This is probably by far the most beautiful book that I have ever had the pleasure of reading, everything in it just shone. It was so wonderful to gain insight and view the world how Chelle sees it. It shouldn’t need to ever be said but it is said wonderfully here that life is still vibrant, still colourful and beautiful even without sight. I adored the little activities she got the reader to do, really challenging you to step outside your comfort zone and really put yourself in the shoes of someone who is blind. Above everything else, what I adored the most was the playful and positive style that literally dripped off every word. Reading about the world from Chelle’s perspective, it felt fun and wonderful. Just adored reading this and I am sure that everyone else will too.

I had the opportunity to read the messages within the book, and it was great to see what it is like to work within the confinements of blindness and other impairments as well. It reminded me of some of the exercises done to settle anxiety and return to oneness! I think these exercises were quite calming, and the commentary throughout the book was insightful. I look forward to continuing these exercises regularly!

Going into this understanding that it was a quick read, I wasn’t as disappointed with the length, as some readers mentioned. And really, wanting to read more is a GOOD thing. If it was a poorly written book, I’d be happy to put it down. However, I was so intrigued and inspired by the insight and activities in this book, that I didn’t want to put the book down at all. I feel like I could even use some of these activities in my daily practice as a School Nurse during vision screenings and counseling sessions. I love reading about different disabilities and their adventures in the world from the perspective of an actual disabled person. Please read!

This is such a lovely book. The poems are absolutely beautiful. It is extremely informative, but not in a boring textbook way. It has several activities in it as well, making learning more fun. This book is perfect for young kids to learn about people with disabilities in a way that they can better understand some of the struggles they face daily. It is also great for older kids and adults as well. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

I loved this book. It really made me stop and think about those who experience blindness. The writing is beautiful. The activities included really give you an idea of what it would be like to experience the world without being able to see. I completed the activities with my family and kids. I’m always looking for new ways to help them understand and experience the world from other perspectives. This was the perfect book to do that with. I think this book is a great resource for everyone. I read the kindle version, but plan to order the physical copy to read again and keep it as a resource.

This book is a fantastic and insightful look into the lives of those without sight and how they perceive the world in a different way to those who can see. It speaks about different experiences of how not having sight can impact on the other senses and between the poetry, vivid descriptions and exercises within it, you find that it changes how you see the world as well by giving you a glimpse into a different version of the world around you.

This book isn’t a title I’d normally gravitate to, but the description intrigued me a bit. I grew up with a few girls that were deaf and it always interested me how they could adapt and how we (their classmates) adapted and learned with them. Although I don’t remember all the sign language I once knew, I still remember most of the alphabet and have found it helpful in my life.

That said, this book wasn’t exactly what I thought it would be. It was short, which I was expecting by the page count, but I felt like it was missing… something. I wanted more.

It would be a good resource for those unfamiliar with blindness at a young age. The activities could teach lasting lessons if done right. I liked the overall ‘our differences make us special’ message, and how the author touches on the fact that we’re all more different than we are alike. I’ve never really thought about it that way.

I’d give this book a 3/5 just because I think there needs to be more. More in the beginning, middle and even the end. Great idea overall though. Happy I took a look, hope the author will expand on the idea in the future.

I loved reading the poems. They really are spot on and made me think. The next portion of the book is filled with activities foe the reader to do. It was fun and I did learn a few things. The last portion is a QA. I can see why a few of the questions asked..because people are curious or nosy. The first one just flummoxed me. I think its because people with vision only think of colors…so seeing blank is unfathomable to someone not vision impaired.

This is a great book that is quick but very informative. The author does a good job getting her thoughts across. Very thought provoking.

WOW! Colors of Darkness is such a touching and inspiring read, and it caught me completely off-guard. To begin with, the author is blind and brings such awareness to the struggles and achievements that come with having a disability. I love how it teaches others to not only be aware, and how to deal with disabilities, but also to be more caring and sensitive about it. The descriptive poems are so heartwarming and touching, and the activities included help you “see” what it is like to live with blindness. I am thankful to have picked this one up since I have always been very much about being kind to others, but this opened my eyes in a way I didn’t know I needed. Thank you for this unique spin on what it is like to miss out on one of your senses! I say this one is a must read.

I started reading this book alone, then stopped and decided to read this with my oldest son. He’s in second grade, and was the perfect partner to do these activities with. Like many children he’s curious and has had his fair share of questions over the years seeing people out and about in wheelchairs or with service dogs and canes. I think this was perfect for him to learn and understand better with these activities and the authors thought provoking questions! We definitely ended the book with new knowledge!

The whole time I was reading this book, all I could think was ‘this would be a wonderful book to read to children!’. The activities are fun and definitely have a way of making you think and appreciate how blessed you really are. I, especially appreciated the diagrams with the Braille as well as ASL hand gestures for the alphabet. Kudos to the author for deciding to view their inability to see as a challenge instead of a disability! It is always nice to have been given a reason to truly think about what life could be like.

This was a really informative look at the world from a blind person’s perspective. It was interesting to read about the varying degrees of blindness and how each one affects the person differently. The author suggests activities for people to try to give them a sense of what it is like to be blind and after trying a couple myself it really gives you a new perspective and shows you how your other senses work together to compensate for the lack of sight. Overall I found this an enjoyable and interesting read and I think it would be a good way to explain to children about blindness through the activities suggest in this book.

This was a really good book! It was cute, sweet and also informative. While it was written in a way to inform younger children, it works to inform older kids and even adults as well! I loved the poems in this book, they were so descriptive! There are games and activities you can play to help visualize how a blind person lives everyday. There was even a crash course in reading braille and sign language! For such a small and short book, this one is jam packed with information and activities! I really did enjoy this one.

This was such an incredibly thought-provoking book and I am so glad that I picked it up to read. I have such a newfound respect and understanding of people with visual impairments and how they deal with every day things. I really enjoyed learning about Braille – it’s something I’ve always wondered about and it was explained so well. The author is a true inspiration and the way this book is written definitely made me thin a lot. Her descriptions of things in particular made me stop and appreciate my sight so much.
I really do highly recommend this book!

I found this book was very useful in more than one way, it brought a great understanding for those who read it that may not have known much about things that do not come as everyone. I have a brother who has autism so this book really was a mind blown wonder for me, I really enjoyed it and I truly appreciate the author to what they have done here! A lot of us don’t truly understand what it is like to be blind or even unable to hear as we normally do. This book had activities’ for us to experience what people or children like that have to do every day. It was a powerful book of activities. I feel a lot of people would benefit form this, and have a form of understanding This is a activity book that MUST be experienced. Its beautiful and wonderful all at the same time! Thank you to this wonderful author for creating this!

This book to me, is the perfect way to explain blindness or visual impairments. The author gives tests or activities you can try at home to get a small taste of what it is like for someone with a visual impairment. I liked the info on Braille, I am happy that there was an alphabet made for the visually impaired to “read” it is a very cleaver system. I am also very happy to see that there have been many changes in the world to adapt to those who are impaired visually to be able to live out their everyday lives with some “normalcy”. This book really made me think about how I view things in my life and what I take for granted.

This is a wonderful book. As a vision impaired person, I found it be quite helpful and entertaining to use with my grandson. We loved the descriptions of items in the book such as popcorn and babies. The activities started many interesting conversations. A wonderful resource that we will use again because it was nice to actually use these activities to learn and have family time. I love finding books that the author helps people become aware of other’s abilities. Thanks for sharing! Highly recommend.

This book was an eye opener for me. As an individual I can’t say that I have ever thought about what someone who is blind goes through in this visual world we live in. This book allowed me to explore some of the ways they experience the world and how they “see” in a different way. I loved how the author helped me to see that anyone who is visually impaired can be and do anything that they want to do. This book is a must read for anyone who would like to explore or find out more about visually impaired individuals and what they experience living their lives.

Aw wow the authors note supisred me. This book really made me think about blind people and how everyday life affects them. It’s a very informative book. I knew about braille before but never knew who created it. Me and my son took the activities in this book and done them together we used it as part of our home education. We found some of the experiences overwhelming as this is not how we are used to precving the world the book gives a great insight onto how others lives who have blindness. Very informative great for adults and kids alike.

What a fantastic book!! It features some amazing descriptions on how it is to have no sight. Although lacking sight the author uses her other senses to move through the wonderful world. If we couldn’t describe what we see we could use other senses and this is masterfully done. This is so relevant to our world today. What a valuable insight on how to love the world through other means while not being able to see it.

The author has been blind since childhood, and through her poetry, and personal journey, she gives us a window into how she experiences life without sight. This is an inspiring book- and I loved how well the author conveys her thoughts and experiences, especially through her poetry.
Looking forward to reading whatever she does next!

This was an amazing read! I actually read this with 3 of my grandchildren who truly appreciated every word as I did. The activities were spot on and thought provoking, it was awesome to read a book with them where they asked questions that had me even thinking. I plan to buy this book for a few families as Christmas presents this year. This author is an inspiration and brings awareness to so many things while reading this book. This is so relevant in our world today and I’m so glad I picked this up and so very glad I was able to read it with my grandchildren. It was an honor and might just be one of my favorite reads of the year.

Simply, WOW.
This book should be read in classrooms around the world.
The author of this fabulous book is blind. They have went into detail, for the reader, about experiences and answered questions that are most commonly asked.
They also supplied the alphabet in braille and ASL.
This part is great. I have been taking ASL evening classes to help learn to talk with one of my neighbors. It has been a trial, but I keep at it.
Just like the author, they keep going. They don’t let being blind be the end. They adapt and use other senses to carry on. And we as a world need to do better to help everyone. Not just people that don’t have disabilities.
This story/activity/poem book is perfect for all ages. Everyone should read this.

This is a great interactive children story. I enjoyed how the author used poetry and different activities to get across the point of this book. The author kept the book engaging and the pictures are great. There is plenty to learn in this book and would be great for any child. It teaches them that everybody is different and that each has their own abilities. It is a great book that my daughter and I enjoyed together.
