The Uncrowned King (The Blood Prince Series) by Ayla Marie – Review by Helen Dawkins

The Uncrowned King (The Blood Prince, #2)The Uncrowned King by Ayla Marie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Uncrowned King is book two in The Blood Prince Series, by Ayla Marie. You MUST read book one in order to understand this book. I was on the edge of my seat the entire way; this book is just as emotional and exciting as the first.

Leo and his family are now in Arkezo, where he finds out that he is the heir to the throne. There is a lot of new information being thrown at Leo and Cael, not to mention trying to find their way through a new city. Will Leo end up taking the throne? The connection to the crown may make keeping his family safe easier, but at what cost? Leo, Cael and Elana just want to keep everyone safe and to finally have peace.

This is a great read for all ages in my opinion, not just YA. It is action packed, and full of deeper meaning. The way the author weaves this story is amazing and she is truly talented! Being that the Ayla is still in high school, she is definitely an author to watch – both of her books are wonderfully written.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Blood Prince is the first book of two, by Ayla Marie. This is a wonderful YA fantasy book that has amazing world building and complex characters. The book is captivating and deals with loyalty, love, and persevering as an individual, but also as a family.

The first half of the book is from Leo’s perspective. He is an assassin/mercenary who is the most wanted criminal. While he is extremely lethal, he is also very kind and a loving brother, who would do anything for his family. When one of his younger siblings shows the signs of having the same lethal abilities as him, they must flee in order to stay live.

Family is everything, and even in the darkest of times, the Hael family shows that you can prevail, stand strong, and flourish. I cannot wait to read the second book and see where the story leads!

Leo is the rightful king, but he isn’t looking to wear the crown. His father before him did the same and in that respect he is following in his footsteps. There are a lot of decisions to be made and they could impact things in either the positive or negative. Leo just wants to keep his loved ones safe, but does that mean he has to take up the responsibilities that he doesn’t want? This was a great sequel to Blood Prince. The action keeps you hooked and the twists and turns take you for a ride. You definitely need to read the first book as this one pretty much picks up the end of book one.

The Uncrowned King (The Blood Prince Series) by Ayla Marie – Review by Kirsten Berkebile

This is the first book I have read by this author, however this is the second book of the series. I really had a time getting past the few chapters mostly because I couldn’t get into it. But as I continued to read I started to understand Leo’s story. I will tell you that I was drawn to this story because of the cover. Leo’s father refused to be king when he was alive, so does Leo follow in his father’s footsteps? I do feel like I should have book one and then book two so I will definitely be looking into the first one. I do suggest that you read it in order though because it might make connections easier to grasp. I am definitely looking forward to reading the first one and probably rereading this one before moving on to the next book.

The Uncrowned King is the second book in The Blood Prince Trilogy. Like her previous book the writing was wonderful and absorbing and most definitely enthralling, nothing like what you would expect from a high schooler. Ayla Marie most certainly has talent and I will look forward to reading more from her in the future.

I definitely recommend reading the first book before reading this one. This was a great jump into the second book and I loved how you get to read from three different perspectives. I really enjoyed getting to have insight into the other characters. Leo has to make some hard decisions to keep his family safe. Having to learn who you can trust is never easy and then finding a place to be safe. This book pulls you in just like the first. As always there are twists and turns in the plot that leaves you on a small cliffhanger for book three!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The second book in the series, The Uncrowned King, is full of action and excitement! I do not recommend picking this one up without reading the first as it picks up right where the first one ends. Leo and his family deal with several twists and turns that I didn’t see coming in a story that ended too soon for me! It follows the structure of the first following multiple points of view of Leo, Elana, and Cael. Leo just wants to find peace for him and his family. Will he finally accomplish his goal, or will he be stopped. This author is quickly becoming one that I will watch for their work. I hope you have your responsibilities taken care of because you will ignore them while you get lost in this book! I can’t wait to see what this author has in store for us next.

This is the second book in the Blood Prnice series. This book follows on from the first so I highly recommend going back to read the first prior to this one if you havent already.

Once again I had a great time following Leo and co. on their adventures learning the way around their new lives. I was again drawn in by the characters and the world surrounding them, well-written and full of twists to keep you engaged to the end.

I have become emotionally invested in the character’s lives and can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series.

This is book 2 in The Blood Prince Trilogy and wow the story just keeps getting better. I do strongly recommend reading these books in order as if you don’t you will miss major details that you need to be able to understand and follow this book.
This is a YA story that is full of action and adventure. There are so many twists and turns in this book that I couldnt put it down until I was finished.
The authors world and charcter building was amazing and really brought everything to life.
Even though this is a YA story I found it just as enjoyable in my 30s and I am so excited for the next book to see how the story ends.
I feel like I have been on a rollercoaster with these characters through good and bad, heartbreak, sorrow and happiness. They are like family that you don’t want to let go but at the same time I want to see what is in store for them next.

This is the second book in this series. I highly suggest reading the first book before this one to help your enhancement of this series as well as the characters. In this book Leo and his siblings find their new home. What will happen when the past comes to the present and they are after blood. They are now in a game of fight for survival. Who will win and who will lose is up to you to read and find out. You don’t want to miss out for sure. It was great seeing the characters again and what situation they found themselves in. My favorite is Leo and his determination is great. I enjoyed watching the growth of the characters and the plot throughout the story. This is a fast paced story that is hard to put down and engaging. A story that will keep you coming back for more until the end. I really enjoyed this book and this series. I highly recommend this book.

The Uncrowned King (The Blood Prince Series) by Ayla Marie. This is the second book in the Blood Prince series and its so good. I do recommend reading the first book to better understand characters and timelines. Its about Leo who is supposed to be the next King but he doesn’t want that. He doesn’t want the power he just wants to use the position to make a place for him and his loved ones. When he is first presented with the crown he automatically says no but he and his family decide they can use that position for their betterment. Will Leo succeed in finding a place for his family and friends to thrive and feel safe in? There is murder, intrigue, loyalty and more in this family tale that is a young adult read but I really enjoyed it and I think others will too. Its a fast paced read that will have you reading until you finish. Do yourself a favor and read this fun young adult fantasy, you won’t be disappointed!

The Uncrowned King is sequel of The Blood Prince. I would recommend reading that one first before diving into this next part of the story! The Uncrowned King picks up right at the height of the action with Leo and his siblings surrounded by the court of IIlena. Are they any safer in this new place? Leo must make some tuff decisions to keep his family safe. Will all hope be lost? The book has three main perspectives (Leo, Elena, and Cael). I like the change of narrator because we get more insight into the other characters. I recommend reading book these books by Ayla Marie, she is talented writer! There is a minor cliffhanger at the end of the story so I am anxiously awaiting the next book.

The Uncrowned King (The Blood Prince Book 2)The Uncrowned King by Ayla Marie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Uncrowned King is the second book in The Blood Prince YA fantasy series. Leo is the rightful heir to the throne but doesn’t want to be King, he just hopes to use his connection to the crown to secure a safe place for him and those he loves.

This is an exciting book full of action and intrigue. Every decision Leo and his family make is watched by those around them and could impact their safety, positively or negatively. They must choose who to trust, which rules to bend, when to insist on doing things their way.

The story gets quite dark at times, and emotional at others (and of course dark and emotional!). There were times when I had to put it down for a moment just to absorb what had happened and have a break from the intensity! But other times I couldn’t put it down because I needed to know what happened next.

The Uncrowned King gets five stars from me! I’d recommend it to fans of fantasy series with maps in the front and unconventional families with tight bonds.

The Uncrowned King is the second book in The Blood Prince Series by Ayla Marie and it is just as exciting and emotional as the first! This book continues where the first left off and finds Leo and his family in Arkezo, the home of his father and other blood relatives. Leo, Cael, and the others are trying to navigate a new city, lots of new information regarding Leo’s lineage and the history between the different people, as well as dealing with more loss. At times, I almost felt overwhelmed with emotion myself. There are just as many twists and turns in this story as the first and it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire book! Ayla Marie’s world building is spectacular! The sights, sounds, and smells of the city permeate off the page to transport the reader into the story. Not to give too much away, but it seems as though Leo’s story will continue and I am anxiously awaiting when it does!

The Uncrowned King
By Ayla Marie

The Uncrowned king by Ayla Marie is the second installment to The Blood Prince. It is a story that surrounds Leo and his families hardships and constant struggle to find a peaceful life.

Leo and his siblings do everything in their power to survive, and they finally find a place where they feel like they can thrive. Being the heir to the throne of Illena making it all seem plausible, but Leo just wants to make sure his family is safe and taken care of. With no desire to take the throne.

I loved this tale, Ayla did a beautiful job capturing the essence of each character and how they fit into each part of the story. I couldn’t put this one down, I read it in a day literally. She did an excellent job staging every major event and that family and the ones you love will always prevail. 5 stars!

This book is even better than the first and I loved watching how the story played out. So much seems to happen and the story progresses, but the author handles it all with ease. The book is exciting and action packed, right from the word go. It felt like it was always on a knifes edge and could go anyway at any time. This book is well developed, interesting and a brilliant read. I cannot wait for the next one to see what happens.

Anytime a mercenary reveals he is a prince, the story is going to get interesting. I’m a new reader to this author but I was hooked immediately with this book. The cover art is great and the synopsis is intriguing. So I dove into the story of Leo who we learn never knew his parents. He travels to the lands of his royal bloodline to find a safe place for him and his siblings to live without the constant fear of being killed or exploited due to his true identity.

Leo is an interesting character and admittedly it took me a bit to warm up to him. By the end of the book, I think he may be one of the best characters yet.

When he’s initially faced with the idea of taking his rightful place on the throne, he immediately rejects the idea. Then he and his family try to learn everything they can about royal family, their ways. Most importantly, they need to learn who they can trust, who they should watch and how they can keep themselves safe.

I enjoyed the pace of the storyline and the complexity of the characters. I think YS fantasy fiction fans will be entertained.

The author continues the saga with adventure, drama, so many twists and turns. I found this story so intriguing because of it. It is billed as a YA/Fantasy but anyone would love it. It’s one of those books that you can’t set down once you start. It’s really got a bit of everything for you. The author is still in HS and shows such great talent as writing this. The Uncrowned King (The Blood Prince Book 2)The Uncrowned King by Ayla Marie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Illena is nothing without its people. I have eagerly awaited book two in this unique world for over a year and it’s finally here. The author, Ayla Marie, does not disappoint with book two of the Blood Prince series. Yes, this is a book that reading book one first is a must as this is a continuation of the first book. Three perspectives as the previous book did Leo, Cael, and Elana.
Leo, Cael, Byrne, and the kids have fled Wate with great loss, but they did it they found the bay. Arkezo, Leo’s place of origin, or at least where his father is from. He’s found his Bloodline and the family that comes with it. Cael always at Leo’s side shares in the unease of the change from the shadows to the finery of royalty and holding on to who they are and not letting their values be influenced. Elana is still in Wate, suffering still under fear of her father, Cassien. But she’s only remained for a purpose a life thought lost to Leo, Cael, and their siblings. Elana can’t leave until the timing is right to get him out too. Leo and Elana hold each other in a sacred place in the others’ souls a light to keep going until they can be reunited. Leo finds several new titles amongst the people of Illena, that make him feel inhuman and uncomfortable as he fights against the rigid lifestyle he’s forced into. Discovering he has a cousin, Ares, that helps them understand this new lifestyle, Leo refuses to turn his back on the people of Illena as the other bloodlines do. After he and Cael save a family from a house fire in the Riv, the slums of Arkezo, things begin to take a more rapid shift. Leo proves that his blood is not more important to him than the blood of the people. A country is made of its people not the other way around. Everyone is listening, and when the truth is revealed, Leo is left with a dark choice.
Will Leo succeed in finding peace for his family to live in? Can Ares and the other Bloodlines be trusted? The world grows and seems to come full circle for the Heal siblings as they find themselves in similar situations as before. While the world grows darker and the people more twisted, Leo and his siblings find small moments to steal smiles and giggle with each other, to share an unspoken hope of peace. Left speechless by the events and yet not surprised as Leo seeps into your soul and you know what his decisions will be before they happen. He lives to protect those that he loves. Now it’s Elana’s turn to go in search of who she loves. I am already waiting for book three for the grand finale of this unique and all-consuming series that is The Blood Prince.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Uncrowned King is the second book in the deliciously dark The Blood Prince trilogy by Ayla Marie. I was introduced to Ayla when I read her first book The Blood Prince and said she is one author to watch, and she certainly is. She is still in high school, but her work is wonderful, and she has a great knack at storytelling.
The Uncrowned King is another intriguing YA fantasy and shows Ayla Marie’s natural talent. Even though it is a YA story it can be read by anyone of any age. I am 61 and I enjoyed it.
It is an interesting tale that you won’t be able to put down. The world building is spot on, and the story became so engrossing that the pages kept on turning. Sleep is overrated anyway. Ayla is just as good if not better than some of the seasoned authors I have read.

This is a great read that is action packed with lots of danger and hidden agendas, drama with lots of twists and turns that will have your heart pumping and you will be on the edge of your seat.
I am not giving away any spoilers because it is a story that should be explored on your own. Do yourself a favour and delve into the world of The Blood Prince.
Can’t wait for the next book.

Ayla Marie is a Canadian high school student whose love for fantasy started when she was twelve and hasn’t dulled since. She will read any book you put in front of her—textbooks do not count—especially when they have action packed storylines and a romantic subplot that makes you want to read as fast as you can, while wishing it would never end. Though writing, reading, and studying take up most of her time—or all her time according to her younger brother—she always manages to find space in her schedule to play some soccer and hang out with friends and family. Her goofy dog and two cats are her biggest fans, and though she could have done without the constantly interrupting barks and meows, she loves their annoying presence very much.

The Blood Prince is her debut novel, but she plans to write many more, deepening her love for writing and literature with every page.

In the search for peace, a mercenary becomes a prince…

In the foreign land of Illena, Leo finds himself with the offer of a country at his feet. With his siblings in tow, he spends his days navigating a new world of finery set on pushing his family out. As the ghost of a brother left behind and the thoughts of a girl who refused to escape never cease to haunt him, the weight of a country hangs heavily over his head.

As Lady Death follows close behind, they must distinguish friend from foe…

When a group of criminals take interest in Leo and his siblings, they must decide whether to trust the people who mirror their former lives in Somereil or turn towards the Bloodlines—Illena’s elite—and start anew. Leo is finally able to fall into an easy trust with his new allies, but he soon discovers a truth that tears his family apart and forces him to choose between his head and his heart.

Will he save his family or his people when the world starts to burn?

Just as Leo begins to see a future in Illena, past enemies soon emerge from the darkness with a promise of blood. While he and his family fight for their freedom, it becomes impossible to find a haven to protect the little they have left. When fierce foes tear those Leo cares about from his grip, his mind begins to sink deeper into despair. Will he overcome the odds and be the hero Illena desperately needs, or will he fuel the flames consuming the peace they’d given so much to attain and become the monster they always feared?
