Savage Lies by Isla Vaughn – Review by Stephanie Tellas

“Moving to a new town and taking on a new identity was supposed to keep me safe. News flash, it didn’t. Instead, it put me right into the most dangerous place imaginable. Cole Savage’s line of sight.

Stupid, perfect, and one of four members of the untouchable elite. They’re the Academy’s football stars, gods among their peers. And from the first day of school, he put a target on my back. All because of one stupid kiss.

My secrets are dark and dangerous. But based on the fury that drives Cole to ruin me, so are his. We’re both facing destruction, and he’s determined not to let me win. He doesn’t know it, but he’s met his match. I’ll use his hate, and I’ll teach him that it burns as hot as his lust. And if he wants a war, I’ll give him one.”
Second story in the series, really enjoying the characters and the storyline, cant wait to read the rest of the series. Quick read, keeps your attention. I give this book 4 stars.

As always, the author has a way to pull you in from the beginning. It’s so easy to get lost in the story. The characters are interwoven in such a way that they all are in each other’s stories throughout the series. The backstories of each character in this novel, Riley and Cole, are really good yet sad at the same time. The characters are very relatable and seem to fit together before they realize what’s happening. I recommend that whenever you plan to read this novel, please read it in one sitting, that’s how great it is.

Cole and Riley are from two different worlds but find themselves thrust into the same world. They’re both cunning but distrustful which leads to a dark and heated book. Although this is the first book in the series, I am happy I read the prequel first. This books does a great job of instantly pulling you into the series; the prequel just answers some early questions. Be prepared for a constant page turning and an ending that leads you to want more.

I read the prequel to this book and IMMEDIATELY picked this one up. I am a sucker for enemies to lovers, but this is my first bullies to lovers series. I’m happy that I’m able to pick up the next one and keep reading the story. It’s a fast read, the main character is a very relatable teenage girl whose rival is the “King of High School.” I would say there is a bit of bully triggering in here but man, Riley handles herself like a champ. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a fast, but fun and exciting read!

The back and forth between Riley and Cole is amusing. Cole dishes it out and Riley just gives it right back to him. The secrets between them are just getting bigger and bigger. I read through the prequel and loved it. I devoured this book in record time. It’s not necessary to read the prequel, but it would be a great benefit. It made a lot more sense knowing the backstory. The cliff is high and the drop off the cliff is steep, But worth every second of. Isla has done it again with this fantastic book in the Hidden Valley world.

The story continues! I couldn’t start and finish this one fast enough. The author continues building the world around Cole and Riley, engulfing the reader in the story. The attraction between them is palpable, despite hating one another. They couldn’t be from more different worlds and they each have their own secrets, so what happens when they are forced to live in the same world?

The author crafts an intense, engaging read that keeps you turning the page. I quite enjoy the world building. There are times I read books set in high school that aren’t believable or read as if they are adults instead of teenagers and while these teenagers deal with adult themes, I feel like the author does a great job bringing in typical teenage issues that make the setting feel authentic.

I devoured this book and the author has me on the edge of my seat to start the next one!

***Trigger Warning: Bully Romance***

After reading the prequel, I couldn’t wait to read this. I really enjoyed getting to know Cole and Riley. Isla Vaughn does an amazing job at character development. Although not necessary, for best enjoyment reading the prequel adds to the background knowledge of the 2 characters.
This story is very fast paced and oh boy does it leave you on the edge of your seat.

This was such a good read! I just couldn’t stop once I’d started. It follows Riley, Cole and Damon, about a year I think after Savage Start, the prequel to this book. Riley’s mum and Cole’s and Damon’s dad are dating but nobody is happy about it. Damon and Cole are still angry about the death of their mum last year, blaming their dad so the last thing they want is another woman on the scene. Cole is suspicious of Riley and her mum and is determined to find dirt on them to split their parents up while also making Riley’s life hell in and out of school. It’s a great read with lots of twists and turns. There’s sexy scenes, funny bits, teenage drama and it’s just awesome! Already looking at getting the next one in the series. Highly recommend it!!

Somehow I managed to read The Hidden Valley Elite series and skipped book one. Until now. Savage Lies by Isla Vaughn is book one in the series, I’d say it definitely is necessary for following along in the next books (so don’t be me and think the prequel was the first book!) Riley is just here to make a new name for herself. She is running from something but clearly runs right into Coles crossfire. Cole is the best of the best, the top jock here at Hidden Valley High School. Well him, his brother and his cousins. Knowing you darn well should stay away from someone but feeling the tension between the two of you makes everything incredibly confusing and difficult. This book is crazy, but In all of the best ways. Since I’ve already read the whole series, I’ll just say it is DEFINITELY worth it. This was one of my favorites and I look forward to other books by Isla!

After reading the prequel novella, I was very intrigued to read more about Riley and Cole. This series is a quick read and very interesting. I would strongly encourage reading the prequel (Savage Start) before reading this book. It will provide so many details and background information about the significance of the interactions between Riley and Cole, the dynamics between Cole, Damon and their dad, and the story of what happened to Cole’s mother. Isla Vaughn does a great job of developing the characters and all the quirks and nuances of a story about high school students. I really liked all the layers of the story – Riley and her mom; Cole, Damon and their father; Cole and Damon’s cousins and their need to work hard to earn football scholarships and how Cole and Damon can help them; the elite clique of boys and girls at girl; and the connection between Cole and Riley. This was a good read and I look forward to reading more in the series.

In the prequel we met Cole and Riley. Both coming from different backgrounds, Cole was privileged and Riley was a thief who was always on the run from her psycho father. In book 1, Riley finds herself back in Cole’s town not understanding why because her mother and her never pulled a con twice in the same place. Riley finds out that her mom has a new boyfriend and wants to place down roots for real. The problem with this is Riley can’t believe her mother would want to do this because she has never acted like this before and Riley’s father was still looking for them. However, because she loves her mom she decided she will go along with whatever this is for now, especially since her mom was making promises she only dreamt of. What she doesn’t know is that she is about to get thrown right into the path of a cute guy she had a moment with a year ago. Throughout the book, her and Cole become enemies due to past circumstances, lies, and miscommunications. Cole has a lot of pull in school and the area and produces many enemies for Riley. They find themselves playing each other to make each one of them miserable, while actually having a lot of sexual tension. Once truths start to come out, so do feelings. But will the truths come out in time to save both of them?
If you love a bully and stepsibling romance this is a good one. These books are short, sweet, and full of entertainment. I enjoyed the story as much as the romance. Each of the characters was great as well. Because we have the prequel, it made loving Cole, even though the bullying, easy. You knew where a lot of the heartache was coming from and could also see how much he loved her at the same time. And Riley, well she was just badass. She had a soft side that was easy to love but also didn’t let people just take what they wanted. She stood up for herself, was cunning, and also sympathetic. This book does end on a cliffhanger and I enjoyed it so much that I immediately read book 2.

Savage Lies by Isla Vaughn is the first book in the Hidden Valley Elite Series. This series is comprised of duets following different couple. This book is the first of the duet following Cole and Riley. This story is an Enemies to Lovers, High School Bully Romance. The heat and angst are absolutely unmatched. The cliffhanger at the end is a doozie so be ready to jump right in to the second book. Trust me you will not want to put this series down. Five out of Five Stars!!!!

In all it’s a really good book and I highly recommend the series.

There are 2 covers I’ve seen for this …one makes me wish I was back in high school 🤣🔥 and the other is just beautiful and I don’t feel as much of a cougar 🤣🥰 BOTH are 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Having read the “ teaser” Savage Start I couldn’t wait to get into Savage Lies and I was rewarded 💥

Hidden Valley is no different to any other High School when it comes to pecking order we have the leaders and the followers .
Cole , Damon and their cousins are the guys every guy wants to be and all the girls want to be the arm candy of ….

So we pick up a year later with Riley starting at Hidden Valley , hoping this is a fresh start , she bumps into Cole , she knows who he is and what they shared but he’s got not glue but he knows there’s something that had him attracted like a bee to nectar … these 2 are off the charts 🔥

Cole just wants to finish school and get out from under his father and he has his eye on the goal until Riley and her mom come to town , again , the plot thickens when it comes to light that Riley’s mom and Cole’s dad are an item , wounds of loosing his mom are still raw and I feel Cole and his frustrations but poor Riley beats the brunt but make no mistake our girl gives as good as she gets , she’s no fading wallflower….

Be warned of the cliffhanger 🫶🏼

I absolutely loved this book! I do need to read the prequel to get the full story. I could not put this book down. Riley and her mom do not stay in the same place for long. Her dad wants to hurt her mom. They move to a town that they stopped at a year ago. On the first day of school, the high school God named Cole starts pestering Riley. Cole cannot forget about Riley. They shared a kiss at a party a year before. When he sees her after all this time, he starts picking on her . He can’t let anyone know that he has feelings for the new girl right off the bat. I’m ready to read book two.

Isla Vaughn has taken an enemies to lovers storyline and added suspense, fear, and lots of emotions! I did not read the prequel, Savage Start, but I did not feel as though I needed to in order to connect and understand the characters in Savage Lies. There are so many twists and turns in a relatively short book, but Vaughn’s world building and character development allow for a smooth story that I couldn’t help but be drawn into. I found myself simultaneously rooting for the relationship between Cole and Riley to grow and wanting Riley and her mom to simply move on. There is so much emotion between Riley and Cole and they have such an amazing connection with one another. Thanks to the cliffhanger ending, I now can’t wait for the second book!

Another amazing book from Isla Vaughn, putting Reily and Cole back at the spot where all begins for these two enemies and lovers to start their Senior Year battling to survive. But when the fire starts burning the desire does keep growing in Cole to find who Reily is. The funny thing that happens at that time is that their parents meet up and become very close to each other. I love this series where secret admires to enemies to lovers. I can’t wait to read the next book. Honesty I love the prequel because it helped me to see who they are and what will come of them.

Riley and Cole have incredibly strong feelings towards one another even if they are conflicted. Cole refuses to listen to reason when it come to Riley, but at the same time has a hard time staying away from her.

Definitely looking forward to the second part of their Duet for so many reasons, especially the answers to all of my questions.

Savage Lies: A High School Bully Romance (Hidden Valley Elite Book 1)Savage Lies: A High School Bully Romance by Isla Vaughn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

How can you crave someone so deeply and loathe them at the same time? This is what Riley and Cole are trying to figure out as their battle of wits encounters many ups and downs for each.

I devoured the prequel, Savage Start, where we first met Riley, the quick thinker who has grown up helping her mom with numerous cons, and Cole, one of the ELITES of Hidden Valley. It isn’t a necessity to read the prequel, but I would highly suggest it as it’s an enjoyable read that made me see a softer side of Cole than the one we see now. It also lets you in on the backstory of why there is so much tension and heat between the two. This book alludes to it but doesn’t go into specifics.

Savage Lies picks up one year after the prequel (Savage Start) when Riley moves back to the town of Santa Monica that Cole lives in. Cole isn’t your typical good-looking jock though he pretends to be, all he is trying to do is take care of his brother and cousins while evading his father until he can escape to college next year, but Riley and her mom throw a wedge into his plans. It’s barely been a year since Cole’s mom passed away, now his father has already moved on, which upsets Damon (Cole’s brother) and Cole tremendously. The tension continues to build as Cole takes part of his frustration out on Riley, though she doesn’t back down, proving that he might just have met his match. Be aware, this book ends on a cliffhanger that has me counting the days until Savage Truth comes out on April 27th, 2023.

Riley and her mom were always supposed to be on the same page regarding their cons. Not this time! It was strange to Riley that they would move to a city that they had once lived in before. The one good thing about being back was, hopefully, she would be able to kiss the huck from the last time they lived here.

Cole was the leader of his high school. He, his younger brother, and his twin cousins were the Elite and untouchable, at least that is what Cole thought until she showed back up. She was his downfall, but he would make her life a living hell for what her mom did to his family.

This was a fantastic page-turner. Once I started, I could not put this book down. I did not read the prequel, but I will be backtracking just for curiosity. I found another amazing author to add to my must-read list!!

WOW. I jumped straight to this book from the prequel, Savage Start, because I couldn’t get enough! This one gets a bit darker than the prequel so be warned. Riley comes from a family of people with constant ulterior motives, so she’s no stranger to blackmail. What surprises her is the attraction to Cole, one of the elite football stars in the Academy. It turns out that Cole may have some deep, dark secrets as well, and he’s trying to burn Riley before she can do the same to him. What he doesn’t know is how scrappy Riley is, so she’s not going down without the fight of their lives. Will their hate burn them to the ground, or will they cave into the lust they have for each other? All’s fair in love and war, right? I cannot wait for the next book because it can’t arrive soon enough. Isla Vaughn has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I highly recommend picking this one up if you enjoy the angst, lust, bully romance genre!

This is the official start of the college bully romance. We come back a year after the prequel and are once again met with Cole, his brother Damon, their elite gang of friends and Riley and what is left of her family. Now, if you did not read the prequel that is okay but it truly does give the background on why Cole hates and wants to take Riley down bit by bit. Truly a bully romance full of angst, hate, and just pure raw emotions, it left me wanting the next book, RIGHT NOW.

Savage Lies is the full length book in Isla Vaughn’s Hidden Valley Elite series and being new to the whole bully to lover romance trope, I really wasn’t sure what to expect. I read the prequel prior to Savage Lies and fell in love with Isla Vaughn’s writing style and was excited to see how a full length novel would progress. The storyline was dramatic with really complex characters and great character development, something I wasn’t really expecting but was so impressed with, despite a darker than anticipated nature. I was drawn into the storyline from the very first page and left hanging on every word by the end. I very much look forward to reading on in book two.

Ahhhhh! I love this series! I am not typically one to read bully romances, but this book has definitely changed my mind about them!

This is the first book in the series. But I highly recommend reading the prequel. It makes this book all that better!

I fell head of heels for Riley. She is an amazing character and super easy for me to relate to (even though I’m much older than her). Her dynamic with her mother pulled on my heart strings more than I thought it would! She has been through so much, but yet she is so resilient.

Cole, at first, I didn’t like him too much. He seemed super immature. While I understand his reasoning, I still thought it was just… eh. Like get the over yourself. Lol . But towards the end, he started to reel me in.

Now, the attraction and intense tension between Cole and Riley 🥵🥵🥵 wow. Someone needs to open the window because it was getting hoooottttt in here.

Definitely recommend to other readers, and I will be patiently waiting to read the rest of the series!
