A personal first for me by Scott Warren, this book is a TERRIFIC read!! It immediately sucked me in… and then I turned the page and it said chapter 1. I kid you not, I was instantly hooked and was ready to know what was going to happen by the end of the prologue. The entire time I read this I got Lord of the Rings meets Deadpool type vibes. The main character, Marluck, reminds me of Deadpool in his personality. This is an awesome adventure and the character development throughout is fantastic. I will be looking for more Scott Warren books in the very near future!

Oathbreakers Anonymous by Scott Warren is a great adventure story that leaves you wanting more.

Marluck had it all as the Goddess of Fate’s champion until his favor was revoked after a bizarre battle with a young god-beast. He somehow develops into an Oathbreaker, a fallen paladin who everyone despises. A phrase that most people never fully recover from. Marluck finds the Oathbreakers Guild after losing his abilities and being cast down to the level of the cobblestones, where he meets with other ex-holy warriors on a weekly basis to discuss their problems while drinking cheap beer. It temporarily aids. However, the siren melody of fresh support within the fold of his goddess is too powerful for Marluck to ignore when a stranger in the group talks of four holy spots where other Oathbreakers won favor once more.

Every page had you hanging on every sentence and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen. It is a very unique story with even compelling people. The story really transports you into this world. I couldn’t put the book down.

This is the first book I have picked up by this author, and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I was hesitant to start a fantasy/science-fiction as I have really been in a historical fiction phase and didn’t know how it was going to set with me – usually I hyperfocus on a certain genre and have a hard time getting back out of it. It was totally worth it. The way this author writes and uses humor in small details was such a breath of fresh air for me, and I devoured this book. I followed Marluck and his fellow paladins on their quest to redeem themselves and was never disappointed. This book is well-written and the characters are vivid. I had no problems finding relevance in Marluck’s story, and I can’t wait to get my hands on another book by this author!

I felt like I was transported into the coolest game of D and D ever with a twist! This was the first book by Scott Warren I have read but it will definitely not be my last! I really enjoyed his style and imagination. I love his characters, like Marluck, and I cherished his humor and heart. Oathbreakers Anonymous is fun, unexpected, and unique. Any lover of the fantasy genre would be remiss if they didn’t give this wonderful book a read.

I really enjoyed this book, I wasn’t really sure about it because I’m not a gamer or that big of a nerd, so I wasn’t sure how much I was going to like it, but it really surprised me, and I found myself devouring this book as fast as I could. It was filled so much with action, adventure, laughs, interesting characters, fantasy, and mystery. This story centers around the character Marluck who is on a quest or journey of his own to redeem himself, were he loses his powers, and goes down a spiral. He then ends up joining a group of unlikely characters called Oathbreakers Anonymous, and they try to regain their powers. This story line was very interesting and intriguing, the worldbuilding to it was very well put together that I felt like I was right there with them. I was hooked right from the beginning and couldn’t out it down, with all the twist and turns into the book I needed to know what was going to happen next. Recommend this book.

Wow what an adventure. First off let me just say I was totally fascinated by the cover so much so I jumped in head first. What I wasn’t expecting was to be pulled into a wonderfully world. This is a fairly new author to me but I’m a fan already. This is a Fantasy Adventure with a Sci-Fi feel at times. The characters are simply wonderful and made the story come to life. I had a lot of fun reading this book more than I imagined. Get ready for quite the quirky adventure where you will find yourself laughing o

Misplaced Faith. My biggest goal for this year was to discover new authors Scott Warren is a new one for me. The cover, while interesting it was the synopsis that made me say “why not”, as in give this book a try. Also, seeing the genre humorous fantasy gave me intrigue as I had never read or seen a book in that genre before. Being a gamer as well as a big bibliophile, I found that the game Neverwinter kept coming to mind while reading this book.
Paladins, no matter the race, are great warriors, fighting for their gods and continuously earning their grace and power. A great deal is known about paladins’ great deeds and victories over evil or darkness, but what happens to those that lose their grace, their power. Disappearing from history the author finds a way to fill in the blanks of history in this world. Marluck is a half-orc, who was a great paladin until the day he lost his powers. Lost and searching for purpose the newest oathbreaker finds a group of his fellow ex-holy warriors. An unfair punishment Marluck would do anything to get the “divinity” back that was taken from him, to return to the good sides of the goddesses. Hearing of possibilities to get back what he had lost Marluck will stop at nothing to reach his goals.
Will Marluck and his little group find a location in time? Is it truly possible to get his “divinity” back, to return to what he was before his fall? From page one I was glad I took a chance on this author and his world. The way the author not only writes but how he builds up the images in your mind of the world they live in. The good, the bad and the hilarious, I found myself smirking at the details. While the characters are not everyday men and women it was interesting to see how relatable the different races are to everyday real-life humans. I was even able to Invision people in my life as the characters bringing a little extra humor to the story personally. This book kept me engaged from start to finish, entrapped in the story and the mystery of how things would work out and come to an end. I hope to see more books set in this world and I will certainly be going back and looking through the authors’ other works just to read more of this talented author’s work.

This book isn’t what I expected at first. It was a little slow in the beginning but as the story went on it did pick up the pace quite a bit. The characters are very well-developed and they complement each other really well. I like how the characters are misfits and each has their own strengths and how their personalities are unique to their person. Also, the journey the group is on is not what I expected either, it’s very intriguing.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was initially drawn to this novel because of the title, I am, and always have been a massive nerd. I was playing D&D 5e before it was fully published and was still being called D&D Next. So when I saw a novel referring to oathbreaker paladins, I was immediately intrigued. The author did not disappoint, the main character was a half-orc paladin who called his club a ‘Smite Stick’. The novel kicks off with Marluck, the main character, losing his paladin powers and falling into a depressive spiral. Marluck ends up joining an AA style group called Oathbreakers Anonymous, and going on a quest with an eclectic group to try to regain their powers, in a scene that has fond echoes of LotR.

Once the plot kicks off, things happen at a breakneck pace. Which, while a good thing, is almost too much. We aren’t given any time to process what just happened before we are once again onto the next leg of the quest. That is honestly my only real issue though, the author did a wonderful job, made me like the characters, and made me laugh many, many times with all of their jokes and nerdy humour. It was very obvious that the author is knowledgeable of pop culture, the nerdier the better. You could tell immediately just from the references and jokes that made it into the novel, I even got introduced to my new favourite deity, Chocklar the god of hangry snacking. Chocklar will be a part of my D&D campaigns going forward for sure!

Marluck is a paladin of the Goddess of Fate and a good one at that, he was renowned for his strength, abilities and connection to his Goddess, he had fame, money and arrogance, or at least he was, while he was on his last mission to help a village being preyed upon by a God-beast, a mix of godling and wild beast who are more dangerous the older they become and during that battle, Marluck loses his Goddess’s favour, he loses his connection and everything that went along with it. Now, he is scraping by as an Oathbreaker, a fallen paladin who most people tend to avoid like the plague, the lowest of the low, how far he has fallen, but he is not the only one in this predicament, he manages to find others in the same situation, others who have fallen foul of their patrons and become Oathbreakers Guild.

While Marluck settles into life as an Oathbreaker, he becomes close to the others in the Guild as they share stories of their past lives and current woes while drowning their sorrows in cheap booze, but after one of the meetings, he is pulled aside and he is told of rumours about the possibility of redemption and a return to his position and he is more than tempted to do so. After meditating on his choices and deciding that he at least wants to try, he shares his plans with the others and not everyone agrees with him and fewer offer to go with him, in fact most of them deem him a madman, there are however, four others who decide to join him.

Fast forward to a few days later when the unlikely group have done their research about the possible holy sites where they can regain their deities favour, gathered supplies, settled any outstanding affairs and decided on a plan of action, the rag-tag group set off towards their first destination, but will they be able to find the redemption they desire, or will it prove to be a rumour alone and a wasted journey after all? This is a fantasy adventure which is a definite page turner throughout, as friends, enemies and indifferent beings combine into a humorous yet heart-warming journey of self discovery and entertaining mishaps which keep you hooked until the end.

The world is so beautifully crafted and vivid that I felt like I was on the adventure with Marluck and the Oathbreakers myself. Even if this doesn’t seem like your type of book, do yourself a favor and pick it up. You will find yourself enjoying it before you know what happened, so say goodbye to your to-do list for the day. I truly did not believe I would enjoy this book. I am so glad I gave it a chance. Never judge a book by its cover.. I should have taken heed to my own advice. I will always read the synopsis before buying a book from now on. I gave this book four stars is because I struggled to follow along in the beginning. I got about 40% of the way through before I was invested.

The plot, the characters, everything about this novel was entertaining. I highly recommend to any fantasy lovers looking for a new read!

Marluck was a paladin whose divine favour was taken away for reasons he doesn’t understand. He has become an Oathbreaker. He is found by a group of people in a similar position as him, and they form a guild. Rumours come of a way to be redeemed, so Marluck and some friends decide to go adventuring.

I really enjoyed this book! There is action, adventure, and so many laughs. The characters are unique and each has their own hilarious charm. Oathbreakers Anonymous by Scott Warren. This is not my favorite genre so I wasn’t too sure about this book but I actually loved it! Its so fast paced and it kept me up way late reading. Its a fantasy story about divinity ruling everything and without your divinity you are really nothing. Marluck was in good shape for a while and then he lost his divinity so he’s trying desperately to get it back. Going to the Oathbreakers Guild ( a place where people who have lost their divinity go to complain) and hearing all the talk Marluck hears there may be 4 places that they can find a key to regain his old life. Reading this book made me want to be friends with Marluck and I could relate to him so much. Its bad enough that Marluck has lost everything but he has no idea why. Will he be able to regain his life back or will he be a member of the Oathbreakers Guild forever? Read this fun, fast paced book to find out!

Want a story that will keep you up at night because you just have go know how it ends?? That is this that Book and so much more
Absolutely well done Fantasy finds you with Marluck who had it all, until he didn’t.
In this fantasy world divinity rules everything and if you lose it you lose everything. Those without their divinity meet in an anonymous guild called the oathbreakers guild and basically complain about their life with one another. Sure does it help to commiserate…yes but it wasn’t enough for Marluck, he wants his life back.
There are s
whispers that there are four locations that may hold the key to regaining all that they lost and Marluck and a few others can’t resist setting out to find them in a comical, colorful well done adventure.
This book is so descriptive, the characters are relatable and you can’t help but want Marluck to succeed. The dynamic, humor and sarcasm is extremely well done and I laughed out loud so many times. You won’t be able to put this book down!

Oathbreakers Anonymous by Scott Warren is a zany, madcap romp that had me hooked right from the beginning. It felt like a bit of a Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams epic fantasy adventure with a D & D flavour.
This highly humorous and unique story highlights Mr. Warren’s superb storytelling abilities, as he deftly weaves a fantastical action-packed adventure that takes us on a quest for redemption with a motley crew of quirky characters. What happens makes for a very entertaining read that left me wanting more of this world (and characters), in the best possible way. I hope Mr. Warren has plans for more works set in this ‘world’.
