This book reminds me of the books I use to read when I was younger(the artwork style, even the story plot),very nostalgic. I loved it. We usually read this author for story time at night. Which we always enjoy tremendously. It’s always a fun learning experience for them. There is always something you can take away from reading the author’s stories. Like in this we got ‘’ keep trying til you find a the solution ‘’ but your takeaway might different from ours 🥰🥰 can’t wait to continue more of Lois Wickstrom stories

This was an absolutely wonderful story to read with both of my kids, ages 8 and 12. Lois Wickstrom is one of our favorite authors, and anytime I bring a book home, my entire household gets excited! We go on such adventures, and this one was no different. The illustrations are a little different from others I’ve read before but still incredibly gorgeous nonetheless. The main character, Wynnie, is such a magnificent role model for a kid’s storybook. She is confident in herself and thinks a little outside the box, which is a great point to encourage in young ones. We enjoyed the creativity displayed in the book, and it sparked some great conversations in the house about our own ideas to problems we encounter. I highly recommend this for not only your classroom, but also to read at home with any kiddos in your life!

There are two Kingdoms, the Kingdom of Mir and the Kingdom of Sher and these Kingdoms have something in common and that is a Lion, each night, the Lion comes from Mir to Sher, however, the problem is that it eats the sheep which belong to the families who live in Sher.

One day the King of Sher announces a competition in which the losers have to give up their most prized possession and the winner will become his Royal Advisor and all they have to do is come up with a plan to “Stop the Lion” from entering the Kingdom of Sher, the solution has to be fair and all entrants must be able to carry out their solution immediately.

What solutions will the contestants come up with and who will win? This is an inspiring tale of the importance of thinking fairly, kindly and peacefully which is told in a charming and beautiful way and will make young children develop their use of imagination to think of what solutions they can come up with to the King’s problem.

When I was a kid, my grand mom used to tell me story about a sher, which wanted to eat a cow. But the cow said it has to tend to it’s calf and she will come back the next day. That was a story about trust. When I read this book, it reminded me of that childhood story. In this book, there is a lion which keeps crossing the border to eat the sheep. The king announces a reward to anyone who finds the solution to the problem. But when a little girl comes up with a solution, she is disregarded at first. But later the king allows her to try. This book is a reminder to everyone that we should not rush to judgement and anyone can make a difference no matter how little they are.

A wonderful story for the little ones. Loved it.

And the children shall lead them. This was such a fun story to read. Winnie wants to keep her sheep safe and also help the king come up with a solution. As the lion from the kingdom of Sher keeps eating the sheep from the Kingdom of Mir. As the King asks for help, many came forward but did not work. Reading the story will tell you what happens next. This author has such a great imagination. I really enjoy reading her stories. My grandchildren look forward to reading her books as well. The is always something to learn, discover, and talk about in her stories. We are looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

The illustrations of this book were whimsical and colorful. The story teaches how sometimes the best advice can come from the least expected place. It also teaches how sometimes, taking chances can be worth it in the long run. It shows how bravery and friendship is often better than fighting or causing problems. I think this is my favorite Lois Wickstrom book that I’ve read so far! Many of her books are among my favorites but this one really stands out.

Using the premise of critical thinking and strategy, this is the story of two kingdoms. One has sheep, another a lion. The kings want to be friends but the lion keeps getting the sheep. It takes a brave girl named Wynnie to make a difference in the lives of those in the kingdom. Patience and persistence do pay off!

This is such a great book to read to and to have read to you! I highly recommend this one for all ages! The illustrations are also very well done in this story!

Stop That Lion by Lois Wickstrom is a marvellous fable about asking questions, listening and creative solutions.
The main character, Winnie, a young girl, lives in a Kingdom with sheep. The neighbouring Kingdom has a lion, that has a taste for sheep. How can these two kingdoms live peaceably side by side?!
The King proposes a contest whereby the person who comes up with a solution to the issue that works and is fair to both kingdoms would become the King’s royal advisor, but if the solution doesn’t work, the King will take their most prized possession.
Several solutions are proposed that unfortunately fail, but Winnie has an idea. But first, she has to ask questions of the King. Will he pay attention to a child and answer her questions?
This is a very charming story, well told, with a good message that comes across without lecturing. The illustrations are delightful and add to the reading experience.

Stop That Lion by Lois Wickstrom is a children’s fantasy story with a bit of a fable/parable feel. Along the way it imparts some great lessons about problem solving, thinking outside the box, asking questions, finding answers, friendship, family, overcoming challenges, fairness/equality, and consequences.
With interesting and colourful illustrations, plenty of fun, some high stakes, thought-provoking situations, creativity, and adventure – which made for a great read.
The illustrations are cute and in a naïve style that suits the parable/fable-like story.
Looking forward to more from Ms. Wickstrom.
Happy reading…

What a cute book to read with the grandkids, we have become big fans of Lois Wickstrom. I love that each book has a hidden message that helps the kids learn a little extra about friendship and understanding and to always be willing to listen.

The Kingdom of Sher and The Kingdom of Mir are good neighbors, but there is one problem and that is a lion. Winnie maybe just a little girl but she has a great idea to help fix the lion problem but will the King listen?

The Kingdom of Mir had a lion. The Kingdom of Sher raised sheep. I’m sure you can anticipate the problems this can cause. The king of Sher proposed to the people that whomever comes up with a fair way to solve the problem of the sheep disappearing – any losing ideas, the person must turn over their most special possession to the king – but the winner will become his advisor! Several community members offer suggestions that don’t work out, and then along comes Wynnie, a young girl from the Kingdom of Mir.

Wynnie is the focus of the story and sets such an awesome example for not being afraid to pursue her ideas, take different approaches to find a solution, and believing in herself! This story proves that we should not discount anyone and their ideas or judge their capabilities. Not only do they solve the issue of lion and the sheep, but they all realize just how many ways each person is special and capable!

This is such a lovely retelling of the Lion and the Lamb story and it is written perfectly for children. It is an entertaining and loveable story that subtly teaches kids a great lesson. The way the author brought the characters and the story to life was amazing. Even though it wasn’t aimed at my age range, I found myself enjoying it just as much as my kids.
I am sure I have said it about this author before (and will certainly say it again) but this has got to be my favourite book of hers so far. It was delightful to read and I loved the enjoyment my kids got our of it. I would definitely recommend this story.

Stop That Lion: A Tale of Friendship, Love, and Peace by Lois Wickstrom – a favorite children’s author- is such a sweet children’s book! It’s got these gorgeous illustrations that remind me of the stories we used to read when we were little. The story follows Wynnie, this smart girl who wants to help her neighbors in the Kingdom of Mir because their sheep keep disappearing thanks to a sneaky lion.

What’s so cool about this book is how it teaches kids to be creative and think about others. Wynnie doesn’t just sit around—she jumps in to solve the problem, showing kids that they can make a difference no matter how small they are.

The pictures are so colorful and fun, and they really help tell the story. And the lessons about friendship and teamwork? They’re spot on!

I read this to my great nieces and she loved it! She enjoyed Wynnie’s adventure and even came up with her own ideas to help her out. It’s a perfect story for kids around 4 to 8, and I bet your little ones will love it too! Definitely worth adding to your bookshelf for those cozy storytime moments with the family.

This book hit all the feels for times long past. The beautiful illustrations the real-world lion eats lambs story all gave the feel of classic Disney golden books. Feeding on the reality that children see the world differently was center stage in this book. Crazy how only a little girl thought to ask questions about the situation in hopes of finding a solution that was fair to all. Wonderful book can’t wait for my next Lois Wickstrom book fix.

Stop That Lion is a good story for little kids. I read it with my 8 year old, and he enjoyed it, but i would say his age is the limit. My favorite was when I read the last page and looked over at him, and he was smiling and said she’s smart! The book is a take on the Lion and the Lamb story. There are two kingdoms side by side. One kingdom has sheep and the other has a lion. The lion keeps crossing over, and eating the sheep. The king asks for solutions to the problem, with the stipulation the solution must be fair. Several people fail, and then Winnie approaches the king with her solution. Initially, she is disregarded because she is a little girl, but she presents her case, and the king allows her to try. This teaches us that you sometimes need to rely on others when you’re in need, and should listen to all, without judgment. The illustrations are bright and colorful and aided the story along.

This was a story that taught about being creative and listening. The young girl learned to ask the King questions first so that she could avoid giving the King her sheep. She wanted to solve his issue. No one else had been able to so they lost their most precious item. She taught the King about friendship. It turned out that he wanted to be friends with the other King. By giving him sheep as gifts, then it became important to keep the Lion out of his kingdom also. The problem was solved. I really enjoyed how the story teaches about problem solving. The pictures are colorful and help teach kids. The story teaches a wonderful lesson. I definitely recommend it.

The story depicts some lessons for young ones as they learn about friendship, peace, selflessness and more. It will be a hit amongst children as it is original and different to other children’s books.

“Stop That Lion” by Lois Wickstrom is a charming and engaging story about solving problems through creativity and collaboration. The premise of the story, with the Kingdom of Sher’s lion causing mischief in the neighboring Kingdom of Mir, is both humorous and relatable.

The characters in the story, particularly Winnie, are endearing and relatable. Winnie’s determination to save her pet sheep, Paley, and her kingdom is admirable, and readers will root for her as she navigates the contest to Stop the Lion. The King’s willingness to listen to Winnie’s idea and give her a chance to solve the problem showcases the importance of listening to diverse perspectives and working together to find solutions.

The message of the story, that fair solutions and teamwork are key to overcoming challenges, is conveyed effectively through the entertaining plot and well-developed characters. The illustrations by Carol Thompson complement the story beautifully, adding depth and visual appeal to the narrative.
