My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Undying Light is the first book in the new paranormal fantasy series entitled The Stella Maris Series by Aurora Wildey. Within its pages you find magic, adventure, danger, intrigue, and a whole lot of suspense as characters try to keep secrets hidden.

There are three primary characters, Kaela, Terran, and Seth, who have a bit of a love triangle as the two men both try to protect Kaela. You get to see more of all of their thoughts and actions as the book is written with different povs. Each chapter is marked with whose POV we are in at that moment. Books written in this format can be a little confusing at times, but the author handles it well.

Kaela would probably be dead had Terran not swooped in and saved her, but he was seriously injured in the process, causing Kaela to reveal her guarded secret that she has healing powers. Terran, a werewolf, also hides his true nature, because they would be killed if anyone knew about them. While she uses her powers, Seth senses her as she is one of his kind and he hunts her down. When her life is threatened a 2nd time, both Seth and Terran want to protect her and try to block one another, as neither trusts the other. This leaves Kaela more confused than ever, because who is she supposed to trust and why does anyone want her dead? Did they find out about her abilities? Is that really reason enough to try and kill her? Will the two alpha males team up to protect her instead of competing for her? Will Kaela ever truly be safe again? Find out this and more within the pages of this fast read.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Undying Light, which is the first book in The Stella Maris Series. I hadn’t read anything by this author yet, but I can tell they are definitely making it on my “Authors to Watch” list! Aurora Wildey had me hooked from the beginning and kept me engrossed until the very end. I really love books that have multiple POVs so this was right up my alley. You immediately feel the drama from a horrible attack that nearly killed Kaela, but a magnificent stranger named Terran saved her. Kaela felt somewhat indebted to Terran for this powerfully kind act which leads her to use her powers to heal him. The two do their best to hide and keep each other safe, but a new individual named Seth enters the picture. He feels Kaela’s presence and gives her the option to work near him while also teaching her who she really is. Seth and Terran don’t really see eye to eye, but Kaela must make an impossible decision. Will she stay with Terran since he has proven he will protect her, or will she feel pulled towards Seth? I can’t wait to see what else this author has in store for us. I highly recommend picking this up especially if you enjoy the fantasy and paranormal genre!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Kaela Morrow is a young woman with a bit of an overprotective father, but she is determined to live her life on her own terms by living alone, spending time with her best friend and studying, all while working part time, but all that changes one night when Kaela is attacked, but thankfully for her, there is someone nearby who comes to her rescue. Terran Montgomery is just finishing work when he hears a scream, he has no idea what he is about to run into, but he cannot just stand by and let something bad happen to someone, so he takes matters into his own hands and rescues Kaela, however, he does not escaped unharmed and Kaela is worried that her saviour might be in danger of losing his life, so despite knowing that she shouldn’t, she uses her inner light to heal him.

The next morning, Terran and Kaela realise that they both have something to hide and that the other is now in full knowledge of both of their situations, so albeit scared and uncomfortable they decide to keep the secrets they have discovered close to their chests and hope that their paths do not cross again, but if she needs him, he will do everything he can to keep her safe. While Kaela tries to come to terms with everything that happens, she has to again call on Terran for help, however, while this is going on, they cross paths with Seth Lazarus, a man who has seen a lot and been alive for a long time, he is an immortal and one of the few of his kind left, however, as soon as he senses Kaela, he realises that she is another of his kind, but that she is a new born and that is a rare thing which needs to be celebrated. He introduces himself to her and makes her acquaintance, but it soon becomes clear that she has no knowledge of her special status, so he decides to keep an eye on her, especially when he hears what has happened to her recently, but he is in no position as of yet to do this.

As time passes, Kaela is hoping that all the drama is blowing over, but when she is attacked again, Seth decides it is his time to step in and offer her a safe haven, with a job and place to lay low included, Kaela again reluctantly agrees, but still wants to maintain contact with Terran, this is not what either Seth or Terran would prefer, but they agree it is probably the best path to take. Will Terran and Seth be able to keep Kaela safe when trust is not something which comes to any of them easily, or will the danger which surrounds them be too much to overcome? This is a tale of a girl caught between too protectors with a paranormal twist, where secrets weave themselves into a tangled web which leads you through the story all the way until the end until you know whether Kaela is safe and whom her choice is.

Undying Light (The Stella Maris Series Book 1) by Aurora Wildey – Review by Tara Johnson Barnes

Undying LightUndying Light by Aurora Wildey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Undying Light is Book One in The Stella Maris Series. The book is told from the point of view of three different characters. Each character has a unique power and secret that they are trying to hide which makes them unlikely to trust many people. As the book progresses it starts to intertwine the lives of the three and give a bigger storyline.

Character number one is Kaela, an eighteen-year-old girl that is different from other girls her age because she has healing powers. She tries her best to disguise it which can be difficult because she glows when she uses her powers. Kaela is intelligent and is just finishing college to be a nurse and wants to use her healing powers to help others.

Character number two is Seth, who is an undying, which is like a vampire. There are very few things that can kill an undying. Most of the undying were eradicated by a tyrant king so there are very few in existence. Seth is on a quest to find his possessions that have once again been stolen. He enlists some shady characters to do his dirty work for him.

Character number three is Terran, a werewolf. He is the only son of a family of old school money in which the males are all born with this special “affliction”. He works as a public servant which angers his mother who feels that he should be a wealthy lawyer and be married to the right woman. Terran leads a secret life that nobody knows about in which he brings justice to those who escape it.
Kaela crosses paths with both Seth and Terran at different times and under different circumstances. She must decide if she trusts either of these men. When Kaela is attacked by a group of men at the clinic, she works at it is Terran who comes to her rescue. He is badly injured in the process, so Kaela uses her healing powers to save him. In the process, both learn of the other’s well-guarded secrets and trust the other to not tell anyone. Things are going well until Seth comes along. He recognizes her as one of his own and wants to protect her and teach her. Seth offers to protect Kaela but then Terran gets in his way. Can Kaela really trust either of these men?

A great urban fantasy book with paranormal elements, shapeshifters, magic, intrigue, suspense, secrets, tension, secret vigilante activities, and danger lurking around every corner. The characters were well written, and their back story explained in a manner that made their individual story easily understandable. Kaela, Seth, and Terran were all supernatural beings with their own unique abilities that they kept a secret. They trusted nobody and each kept to themselves. It was easy to understand why they felt as though they may not have been able to trust one another. Looking forward to book number two.

Undying Light (The Stella Maris Series Book 1) by Aurora Wildey – Review by Beverly Finnie

Undying LightUndying Light by Aurora Wildey
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’m going to say my rating is more of a 3.5 vs 4.
Undying Light is different. A book I wasn’t a fan of when I started to read it, however it got better the longer I stuck with it. In the past I’ve abandoned books long before I’ve given them a chance. This time I went with my gut and gave it a chance. To say I was confused at first, extremely! It took till about 20% of the way in that things started to come together and make sense. So what the author did was write this book in the perspective of 3 different characters. Every 3rd chapter or so you made it back to a particular character’s point of view. Which is why it was confusing.
Why tell a story in this way?
What do these 3 characters have to do with one another?
Well that first question I posed only the author can answer, but you can speculate. I will say this, in the end it worked but you need to make sure if you felt as I did you push through.
The 2nd question gets answered around the 20% point when these characters start crossing paths and start becoming fixtures in each other’s lives.
Kaela a young girl beyond extremely smart and beyond her years. She’s a homebody and doesn’t really have any friends besides Gavin. Being outcasts brought them together. She’s different though and she knows it. She knows she has powers but doesn’t have the answers as to why. Well our next character does. Seth has been around a long time. He has been living a life of immortality and endless loneliness. Because though he’s had and felt love it never lasts, due to his condition. When Seth crosses paths with Kaela he knows immediately she’s someone of his kind. One he didn’t know existed. One he pledges to protect from that moment on. Also has hopes that she will grow to want him as well.
Then there’s Terran. Terran has his own secret. prosecutor by day, vigilante supernatural by night. Yet not that anyone knows it’s him or what he is. Until he saves Kaela one night. She sees him in his true form and he sees the little bit of magic she can currently do. He’s also the prosecutor on the case of the man who survived that attacked her.
All 3 characters are supernatural beings. That you will just have to read to find out about.
Are Terran and Seth able to keep Kaela safe?
Is there an even bigger danger lurking in the wings?
Like I said early on, the author’s use of 3 different perspectives is confusing at first. More because of the questions it creates and less due to the context. I say that because those questions start to resolve themselves once these 3 are in each other’s lives.
Was it worth pushing through for?
Yes, I think so. I look forward to other books by this author in the future. As well as the potential of other books in what looks like to be the beginning of a series.

Where Fire Meets Flame (Yours From the Ashes, #1)Where Fire Meets Flame by Elena Kincaid
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This quick read was perfect for spending an hour-ish lost in an instant romance. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this one. But I took the chance and was happy I did.

Riley finds herself staring up at pair of beautiful blue eyes one day when she was out getting coffee. There is an instant connection for Riley. To Riley, he doesn’t seem to feel it. He, Tristen, does feel it. Tristen doesn’t think he should get involved with Riley when he can’t seem to shake his last semi-girlfriend. Yeah, the ex is going to be a problem.

Over several months, Riley and Tristen keep bumping into each other. The connection only gets deeper until one incident severs it. Many months later, Riley and Tristen run into each other again. The connection remains. And it is hot, like seriously on fire. Then it gets steamy!!!

I enjoyed the slow-burn (no pun intended) of this insta-romance. It was refreshing to see them getting to know each other, even peripherally before getting to the steamy. Great story!

This is the first book in The Stella Maris Series. Wow, this book had me right from the beginning, The characters are great and their banter was wonderful. Kaela has the healing power of light that puts her in danger. First Terran and then Seth try to protect her. Terran and Seth may both want to protect Kaela but they do not trust each other. This book is quick paced and engaging. Even with the intrigue and drama it was easy to follow along with the story. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Not being familiar with Aurora Wildey’s writing, I was pleasantly surprised! This was an easy to read paranormal light romance written in multi-character POV.
Kaela is a college aged student living on her own in a seedy part of town, with one close friend, a hard to please father and a nursing career she’s working hard to obtain. Her father owns the building she lives in, along with a clinic he runs on the main floor. Terran grew up in a well-to-do family and works as an attorney, against his mother’s wishes. Seth is a business man of an even higher class than Terran’s family, with financial resources to spare.
Each of them has a secret.
When a robbery at the clinic goes wrong, Kaela’s life is in danger and Terran and Seth become intimately involved in her protection, and the protection of each of their secrets.

Undying Light (The Stella Maris Series Book 1) by Aurora Wildey. This is a wonderful, fantasy, paranormal series. This book was a great start to the series and I can’t wait for the next one. Its the story of Kaela who is trying to finish nursing school and has the healing Power of Light. She is recovering from an attack that almost killed her. Terran who is a district attorney and a werewolf sees her being attacked and steps in to save her. Terran gets injured in turn and Kaela uses her powers to save him. Once Kaela heals him she is in grave danger and Terran vows to protect her no matter what. When Kaela has another attack on her, her friend Seth who has the same powers of her steps in to protect her. Of course Seth and Terran do not like each other and Kaela feels like she is being torn into. Will Kaela survive this attack on her and will she be able to keep Terran and Seth happy? This book kept me turning pages and sitting in the edge of my seat. It starts with an attack at work leaving the leading female character injured and unsafe. Then some stranger swoops in and tries to protect her. He has secrets of his own. The two together try to navigate things with their powers while keeping them a secret. All while this is going on there is another attack. This attack brings in another male character and causes some tension between the two leading men. They have to figure out who to trust and she has to figure out if she can trust either of them. This is a great beginning to a new series and I am thoroughly looking forward to what happens next. This book will leave you turning pages to see what happens next. It has everything that I look for in a book; suspense, action, paranormal characters, and angst. This book is written in multiple POVs and I feel that it adds different views of things happening in the story. It is a really well rounded book that is a very quick read. Also this review was difficult to write without giving things away in the story because there is so much I want to share but don’t want to spoil all the feels that you will get while reading this book.

Kaela is under attack and in for the fight of her life at work one evening. She didn’t think she’d make it until a stranger saves her but is gravely wounded in the process. She saves him with her power that she has kept hidden only to find that not only is he the DA prosecuting the case but a werewolf to boot. As of that isn’t complicated enough, Kaela’s use of her powers calls an undying to her side as he hasn’t felt that power in a while. All she wants is to survive what’s happening to her while the motives of the wolf and the undying remains to be seen. This is a great spin to the fantasy genre!

Aurora Wildey has written a fantastic fantasy novel, with so much excitement I couldn’t put it down. The characters are developed so well, I felt like they were real! The setting was beautifully portrayed with all of the details fine-tuned, it just drew me in. I was on the edge of my seat when Kaela Morrow was attacked, I was sure she was a goner! Luckily she was saved by her rescuer who risked his own life to save hers, Terran Montgomery, the man of mystery sacrificed himself. Thank goodness Kaela had the ability to heal, which she did, and in exchange, Terran promised to watch over her. There is another who wants to protect Kaela, Seth Lazarus, but neither man gets along. Are both of them helping Kaela for her own good, or do they have ulterior motives? Can she trust either of them or is she all on her own once again? You won’t want to put this book down once you begin, so be ready for a great experience.

Undying Light (The Stella Maris Series Book 1) by Aurora Wildey – Review by Santana Hicks

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Kaela is only 18 years old but she knows she is different from any others her age. She has the unique power to heal. Unfortunately she glows when she uses her power making it hard for her to disguise it.

Seth is something that is called an ‘undying’. When I was first introduced to his character, I thought he was a vampire. Being very similar to vampires, only a few things can kill an undying. After a tyrant king almost eradicated their existence, Seth is shocked to find the first one born in a millennia when meeting Kaela at an event. He instantly wants to take her under his wing and teach her their ways before the others can get a hold of her.

Kaela was attacked by a group of men who were trying to steal from the clinic she works at when she is saved by what she thinks is a werewolf. Using her powers to heal him, she risks being found out.

Meanwhile, Terran the werewolf, feels the same way after Kaela sees his human form. They go their separate ways until Terran is put on the court case as her lawyer. Terran takes it upon himself to protect Kaela, clashing with Seth who also wants to protect her.

Kaela has nowhere to go so she has to trust them. At least she has to try to. Can the 3 of them get over themselves long enough to put their differences aside?

When I first started reading this book, I thought it was going to be a typical love triangle situation but I am happy to say I was wrong. There are some romance elements, yes, but the book is mostly plot progressing keeping the reader engaged from start to finish. The three main characters are all so different from each other but also so similar. I like how instead of it being love at first sight, the author took the time to have the trio get to know each other, slowly gaining trust which is much more realistic. I will be keeping an eye open for the next installment!

This is the first book I had read by this author and I can wholeheartedly say it will not be the last.
I found the characters very intriguing and diverse, and their development was well written, and the world they live and work in is described to the point I could see myself there.
Different races seem to have evolved, from the Undying, those that are in effect immortal, though there are very few left and many are looking for humans or others of their type to increase their numbers. The shape shifters those who resemble werewolves when in their beastly form. And obvious the humans.
Terran works as a public prosecutor after the death of his father instead of taking on the family business (unless in his other form, reaping vengeance).
Seth is a property mogul of types, I suppose he has gathered a lot of experience in his many years of life..
Kaela, adopted daughter of a doctor has her own magic but knows nothing of the others in her neighbourhood; caught literally in the wrong place and time she is rescued by the beast, and has already caught the attention of one immortal.
Death threats, loss of evidence, finding long lost gems, life is certainly looking interesting for all 3 of the main characters. I am really super excited to read the following book.

Intriguing
This is the first book in The Stella Maris Series and I really enjoyed it. It was slow in parts but as this is the first book there was a bit of a foundation to lay. Once the pieces started to rally into place the momentum builds. We are still learning so much about the characters and Kaela is still unaware of so much. With mystery, danger and trust issues the story is left on a bit of a cliffhanger.
I am now very keen to check out book 2. Recommend.

This story is told from multiple POVs. While that may not seem important to some it is for many. While I am not a multiple POV fan on the normal everyday read this story was wonderfully written. It had all the things we expect from fantasy based stories. Great storyline, twists and turns and a line that shouldn’t be crossed but ultimately is. Surviving a robbery/attack at work, Kaela finds herself in a safehouse of sorts. The man who saved her is not only the district attorney prosecuting the case but also a werewolf. The man who is harboring her is an undying, something akin to a vampire who feels a pull to Kaela. Being pulled in different directions, Kaela just wants to get out of this alive. Each of the other two men also have their own motives in helping her.
Opinion
This book is not a quick read. It is one you will want to sit and think about while reading it. Going from chapter to chapter, I found my brain trying to piece together what was happening and what would happen. It truly was a fascinating book that I enjoyed immensely. The book did leave in a bit of a cliffhanger without a resolution to one of the issues that played a minor role in the plot but could potentially be a major problem. I can see this particular issue playing a minor roll in several more books until it comes to a culminating point.
This book is worth a reread, especially right before the next book in the series is released.

So this author is new to me but the book plot sounded intriguing and I am all for trying new authors. How else are you supposed to find new favorites?

Kaela is just a girl trying to finish school to become a nurse, her real passion is treating those that cannot afford to be treated. Terran is the only son raised in an old money family who is hell bent on bringing justice to those that escape it. They both have gifts however they don’t know about each other until an attack happens which could cost Kaela her life but Terran steps in to save her. Seeing him badly wounded Kaela uses her gift to heal Terran which sets off a series of events that paint a target on her back. Enter Seth who just wants to retrieve items stolen from him when he senses another being that is just like him. How can this be when one hasn’t been born in so long? Will Kaela bring herself to trust the two men in her life? What makes her so special in the grand scheme of things that she is being targeted for?

This book was like all my favorite things rolled into one. It was like a non stop roller coaster ride that kept me turning pages just to see what would happen next. This book will definitely go into my pile to reread and one to share with my 16 year old who is a voracious reader like myself.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

3 Stars

Undying Light is the first book in The Stella Maris Series by Aurora Wildey. This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Wildey, so I really wasn’t sure what I could expect from one of her books. But I was quite intrigued by the synopsis, and I love a great urban fantasy- so I took the chance and grabbed a copy to explore.
This is an intriguing urban fantasy with paranormal elements, magic, action, adventure, secrets, agendas, danger, dramatic developments, tension, and more. The story is told from multiple POV’s, which gave the story extra interest and depth.
When Kaela is attacked, a stranger with enhanced abilities comes to her rescue, saving her, but is gravely injured in the process. Kaela takes a risk, exposing her own powers of light in order to save him. And so, the adventure begins. Add in a protective immortal, more danger, agendas, trust issues, angst, and plenty of secrets- and this story takes an intriguing turn.
What does Book # have in store for us?
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Aurora Wildey!

Undying Light (The Stella Maris Series Book 1) by Aurora Wildey – Review by Ayla Phipps

Undying LightUndying Light by Aurora Wildey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first book I have read by the talented Aurora Wildey, and I wasn’t sure what to expect other than an original story plot. Original, seems too simple of a word but Undying Light is a unique plot that follows the perspectives of three different individuals.
Terran is the only son of an old money family in his hometown with a secret “affliction” that only affects the males of his father’s family. Kaela is an extremely intelligent young woman that is 18 and about to finish college as a registered nurse. Seth is one of only six of his kind still in existence. Terran is determined to bring justice to those who escape true justice. Kaela is set on healing those that can’t afford it. Seth is determined to find his belongings that have been stolen again. In a flurry everything comes together, Terran and Kaela find each other in a lifesaving moment that triggered more events to unfold. Seth discovers the first new undying in more years than he can remember.
What will happen to Kaela? Can they achieve their goals in one piece? What exactly is Kaela and what makes her existence so important? The world the author creates is truly otherworldly while still being routed in reality. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
