My own fault I didn’t realize it was part of a series and I wish I would of read the others first but that’s okay! That did not take away from the fact that I still loved this story. I love everything that I have read from this author so far and this was no different. Also, paranormal romance sign me up.

He has since started up his own company where he hopes not ou employ other companions, but to give them a safe work environment. However, he seems to be in over his head being buried in paperwork and interviews. It has given him far less time to spend with Lark which makes them both unhappy. Now companions are starting to go missing and Jaru has been warned that his are next. Will Jaru be able to keep everyone safe? This story was fun and engaging. I will be going back to read the three books before this one to get a better understanding of the characters.

View all my reviews

Such sweet moments sprinkled in. This is book four in the Life is Hell series and like the others it can technically be read as a standalone but once again it picks up after the events of the previous book. Dual perspectives of Jaru and Lark. Jaru is determined to give contract companions a safe place to work. Following the attack in the previous book, Hell in a Handbasket, Jaru starts his own agency, Devil’s Delights. Only shortly after finally starting up warnings begin to appear, notes and phone calls. Contract companions are disappearing, and his boys are next. Lark is the last of his grove and surprised to still be alive and now finding his newfound loneliness too much as his best friend is no longer around as much. Thanks to his secret portal system he is faced with an emergency that shows Jaru and Soren one of his abilities that he has kept secret. Having experienced holding hands and finally his first kiss Lark is willing to do what is needed, even helping Soren cook dinner. Lark and Jaru learn together as Soren helps. But everything is different and the chaos never waivers. One attack was stopped thanks to Soren’s guards, but the mystery remains. Who is attacking contract companions? How long can they keep the warnings secret from Teivel? Does Jaru finally discover what love really is? This world has such a hold on me with each book. While I loved the previous books and was glad to finally get into Teivel’s head each new pair is so unknown, their history, wants, and feelings that each one pulls you in as you watch them grow with each other as the pages fly by. So many sweet moments happened in this book that just makes you say aww, and route for Lark to learn how to be a good boy and for them all to find happiness. Now book five, A Cold Day in Hell, to finally learn what happened to Hadassah and Jezebel after the chaos in book one with Delilah and Malakhi. Can’t believe it’s the end already love Juniper Lake and seeing the gang grow together. See you there.

I absolutely pounced on this book as soon as I saw it! This author is one of my favorites, and I know better than to pass up any of her work. This series has been phenomenal to say the least. I recommend reading the series in order to gain full experience and interaction between characters. I’m not sure how the author is able to fit such an incredible storyline with well-developed characters into a shorter book, but she has got the magic touch! The flow of the story is natural, and the chemistry jumps off the pages. We get to catch up with Jaru, Lark, and Soren who all have such a wonderful connection with each other. I won’t give anything away, but I will highly recommend picking this book up and getting lost in it for your afternoon!

This is the 4th book by Naomi Valkyrie the the Life is Hell Series. You can read this alone but there’s such a benifit from reading them in order. This time we get to learn more about Larkspur and Jaru. If you like imps, demons, adventure, and romance, this might be the book for you!

After Jaru was treated poorly in the past by previous “masters”, he decided to start his own business for companions to make sure they are kept safe. Jaru knows he has a lot to take on but with the help of Teivel and Oren, he can do anything he sets his mind to. When trouble starts appearing within the business, Jaru doesn’t want to be bailed out like always. He wants to prove to himself he can do this… alone. He hires Soren to keep an eye on the boys under his management.
Lark misses his best friend. Now that Jaru is always gone, Lark finds himself lonely and bored which is a bad combination for him. Boredom leads to mischief and mischief leads to getting in trouble with the other housemates. Lark decides to start hanging around the office with Jaru. As they get to know each other better, they start to cross over the line of staying platonic.
Jaru has very little self esteem so he is constantly questioning himself and as a result is questioning whether he is good enough for Lark. When threats towards Lark come to light, Jaru must find a way to keep Lark safe while fighting his own inner demons.
This book is book 4 of the ‘Life is Hell’ series and although it has less action than the previous books, this one was my favourite. Jaru is riddled with self doubt and anxiety making him feel unworthy which hit close to home for me. His anxiety gets so severe at times that he starts getting manic. Lark at first seems like a childish adolescent when you are introduced to him but as time goes on, he starts to mature into a caring, strong, independent and powerful being. I was happy that Jaru had a chance to find his happily ever after.

Sure As Hell is the fourth book in the Life Is Hell Series. It is a polyamorous, MM, friends to lovers, slow burn romance with drama, danger, mystery, suspense, action, magic, paranormal elements, and a touch of humor. If you have not yet read the previous books in this series, I highly recommend that you do. Not only will it give you the backstory of the characters, but the series is amazing. This story focuses on the characters of Jaru, who is an imp demon, and Larkspur, who is a pixie, that we were introduced to in previous books. Jaru is just starting to get ready to open a contract companion business. Larkspur misses his best friend and offers to help him around the office so that he can spend more time with Jaru. As the two spend more time together the attraction between them grows. Of course, they must overcome some obstacles as danger looms for the two of them. Can they overcome such seemingly insurmountable obstacles and truly be together? I absolutely adore this series and the characters I have met along the way. The storyline is interesting, unique, and original with quirky characters that I instantly adored. I highly recommend this entire series!

Book four in the Life Is Hell series. I am very disappointed… that this series is almost over! I love this series so much. What’s not to love? Magic, Supernatural beings, danger, love and it all takes place in an unassuming small town. I recommend reading in order as the characters and stories intertwine with each other in the small town of Juniper Lake. Each story is unique though and you definitely won’t get bored! Sure as Hell is the story of Jaru and Lark. Jaru is an imp demon and Lark is Jaru’s best friend. Trouble comes about, and puts Lark in danger. Jaru wants to push Lark away, to keep him safe. Lark has other plans and tells Jaru his feelings for him. Can Jaru accept Lark’s love and keep him safe? You must read to find out!

Sure As Hell (Life Is Hell Book 4) by Naomi Valkyrie. I love this series and I think each book gets better. I would recommend reading these in order so you get all the great details. Its the story of Juniper Lake a not so normal destination, it just happens to be a hot spot for demons. We meet Jaru who is an imp and a former contact companion who feels like he not doing his job up to par. Jaru decides to open a new business, much to his best friend Lark’s dismay. Lark is actually jealous of all the time Jaru spends on this new business since they are a new couple. Lark decides to mess up the business on purpose so that he can have all of Jaru’s attention. Will Jaru’s business make it and will Lark get all of Jaru’s attention or will Lark’s interference cause them to split permanently. Read Sure as Hell to find out all this and more!

Sure As Hell is Book 4 in the Life is Hell Series…and I was so excited to read Jaru and Lark’s story. I highly recommend reading this series in order as the characters intertwine through out each book. The storytelling, unique story and characters….I love this series so much. The feels of paranormal romance with a mix of magic, secrets, revenge, mystery, danger, friends to lovers MM Romance… I loved it all!!
Jaru and Lark have a strong friendship of being best friends…unfolding to the possibility of something more. Jaru is wanting to be more “adult like” and responsible opening a business of his own. Lark wants to spend all their time being with Jaru without “adulting”….but this could cause issue between them when Jaru is trying to be serious. When evil lurks around the corners and secrets are discovered…will Jaru and Lark’s budding relationship be tested or should they remain friends….
I love the characters in this book. Jaru really melted my heart and it broke me with his low self esteem at times…and I love how the characters in the book really support each other, especially when times get a bit tough. I really enjoyed this story so much. Highly recommended!!

Sure as Hell is part of the Life is Hell series. This one follows the story of Larkspur and Jaru. The characters from the previous books are part of the story as well but this one is about their love story. Jaru is an imp and Larkspur is a pixie. They have a strong friendship that has turned into something more but will they make it through when someone from Jaru’s past shows up and tries to steal Larkspur so he can sell him?
Ive read all the previous books before this one. Naomi has a unique style of writing that I really enjoy. Her stories have a lot of detail but are also short reads. I like how even though each book is about a different set of characters and she is always introducing new ones, she still adds more about previous characters and keeps them in the story even as supporting characters. If you want a short read (I can read the Life is Hell books in an hour or 2) I recommend checking these out. It’s a great new take of fantasy.

This story continues the adventures in the world of Juniper Lake. This book revolves around Jaru and Lark. Evil has found its way to Jaru and his new attempt at finding his place. With the growing danger Soren works to keep Lark and Jaru safe. As they try to figure out the mystery and deal with danger the three begin to get closer and emotions show themselves. It was interesting to watch the friendships grow and deepen. There are many characters in this world and the author weaves them all into the stories. In this book we get to see the way Soren, Lark and Jaru intertwine with previous characters and to truly enjoy this series it should be read in order to get the full understanding.

Sure As Hell is the 4th book in the Life Is Hell Series by Naomi Valkyrie. This book continues the character development with Jaru, a imp demon, and Lark a pixie. This is an M/M book that continues off the other 3 books in the series. These books have such great fusion from one to the other that they are seamless. I love that we get to see each person get their own couples book, but we also see the other characters from the previous ones. This book unpacks a lot of personal issues of Jaru and Lark, but their friends are there to help and guide them through some awful times. Fantastic 4th book in the series, and I can’t wait for the next one! #sureashell #lifeishellseries #NaomiValkrie #jaruandlark

I think I liked this book the most in the series so far. I absolutely love Lark. I think he’s so different from the other characters. Not just because he’s a pixie but because he has such a childlike view on the world. He’s really sweet and loving. There is always much more to the characters than how they appear to us initially. I didn’t like Lark in the previous book lol, I thought man he’s a trouble maker. Harmless but annoying. I’m so glad we got to see more of him. Jaru’s growth is amazing. I can go on an on about this story but I will leave it with the fact that Naomi is a superb writer. You get an amazing insight to every character. You learn their secrets, their fears and what makes them happy.

This is the 4th installment in the Life is Hell series by Naomi Valkyrie. This is the story of Larkspur and Jaru and a few surprising characters. I really enjoyed this installment. Jaru is like a character I’ve never seen before and while I found him a bit irritating in the previous book, this book gave us a much more in-depth look at his character and explained a lot of why he is the way he is. I thoroughly enjoyed Lark and Jaru’s story and the continuation of all of the characters in Juniper Lake. I love how Valkyrie keeps characters from previous stories in the current story and continues to give the readers updates and tidbits about their lives. I also love how good Valkyrie is at teasing the next book’s characters. The plot line of this series just keeps getting better and better and I can’t wait to see what the 5th installment brings. While these books do focus on different characters, you need to read them in order to get a full understanding and grasp on the plot of the series and the characters’ nuances and dynamics. Sure as Hell is a MM paranormal romance that will have you turning the pages long after you are supposed to be sleeping. Reviewed by @meggs1717

We are back in Juniper Lake for book 4 of the “Life Is Hell” series. This one focuses on Larkspur the pixie, Jaru the imp, and Soren the bodyguard. You see all characters in previous additions to the series and by the time we get to book 4, they feel like comfortable old friends.
Jaru is a former contract companion and has been in many iffy scenarios in his time. All of his experiences have led him to begin his own companionship business to offer better and safer options for courtesans of Juniper Lake. While focusing on his business, he doesn’t have the free time that he used to, and Lark let’s it be known he is very unhappy about it. When sparks begin to fly, Jaru wonders if he can have his business AND Lark. As Jaru wrestles with whether or not this could be the right thing, danger starts to emerge which leads to him hiring Soren in order to protect Lark. Once he sees the chemistry and interest between Soren and Larkspur, he decides he must step out of the way to let them both protected from him and his problems. When Lark is captured, Jaru comes up with a plan to avenge him and a confession of love and devotion is made. Will the three of them be able to figure out what is just right for everyone involved?
Before all is said and done, there is chemistry, intrigue, passion, stress, love, danger, attraction, self doubt, and so many other things that make up the excellent location of Juniper Hills. While characters are paranormal, they are so relatable and understandable in all the ways we doubt ourselves and what we have to offer. The emotions are so beautifully pulled from the reader and you will ache and laugh right along with the characters we have come to love. The world building is fantastic, the characters and the way they have all become family to one another keeps you coming back for more, and the sizzle factor both ramps up and calms down as the moments arise. In order to best appreciate the series and characters I recommend starting at book 1!

I’m Jaru Fane, imp, and former contract companion who puts up a good front, but inside I feel like I’m falling apart.
With the support of my Juniper Lake family, I finally know what I want to do with my life – start a business. Unfortunately, running a business doesn’t leave me a lot of time for my best friend, Larkspur.
Lonely, Lark decides to take matters into his own hands and remind me that he exists. The result is the start of something between us I never considered before. As things are starting to get good, like usual, my life goes to crap.
When disaster strikes, I know I’m not cut out to be what Lark needs. He needs someone like my bodyguard, Soren. I’m not strong. I’m not powerful. I’m always going to need someone to save me from myself. Setting Lark up with Soren seems like the best answer, but if I make the decision that will keep Lark safe, I may lose him forever.

Sure As Hell is the fourth novel in the Life is Hell series by Naomi Valkyrie. This novel should be read after reading the other three. Otherwise you will not know what is happening in the novel. Jaru and Larkspur’s story felt like the most action packed one yet. I came away feeling that I knew the two characters better. Seeing Jaru develop confidence in himself was enlightening. Being an imp, he’s used to following other’s orders. Larkspur totally knocked it out of the park with developing into so much more. That was truly delightul. He went from fun and games to trying to be responsible and sure of themself. The author always makes such enjoyable books to read because there is one plot with several little subplots that all line up. I love the twists and turns. The little ending was the BOMB!! Another one out of the park!

Being the 4th book in this series, I will start this off by saying, please read in order. You’ll get the story from the beginning and know the who, what, when and how of everything. I absolutely loved this story! Each one is my new favorite and i think this one will stay that for some time. These characters, while I cant relate to the special beings they are i can connect and relate to their feelings and actions . This author is talented and hope she never stops writing as I will keep reading!

I absolutely love paranormal romance books! And this 4th book in the series does not disappoint. You don’t have to read them in order but I highly recommend it so you can get all of the characters stories. My heart broke at some parts in this book as it felt close to home. You just want to sweep Jaru and Lark into your arms and protect them as if they are yours. I can definitely relate to some of the self doubt and questioning of yourself as Jaru does. This is such an amazing series!

I’ve read all 4 books in this series in order, and I highly recommend doing that so you can know the characters the way you’re supposed to. This book is Lark and Jaru’s story. I have to admit, I was really shocked when they got their own book, I had thought they were just background characters. Boy was I wrong. They are such amazing characters and I ended up loving this book just as much as I loved the others. This one has a bit more of a “dark” presence to it, so if BDSM and thruples aren’t for you, just be advised it is here. However it’s done so respectfully and tastefully that it’s barely even a thing. I love everything of Naomi Valkyrie’s I’ve read and can’t wait for book 5!

I enjoyed this book, it was really interesting. This is book 4 in the series and I haven’t read any of the previous books. I would recommend reading them as though. I understood the main story enough to enjoy it, but I had no idea who some of the side characters were and I feel it would have been even better had I known who every one was and how they all linked together. Jaru has stared up on his own, providing contract companions, with the backing and support of Teivel and Oren. He is determined to make it a success and run it on his own, however companions are starting to go missing so he employs Soren as security. Best friend Lark is now fed up at home and decides to join Jaru in the office, and ends up revealing a secret he’s been keeping. While Soren, Jaru and Lark work together to try and figure out who is behind the missing companions, they grow closer. The world building is really interesting and makes me want to go back and read more.

Sure as Hell is the 4th book in Naomi Valkyrie’s series Life is Hell. It should be read as part of the series, because all the characters overlap. To fully understand what each character is (as they are all paranormal) and their relationships (many overlapping relationships, 3 somes, etc). Also, the series is awesome, so really, you’d be doing yourself a favor by reading them all. I don’t normally read paranormal books, but I am hooked on this series. This book focuses on Jaru and Lark. As with all books in the series, there is a bit of romance, as well as a bit of action and suspense. Because this book’s main character is an imp, and former contract companion (think call girl), and contains mixed relationships, it is for a more mature audience. I enjoyed getting to know Lark as more than a prankster fairy he has been in the previous books. I also enjoyed seeing Jaru grow up, so to speak, and learn to be his own person, outside of being a companion. Looking forward to the next book in the series

Naomi Valkyrie does not disappoint. This series is so much fun to read. I enjoyed Jaru’s story and found it wonderful to see him grow as an individual and to find love for himself. As always, Naomi Valkyrie’s world was vibrant and full of fun and intrique. There was some adventure and as always the good guy wins. This is an excellent series and I hope Naomi Valkyrie continues to explore this world.

A wonderfully written paranormal romance which had me hooked from page one. The author has created a detailed world which is bought to life by the descriptive narrative. I felt fully immersed in the story and engaged with the likeable and relatable characters. Imp and former contract companion Jaru Fane just wants to prove himself and although outwardly he looks confident inside he feels as though he is falling apart. Luckily he has the support of his Juniper Lake family and decides to start his own contract companion business. However, this means that Jaru’s best friend and prankster Lark becomes lonely and so he decides to make sure that Jaru knows he still exists. This results in their relationship developing but when Lark is in danger it’s Jaru’s bodyguard Soren that can help not him. Although Soren can keep Lark safe Jaru worries he may have lost him for good. The storyline flows well and the plot kept me happily turning the pages but it was the characters and their complex relationships that had me gripped. Although this novel is part of a series it can be read as a standalone story but the characters do crossover. I look forward to future books in the ‘Life is Hell’ series.

Considering I jumped into this series with Book 4 I can honestly say that this author did a tremendous job writing with so much detail. I do believe that this book would be better enjoyed having read the first three but I had no problem whatsoever starting from here. The author provided enough detail and information that I was able to piece stuff together as I was introduced to these wonderful characters.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. I loved the dual POV, the character development and the never a dull moment storyline. I quickly found myself intrigued and captivated by these characters and their complex and dynamic lives, having finished this book now I am really looking forward to starting this series from the beginning!
