Forbidden Mate (The Shadow Chronicles Book 2) by CR Robertson – Review by Ayla Phipps

Forbidden Mate (The Shadow Chronicles)Forbidden Mate by C.R. Robertson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Revelations. Okay book two takes everything and bumps it up several notches. This book begins a few months after the events at the end of the first book. Once again CR Robertson pulls you in and after a slightly slow start you can hardly get a breath.
In the few months since the confrontation with the hellspawns Tasha and Levi have found a sense of normalcy in their crazy world. Levi holding true to finding a way for them to be together publicly and not having to be apart for another ten years while finishing their conscriptions. While at the end of book one Tasha could still feel the dull hum of the creatures killing the vampires and Lycans she could hear them at times. Knowing they must be regrouping the vampires and Lycans made agreements of sorts that ends the war between them to combine to beat the common enemy before them. In the first book it is also revealed that due to the moon goddess making Tasha and Levi fated mates, she was changed to a deeper level allowing her to walk in the sun. Only she and Levi know this and go to great lengths at times to keep it that way. The chaos of war tomorrow is promised to know one. Grasping every moment with Levi, Tasha fears a world without him. Learning more about the secrets of her coven Tasha begins to learn how much of her life was based on lies and half-truths of those that held power.
How far will Castus go to claim what was never his? Can the Vampires and Lycans succeed at defeating the hellspawns? Once again, the world the author creates is one of total intrigue that pulls you into the world beside the characters. The characters continue to develop and grow as they experience more than what seems possible to overcome but they survive by sticking together through it all. While reading the first book the love story seemed to be at the center and to a degree it is, but the fact is that it is the war that is the focus that has encompassed both species for so long that the purpose of the war is long forgotten. Tasha and Levi’s story is the light in the war that makes everything worth overcoming the evil lurking in the muck. I cannot wait to begin book three, Forbidden Moon, to see how Tasha and Levi’s story continues and what they will overcome.

Forbidden Wolf (The Shadow Chronicles Book 1) by CR Robertson – Review by Ayla Phipps

Forbidden WolfForbidden Wolf by C.R. Robertson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Intricate complexity. This is the first book I have read by the talented C.R. Robertson, and I feel it was the perfect series for me personally to be introduced to her work. Forbidden Wolf is the first book in the Shadow Chronicles series. It is a supernatural retelling of Romeo and Juliet to a degree. Told primarily from Tasha’s perspective we are given glimpses of Levi’s letting the reader know he feels the same as her.
Vampire Tasha is about to turn twenty-one, the age for conscription into the army, to fight in a war she doesn’t believe in. Lycan Levi is also twenty-one and about to join his species army for the war when during their last summer everything changes. Tasha was never like the other girls her age; boys never really caught her attention, but she was prepared for the next twenty years to carry out her duty to her coven and species. Twenty years being mandatory service time in the army and breeding programs before being allowed to follow your own specialties or to be free. Levi is different from the others in his pack. He has black fur and mentions that the color of your wolf is tied to your abilities, he is often left alone. One fateful night changes everything either of them had been raised to believe. Thinking the bite of the other would kill them Tasha and Levi indulge in conversation with the enemy, but after talking and he protects her from the sun she is conflicted and questioning everything she had ever been told. Levi was stunned by the creature that is Tasha, he had been raised believing vampires were savage monsters and yet she was the gentlest, most caring thing he had ever seen. A plan for twenty years when their mandatory conscription is over, they will meet in Paris under the Eiffel Tower and once again just be lovers having a reunion. Time jumps accord five years and then ten. Ten years later Tasha and Levi are reunited on the battlefield. Both species are being savagely slaughtered by something new.
Ten years have passed, do they still feel the same for each other? Can Levi and Tasha succeed in finding out what is killing everyone they know? Will they rekindle what they had that summer in the forest? The world the author describes not only conjures the images in your mind but sometimes the smells. The characters leave nothing and everything on the table, their complexity not only personally but how they interact and react to the same situations is relatable and understandable. Once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down and now I cannot wait to begin book two, Forbidden Mate, to see what happens next for Tasha and Levi and how they confront what’s coming next.

I really enjoyed returning to this world and further exploring it. Kimber and Fabian’s story is full adventure and of course love. Their journey to finding a happy ending had some dangers and many twists and turns but they came out alright in the end. This author has created a vibrant story and I look forward to reading more from her.

Forbidden Blood by C.R. Robertson- 5 out of 5 stars

Forbidden Blood is the fourth installment of The Shadow Chronicles. That being said, this is the first installment I have read. Not only is this book fast-paced, action-packed, and drool worthy but it also functioned great as a stand alone! I had a hard time putting it down.
Kimber’s life became a whirlwind of new possibilities when a mystery man entered her life. She had been treated as a weapon and kept captive for years. Fabian showed her compassion and understanding as her powers grew day by the day. He was the only person who had ever believed in her. He made her feel safe while encouraging Kimber to reach her full powerful potential.
I loved it!

Kimber has been hidden away for the majority of her life. When she gets to her tipping point, she finds her destiny in Fabian. He sees her for who she really is and teachers her how to come into her power to take her rightful place in the role of the war they are in. Everything isn’t simple though and there are other entities at play that have only been watching for far too long; refusing to intervene. Can Kimber reach her full potential before they can be ripped apart? Or are they doomed to find each other only to lose everything to the war at hand?

I really enjoy this series. I love seeing the characters find their people and new ways to beat back evil. Fabian was a wonderful addition to the storyline. He brings his unique perspective to the table and calls out a lot of mistaken thought processes. He single handedly manages to baffle every one of the team at one point or another too. I look forward to more of this series!

I really didn’t think that I would be in love with a paranormal romance series like I am with this one. I have red all 4 books and I have not been disappointed since. I highly recommend that you start from the beginning because this book starts with Tasha’s sister Kimber. The first three books focused on Tasha’s story and now this book starts in with Kimber so you might feel a little lost or not understand fully on what is going on when something is being brought up in the story line. These stories are amazingly written and so vivid with details scenes that they really make you feel like you’re standing there watching and, in the story, right along with everyone else. The book (and series) had me once again hooked from the very first page and I couldn’t bring myself to put it down till I was done reading.

I was so excited for Kimber to get her own book when she was introduced in book one. Kimber is another interesting character. Her family has kept her secret for most of her life. Seeing her as weak and useless, until she comes into her power. She is then conscripted into the vampire army, and her coven leader finds out about her powers. Enter Fabian. He is a shaman that is supposed to help maintain balance, but evil has woven it’s way into this organization so it’s hard to know who is friend and who is foe. The character’s chemistry when they are introduced to each other is off the charts! I loved the continuation of the story from their perspective and the series just keeps getting better and better! I loved this book just as much as the others and I hope she keeps going!

I thoroughly enjoy this series. Reading about Kimber and Fabian’s romance was heartwarming and thrilling. I love how much the supernatural creatures mix. They love who they want and they break barriers. It gets a tad steamy but nothing too raunchy, there’s lots of action, and I couldn’t help but keep reading. Definitely a great read for those who love the paranormal.

I was sooo happy to see this book come out! I love the world this author has created and missed these wonderful characters. It is full of danger, suspense and paranormals. The first half was a little slow for me. I liked the insight into the male lead but got bored. The second half is all fire and brimstone and action filled and I could not read it fast enough!

I got to see some new characters and hang out with old friends. Dominic is stll a treat to watch and when he hangs with the gang he becomes feisty, crazy and curious. His dialogue made me laugh so many times but he also shows his serious old soul a time or two. I really saw Kimber grow in here. She went from a whiney loner to a strong woman. I could really *feel* it near the end just rolling off the letters.

Overall a great addition to the series! I loved so much about this one. One of my favorite scenes involved his house. Its alive! It shifts, rejects or welcomes people. I liked it a lot. I can’t wait for more as I am hoping more elemental sorceress will be found (hopefully for Dominic haha).

I was immediately drawn into this story; it was exellently written with great character and world development. I was able to read the book out of order without issue but I will add that reading the series in order would definitely help as there is an overall story that carries through the series as well as characters back story’s that were introduced previously. But if you’re like me and just can’t wait, I would recommend this book regardless of the reading order.

I devoured this book late into the wee hours of the morning. I could not put it down. This is the story of Kimber and The Watcher.

Kimber has been through the gambit suffering at the hand of Castus. He is now dead and she is dealing with her suffering. Her family has always treated Kimber like the weak girl needing to be protected by everything around her. Her visions are still rendering her incapable of withstanding their pain. In this book, Kimber meets the Watcher and this changes her life forever.

So much tension filled pages as the group of our old favourite characters join together to battle the hellspawn and other magical beings. If you enjoyed the past books, you gobble this one up as well. I loved this one the most.

This is a must read.

I fell in love with this series as soon as I started reading the first book. Tasha and Levi were forbidden mates who opened the door for others to branch out from within the confines of their own races. When I found out this time, one of the main characters was Kimber, Tasha’s younger sister, I was beyond excited.

Kimber went through so much at such a young age that my heart ached for her in the previous books. Her abuser is now dead but she still has the remnants of trauma caused by her past. Kimber is trying to figure out who she is and where she fits in. She knows she is different from the other vampires and feels she is useless compared to her sister Tasha.

Kimber has no idea how strong she truly is. Her magical powers are rare and almost unheard of nowadays. She is one of a kind and when Fabian sets his eyes on her for the first time, he recognizes this instantly.

Fabian is a shaman, a race that has been around for a very long time, balancing the supernatural all while hidden in the background. This includes magical creatures and magic in general. It’s also his job to protect the Earth from the hellspawn that are all of a sudden appearing everywhere. Fabian is just what Kimber needs to embrace herself. The duo are perfect for each other but can they withstand the many obstacles in their way? While defeating the hellspawn along the way?

I loved both characters instantly. I picture Kimber as this cute and shy girl on the outside with a fiery and powerful inside. Meanwhile Fabian cares about everything and gives everyone a chance to prove themselves. Even hellhounds.

The author once again has done an amazing job with creating this paranormal world of Vampires, Lycans, hellspawns, and now introducing more characters along the way. I really enjoy their style of writing. If you haven’t read this series, I suggest stopping what you are doing and start reading!

This is the fourth book in the Shadow Chronicles series and focuses on Kimber’s story. I’m so glad we get to see things from Kimber’s perspective as I was always so curious about her and the true extent of what she went through.

Kimber and Fabian are great. Kimber really comes into her own with Fabian’s help and I couldn’t be happier to watch her develop!

As usual I love the author’s way of writing, it flows well and is easy to follow. In addition to this, the descriptive writing allows you to step into the world they inhabit to join Kimber and Fabian in their journey.

I love their chemistry the believability of their actions and thoughts and their character development beginning to end. They face more obstacles in their battle against the hellspawn and I enjoyed being on their journey with them.

Loved being there with Tasha and Levi as they face not only the old obstacles but the new ones. They still have the chemistry I love and the development as they continue to find out secrets and discover more of the enemy.

This was a great instalment to this series. It focused mainly on Kimber who up until now we’ve only seen a bit of. Most of the series was focused on Tasha so this was refreshing. A new character was introduced whom I loved, Fabian. He is a shaman but is called many other names as well. He is powerful, kind and helps Kimber break out of her shell. This is their love story. It is definitely not an easy one. They have many obstacles in their way, too many creatures want to kill them. Will they get a happy ending?

Vampires and Lycans are finally working together against a common enemy. There are so many different hellsoawn. They are struggling to keep up to kill them all. They kill one and many more return. With the entrance of Fabian, he teaches them a lot. This book is filled with action, drama and plenty of secrets are revealed. This is definitely a must read but I suggest that you start at the beginning.

This is the 4th book in The Shadow Chronicles series. I completely love this paranormal romance series. A mixture or vampires and lycans with added danger means these stories are definately a great read.
I highly recommend reading this series in order so you can get the complete story. The author has done a great job with these stories and the character growth in each book keeps me reading time and time again.

We are back with Kimber. She has now become of age and is ready to join the vampire army. Her family has kept her hidden and protected until now. Kimber had special magical gifts which she needs to keep hidden from her leader
However when he discovers them she becomes just another pawn in the deadly war that is raging on. However when she meets a dark King this could all change.
With danger, Suspense, magic, Romance, hidden agendas and corruption this book is definately a page turner for anyone who love paranormal stories with a side helping of romance.

“ She was an addiction I never anticipated, but I would slaughter anyone who even contemplated harming her. ”

“ I followed Kimber out the door into the inky darkness of the night, because for her alone I would break all the rules and cloak myself in death. ”

Colour me a happy little bookworm right now. This right here is pure paranormal perfection!! One of my top three books for the year so far!!! All the stars!!!!
Forbidden Blood is the spellbinding fourth instalment in The Shadow Chronicles by C.R Robertson. I devoured the first three books and they immediately hit my favourites list, so to say I was excited to get my hands on this fourth instalment is a bit of an understatement. I shoved everything else I was reading aside, and plunged right in to submerge myself in the story. I was so engrossed in everything that it only took me a couple of hours to read it as I practically inhaled it. I got to the end and turned around and started it again- it was THAT GOOD!!!
I had such high expectations for this book, as I adored the previous books (well lets be honest here, I have read and adored ALL Ms. Robertsons books) so this had a lot to live up to. But, again, Ms. Robertson didn’t disappoint conjuring an incredibly riveting read that has taken my addiction to C.R Robertson’s work to a whole new high- but it’s an addiction I have no intention of quitting any time, ever! This is definitely another jewel to add to Ms. Robertson’s crown.
Even though this is the fourth book in the series, it could be read as a stand alone if you wished. But in saying that, you would be seriously missing out on some spellbinding reading if you didn’t read the first three books- plus there is some continuing story arc as well as some shared timeline and other details that you will want to have on board to be able to fully appreciate this exciting instalment, and the series as a whole.
This is Kimber and Fabian’s story- we met Kimber previously as she is Tasha’s younger sister (Tasha and Levi’s story was in the previous three books). Kimber has never felt like she belonged. Always felt like she wasn’t ‘enough’. Always felt like she lived in the shadow of her older, more talented and capable sister. But fate has had its own plan for her all along, and the time has come for her destiny to be unleashed. Get set, because Kimber’s world is about to take a very intriguing turn. Add a swoony, smouldering, mysteriously sexy man to the mix, and the sparks fly.
This is a fast-paced, action-packed, adrenaline fuelled, paranormal romance, with a complex, multi-layered, and addictive storyline. The story is incredible, with vampires, shifters, Lycans, magic, different realms, demon hellspawn, witches, sizzling chemistry, politics, agendas, drama, danger, secrets, paranormal beings, battle/fight scenes, violence, adventure, sizzling encounters, fated mates, forbidden romance, and incredibly high stakes.
Again, I absolutely love Ms. Robertson’s take on Vampire lore, her imagination knows no bounds, and tells a very compelling and exciting story.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED READING!!! Seriously, if you love fantasy, paranormal romance, or just love being immersed in a spellbinding adventure- then you will really want to get your hands on this book/series, STAT! You really won’t be disappointed! But prepared for the massive heat wave and the addiction that will come with it!!
I am so excited to see what comes next…. Book #5 can’t come quickly enough!!!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, C.R Robertson!

I love C.R Robertson’s writing so I was jumping with joy when I saw this new book was out.
Forbidden Blood is the fourth masterfully crafted book in the amazing original Shadow Chronicles by C.R. Robertson. Who doesn’t love a good story that is full of Lycans and Vampires. This series just keeps getting better and better sometimes 5 stars doesn’t seem enough.
This engrossing paranormal forbidden romance story has something for supernatural lovers and as with the other books in the series it will blow you away. CR’s writing paints a vivid picture each and every character and the world building and wordsmithing allows my imagination to run with the possibilities.
Forbidden Blood is action packed, danger and secrets, drama and adventure, paranormal creatures, magical beings, fated mates and magic.
Pawns are being used in a deadly game of war where there are hidden agendas, corruption and where evil is lurking.
This paranormal suspense is a sweet seduction at its best. It is so easy to get swept up in this journey and pulled into this world. This cleverly woven tale is pulled together with multiple layers and complex threads that kept me glued to the pages.
I really can’t wait for more.
