I haven’t read a steampunk novel for quite a while so I was excited to read this one and it didn’t disappoint. It’s a mix of mystery, historical fiction and the supernatural – right up my street.
What struck me first, was the world-building. The descriptions give paint a vivid picture which allow you to feel as though you’ve stepped into 1840’s France. It’s clear that a great deal of research went into the time period to make it feel more authentic. The main characters, two sisters named Jacqueline and Angelique, are also well-written as smart, strong characters powering forward in the face of obstacles to get to the bottom of their discoveries. I enjoyed how the author managed to meld several genres together, it was fun and enjoyable and kept me reading to the end. The romantic interests for the sisters were interesting and didn’t detract from the mysterious elements which was an added bonus.
I enjoyed this book and am glad I chose this one to step back into the steampunk genre with.

I love this series! Savage Truth was such a great end to Cole and Riley’s story. That doesn’t mean the author is done with Cole’s brother and cousins just yet. I can’t wait for the next duel set in this series. Now back to Savage Truth. Savage has more meaning in this story than just a last name. For example Cole is a savage towards Riley especially once he learns her history, despite how he feels emotionally about her. His mind says she’s the enemy and that’s where she will remain. What happens when the past becomes reality, how does that change him? Riley gets the bombshell of a lifetime when she had to move into the Savage household aka Cole’s house. These two are constantly at each other’s throats, yet there’s so much chemistry between them it leaves them both off balance. Riley wants to leave, has begged her mom a few times to no avail. Her mom insists it’s the safest place for them. Unfortunately her gut is telling her otherwise. What happens when dangers are near, can these two put their animosity aside to stay alert? I could go on about this book and series for hours, however that means I would spoil it and that’s not what I want to do. You want a YA romance, you got it! You want enemies to lovers, you got that too! Oh and drama, so much drama. These books will have you craving more. And you absolutely have to start with the short prequel that starts Cole and Riley down this path. This series is full of duets that can be read together without reading the others. In this case there was a prequel so there’s 3. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!

From the moment I read the blurb to this book I knew I had to read it. I wad hooked instantly and had to know about the story..I didn’t care that it was the 3rd book in the series and having read it I can say for sure I will be going back to read the others. It surprised me it was a YA book as I didn’t get that impression from the description but it really worked. I loved finding out about this world and the characters. This us a thoroughly enjoyable story and I can’t wait to discover more.

Not exactly enemies anymore but not exactly friends, Riley and Cole pick up where we left them. The sparks between them could light a small town but neither was willing to budge. Secrets are surfacing. As the tensions mount in the house, it appears that everyone is out for themselves except maybe their parents.
Things change when danger seems to creep around Riley from all directions. Riley’s father is really the bad man her mother has always talked about him being. When he pops up the first time, Cole stops something more from happening. Then, things take a crazy left turn when he pops up the 2nd time. Cole and Damon learn all the family secrets and what Riley has been hiding all this time. Cole, Damon and the cousins join forces with Uncle Ronan to make sure Riley is safe.
This series, especially this book, has been a roller coaster of emotions that keeps you on the edge of your seat and flipping through the pages. Until it ends, then it leaves you wanting more and missing your friends. This is the type of series that I just need to wait until they are all out and then spend the weekend immersed in their world because I can’t wait until I get to jump back into their Elite world again. I feel lost without them.
Read this one. Be sure to read them in order, but read this one. Read them all!!!

This historical steampunk novel had a fast paced and action packed storyline, which had me hooked from start to finish. There are secrets beneath the Parisian Streets and someone is willing to murder to keep them secret. Jacqueline Duval and her bohemian twin sister Angélique Laforge become involved in a mystery, when a malfunctioning automaton crashes into their locomotive whilst travelling on the new Paris-Orléans railway. Jacqueline who is a polytech and famed engineering prodigy is fascinated by the metal man, who she believes is powered by steam. However, she is shocked to discover that the automaton is actually powered by the supernatural. The sisters investigation leads them on a mysterious and dangerous adventure, where they learn of a plot to employ the dead to power a mechanical army, aimed at international conquest. The sisters receive help from unexpected sources as they try to avert the upcoming engineered war, but they may be too late. The descriptive narrative, along with the authors wonderful world building and the added historical details all ensured that the characters and setting came vividly to life, making me feel immersed in the story.

This book is amazing! I could not wait to start reading this after finishing the last and it did not disappoint. I had to know what was going to happen with this story. These characters are some of the best I have reads this year. They have such a strong connection and yet so much seems to stand in their way. I could not wait to see what the author had in store for them. I always really enjoy this author and these books have been some of my favourite. I have immensely enjoyed this series so far and cannot wait to see what is next.

Jacqueline Duval and Angélique De La Forge are twin sisters who are very much opposites, one loves the arts and the other engineering, but they have a bond stronger than any and would do anything for the other, no matter what the predicament is, or whomever may be involved. One day they are travelling back from Paris to Orléans, after an adventure and some of the usual repercussions when their train comes to a sudden stop in a meadow and the reason for this is baffling to those all around them. It seems that an automaton has crashed into the front of the train and nobody is able to shut it off, that is until Jaqueline gets in on the action and albeit in an unconventional way, does just that. When she requests that the machine is loaded onto the train, the others are impatient to leave, however, she insists on it and then remains with the machine for the rest of the journey, while her sister stays in a carriage.
Nothing further hinders their journey and the sisters arrive home to a warm welcome, a hot bath and a meal, only after she is forced to endure these things does Jacqueline go to her workshop, where the automaton is stored and begin working out how it is powered and to whom it belongs, however, before she can get very far, she is stumped by the fact that it isn’t powered by any natural means. The next day, Jacqueline decides to head back to Paris for some help with the mystery, but while she is there, her sister becomes embroiled in yet another caper, but this time it is through little fault of her own, but when Jacqueline receives word of this, she is determined to find her and work together to stop the mysterious person behind the machine.
This is not an easy feat and while the sisters are separated, they discover allies in unconventional manners and soon realise that there is a much larger plan afoot and that there is a link to the Paris underground, literally and secrets are revealed to show that the sisters past is deeply entwined within it, but how do the supernatural and mechanical mix and why is someone creating these automatons? Will the two sisters be able to reunite and uncover the mystery tying them all together before time runs out and disaster strikes? With enemies around very corner, magic, mayhem and engineering combine to create an intriguing and original mystery which will keep you engaged from start to finish.

I don’t think I even know where to start with this story. For many this will be an interesting read with many thought provoking moments but for me it spoke to me on a whole other level, a real personal one. I have a 3 year old non-verbal child and this story opened my eyes to how he may be feeling. I know he knows so many words but they just don’t want to come out like they should and I feel like I can understand this so much more now by reading this through the eyes Emerson. The way she describes the thoughts and feelings of Emerson’s parents was literally like reading some of my own thoughts. I was honestly glued to this story, it really was a very emotional and powerful read and I think is definitely a read for people who want to understand a little more about someone who is non-verbal. Thank you Molly Zenk for this book, its actually helped me more than words can say.
This was a very emotional book for me because I felt like the author looked into my life and wrote everything down. But it made me feel validated because as mothers and wives we often don’t get “seen” and that’s what Robertson does with this book…she sees you. I highly recommend this book. It often left me speechless because I just had a hard time believing that someone else could put into words what I had felt before. Truly amazing.
I really enjoyed this historical paranormal story. The author really took me by surprise with this book as I started to think it was just a historical story but there is so much more to it than that. The author has done a great job of researching which brings 1840s France to life in wonderful detail. This was a really unique read and I loved how historical and paranormal mixed together.
This is a story of two young women who come across a metal man after it runs into their locomotive. Jacqueline Duval is a very gifted engineer and when she see this creation she is amazing and wants to discover how it works but there is something else about this metal machine something mystical that also needs to be uncovered. With the help of her twin sister they set out to discover who is creating these mechanical men and for what purpose. What the sisters uncover leads us into a world where secrets are everywhere and things aren’t what they seem. Can the sisters figure out what is happening before its too late and a war breaks out? And what dangers will the sisters get themselves into buy trying to uncover this mystery? I really enjoyed this story and I couldn’t put it down. The writing and the characters were so engaging I had to read on to see what the sisters discovered.

I really love these stories by this author. Full of wonderful scientific knowledge for young children to learn throughout the story which is always beautifully illustrated. The stories are easy to read and definitely provide many talking points for children about what is happening as they read along. This book was a great introduction to magnets and how they can be used. In Alex’s case, our main character, a flying carpet! Another wonderful read and highly recommended.

This story has action and drama all in this fast paced read! I did not read the first 2 books in the series but still felt connected to the characters. The cover of this book caught my attention and the story was definitely intriguing. I really enjoyed reading about Caro and their story. The author created a very unique world for readers. This was a concept I have not read before and I really enjoyed it. I will definitely be going back and reading the first 2 books and looking for more from this author. This was an enjoyable YA fantasy read!

What a wonderful read this book was. Firstly I have to say I loved the title of the story, it certainly grabbed my attention and the cover for the book is so pretty. I don’t usually pay much attention to book covers but this one is lovely. This was a fun cozy mystery read and one that kept my attention from beginning to end. It was really entertaining to read. The main characters Naomi and Ella were great to read about and I loved Ingrid and Barbara too! I am so excited for this new series and if this first book is anything to go by its going to be a brilliant one! I can’t wait for book 2!

Breach of Trust is another wonderful novel in the Madeline Dawkins Mystery series. This is the eighth book in the series, but reads well as a stand-alone. Maddie and Mike are back again with their team working on three different cases. Each case is challenging, and one hits close to home for Maddie. This novel is full of suspense, action, well-written characters, and I couldn’t put it down! I highly recommend this book!

Its the story of Sera who is the daughter of the head of Space Force but because she was so tiny he fired her and ordered her termination. Her Uncle Garsett is the one who has raised her and helped her thru life but he has disappeared so she sets out to find him. Markus Engel who was once a space captain is the only person Sera can trust. Unknown to Sera there has been a bond set between her and Markus so she doesn’t understand the constant pull she has to him. He knows and tries to ignore it but its very difficult. When a informant steals their ship and leaves Sera and Markus stranded on Earth with no way to escape. This is a book of trust and having that trust without earning it. Suspicions is the fifth book in the Notebook Mysteries Series. Set in 1880’s Chicago, this book follows Emma as she continues honing her sleuthing skills and solving mysteries everywhere she goes. This story starts off with a bang as Emma is hit from behind by an unknown assailant who starts stabbing at her with knitting needles. Not faltering for a moment, she is able to take the woman down and grill her for information to aid her in solving her latest case. The woman who attacked her is the head of a nefarious crime ring and Emma interrogates her seeking leads to solve a child kidnapping ring.
As Emma, Jeremy, and friends follow leads to solve the child kidnapping ring and rescue the abducted children they begin to realize it is part of something bigger. As they work to save the children smaller cases pop up everywhere and they realize that it is all part of a larger crime organization. The cases keep leading them to someone from Emma’s past who is behind bars, but Emma cannot figure out his involvement. Somehow from behind the prison walls he is able to pull Emma’s puppet strings and keep her guessing.
This was yet another great book by this amazing author. Although this could be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the other books in the series first. They will help to provide background information on the characters and provide details that will add to the fifth book. The characters, the plot, the storyline, and the settings are brilliantly described and immerse you fully into the story.
This story, as the others, grabs your interest from the first pages and does not let go. I was on an emotional rollercoaster ride along with Emma as she fought to save the children from the clutches of the organized crime organization. I felt tears of both sadness and joy as Emma and Jeremy swooped in to rescue the abducted children. The characters are ones that I immediately felt a connection with from the first book. Especially the character of Emma, who is easily relatable with admirable qualities. She is feisty, brave, pigheaded, determined, courageous, and wise beyond her years. A great read full of mystery, danger, heart pounding suspense, and nail-biting action.

I loved this book! It reminded me of the writing of Delia Owens. Such fun twists and turns. I did not expect that much to happen. I couldn’t put it down though. What happened to Ridge? Was it really my father? How many more secrets are there?

Until that gets destroyed in a fire and now, she is left with nothing. Pick this up today to find out what happens!

White Picket Fences by Kyle Ann Robertson was a good story. Sometimes as a mom we lose ourselves along the way. Wanting only the best for our children and always putting them first. But we still matter. This story reminds us that it’s okay to find ourselves again. Grief is difficult and can definitely open your eyes or close them to what’s going on around you. I definitely connected to Julie and truly appreciate how Kyle wrote the story. Being able to feel oneself in a character makes the story that much better. I enjoyed the book and thought it was a wonder debut for this author.

I absolutely loved the third book, and can’t believe I went to book 2, but that still didn’t stop me from understanding what was going on. The characters are very well developed and written that it makes you feel like you are with them every step of the way and know them on a personal level. The worlds are so well written out that its almost like you can reach out and touch everything. The betrayals, conflicts, secrets, action, mystery, intensity of a world trying to be destroyed, while two brothers fight to try and stop it all. this book had so many twists and turns it kept me wanting more and on my toes. This made for an amazing all around read. this was a real page tuner, and I couldn’t stop reading it.

Euphoric Wonderland is a wonderful collection of Ryan M Beckers psychedelic poetry. These poems are inspiring, they make you think about life, peace, love, freedom, happiness. There’s reference to legendary bands like The Beatles and Pink Floyd, and a range of poetic techniques used that really make the poems flow which the reader can appreciate. My favourite poem was either ‘Euphoric Rhythm in My Mind: A Voice Inside it Screams to Hyde,’ ‘Dear Beatles,’ or ‘Dactylogram, Your Finger Ran, Quill in Hand, You Then Began.’ I recommend this book because I think this collection is a unique take on poetry and Becker is extremely talented to have created such a big, varied profile in such an original way. I would love to read more of Becker’s poetry to see what else can inspire him. I don’t want to spoil the poems but here are my favourite lines from my three favourite poems: ‘a secret you they thought they knew,’ ‘all the things that I believed weren’t real come alive when I listen to you, like happiness, love, and thoughts about my very existence all at once,’ ‘I don’t know how my thoughts would translate without you.’

5/5 Stars This is by far one of my favorite fantasy series. I have read all 3 books and I love all of them. The writing is excellent and I can really put myself in this world with ease. The character dynamic is done very well. I have truly enjoyed this series from beginning to end.

The Lone Star Child was a great book. The book had my attention from the very first page. In my opinion, it was a fast paced book. This isn’t my typical kind of genre to read, but surprisingly I really enjoyed it. The world building and characters was great. Madeline’s business is doing well and so is her relationship with Mike, working on cases together what could be better, but when she receives a distressed call from her father, she rushes to Monte Verde to see what is going on. Once there she is asked by the Director of the facility to help in a delicate matter of poison pen letters, these letters contain dark secrets which the residents would rather be left under the rock they placed them.
While putting her team to try and locate the mystery poison pen writer, Madeline is then drawn into a case involving a divorce relating to a woman whose husband is intimidating her to give up her right to the matrimonial assets. Madeline agrees but with her divorce she starts seeing the similarities and is threatened to have to relive the past to help the woman move forward.
Can the team help the care home to find the letter writer, can she be there for her father and help the young woman?
I have read all the novels in this series and this one does not disappoint. You can read them as standalone stories as the author weaves the pasts from the characters, but they are enjoyable stories to read as a series. I love Madeline and her determination and character to carry on from her past and find the love with Mike. This story is full of the usual twist and turns which I have come to love from a Madeline Dawkins novel with the pace to have you digesting the story at a rapid run to the end.
I hope that Cynthia continues to entertain us with these stories going forward and can’t wait to read the next on in the series.

I have to be totally honest and say that it took me a little while to really get into this book but at the same time when I look back I am not sure I can pin point exactly why. I know that doesn’t make sense right? LOL . I am really glad I persevered though because I did enjoy this storyline and these great characters created by this wonderfully talented author. Maybe I was just in a weird mood when I started reading it? who knows!! What all my rambling boils down too is that this is a suspense filled, paranormal read dealing with love and loss. As others have mentioned in their reviews the epilogue was fantastic and I’m so glad I got to read it. Give this great book a read. You won’t be disappointed.

Healing Kiss is the first book I have read by this author. I am not usually a fan of this genre but this book was well written and easy to read. The story flowed well and the characters were very likeable. Realistic events and happenings made the actions performed seem very natural and believable. I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for more from this author.

This is a great chapter book that tells the story of how awful middle school can be for those who are different. Silas is small for his age, due to a growth hormone deficiency. He is new the the school after having to move away from where he grew up – and that includes away from his best friend, his grandpa. As the new kid at school, Silas finds that he is an easy target for the bullies of the school. Unfortunately, that isn’t just the kids – it includes a teacher. He has to deal with all of this, while coming to terms with his Grandpa’s alzheimers diagnosis. It is a hard start to the year, but Silas finds his voice and his ability to stand up for what is right.

5 Stars Savage Truth (Hidden Valley Elite Book 2) by Isla Vaughn
Savage Truth is the second book in the Hidden Valley Elite duo and the conclusion of Cole and Riley’s story. I highly encourage you to read this in order as this book follows the characters and you will better understand what is going on. This is a Enemies to Lover’s Romance, high-school bully romance that once you start reading there’s no stopping until the end. I read this in one sitting because I had to know what was going to happen next. Hot dang if I was sucked into Cole and Riley’s world and went along for the wild ride. This story is packed with drama, hatred, revenge, secrets, bullying and romance. These two had me turning the pages and at times I disliked them and the next was rooting for everything to work out. All it took was for one kiss to put her on his radar. He couldn’t get her out of his head. These two are playing a very dangerous game of cat and mouse. Will they survive it? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I don’t want to give to much away but its worth the time. I look forward to seeing what this author brings us next.

Savage Truth is the third book in the Hidden Valley Elite series by Isla Vaughn and is the final book in Cole and Riley’s story. It is a New Adult (High School) enemies-to-lovers “bully” romance with plenty of angsty drama, love, hate, jealousy, lies, secrets, family dynamics, sparks, chemistry, and sizzle. I highly recommend reading the previous two books before starting on this instalment, as not only do the whole story foundations begin there, but we also get lots of other relevant details, character introductions, backstories, and other important information which you really should know prior to diving into Savage Truth in order to help you better understand and appreciate this book, as well as the series as a whole. As we discovered in the first two books- The ‘Elites’ are the top of the food chain at Hidden Valley Elite high school. They are brothers Cole and Damon and their cousins, twin brothers Phoenix and Shane. They are the football stars of the school and rule the school and social circles. But things get a bit of a shake-up when Riley moves to town. One kiss ignites a flame that won’t be extinguished. But there are things happening in the background that neither Riley or Cole could have anticipated- making things even more complicated, fueling the fire between them. The circumstances tested everyone involved (yes, I know I’m being a bit vague here, but that’s because there’ll be no spoilers from me). Riley and Cole have taken us on quite a ride- as their story isn’t a ‘light and fluffy’ read, and at times the darker moments seem overwhelming and hopeless….. but amongst the bad-behaviour, angst, drama, chemistry, sparks, and clashes, there was also lots of emotion, as well as some lighter, heart-warming, and touching scenes. And let’s not forget all the sizzling encounters that steams up the pages. But Isla Vaughn didn’t make it easy for them, she really made them ‘work’ for their happiness- and I think the end result is fantastic….and in my opinion, the best book of the series, so far. Each of the elites are set to get their own book/s as well, making for a longer series to sink our teeth into. So, I am heading on to Book #3- Brutal Days, the start of Damon and Skylar’s story….
