Tales of Nick: Darrin’s Vengeance (The Tales of Nick Series Book #3) by Steve Wilhelm – Review by Angela Hayes

Tales Of Nick: Darrin's VengeanceTales Of Nick: Darrin’s Vengeance by Steve Wilhelm
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Darrin’s Vengeance is the third book in The Tales of Nick series by Steve Wilhelm. This is a story woven around revenge- it has action suspense, romance, drama, a little mystery, surprises and twists. This is my first book by this author, so I didn’t really know what to expect going in. I was intrigued by the blurb and the cover and so decided to give it a try. What I didn’t realise was the fact that it is the third book in the series and I probably should have read the first two books before starting on this one, because I did feel a little confused/lost by the story at times. If I had read the other books first this story may have been a lot clearer and so been a smoother reading experience. I had trouble connecting to the story and the characters for the first half of the book, and again I put it down to not having the information/ flow-on from the previous books.
The story has good writing, great characters and interesting twists, surprises and intriguing developments. There was a lot that I didn’t see coming and the author did a great job of twisting the plot. The story is told from alternating POV’s- so we get an added element of interest by having different outlooks/opinions.
We follow Nick and Gwen who look to be finally living the life they dreamed of. Nick has found the happiness he’s searched for, in Gwen. But ‘life’ has a way of messing with plans, and the past comes back to haunt them. With secrets and surprising developments that threaten everything they hold dear- what happens? What comes to light? How will they deal with the revelations and developments?
I recommend reading the first two books in the series before beginning on this one, as I made the mistake of jumping into this one without having read the other two books first and it made for a bit of a confusing time for me for the first half of this book. So, to avoid the same confusion and to have a better experience- read book #1 and #2 first!
The story continues into the next book, which I really will need to read to find out what happens.

Thank you, Mr. Wilhelm!
