored, because boredom often leads to trouble. It talks about a great many things you can do with and for your pet that you will probably enjoy yourself as well.
Being a pet owner takes a lot more energy, knowledge, and time than people often think when they are caught in the moment of seeing a cute furry face. These books would be a wonderful educational starting point if your child or someone younger wants a pet. That way, you can make sure they understand what all pet ownership takes and are truly up for the task. I definitely recommend this series and can’t wait to read more of it myself

She also finds herself getting attached to an attractive vet in town and making close friends making her rethink her original get back to Chicago ASAP mentality. The April May books are meant to be stand alone books and can be read in any order. I did read the first book but I do wish I did so that I would have a better backstory on how and why she ended up in Laurel Lakes, but you definitely do not have to read it.

Cute yet intriguing murder mystery with a dash of romance. This is book 2; however, I read it as a standalone and I didn’t really feel lost at all. I enjoyed the mystery and suspense that Hazel Smith brought to us with the FMC April May, who seems to have some of the worst luck around. I also really enjoyed the dash of romance sprinkled throughout the book…nothing too heavy, but it was a nice touch. You can definitely read this as a standalone, but I am going to be going back to read the first one. Pick this up if you are looking for a lighter murder mystery with a dash of romance. Mission Improbable: Vietnam is part of the Blanche Murninghan Mystery Series. It is a historical cozy mystery that takes place in the year 2003, 30 years after the Vietnam War. The story follows the adventures of an amateur sleuth named Blanche who has gained a reputation for being determined to solve a good mystery. In her newest adventure she has been asked to travel to Vietnam to help a woman named Jean find her mother. As the two women spend time together, they discover they have a lot in common as they bond while navigating through the mystery surrounding each of their painful pasts. The author takes the reader on an emotional journey of self-discovery as both women try to seek answers and find closure. The characters of Blanche and Jean are relatable and the qualities of each are admirable. Both are strong, smart, determined, and driven to find answers. The attention to historic details fully immerses you into the story and makes you feel as though you are there. A great read with mystery, intrigue, secrets, adventure, family, and friendship.

I didn’t realize this was part of a series, so I read this as a standalone. While I want to go back to read the previous ones now because I loved this one, I wasn’t lost going through this one at all. I enjoy a good cozy mystery so this one hit the spot! This book definitely pulled on my heartstrings as Jean tells her story and Blanche listens intently and decides to help. Will they be able to find any answers, or will the questionable characters they meet put an end to their journey? The way the author paints the vivid scenery of Vietnam is amazing. I couldn’t put this one down and read straight through. Don’t pass it up!
I read a previous book by this author, but I loved this one even more! I’m a huge fan of the sci-fi genre which unfortunately means I find many books that seem to follow the same pattern. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this author created a magnificent adventure with detailed characters that I was immediately fully invested in. The single thing I didn’t like about this book was the cover. I almost didn’t pick it up because something put me off, but I’m glad I took the chance anyway. I highly recommend choosing this for your next read if you love sci-fi adventures!!

Claudia Zimmerman is a doctor, or at least she used to be before she was thrust out of her profession after being blamed for something which wasn’t her fault, all thanks to her employer wanting to save face rather than admit a mistake. The main drawback to this is that it has meant she has had to stay in hiding under an assumed name and not spending long periods in any one place.
As part of her disgraced status, she finds a job on a ship for medical personnel and decides it might be her only way off of the station she is currently in and escape her woes, however, that was not to be and instead she finds that the captain knows exactly who she is and what she has done, or at least been railroaded for. She is in shock and has no idea how to respond until the captain decides to go in for a little blackmail and threatens to turn her in if she doesn’t join his crew and so reluctantly, she does exactly that.
As the days and weeks pass, Claudia becomes more used to her situation and her role, as well as the challenges which come with it, including and almost permanent state of stress and anxiety about what the captain will threaten her with next, but she does her job well and looks after the crew. Normally, she isn’t allowed off the ship while they are on jobs, but one day, she is requested, and she knows full well that what she is about to do is something she will have qualms about. It turns out she is right, and her assignment is distasteful and downright abhorrent, especially when it turns out that the reason she is there, is for her to run checks on a new, sentient and humanoid species for a very specific purpose.
The more time she spends with these individuals, the more she comes to feelings of protectiveness and is loath to let the captains plan come to fruition, but will she be able to do that and stay alive while looking after these beautiful, birdlike creatures, or will she end up out of her depth? This is an epic sci-fi adventure full of plots, secrets, lies and revelations as one woman seeks to protect a new species from a less that positive fate while battling her internal mechanisms and biases, which spins a story full of unpredictability and emotional ups and downs throughout.

The Marcy Box Set contains books one through three featuring Marcy Jenson and her journey navigating trauma while facing reality through a different lense., Marcy is a business owner of her own cafe and has been dating Brad Preston for two and half years. The last four months she has been having nightmares that disrupt her sleep. When her best friend, Jill, mentions that her temper has even caused customers to leave the cafe, Marcy tries to dismiss it as everyone is being too sensitive. Brad dumps her after she shoves him during an argument.. The following evening, Marcy is held at gunpoint by a robber in a gas station. Thankfully, she has professional training and disarms the stunned gunman and beats him down. When the police arrive, she gives her statement and is trying to leave when she is accosted by news crews. She is approached by Liam who would like to speak to him in private. He tells her about his life and the trauma of losing his family and believes she can help him take on the bad people. On Wednesday, Liam gives her a gun and they take on a gang. Marcy doesn’t shoot one of them but hits them with the gun. At home, Marcy realizes she hasn’t checked her phone for messages from Brad. She listens to them as they become more angry that she hasn’t answered his calls.. Marcy becomes distraught and experiences a breakdown causing her to go to the hospital. Brad flies home and sees her at the hospital where he ends their engagement.. Liam had told her about a cabin in Vermont where he would teach her how to use a gun. She spends two weeks with Liam and they fall in love. Liam dotes on her, but due to his work, they have to keep their relationship secret. While she has been gone, Brad has been trying to find her. She continues therapy and is stuck with deciding what man she should spend her life with. With nobody to confide in, Marcy’s nightmares and confusion intensify. Dr. Bengali and Marcy have made several breakthroughs in her therapy. However, the revelations are certain to alter Marcy’s life forever.
Intense suspense builds through each book and there is a smooth transition between each edition. Marcy’s relationships are complex and dominate her entire life. Meanwhile, Dr. Bengali seems to be the voice of reason. Marcy is so codependent that she doesn’t miss a beat by running to Brad or Liam when she fights with one of them. While she can’t handle the thought of either of them being with another woman, Marcy doesn’t see herself manipulating them. She refuses to accept accountability for her own actions by blaming them for the predicament.

This was a very gripping sci fi read. The author has a great talent for twisting the story that keeps the reader guessing. The authors detail was another thing I loved as it really brought the story to life. I felt like I was seeing and witnessing everything the characters were. The first thing that gripped me was the story of Claudia Zimmerman. What had she done or been accused of that has led her to the dark depths she finds herself in now. When the captain of the ship blackmails her into working for him else he will reveal what she is running from, that was where I was completely gripped.. I wanted to know what she was running from.
When she joins the crew on the ship she is horrified at how ancient the medbay is and comes to a realisation quickly that the captain is a hard and ruthless man. Her plan is to do her job and stay away from him and off his rador. But that doesn’t last long when she is sent onto a unchartered planet and they find a new species. Claudia is so happy and can’t wait to learn all about them that is until she realises the captain plans on using them as slaves.
Knowing how he treats his crew and people she is determined for this new species to not meet the same fate but by standing in the captain’s way she is opening herself up to danger.
Can she save herself and her new friends? Or will the Captain destroy them all?
This story is fast paced and really gripping with twists and turns you don’t see coming. I don’t normally enjoy sci fi reads however this one really had me hooked and I couldn’t put it down

An enjoyable and engaging cozy mystery which kept me hooked throughout. Town reporter April May is new to Laurel Lakes but has already solved one mystery, and now has a second. When the local store burns down and the cantankerous owner is presumed dead everyone in the small town is talking about it, but when a threatening note appears alongside strange sightings April is asked to investigate. Unfortunately her foster dog Ralph who could have helped her sniff out some clues has been claimed by his owner. However, she dose have the help of her new friends and the town vet. April soon discovers a link between Ralph’s owner and the recent events, but also a connection to her own mysterious past. April has to race against time to find the culprit before she ends up hurt or even dead herself. This page turner had me guessing until the last page due to the plot twists and turns. The characters were likeable and relatable and I felt engaged with the main character, April May. The small town feel really came across in the writing and the descriptive narrative brought both the setting and characters vividly to life. I look forward to investigating other mysteries alongside April in future books.

“Mission Improbable” by Nancy Nau Sullivan turned out to be a surprise gem, considering I didn’t realize it was the third book in the Blanche Murninghan Mystery series. Thankfully, you can dive into this one without feeling like you missed a beat. The mystery plot is packed with travel, amateur sleuthing, family drama, and a good dose of emotions.
The Vietnam setting is like an extra character in the story, adding a cool layer to the whole thing. Sullivan’s descriptions of post-Vietnam War Vietnam are so vivid; you can practically smell the rice paddies and feel the energy of Saigon. Blanche is a stubborn but relatable character, and her sidekicks, Jean and Stick, add depth and complexity to the narrative.
Sullivan really knows her history, and it shows. I’m thinking about going back to read the first two books in the series. If you’re into mysteries with a side of history and a splash of travel, this one’s worth a read.
To start with – I don’t love science fiction and wasn’t too sure about reading this book. But, I’m glad I spend some time with it. It was pleasantly surprising. “Alien Redemption” by Gloria Oliver is a science fiction novel that takes readers on a thrilling journey through space and introduces them to the resilient and endearing character, Claudia. The author’s skillful storytelling weaves together a fast-paced story filled with drama, twists, and turns that will keep scifi lovers hooked until the last page.
Claudia, the main character, faces adversity after being wrongly implicated by her deceitful employers. As she strives to rebuild her life, readers empathize with her struggles and root for her redemption. She is what kept me reading.
The author does a great job of building a picture of a mysterious planet and its unique sentient alien beings. Her attention to detail brings the vivid colors and intricacies of the aliens to life. The contrast between Claudia’s genuine efforts to help the aliens and the captain’s contemptible actions adds depth to the narrative, eliciting a range of emotions from readers.

Overall, “Alien Redemption” by Gloria Oliver is a gripping science fiction novel that kept me engaged with its empathetic heroine, clever twists and turns, and cosmic mysteries. I normally don’t read a lot of sci fi, but enjoyed this one.
The story follows Claudia Zimmerman, a disgraced medical researcher who survives behind a mask after being set up for a career-destroying fall by her employers. Seeking a fresh start, Claudia hides her true identity and hopes to secure a job on a merchant vessel. Alien Redemption is a science fiction novel by Gloria Oliver. The story unfolds around Claudia, also known as Dr. Z, who is trying to find a way to make a living while hiding from her past under a false identity. Her options are limited, as avoiding a background check is crutial. An opportunity to become a medic on a merchant ship is in front of her, however the captain claims to know who she is and essentially blackmails her into taking the position. And Captain Bennett’s antics do not seem to end there. The Captain seems to enjoy showing the lengths his cruelty can extend to when they happen across an Avian race on a secret mission. How far will he go, and what can Claudia do to protect these beautiful creatures?
I really enjoyed the entire book! The pages turned and turned. I stayed intrigued and guessing. The character and plot development was spot-on! I definitely recommend for sci-fi fans who love a fast, but no less interesting read.

This book was well written. I definitely believe that you need to read the others in this series in order to fully understand what is happening and develop a true connection with the characters. One thing I found was my interest waning as the book went on. I just found myself trying to skip ahead.
However, the characters were well developed and so was the world. While I zoned out in some parts, others were great and held my attention. Overall, I would recommend this series; just make sure you read the others prior to reading this one!

This is the second part of The Savage Duet and it does not disappoint. This is a dark romance and has so much steam that I was left fanning myself while reading. It is so, so, so good. If you haven’t read the first book in this duo, I highly suggest you do that and then come back to this one. This way you have an amazing understanding as to what is happening. There are many twists and turns in this book. The ending is one that is left to where the author could continue with the story line or leave it as is. I can only hope that we will get more because it was that good. The many decisions that are made by the characters in this book show growth and deep character development. I love when a bad boy can do good things but doesn’t loose his edge. I found myself actually somewhat liking a few characters that I haven’t liked at all. The ending is what did it for me. This book was masterfully written and will have you turning pages faster than you can read them. You will be sitting on the edge of your seat at some parts of the book and flushing at others. I highly recommend this quick paced read because it will have you riveted from the beginning. Reviewed by: @bbohls

What a creative and magical read. My girls and I really enjoyed this book and the illustrations were great as well. Author is easily becoming one of me and my kids favorite! We read it the last few nights before bed time! Super fun read and fit for any age! Because I too enjoyed this!

Reading Alien Redemption by Gloria Oliver, I wasn’t entirely sure what to Expect but man! I was pleasantly surprised. This story got me from the first couple pages. although it does have some parts some readers could find hard to read(trigger warning). Other than that it was a fantastic read. I enjoy reading alien style books( I mean who doesn’t love them) so this author’s take had me interested til the end. Claudia is one strong lead female character, and Captain Bennet can go disappear please. I look forward to reading more books from Gloria Oliver. Ps the graphics on the cover are super cool, really drew me into wanting to read this.

The wait is finally over! I was so excited for this book to come out! This book takes place after the first book. In the first book I was not a fan of either Kingston or Carson. Towards the end I was slowly warming up Kingston but I wasn’t just quite there yet. I was so glad to see more of Ava’s character development in this book too. Kingston in this book we got to see more of his thought process and get more of a backstory with everything going on. I felt like it wrapped up a lot of loose ends and question’s I had. I still don’t like Carson and still think he’s the scum of the Earth. The word building in this was wonderfully done as the first one. The story progressed fairly well, and I didn’t have that “omg there’s only 50 pages left and so much left to be wrapped up” anxiety that some books give me. I loved reading this book and will definitely be adding it to my physical copy shelf along with the first one!

This is a cute chapter story about the Loch Ness monster. I like the magic Wickstrom brings to Nessie and through a child’s eye. The illustrations were colorful and appealing to see how they matched the story. For a children’s story, I’m not sure the conflict between the parents at the beginning is appropriate for a very young audience. It feels like the book has some scenes that would be for an older child audience. Other than that, I like the plot and the different viewpoint about the Loch Ness Monster.

So I absolutely loved the first book. I thought it was a great enemies to lovers vibe, forced proximity, full of denial for what the characters felt for each other. But good lord, was this book an action and smut filled absolute BANGER of a sequel! I felt myself falling for Kingston a little more and more as the book progressed, and the incredibly sweet ending had me tearing up a little. I absolutely loved and adored this duet. Please, read it! The author is phenomenal and I can’t wait to see what she does next!!

I knew a book about the Loch Ness monster would be a fantasy, but I didn’t think the book would feel so magical. Nessie and the Living Stone is a good beginner chapter book, which I also was not expecting. I have read a lot by one of the authors, and typically they are short picture books. I like that this book was a bit longer, with chapters, but still had the wonderful illustrations. I read it with my 8 year old son, and he struggled with all the talking. I ended up taking over the book, so I could read it outloud with different inflections of my voice. That helped him understand what was talking and what was narration. Once we got over that hurdle, we loved the book. My older 2 even sat and listened some nights.

I have read a previous work from the author, so I was excited to get to check out this new story and it did not disappoint! The author did an amazing job of weaving together a fantastic sci fi novel set in space with aliens, that will keep you reading until the last page. I absolutely adored Claudia, a hardworking heroine, who had a terrible hand dealt to her when she was set up to take the fall for her awful employers. She is working to rebuild her life, but things keep going wrong for her. It’s a well written book that is fast paced, action packed with drama, twists and turns. You really connect with the characters and want to see how the story ends.

This was such a good ending for this series. I really loved how the author developed the story line and drew the story to a really interesting conclusion. This story and series has so many twists and turns and everything happens at such a fast pace that as a reader you are drawn in and captivated by the story. I recommend this series and author to anyone wanting to read a fantasy novel with a twist.
