The beginning does have a very slow start and in the prologue it does capture your attention to want to read more. It does take awhile to build up the plot. I like how the author puts a lot of information and details about the major and minor characters. Logan is very relatable and she has gone through so much. I love how the author uses and describes the scenery, it is very vivid especially at the art festival.

Shattered is book one in the Logan McKenna Mystery/Thriller series and my first read from this author. Logan’s life is falling apart around her. She has lost her husband to a car accident and sold her business to become a school teacher. Other teachers began accusing her of helping her students cheat, so now she might lose that as well. To try to escape from everything and get her head back in the game, she goes to South Cali for the summer. The fresh air and familiar faces will do her well….until a body shows up at the art festival she is working at. Now Logan McKenna has to help solve the murder to save her and her friend from false accusations. I love the strong female lead character quite a bit, and the story progressed well without too many slow spots or unbelievable moments. I still have 8 more books in the series to read so I am curious where it goes next.

In this book we are introduced to Logan McKenna and the recent activities of her life. Her life recently seems to be falling apart. Logan recently lost her husband in a car accident a couple of years ago and is put into the position of having to sell the business that she and her husband built. Since the sale of her business, Logan finds herself being called into being a teacher, everything seems to be going great until she is accused of helping her students cheat. Logan is appalled because she can’t help that she is such a great teacher, and her students are excelling on the standardized tests. Now Logan is a position that has her job on the line. Logan moves to California in hopes that maybe reconnecting with an important part of her past life might help her on her journey to rediscovering who she is.
Everything is going well, until a body is found, and her friend is being considered as a person of interest. Logan now has something to do that will help her try to forget everything that has been going wrong for her.
I loved this story and the amount of detail that Valerie put into Logan and her story. I am impatiently waiting to see what happens to Logan next and to see if she continues to find herself in unique murder mysteries.

Secrets, lies, murder with twists and turns along the way! Shattered is Book 1 in The Logan McKenna Series and this is the first book I have read by this author. I thought this book was very good, engaging crime thriller as I try to piece together a murder mystery and love to find out the “who done it”.

Logan McKenna is trying to move on her life after losing her husband two years prior and the aftermath. Picking up a job as a substitute teacher, Logan helps students learn who end up doing well in test, but the there are other teachers who accuse Logan of students and cheating. Taking a break in teaching and these horrible accusations, Logan decides to help at a local festival with her friends, unfortunately there is a murder at the glass blowing booth and Logan’s best friend, Thomas is accused of this crime. Will Logan be able to piece together and find out who the true murderer is before it is to late?

Read and find out! I love the female lead in this series and I am looking forward to reading more!

What a brilliant start to what looks like is going to be a phenomenal series !

So Logan and Jack were married and ran their their computer business . After he dies I. And accident she’s left settling debts and selling the business . She now needs a job and starts working at a school but it would seem that her job is under threat but she takes everything in her stride ….

She buys a small house at the beach in South Calafornia , she has friends there that partake I the annual otter festival and she’s going to help them at their stall and play her fiddle and wait for this she loves Edith Piaf ( like hello new best friend ) oh and she has a yummy Viking looking neighbour named Ben . He welcomes her to the neighbourhood with coffee , how sweet is this man !?

I enjoyed the way both the arts of knife making and glass blowing was explained and it really did intrigue me I even shared parts of the knife making with a friend of mine whose husband makes knives !!
I fell in with little Dimebox 🐾❣️ thank you Logan for giving the little fur ball another chance at life 🥰

Thomas and Lisa , married friends of Logan have their stall at the festival and she helps them , all things seems to be going well until a body is found at the glassblowers stall !
Thomas is a suspect and Logan isn’t having any of it and is determined to prove his innocence .

I’m keen to find out if things will develop between her and Ben but more I’d like to go for a drive with her in Lola , her ‘58 Corvette 😉

This was my first book by Valerie Davisson but I love a good mystery/crime story so was eager to read it. The characters in this book are original, believable, and realistic. Logan seems like the type of person I could be friends with in real life. She is independent, hard working, and sassy; and I’m all for it! The story was original, combining an art festival with a murder, death and blossoming love. Amateur sleuthing takes Logan on a roller coaster of emotions and many twists and turns. I was unsure who was the killer for the longest time! I did feel like the story kept backtracking a few times, repeating contradictory information, but these instances were brief and I was able to pick up the story pretty well after. Overall, a great mystery by a new-to-me author!

In this book we are introduced to Logan McKenna. Her entire life seems to be falling apart. She recently lost her husband in a car accident. She sells the business that she had build with her husband and becomes a teacher. She then is accused of helping her students cheat because they are doing so well on standardized tests. This means that her job is on the line.
She decides to move to the beach in SoCal. Near a very important part of her life of her childhood – the Otter Arts Festival. She decides that she will reconnect with her old friends and just relax and figure out her next steps. Well this is until a body is found and her friend is a person of interest. This gives Logan something to do other than think about everything that has been going wrong in her life recently.
I LOVED this story. I loved Logan as a character and all the chaos that she has been through. I feel that it made her even more likable. I loved the aspect of glass blowing as this is an art that has literally always been of interest to me. I loved everything about this book and I cannot wait to see more of Logan McKenna.

A great cozy mystery to get sucked in to. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Logan has great character development. She goes through an awful lot but doesn’t let any of it keep her down. After a lot of loss, she must find something to do with the rest of her life. This book is loaded with real life issues mixed into a fictional story. You can start to relate to the main character and you really start to care for her.

This was a really exciting read and one I thoroughly enjoyed. It’s a little out of my usual reading comfort zone but it was nice to read something a little different. The pace of the story was really good and the characters were well developed. The book was easy to read and follow. The authors descriptions in the story are pretty vivid so it was quite easy to imagine what was going on – probably not a book to be reading before bed I have to admit! The main character Logan was a likeable and I’m definitely looking forward to reading more about her in future books.

With her husband Jack passing due to a car accident, Logan McKenna must continue living and find ways to survive. Although teaching didn’t seem to pan out, Logan continues to find her place in the world. Maybe it’s through helping friends at their booth at an arts festival.
A dead body is found in one of the other booths and the police suspect Logan’s friend is the killer. Logan feels a great need to help her friend.
This book is well written and I enjoyed learning about the main character Logan. She’s a strong woman who cares for others and I can easily relate to her. The world building helped put the story together. A good mystery book and a new series I’m looking forward to read more books by this author.

A lot of the times they’re annoying but I absolutely loved Logan!! She’s been through quite a bit but that doesn’t stop her! Such a strong female lead and I’m here for it. If you want a good book full of thrill, suspense and murder! Read this! Now I’m onto the second book of the series!

Shattered by Valerie Davisson is the first book in this series and brings us into the world of Logan pretty quick. This book is a thriller and book took me a while to get into through all the backwards and forwards in timelines and people but overall was a good read and a well developed story.

The character of Logan did grate on me somewhat and at times I was a little lost as too her true purpose in her sleuthing but the overall who done it was good. The story had its twists and turns with the red herrings dotted throughout the plot and I did kinda have an idea of the murder by midway through the book but reading the way the author unraveled the story was brilliant.

I would recommend this book, it’s a page turner and does make you think. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series. I love a good mystery that keeps you guessing until the end. I love even more a strong female character that can hold her own. This book really fits these issues. Logan is a strong character and very relatable. As she digs in to finding a murderer and keeping her friend out of jail, she finds herself delving into the world of glass working. If you like a good mystery with a fast pace, this is the story for you. Can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in this series.

This is the first book in Valerie Davisson’s new, ‘The Logan McKenna Series’, and features recently widowed Logan McKenna. Following her husbands death, the loss of their company, and with her grown up daughter living away Logan is feeling as though her life is falling apart. Making a dramatic decision, Logan decides to moves away, ready to start life again. Logan joins friends Thomas and Lisa and helps them out on their booth at an arts festival, where she enjoys looking round all the arts and craft booths. Then one of the young glass blowers is murdered and her best friend Thomas is accused of the crime. Thomas Delgado, a Native American artist, is accused of the brutal murder and so Logan readily comes to his defence, but unhelpfully Thomas is refusing to defend himself. Logan decides to dig deeper in the hope of clearing her friends name but she soon discovers that the world of glassblowing is dangerous. Whilst still reeling with the loss and major changes in her own life, Logan discovers more and more secrets in her quest to clear Thomas name, meanwhile the real killer is still out there.
This was a page turner of a novel, a real crime, thriller, murder mystery, which had me hooked from the start. The storyline moves along at a good pace and keeps you guessing. I found the main character, Logan McKenna a very likeable and relatable, independent women who held the storyline together well. I look forward to further novels in this series.

Valerie Davisson did an amazing job with this thriller. Her plot line kept me on edge of my seat. There a couple times that I was caught off guard because I did not see it coming. The characters were complex and active throughout the book. I personally kept turning the pages faster and faster because I could not wait to see what was coming next. The one thing I really liked about this story is the main character, Logan is a woman. I enjoyed the story more because Logan was the one to try to solve this murder. Will she be successful? You will have to read the story to find out. I am ready for book 2.

Shattered: a Logan McKenna Mystery Book 1 (The Logan McKenna Series) by Valerie Davisson. I loved this book because its my favorite genre but also because the book was just really good. Its the story of Logan McKenna who is trying to get her feet back under her after her husband has passed away and her daughter has gone off on an adventure. She has bought a new house and things seem to be getting back to a new normal until one of her good friends is accused of murder. She had offered to help her friend Thomas Delgado at their Glass Blowing booth at a festival. Things are going great until a body turns up dead and Thomas is accused of murder. Logan makes it her mission to prove that Thomas is not guilty but when Thomas doesn’t want to help himself it makes it hard. Logan digs into the case and finds out all kinds of dirt and may end up getting herself killed before its all over with. Shattered: A Logan McKenna Mystery #1 (The Logan McKenna Series) By Valerie Davisson

This is the first book I’ve read by Mrs. Davisson. She did a wonderful job putting the book together. The characters are so life-like. It was like a movie playing in my mind.

Logan McKenna is a wonderful character and I’m glad I got to meet her. Her husband passed away, her daughter is off on an adventure, and she just bought a home. Things are looking up until one bad day.

Logan finds that someone has died and she takes it into her own hands to clear a friend’s name. Things don’t make sense and it confuses her to no end. What happens when the person who killed Elizabeth comes to Logan’s? The quote I choose for Logan is: “So, why did Thomas give Elizabeth $ 8,000? Had she found out about all this somehow?”

I highly recommend this book. It’s got mystery and a splash of romance. Valerie has done one fantastic job. I can’t wait for the next book.

I really enjoyed this crime thriller. It is the first book in the Logan Mckenna series. The story takes a bit of time to get into with all the different characters and how the plot jumps from one place and time to another but it is definately worth sticking with it as the story is a real gripping tale.

Logan has lost everything, since her husband death she moves and closes down their business. She is helping out her friends Thomas and Lisa on their booth at a festival when she notices the glassblowers. The festival runs smoothly until a dead body turns up and the question is who has done it.

When her friend Thomas is suspected she has to work hard to find out who the killer is and if they are planning to strike again.

Its full of twists and turns that keep you guessing right to the end.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and while this had some things I didn’t care for, in looking forward to the rest of the series.
Im a details person, I like to know a bit about where aa character is in a book but I felt, personally, there was a bit too much detail in this book. And I’m not a huge fan of back and forth in time, but again personal preference.
Otherwise I enjoyed this story, and it does pick up after a bit. I will say the details I enjoyed was we knew our characters, and pretty well too. Logan felt like a real, normal person and I love that when I can feel that with a character.
So in all, a good book, with a mystery woven into it.

Shattered is the first book in Valerie Davisson’s Logan McKenna series that introduces us to … well… Logan McKenna who has to rebuild her life after a tragedy that threw everything she knew about herself and her life up in the air. I think at times she feels like there is nothing there for her to fall back onto, she has to not only get a new place to live but also a new career. It was my first read by the writer and as I like a good thriller like most of us and I have been curious about Native Americans and their art then I decided to pick up a copy. The writer’s style as such was very reader friendly and it was surprising that the story didn’t pull me in as I would have expected. At times I did struggle with what time we were in and whether it was a flashback or present or … also I found it challenging to connect with Logan and the other characters. I also felt at times that the story slowed down too much and then got a jump on and rushed.
This IS the first book of the series and I am open to give it another try and go and read the second book as I liked that Logan was different from other ‘investigators’ I have met. She is not young or naïve, she has learnt from the challenges the life has thrown at her and she has had to step outside of her sheltered past.
I also wonder whether it was my expectations that got the best of me and I should have simply breathed in and the breathed out and gone with the flow …

This one is a struggle for me. The story has too much filler and background information. Which made it seem slow. I kept waiting and waiting for something to happen and it didn’t until about half way through the story. Logan seems like a good character but she doesn’t seem like a person who would try to solve this murder. It was interesting learning about the glassblowing and knife making.

This has some Flashbacks which I am not a fan of. Too much back and forth causes the reader(me) to become displaced and can lose interest. Sadly this story just didn’t work for me.

Shattered: a Logan McKenna Mystery Book 1 (The Logan McKenna Series) by Valerie Davisson. This story jumps from being slow and the pace picking up which made it hard to keep my mind from wandering. The plot is intriguing, but the mystery was a little lacking. The story also bounces back and forth between times and I found it a little disconcerting until I worked out the authors writing rhythm. I also found it hard to like the characters. I am sure many will love it, but it just did not grab me.

Logan was a character that I won’t soon be forgetting that’s for sure. She’s strong even after all she’s been through and I loved her defense of a friend in need. This story was incredible and I found myself on the edge of my seat more than once. “Logan tossed the letter back on her desk. She’d definitely landed in the City of Oz and was in dire need of a pair of ruby slippers.
Not for the first time this year, she wondered why anyone would work in the public school system unless they had a lobotomy or were working off jail time. It all started last October when, as a favor to her friend Bonnie, she’d taken a long-term sub job for a seventh grade teacher at Roosevelt Middle School in Tilcott, CA.
She’d spent the last two years since her husband Jack died wrapping up and selling the computer business they’d built together. The process had been wrenching. After paying off business debts—Jack had been more charmer than money manager—there wasn’t a whole lot left.
Truth be told, she needed the job.”

Shattered: a Logan McKenna Mystery Book 1 (The Logan McKenna Series) by Valerie Davisson is a murder mystery- with action, drama, crime investigation, art community elements, Native American characters and cultural references, and more.
This is my first read by Valerie Davisson, so I really didn’t know what to expect going into the story- but as I love a good thrilling mystery, I was excited to jump in and get going. I really wanted to love this book so much more than I did. It should have been right in my wheelhouse and should have grabbed me right from the get-go. But it didn’t. I had trouble connecting with Logan and the other characters- which in turn made it difficult to settle in and invest in the outcome of the story.
Parts of the story felt rushed- while other parts lagged, which really disrupted the flow of the story for me. At times I felt that the story got a little off track- making things a little confusing and I found myself re-reading parts to clarify where and what was happening. But, I have had a really busy and tiring week- so maybe it was just me- so I intend to revisit this book again in the near future, to see if I still feel the same way, or whether I was just having an ‘off’ day when reading it.
As it is the first book in the series, I would be interested to read the next book, or books- to see if some of the issues I had with this story have been resolved in the other additions. I did find the crime/murder part quite interesting, as with the glassblowing/artistic element.

Thank you, Valerie Davisson!
