Looking for a short novel to pull at ALL of your heart strings? HERE IT IS!!!!! The story line is beautiful. How this family goes on a lovely trip to reconcile broken bonds. This novel is very well put together. The way that Sharon makes sure to touch on each character just the right amount, it makes this booka very enjoyable read. It does have some very sad parts but they way it is written you feel like part of the family and like you are there. This was a fantastic read!

This book will make you cry, make you smile, make you thank God for the people you have but most of all it will warm your soul. This is several short stories placed together with some wonderful poems put in at the most perfect times.
Here you meet Krista, Merci and Lacey. Merci promises her grandmother shortly before she passes on that she will take the trip that has been planned for months with her mom and aunt and make them reconcile.
This book opens up the struggles they are all three having, not just with one another but with their faith. If you’ve been there you know exactly what that is like. If you’ve experienced a close loss of a family member you can feel the emotions in this book.

The Promised Plan was my first book by this author, and it was an absolute whirlwind of emotions for me. I loved the flow of this story and the way that the characters felt incredibly real. You really go on this journey the moment you open the book. I feel like every family has their own issues and works through them accordingly, but this story tells of a beautiful redemption and strong bonds. Prepare yourself for an amazingly woven journey where the deepest parts of their faith are tested. I highly recommend picking this one up. I can’t wait to see what Sharon Hughson has in store for us next!

A middle child with two sisters and a mother that passed away from cancer this past October, you’d probably assume I would want to steer clear of this book but I was really drawn in by the synopsis. Adult relationships are complex, especially those of mother/daughter and sibling variety and I really felt like the characters were very well written with great depth to them. I really enjoyed that the story is written in multiple perspectives and allowed for a glimpse in each character’s mind. While an emotional read, this book was truly inspirational and uplifting with several glimpses of hope and lessons that while things might not work out like you planned them, they might just work out the way they’re meant to. I really found comfort in this author’s writing style and would read more from her again.

Not exactly sure what was the cause but a rift has settled between her daughter’s, Ruth makes a plan to take a vacation with her two daughters and one granddaughter to see if she can do something to heal it. The only problem is that Ruth is dying of cancer. She might not make the trip. As Ruth’s family gather for her birthday, she makes Merci, the granddaughter, promise that she will ensure the trip will happen if Ruth is there or not.
As the trip gets closer, the chasm between sisters has only gotten bigger. Merci is worried that she won’t be able to convince her mom to go on the trip. Merci is also hiding things from her family. She has decided that she will reveal them on this trip.
This heart wrenching story is from the POVs of all women involved. Each gets their say. Each gets to reveal their truth. An overarching theme is their faith, how that gets each through the hard times. One even faces a battle of questioning God and her faith due to the actions of others.
This story of love and family is beautifully told. Although not my usual fare, the story is just the get lost in your feels, tear-jerking, redemption story of sisterhood that would be best read on a beach with the warm breeze quickly drying the tears off your cheeks or in a garden of blooming posies.

The Promised Plan was a little hard for me to read, because the main character has cancer- and my grandmother died of cancer. It brought back some hard memories of those times, so perhaps trigger warning to those who have been through it. Its not graphic, just was reminiscent for me. The book focuses around a woman with cancer, and it has torn her (adult) daughters apart. She plans a trip of a lifetime, as a girls trip with 3 generations. Unfortunately she passes away before the trip takes place. Everyone wants to fulfill their promise to take the trip, in honor of their mother/grandmother. But, all are unsure if the trip will achieve the goal of bringing everyone back together, or if it will be miserable as everyone fights. All in all, I loved the story and am glad to have read it. Read for yourself to see how the trip goes.

This was a soul puncher and an eye opener. As a mom of young kids and a step mom to older kids, I am constantly on my kids about sticking together. I am not disillusioned and maybe a little jaded in that I’m not going to force someone to have another in their life just because they’re family, BUT, siblings should be there for each other. And if I can instill this loving and supportive relationship for each other onto them then I am leaving them better for it! This collection of tales broke me, healed me, and was thought inducing to say the least. To think of what our family would look like after we are gone, to have seen for myself siblings essentially fall apart after losing our matriarch, wasnt something I thought too heavily about. This was so eloquently put together and so, so, so impactful! I felt every emotion under the sun and felt empathy grow exponentially. Great read and for moms or those who have lost their moms, this is a really good read!!

I am a “judge a book by its cover” kinda gal. This beautiful cover is truly what drew me into reading this novel. This was my first time reading a novel by Sharon Hughson and I am so glad that I picked this one. The characters are lovable and relatable. The realistic story line and events these characters endure are heartfelt. There were many times I sympathized with each character on many different levels. I really wished the sisters could have reconciled their differences before Ruth’s passing but that’s the nature of the beast. Sometimes we humans just have to learn the hard way. Sometimes something unwanted has to happen for us to realize what we are missing out on. Overall, I truly enjoyed The Promised Plan and I will not hesitate to recommend this quick, easy read to a friend.

This book is told from the perspectives of four women. Through this story their friendships are tested, their loyalty is shaken and all in all they are going through struggles. These characters are so relatable and written so well. I definitely felt for each of them as I went through the story. This book gives a wonderful look at how grief hits everyone differently and at different times. This is such a well written book and one that I definitely recommend. It takes you on such an emotional ride but it is well worth it.

Wonderful heartfelt journey as sister navigate grief differently and their animosity toward each other that led to no contact with each other and a mother who never gave up trying to rebuild their relationship again.
Lacey and Krista’s mother wanted to take one last trip to Victoria BC along with Lacey’s daughter, Merci. When God has other plans for this family, the heartbreak that this family endures is unfathomable. Merci promised her grandmother to continue and go on the planned tripped that she always dreamed of. When anger, grief, hurt, questioning of faith and miscommunication come out, will Lacey and Krista be able to be the loving sisters whom were also best friends again?
This story hit a bit home and is very raw and real. The author did a wonderful job especially navigating grief, death and also faith along with the emotions of sisters whom lost their loved one.

This is a poignant novel with bittersweet happiness. The setting in the Pacific Northwest for The Promised Plan makes me miss home! I wondered why Ruth didn’t push for her daughters to reconcile prior to her cancer treatment and diagnosis. As the story progressed, I could see how not having much time left on earth was a motivation to not leave things left undone/unsaid. A mother’s love for her children is one of those universal truths that make an excellent story!

It is a quick read, but it’s worth the read. The realistic display of faith is very refreshing. This isn’t a Christian book that’s corny and filled with fluff. This is a story of loss, grief and rebuilding relationships. It is not an easy read as it tears at your heart – knowing that sisterbond, and mother daughter bond can so easily be broken. I liked how the author shows us all sides of the story through the short chapters from each perspective. It helps to understand what all the characters are feeling, thinking and going through and it really shows that we don’t know deep down what someone else is going through – even our own sister. The setting of the story is beautiful – I especially liked the garden the visit in Canada.

This book is a beauty story about grief, family and connection. It is such a moving story and emotional on every level. This book is entirely about the characters and their journeys – both individual and combined. Each of them were so different and yet their connection brought them together and forged a story so deep. This is the first book that I have read from this author and I am impressed with the level and style of writing. This book drew me in entirely and I had to see it through to the end. It felt like I was there with the characters, going on the journey with them. I loved every minute of this book and I cannot wait to read more from this author.

An emotional and engaging read, which kept me captivated throughout. The storyline centres around a mother’s determination to help her daughters to reconcile, but her planned intervention never happens, and it becomes her dying wish instead. The story is told through a collection of connected short stories and poems. The plot explores a family’s journey through loss, death and grief, and so it does take you on an emotional rollercoaster whilst reading it. However, the characters are so well defined that I felt engaged with them. Main characters, Mercedes and Lacey Bloom, along with Krista White all go on a journey of discovery as they try and heal their difficult relationships. The setting, which was partially set in beautiful Victoria, BC, was brought vividly to life by the descriptive narrative, making me feel immersed in the story. I found this to be an inspirational story about loss and grief, but overall it’s a story of family relationships, and one which I would recommend.

This is a very emotional read but one that might help someone struggling with loss.
Krista and Lacey are sisters who’ve lost their way with each other. Life has dealt them a series of blows that have cost them a lifelong friendship, not to mention a family bond. When they are faced with the tragedy of losing their mother, this bond is even further apart.
Mercedes is the daughter of Lacey and made an agreement with her grandmother on her deathbed that she would see to it that the sisters make a trip that they’d been talking about for over a year.
When neither sister wants to make this trip, it’s up to Merci to get them to go. But then, Merci has some secret that she’s keeping that she does not want revealed either.
This is a story of love, loss, redemption, and forgiveness. Lacey and Krista are like fire and ice. They clash over so many things but they are ultimately just “things” that get in the way of a great relationship.
I recommend this book for anyone who is going through the fires of loss, disappointment, or feeling lonely/discouraged. This book will bring about a different perspective on life when it can be seen through the eyes of another. This is loosely based on a true story with the author and the way this was penned was just beautiful. There is a religious element that was such an important thread to this story!

The Promised Plan by Sharon Hughson. This is such a beautiful set of short stories that are absolutely heartbreaking. Its the story of 2 sisters who have become estranged and their mom makes a plan to reconnect them with her granddaughter but before she can see her plan come to fruition she passes away. Especially when their daughter/niece wants them to make up because she told her grandma she would help. The Promised Plan is an interweaving of short stories and poems and tells the story of grief, loss, estrangement, and familial relationships. It is a gut wrenching read full of raw emotions and feelings that will leave you in tears. This is a story that I know many, including myself, can relate to. As a mother we all want for our children to be close so when an estrangement occurs between siblings it can be difficult for a mother.
This story centers around a mother who devises a plan to reconcile her daughters but passes away before she is able to do so. As her dying wish she enlists the help of her granddaughter, Merci, to help her get her daughters to reconcile. Lacey attempts to keep estranged from her sister Krista, until her daughter intervenes. She risks disappointing and hurting her daughter if she does not try to forgive her sister. Can these women come together and reconcile after losing their mother? Or will hurt, anger, and hard feelings keep them estranged?
The author beautifully tells the story of how hurt, disagreements, and misunderstandings can occur between siblings. The result is not just estrangement between the siblings, but it causes a ripple effect through the family that can cause feelings of anger, betrayal, and sadness. After losing their mother Lacey and Krista must decide if they can push the hurt, guilt, and anger behind them and forgive one another in order to reconcile. The story hits home for me because of my relationship with my sibling so this was a difficult and emotional read for me. This book will take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions as the author navigates through the difficult topics of death, grief, loss, familial relationships, estrangement, secrets, lies, anger, betrayal, hurt, forgiveness, and reconciliation. I highly recommend this book!

This was a very moving and emotional read. It contains poems and is like short stories bit it all covers the same topic. It’s a story of one families way of dealing with the loss of their mother/ wife/grandmother. Such a huge loss in a family can make friction and arguments even worse as everyone tries to deal with their grief in their own way. Resentment can build and push people further apart at the time they should be the closest they have ever been. When their mum passed Krista and Lacey were already not on speaking terms. These once close sisters have a wedge between them that needs to be fixed and before their mum passed she had a plan to do just that. However fate intervened and their mum didn’t make it to see her daughters reconcile. That is now down to the granddaughter to execute this plan and hopefully repair the damage. This story is a story of grief, guilt, shame, dealing with all of these issues and some unresolved issues that have pushed the sisters apart. This book is a very open and honest look at grief and dealing with loss. At times it’s not pretty as the sisters struggle with resentment towards God, the circumstances and even each other as well as feelings of guilt that they could have done more. It is a beautifully open honest look into a family torn apart by loss and grief and the hope that no matter what things can become better and conflicts can be resolved.

The Promised Plan is a few very short stories and poems by Sharon Hughson. It is an intriguing and heartfelt journey through death and loss, relationships. It’s every mothers wish for all her children to get along but being a realist you know that with very different personalities that it is not always the case. One mother’s dying wish and last-ditch effort to reunite her family doesn’t go ahead as planned when her time comes up. There is heartache and heartbreak, pain and sorrow, angst and hope, guilt and grief, redemption and reconciliation, secrets and lies, forgiveness. Losing a mother will either make or break sibling relationships and often comes with the guilt of things left unsaid, things you wished you had done and the wish for things to be better. Will they follow through and make one woman ’s final wish come together, or will the secrets and guilt keep them from mending boundaries? The story is well written, and Sharon makes the characters feel real. It is easy to get lost in the story and feel their emotions. Travel along with three women who struggle to open themselves up and regain what once was. You won’t be disappointed.

This book is an inspiration sent to bless lives. It is a book that will have you feeling many emotions. I will tell you to keep tissue nearby. I love good, clean writing that is meant to inspire. This novel brings two sisters together with the help of Marci, the daughter of one of the sisters and the help of their mother. We all have baggage and there is no shortage of it in this book. Issues have happened and feelings have been hurt. It’s time to fix things. I love the premise of the story. I love how it was written in short stories. Marci is a wonderful and strong character trying to make sure her grandmother’s wishes are carried out. I loved this story and it will be going in my personal library. It reminded me of my mom and was a wonderful read for Mother’s Day 2023.
