The Challenger: A Sports Romance Saga (The Hustlers Trilogy Book 2)The Challenger: A Sports Romance Saga by Rowan Rossler

I enjoy romance novels like the best of them, and add in a sexy sports athlete and you can feel temps rise. I did not immediately like Chavez. He is arrogant and very sure of himself in getting what he wants. It was hard to imagine the chemistry between Chavez and Flynn until the story delved deeper into their personal lives and you realize they both have monumental pasts that they are trying to escape or use to change their future.

Flynn is a successful author turned motivational guru. Past tennis star that due to unfortunate circumstances stopped playing the game and has never touched a racket since. Chavez is a talented tennis player that could never quite break the barrier into the world of the greats. So everyone is thrown for a loop when on his best season yet he leaves the game, turns out Chavez has some family issues to resolve. In a twist of fate, one in a million type things, they run into each other in their therapists office and sets something in motion that neither can explain. While Flynn isn’t looking to get anywhere near the world of tennis or that close to Chavez for obvious reasons, he convinces her to become his motivational guru/tennis coach. As sparks fly and past truths get revealed can they ever find what they are truly looking for? Can Chavez rise to the top of his game and earn the respect he so much desires? Can Flynn break out of her shell and her past and get back to the writing she loves or will she be stuck in someone else’s idea of success?

This book is not only filled with romance and action but the storyline itself flows like a beautiful tapestry as you maneuver your way through their trials and tribulations. We all have a past and sometimes the hardest thing is to get past it. Get past the hurt, anger, and every other emotion so it doesn’t weigh you down and make reaching your future aspirations so challenging. This was definitely a great read with a lot of introspective moments for me about moving past what is in the past, and outrunning the expectations of others.

This started out great! Pulled me in to the story and the characters. As the book went along I was struggling to stay involved and focused. It picks back up near the end and finishes strong. It is a reverse age gap(which is only about 8yrs) and its also touted as a interracial couple. It is but not really and honestly it is very subtle as I am more Interested in each character individually more than what race they are. More importantly this also is full of secrets, lies and sensual tension. I liked that the character is in a sport we do not read about much in romance novels.

The characters are well done. I felt the emotions along with each main personality. Chavez frustrated me at times but I think that is the emotions of a professional player always in the “on” position.

There is a lot I liked about this one. His family, his job, her job and their connection are all interesting to me. The suspense and drama are also good. I also had that Awww factor going a couple times. I just struggled but it could have been my life right now. I would read another story by this author as I feel they stray away from the normal and give something a little different.

Welcome to Sports Romance at its finest. This is book 2 but it can be read as a standalone. This is Chavez and Flynn’s story. Chavez is hot tempered and uncontrollable. His tennis skills could take him far. Flynn is a motivational speaker and coach. She is the exact opposite and seems to level Chavez out. When these two unlikely souls get together, there is as much action on the court as off the court. But both of them have their own secrets to get past. Will these two come together or will this pull them apart? This story took me by surprise. The author writes an amazing story leaving nothing out. The story is fast paced as well as well written. You can’t help falling in love with the characters. Even though it looks like they have nothing in common, they find out just where they lead each other. This turned out to be an exciting story to read. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
