Into the Light (Moon Harbor Series Book 3) by Kate McWilliams – Review by Diane Sennett

Into the LightInto the Light by Kate McWilliams
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Kate McWilliams brings to life the story of Ellie and Raf. Ellie is living her dream, running her jewelry shop in a quiet town. Raf has a past, which he keeps hidden from his friends. When Raf’s past catches up with him, Ellie decides to try to move on. As they forge their paths in life, not connecting in a way Ellie would like, there’s someone in the shadows. Are they watching Ellie or just a tourist in a tourist town?
This book is romantic and suspenseful. I did not realize when I read it that it was part of a series, but it was written so well, that it didn’t matter that I hadn’t read the others. The tension the author builds between the characters is spot on. I would 100% recommend reading this book.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The entire gang is back in another Kitty Beret Cafe Mystery and I am so happy about it. I love this series so much that I would still be happy if we were on book 40 and beyond. This series definitely keeps you entertained.

A beloved customer of the cafe has passed away. One of her final requests, have a cat show for sheltered cats. That’s what leads Ellie to find another dead body and that is how our story begins.

Ellie and Detective Simon once again follow the clues.

This is a great read if you enjoy suspense, cats and a good cozy mystery.

A Love Restrained by Becky Flade – Review by Kiana Corley

A Love RestrainedA Love Restrained by Becky Flade
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is one of the best bad-boy romance novels I have read in a long time. Not the typical I want to change him and he does immediately like every other book of this trope. Becky does an amazing job at keeping the reader guessing about what will happen next. Well written and a fast read.

If you love a good bad boy this is the book for you. This book follows the journey of a young beat cop and the bad boy from her high school. JD is a hardened man made this way by a past with more twists than you would expect. Kylee the intelligent, witty, strong, and independent cop from a cheerful and loving family. You get to witness a chance yet unpleasant reconnection between these two. This book is full of surprises and twists you would not expect. Not your typical bad boy love story.

What happens when two worlds collide and past feelings arise? How well do you know someone and their past? Can two broken hearts heal each other? Read this book to find out.

I really enjoyed this book and it was a great introduction to a new author as well. I thought the storyline was good, it flowed well and had a great pace to it. I read the book in one sitting as I found it hard to put down. I really liked he characters Kylee and Jayson, both really different characters in terms of their present day life and their past/upbringing but the connection and chemistry they had was undeniable. I really liked the way the author brought them both to life.
This was a really good read and one that I would definitely recommend – I will certainly be looking for more to read from this author in the future.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this romance Suspense story. It is a story that is full of twists and turns that keeps the reader guessing. The author does a great job with the characters. Both of them are very strong characters and their attraction to each other leaps off the page. I also love how the author has given them so much depth by including all their past history. It makes the characters more realistic and their story more believable.

In this story we follow Kaylee and Jayson. Both of them have history from high school. Feelings and emotions that were denied at the time and crossed wires turned them against each other.
Now their lives collide again and yet again then are on opposite sides.

Kaylee is a police officer. She loves her job and is determined to be the best officer she can be. However a routine capture of a drug dealer will turn her life and everything she thought was right upside down.

Jayson is the guy she busts and even after all the years apart his feelings for her come racing back to the surface. He couldn’t be with her when they were younger but he will stop at nothing to get her now. But will Kaylee be able to see past who he has become and his life of crime to find the boy that stole her heart at school? And what will the consequences be if Kaylee starts getting close to a suspect that police want to catch? Will they get their HEA or will Kaylee’s job and Jaysons life be too much for the attraction to survive. This story will keep.you gripped and the twists in the story means you definately won’t be able to stop reading

I wasn’t too sure about this one when I decided it to add it to my collection to read. I am a little unsure on my review on this one.

Firstly it has a trigger warning – I somehow missed this fact when I read the blurb and I found it quite confronting on a personal level.

Secondly – when reading a series I always make sure I have the next book or two so that if there is unresolved business I can read on. Having said that the unresolved business may not even feature in the next book….

Having said that I absolutely loved this book. It’s the first that I have read by this author but I am definitely going to keep an eye open for the next one in this series.

It’s a good read!

Ritual Obsession: Blood Obsession by RL Dunn – Review by Shavon Brown

Ritual Obsession (Blood Obsession Book 1)Ritual Obsession by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

So I am going to start this review with a few warnings:

Warning 1: There is a very detailed scene of Sexual Assault in this book. It happens to the character named Bobbi. It is very hard to read as she is raped.

Warning 2: This is a very good book, but it ends on a major cliffhanger and nothing has been resolved. We know who did it, but there is a great chance he could get away with it, Someone is in the hospital fighting for there life.

With those warnings in mind for future or almost readers. Truth is I could not put this book down, it was definitely a page turner.

Rose the veteran detective and Rose the new detective to the precinct get partnered together but that is not all. A string of murders of working girls gets the whole precinct involved including Detective Commander Marco, who is an old flame of Detective Rose.

Honestly, IMO this book plays out like an episode of Matlock. Where you have all the pieces as the reader or viewer but you are waiting for the detectives to put everything together. They do get there but by the time they do it seems a little to late.

Their is drama for our drama lovers as we have multiple office romances including, Marco & Rose, Bobbi & Max and Rose & Brian.

Like I said in my warning. This book does end on some major cliffhangers so if you want the conclusion to the story you will need to pick up book 2 and keep your fingers crossed.

So before I start I just want to say 3 things

1) Pay heed to the content warning

2) Have nerves of steel . Expect the unexpected. Have a strong i constitution.

3 There’s a cliffie!

Ok so I was as keen as mustard to get into this book and at a stage I felt it was a little slow but man hang in there you will not be disappointed!

Bobbi has a lot going on in her life then you add a new job , new people , new department oh and a deranged serial killer … quite the combination

There’s a lot going on and I don’t say that in a bad way , it keeps you interested . I like Bobbi and Max as individuals and as a team . I felt both horror and sadness for victims , survivors and their families . There’s we’re also characters that bought out the ugly in me , like I would not spout on them if they were on fire , real nasty folk …

So before I devour the read I’m letting my nerves settle ❣️📕😱

First, let me say I like that it’s made in the mid-1990s which drew me in alone. Second of all, the action surrounding these partners trying to catch a killer makes your heart race even further but it’s also a connection between the characters as we witness their friendship intensify right before our eyes. The story, the action, the characters: All of this won’t let you put this one down. Get into it!

Mystery, Romance, Drama, Friendships, Murder – this book has it all! I thought I would be on the fence with this book and ended up absolutely loving it. I could not put it down and found one of my new favorite authors.

Bobbi is a strong-willed woman that came from a rich family, as everyone reminds her constantly. She is trying to make her own way in life after finding her passion for becoming a police officer. Her partner, Rose, is one tough lady who takes every task head on and accepts no excuses. Most of the guys in the precinct have eyes for Bobbi but only one catches her attention, Max. He feels he has finally found The One when they begin their relationship, but can he protect her from the Bathtub Murderer?

It took me a beat to warm up to this story in the beginning, but once it got going, I was hooked for good. I’m ready for the second book as soon as possible to find out what happens next. You won’t regret picking this up!

I have mixed feelings about this story. I was sucked in immediately with the tough female detective not taking crap from her newbie partner and her new partner also female wanting to prove herself and thrive at being a cop. Where it starts to get a little frustrating for me is with the different point of views and all of the relationships. Rose and Marco, Rose and Brian. Rose and Marco again. I don’t really feel like that added anything to the story. Then the situation with Bobbi and her ex while the actual case they are working on is playing out. There is no way after the events that took place she should have been allowed to go undercover to catch a guy that’s going around killing and raping women. I still can’t grasp my head around it. She’s still getting help for her personal situation which they all know about and still went with the plan? Other than those things I did enjoy the story. The villain is smart and clever. It frustrates me that he hasn’t been caught yet but that’s what kept me reading. That and the relationship between Bobbi and Max. I think Max is the most realistic character in the story. He’s not a Prince Charming. But he’s trustworthy, loyal, caring, and loving. He proves over and over again that he’s good for Bobbi. His reactions to different situations are realistic. Overall the book is a page turner. Once the story starts unfolding you won’t want to out the book down.

Ritual Obsession (Blood Obsession Book 1)Ritual Obsession by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

**This book comes with a trigger warning for violence against women, sexual encounters, and murder** Ritual Obsession is the first book in the Obsession series and centers around a rookie detective (Roberta, or Bobbi) who is placed into a prominent case. There is a serial killer on the loose, targeting beautiful hazel eyed, brunette women. He is leaving behind no clues at all, and is stumping the detectives at every turn of the coin. Bobbi, who looks exactly like his targets, decides to go undercover to try to lure out the killer, against others’ advice. I really liked that this book has a female detective as the main character, as opposed to the broody males in most other books. Romance thrillers are not typically what I pick up but this one seems very well balanced and not TOO much smut, or focusing only on that. There was also quite a bit of “filler” material, I think, or things that felt like it wasn’t necessary and just kind of rattled on. This wasn’t frequent enough to have me give up on it, and I am glad I pushed through. I also love stories that have multiple POV so you can get the “whole story” and not one character’s take on a situation. I wasn’t thrilled that the book ends on a cliffhanger (no spoilers!) but it has enticed me enough that I will be picking up the second book to get the rest of the answers!

Ritual obsession is a romantic suspense but from the book description I was expecting more of a ‘scary’ ‘cultish’ type story and it only barely scratched the surface of that with the crime they were trying to solve. If you are in any way, shape, or form sensitiveto rape, abuse against woman, etc., I would absolutely heed the content warnings here. Rose wasn’t my favorite character but I see why she is the way she is in the field she was in ms I think having Bobbi as a partner ended up being good for her. I was really rooting for Max. Overall, I enjoyed the book although the first couple chapters were slow it did start to pick up and hold my attention through to the end.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This story contains many trigger warning, so is only suitable for those over 18 and with a strong constitution, for other information, please see trigger warnings in the blurb.

Roberta “Bobbi” Wallace is a socialite and has been for her entire life, that is until she discovered that money doesn’t solve all problems and because of this and a dare that she wouldn’t get through basic training, she decided to become a police officer and has been slowly gaining experience and rising through the ranks over the last couple of years. Max Buckley is a detective in the NYPD and is working in a team of officers who have worked together for a while and have a companionship which involves banter, gentle mickey taking and sometimes annoying each other just for the fun of it, but that changes when the newest member of the team walks in for their first day.

The moment Bobbi walks into the NYPD office she is about to become a part of, the first person she comes across is a male detective who tries it on as soon as he claps eyes on her, but she isn’t interested and instead rebuffs him and goes to meet her new partner. Meanwhile, Max is determined to make a good impression and so plays Bobbi down to the rest of the team, that however, causes them to band together to rip into his misinformation, but this stops as soon as the Captain walks in and makes the introductions.

As Bobbi is learning the ropes and the ways of those around her, she is thrown into the deep end when a murder comes in, the victim is a hazel eyed and brown haired victim who has been brutalised, stabbed and left in a bathtub in a hotel room, thus the killer is named the “Bathtub Murderer”. She is thrown together with Max as part of the duty allocations and cannot deny that there is an attraction between them, despite trying hard to deny it, but Max has no such qualms and keeps plugging away and wooing Bobbi in order to convince her to let down her walls.

As the leads are getting them nowhere and the victims increase in number, it is decided that Bobbi will go undercover as she matches the description of the victims, however, Max and Bobbi are slowly becoming inseparable, but fate intervenes and others actions try and tear them apart. Will the team be able to work out the identity of the “Bathtub Murderer” before Bobbi becomes their next victim and will the relationship between her and Max survive the undercover operation? This is a thriller with a lot of adult themes and is not for the faint of heart, or weak of stomach with plenty of action and graphic scenes throughout as the you follow along and try to solve the case yourself.

This is the first book in the series, and it ends in a cliffhanger.

If you are sensitive to violence against women, please heed the content warnings as there are on-page scenes.

I wanted to love this book because the description seemed intriguing. Unfortunately, it has a slow start. I felt like the first nine chapters could have been condensed down into two, maybe three to get all the pertinent pieces of backstory.

Also, Rose… did not like her at all. She’s a colossal B. Even when she mellows, she’s still abrasive. I mean, I guess in a male dominated industry that might be a necessity, but I just could not find a way to like her.

All of that being said, the story picks up the pace in chapter ten and gets much more interesting.

I wavered between three and four stars on this book but settled on four because things eventually started holding my attention.

This is a first read for me by R. L. Dunn and I was not disappointed! In this first book in the Blood Obsession series, the author creates totally different, but coexisting worlds. I was drawn in from the very first chapter and couldn’t put this book down. Ritual Obsession is filled with twists and turns, suspense, romance, drama, and everything in between. The connection between the characters is so realistic and each character is so unique that I couldn’t help but want to be friends with some of them! Dunn creates not only one but two strong, female characters that know how to hold their own in the male dominated world of the NYPD. With strong character development, great world building, and action, romance, and suspense in abundance, Ritual Obsession is not a book to miss.

Ritual Obsession by RL Dunn is the first book in the Blood Obsession series and what a way to start a series. This book was hard to put down and I actually got annoyed I finished it too quickly. The story follows Bobbi, a detective in the NYPD. Bobbi is not your typical police officer as she comes from a wealthy background and was a debutante. When she is sent to a new precinct it is not easy to fit in however she proves her worth to her tough partner Rose. I don’t want to spoil the story, but this book has you feeling all sorts of things! There are some trigger warnings as it does touch on some very sensitive subjects but if you want a thrilling, gritty crime novel with a hint of romance. I have read a few books by this author and loved them, this book did not disappoint.

A thrilling mystery that will keep you turning pages! After a rookie is killed on duty, Roberta “Bobbi” Wallace gets assigned to the 10th precinct. With her good looks and after being a teen debutante, in high society, Bobbi is used to people not taking her seriously. When her new hard-ass partner Rose starts calling her Little Miss Debs, Bobbi thirsts to prove herself through her work.
When Max Buckley sets eyes on the new rookie he is drawn to her immediately. Bobbi feels it too although she isn’t looking for a workplace romantic relationship, even though she can’t deny the connection they have. All personal feelings must be put on hold however when a serial killer dubbed The Bathtub Killer, is loose and on a gruesome killing spree. To make matters worse the escorts he is mutilating are all brunettes with hazel eyes, just like her. Can Bobbi go undercover and catch this prolific killer or will she be his next victim?
I am on the edge of my seat, I need the next book ASAP! I loved it! This book was such a page-turner that makes you need to know more! Very well written and relatable characters ( I love Bobbi) and scenes packed with so much suspense and thrills! I really enjoyed the fact that R.L. Dunn created a crime thriller that had two female partners of the NYPD. It was a refreshing take that you don’t see very often. Her use of language and detail really makes this story so immersive and her clues and twists were woven in so perfectly! Such a great read! Highly recommend it!

Ritual Obsession (Blood Obsession Book 1)Ritual Obsession by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Max loves his job as a detective for his local precinct but he’s still mourning over the loss of his relationship with Carole. They were running for the altar when everything changed and he found himself alone.

Roberta (a.k.a. Bobbi) is a socialite turned cop. No one wants to take her seriously because of her amazingly great looks and money. She just wants to be accepted and make something of her life while staying out of the papers.

When Bobbi is hired on as the new partner for Rosie (another cop in the department), every man is vying for a chance at her. She only has eyes for one person but really don’t want to mix business with pleasure after the outcome on her last assignment for another precinct.

A series of murders start happening in the city and this murderer’s M.O. is pretty gruesome. He only desires brunettes with hazel eyes and most of them are call girls. It’s when his m.o. starts changing that things really start to heat up for the detectives on the case. How many more women have to die before they can catch this creep?

This is my first R.L. Dunn book but will not be my last!! From the get go, this one had my attention. Just when I thought I had it figured out, things would change and I’d change my mind. I’m still trying to untangle all the clues and details!! This is gripping, chilling, and will stick with you for awhile. I’m glad the next book in this series is released in a couple of weeks. I’ll have to reserve some time for it because it’s that good of a series so far!

Ritual Obsession (Blood Obsession Book 1) by R.L. Dunn. I LOVED this book. Its become one of my favorite books I’ve read this year. Its the story of Roberta “Bobbie” Wallace who has just become a detective with the NYPD all based on a dare. Her new partner Max Buckley has been with the NYPD for years and has seen a lot. When he first sees Bobbie he’s smitten but knows he has to keep it all business even though he flirts with her. New York is also now under attack from a serial killer that likes dark haired ladies which Bobbie is. Bobbie and Max are both put on a task force to stop this killer before it gets worse. Fighting together to stop this serial killer and fighting the attraction to one another things are getting dangerous. Will they be able to stop the killer before more murders are committed? Read this fast paced, turn the pages late in the night crime thriller! You won’t be disappointed. I can’t wait to read the next one!

New York City is under siege, by a diabolical serial killer designated as The Bathtub Murderer, which I thought was unique. This mystery-romantic suspense gives the reader plenty of action, romance, voodoo rituals, graphic depictions of both consensual and nonconsensual sex, and murder.

This story has excellent strong female lead characters. You empathize for them when they go through heartbreak and traumatizing experiences. The storyline is sometimes emotionally intense, as it touches on the subject of murder, sexual assault and the aftermath of surviving sexual assault. Please be advised that many readers may find the story disturbing and/or triggering. The author does include a trigger warning at the beginning of the book, which is appreciated.

This is an excellent start to the series and reminds me of the In Death series by J.D. Robb without the setting in the future! I look forward to reading more in the Blood Obsession series!

This was a fantastic read! I loved the heart melting moments as much as the mystery woven throughout the book. The characters were so easy to fall in love with! I could barely put the book down! I recommend this book if you love action, sprinkled with romance, and mystery this book is for you!
