Ghosts of Alda (The Obscured Throne Trilogy Book 2) by Russell Archey – Review by Wendy Wary

Ghosts of AldaGhosts of Alda by Russell Archey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Having read the first book in this series, the author did not disappoint in delivering a horrific continuation of the story of Alda and the dark magic that consumes its world. Similar to the first book, it’s sectioned into almost a collection of short stories that build an overall world and characters and creatures unimaginable. The author’s detail of scenery, however, provides a clear picture of the horrors encountered. It is a slow and somewhat tedious read, but the way it unfolds along the way makes it so worth it, full of unpredictable twists that will make your jaw drop. I’m both scared and excited to see what happens next and I’m really rooting for some positive gains after the huge setback revealed in this leg of the journey.

Book 1 was amazing leading to drama, secrets, mystery, and suspense. Seeing how the world of Alda was falling apart because the 55 seals were being broken now in the 2nd book leads us off to find out more about the secrets and how the world is being controlled and how the Black Gnarls are getting their strength.
Russell Archey did an amazing job on both books.

In this dark fantasy you’ll see action, drama, mystery, and suspense. The story has great characters and will mold you into the dystopian feel. I recommend reading the first book in this series, ‘Ashes of Aldyr’ before reading Ghosts of Alda. A good story that will take you into a wild place.

I’m a romance reader through and through but I always challenge myself to pick up something out of my comfort zone every now and then. This one caught my eye so I decided why not. I was so glad I found it. This story took me on quite the ride in a world I didn’t want to leave. The characters and storyline are so well written you just simply sink into the pages while the outside world passes by. From start to finish I was completely hooked and couldn’t put this book down. This is a newer author to me but I’m really excited for more. I’m really looking forward to the next book and highly recommend this one to anyone who asks. Four big stars! Can’t wait for the next one!

I found this trilogy when I dared myself to read something outside my usual romance type stories. I’m a firm believer in trying something new every now and then to see if I’d enjoy more than just a romance. Boy was I surprised when this and book one became a couple of my favorite books. This author has a unique idea in this storyline and I love how different it is. From page one I promise you will find yourself drawn into the pages and never once missing to real world. I can’t wait for more. I’ll be on pins and needles waiting for the next but I just know it will be well worth the wait. Four stars and highly recommended.

I read this book first and definitely got a bit lost, so my tip is to start with the first book as intended! After orienting myself, I was able to dive into this book headfirst and get completely absorbed into the world that Russell Archey has created. I would say that this is one of my favorite genres so I can be a tad picky when reading new books under this umbrella. I’m happy to say that The Obscured Throne is one of my top favorite series in the past couple years and have already recommended it to quite a few of my friends. If you’d like to get lost in a darker fantasy story, this is definitely for you. Be sure to start with the first book in the series so you don’t have to double-back like I did. I highly recommend picking this up as you won’t be disappointed!

This was a great second in this series! I would recommend reading the first book so you can really dive into the storyline. This story will keep you engaged throughout the entire book. I really enjoy the characters in this series and am really looking forward to book 3. The cover alone pulled me in just like the first book. The characters have a lot of growth and you get to read from multiple perspectives. This is a darker fantasy read but I was not disappointed at all and am a huge fantasy fan! This is a fast paced book but make sure to have some time set aside because you will not want to put it down! It feels like this book picks up right where the first left off so be ready!

This is the second book in The Obscured Throne Trilogy. I would definately recommend reading the first book as it sets the story up and takes you on the beginnings of the adventure to where the characters find themselves in this book. This second installment continues and follows on from the first books ends. As soon as I started reading it I was dragged back into this world, where currently evil is residing and destroying everything in its path.

A group of people survived the Rupture and this is their stories. Told from different perspectives the reader gets an insight into each individuals struggles to survive in a world where evil reigns, you get to read all about their struggles and battles and how each of them is fighting to find ways the over come the evil destroying their world.
All of the characters are well written and unique and each has a story to tell. The reader can’t helped but be dragged into their lives, pain and struggles as good trys to triumph.
It isn’t all dark though there is some hope that they can defeat evil but finding a way is the challenging part.
This story is full of adventure, secrets, mystery and magic that will keep you hooked from beginning to end.
I can’t wait to read the final installment of this Trilogy.

This second book was incredibly riveting for me. I kept reading page after page and I just couldn’t stop. In this gothic fantasy, it continues where book 1 left off, so if you haven’t read that one yet, I highly suggest going back and reading it first, or you will find yourself thoroughly confused as to what is going on. The stage is set and the characters have their places, and ready to give you their story, which the author does wonderfully. He pulls you in swiftly and forcefully and keeps you there with each word written on the page. The Fifth Magic is continually sustaining the inhabitants of Alda, but with the Black Gnarl is also growing in power, and its Obscure Throne’s Eldritch inheritors have their own plot and schemes going on as well. I can’t wait to see what happens in book 3, and the conclusion to this story!

I began this series in book two and was lost, so to really enjoy and understand I had to leave this book and start with the first. I am so glad I did because this is one of my new favorite series and will give all of Russel Archey’s works a chance, hoping he dazzles me like he did with this series.
It began in book one with a tear in the sky that allowed a much darker world to leak into Alda. Book two is a continuation of the chronicling of the dying world told from all different characters. There is so much dread and adventure in this series that you can’t shake it from your mind just because it is finished. I only wish I had book three out because I keep reliving my favorite tales and impatiently waiting for more.
This is one of my new favorite authors in my already favorite genre – a rare find!

This is book two to the series The Obscured Throne Trilogy, this book picked right up from the first book. This book is a dark horror fantasy in the land of Alda. This has multiple different viewpoints of each character; it goes thou their struggles to survive in this post-apocalyptic world. The rupture destroyed the world and the magical Aldyr trees. This book is filled with so much from suspense, drama, mystery, magic, secrets, danger that it will be hard to put down. It was so vivid like the first book it makes you feel like you are right there beside the characters, feeling, and doing what they are doing. I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn’t wait to know what was going to happen next. This book had me invested and intrigued till the end. Highly recommend reading the very first book. Cannot wait till book three.

I loved the first book ‘Ashes of Aldyr’ in the Obscured Throne trilogy so I was really excited to read this book. The author has a very vivid writing style and I am all for it. You get transported into an apocalyptic world filled with evil beings. It feels like you are in there yourself. With each different character’s story, I felt my heart beat harder than usual with fear and hope.

A mage, tricked into a wild goose chase of a rescue mission, a dwarf haunted by his dead wife, strange horned creatures and a forbidden village and much more!

Some stories are dark with an unhappy ending, some are more hopeful. I really enjoyed reading what was going to happen next. The only hope is magic users of the fifth sect. Far and few between can the world be saved?

I cannot wait to read the final book of the trilogy!

Ghosts of Alda is a fantasy book, the second in the Obscured Throne Trilogy. It’s worth reading the series in order, so start with Ashes of Aldyr then come to this book.

This is a post-apocalyptic story set in a fantasy world, where the connection between beings, magic and nature exacerbates the impact of ecological disaster. The book moves between different characters’ stories, showing how different individuals have been affected and are trying to move forwards after the Rupture. It’s dark at times, but there is plenty of optimism running through.

I particularly enjoyed the mysteries surrounding the Fifth Sect of magic. This had me intrigued early on and it was great fun piecing together more information as I encountered different characters’ perspectives!

This book gets five stars from me! I’d recommend it to fans of high fantasy looking for something big to get your teeth into.

This is a fantastic follow up to the first book in the series and I couldn’t wait to start reading it. I loved delving into this continuation of the story and refamiliarizing myself with the characters. I would definitely suggest reading these books in order. As with the first, this book is well written, creative and utterly engaging. It took no effort for me to connect with this world again. I thought the story followed on so well, it really didn’t feel like anytime between reading the first book and the second.
The characters in this book feel like they have been carefully selected to create an imaginative story. They weave so well together and are all interesting to read about. I enjoyed every part of reading about them. This book is fantastic and well written. I cannot wait for more.

Ghosts of Alda is Book Two in The Obscured Throne Trilogy. It picks up where the first book left off so you will want to make certain that you have read book one or you might feel a bit lost. It is a dark horror fantasy that takes place in the Land of Alda. Telling the story from multiple points of view we learn of each character’s struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic style world after The Rupture destroyed their world and the sacred, magical aldyr trees. Evil forces have taken control of Alda and held it in its grip with the Black Gnarl being at the center of it all. Their may be hope for the Land of Alda and its inhabitants because good forces are being sustained by the Fifth magic. Will the good forces be able to save them or will evil continue to destroy everything they know? This is a gripping tale full of danger, suspense, drama, mystery, intrigue, magic, and dark secrets. The author has done a masterful job of crafting vivid imagery that fully immerses you into the story and characters that you quickly become invested in. Anxiously looking forward to book three in this series.

~ The Horrors of Alda Continue ~

I have been looking forward to the second book in this series for awhile…and I am so stoked to have gotten the chance to read it! As with the first book in the Obscured Throne series, I don’t typically read dark fantasy. However this series seemed to whisper to me in a way I simply couldn’t resist. Ghosts of Alda by Russell Archey lived up to my expected hype, which was incredibly gripping from the beginning through to the end, I seriously couldn’t put it down!!!

The reader gets transported through several different character perspectives, each one not only haunting but also very well developed. I found myself lost in their tales. You learn more about the evil that is gripping the world of Alda, and the Black Gnarl at it’s center. We find out that the good forces, are being sustained by the Fifth magic, could there be hope after all? The Obscured Throne’s Eldritch Inheritors stand in the way though, they are elusive horrors worthy of any fright night tales.

Russell once again did an amazing job putting you right there in the world of Alda…hang on, because as you read you may find your spine tingling with fear right alongside the humans, dwarves, and elves in the realm of Alda.

Ghosts of Alda is the second book in The Obscured Thorne fantasy Trilogy. I said it before, but I will say it again Russell’s work reminds me of Tolkien works. I found myself immersed in this post-apocalyptic world.
This riveting tale is fast paced and intriguing. The world building, Russell’s imagination and the character development are all well-crafted. Multilayered threads have been woven together to create a multi-faceted world that is steeped in evil. The Ghosts of Alda shows world in ruin and people who are trying to save themselves from an evil entity.
Ghosts of Alda is an original and unique action-packed adventure story that kept me engaged and the pages turning. The book is a nice blending of dystopian fantasy with the right amount of darkness, and intensity that had me on the edge of my seat.
I am definitely hooked on this Trilogy now and looking forward to the third and final book.
The story has you wondering where Russell will take us next.

Ghosts of Alda is the second spell-binding book in The Obscured Throne Trilogy by Russell Archey. I am loving this fantastic series so much- after reading book one and developing a bit of an addiction for Mr. Archey’s work I couldn’t wait to continue what we started in the first instalment, so when this second instalment released, I put aside everything else I was doing/reading and plunged right in.
This continues the intriguing adventure we began in the previous book- fully immersing us in a vividly detailed dark fantasy with a bit of a dystopian feel, plenty of action, drama, secrets, revelations, magic, agendas, mystery, suspense, emotion, and interesting characters- all woven into a rich, captivating, complex, and multi-layered plot.
As with the first book, I love Mr. Archey’s epic storytelling talent, writing style, and his ability to completely capture my attention- immersing me so completely in his story that the ‘real world’ ceased to exist- and for me that is the mark of a truly skilled writer. He packs so much into his story, crafting an epic tale that came to life before my eyes as his world building skills are excellent- everything seemed so real and believable, it was easy to imagine everything he was describing, like it was playing out on a screen, not words written on a page. And as with the previous book, I can see this making a great movie or television series.
The storyline is entirely unique, with lots of dramatic developments and other clever and unique touches that made the story quite gripping- a real page turner. It is told from multiple perspectives, which gives the story extra depth as well as added intrigue. I love the cast of character, each one is cleverly crafted into a fully developed individual with their own unique personalities, quirks, and flaws. They definitely were the ‘stars’ of the show here. I was fully invested in them and the outcome of their story.
As I mentioned previously, I am hooked on this trilogy now and can’t wait to see where we go from here. If you love fantasy with a darker, edgier feel- then this is definitely the series for you- but I highly recommend reading the first book before starting on this one as there is a lot of important information, storyline, and character details that you should know before you embark on this second instalment to fully appreciate the adventure.
Bring on Book #3!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Russell Archey!

This is actually the first book I’m reading by this author. I have to go back and read book 1. However I must say this is by far one of the most creatively written books I’ve read this year. I could visualize everything the author described it. I could feel the fear the characters felt. I was dang near on the edge of my seat the entire time. At first I was a tad frustrated because every chapter focused on a different character and time. However it all came together nicely at the end. Im a little heartbroken that one of the characters I fell in love with had such a fate bestowed on her. But it made the story that much more impactful. I hope the good guys win in the last book. Definitely a 9/10.

This is the second book in this series which I highly suggest reading the previous book as well. It will help with your enhancement of the characters but of the author’s writing skills as well. This is a well written story where the characters will take you on an adventure. They pull you into their world and keep you engaged throughout. A story that is meant to give the world hope and having a true purpose revealed. I enjoyed how creative these characters are. They are strong, supportive characters that have great growth throughout which added to the story’s entertainment value. They pull you in their adventure with ease and had me wanting to know more about what would happen. I enjoyed how the author used details to make the story realistic which made it easy to read. This is a great story that I enjoyed reading. I highly recommend this book.

This was a fascinating book. I found myself getting lost in the book as I followed on the magical journey. I found the characters and details quite fascinating. Honestly, I enjoyed this book much more than the ones like the Lord of the Rings. The author gives details that make it so much easier to picture in your mind. The beginning is my favorite. Picturing the wilting forest. I loved the storyline because it engaged me. My mind was engaged through the whole story. This author writes in a way has you picturing the story in your mind. From everything I’ve read recently, that just doesn’t happen much anymore. I’m thrilled to have had the next book in this series to read. I can’t wait for the next. Really, you should read this series, I can’t tell you more. You must experience this for yourself. It’s really that good.

Russell Archey has been writing since he was old enough to hold a pencil. His love for narratives, world-building, and story-telling has fed into nearly every aspect of his life: from his video and board game hobbies to pressing his most cherished books onto his unfortunate children (who will, one day, read the Lord of the Rings trilogy whether they like it or not). When he’s not creating new worlds and horrifying things to threaten them with destruction, he’s bringing other author’s fantastic works to life as an audio book narrator, spending time with his two children, and pressing his dear wife’s eternal patience with his quirky habits.
