Unbroken Vow, the newest book from Bree M. Lewandowski, combines fantasy with futuristic qualities, all while providing a unique twist on the classic tale of a knight rescuing the feisty young woman.

Glaive Leal is a Paladin in the kingdom of Ardara- the highest rank a knight can achieve, one that reflects loyalty to his brothers-in-arms, his vow, and his king. When Glaive’s closest friend confesses a secret while he lay dying, Glaive is charged with saving a young woman from the countryside. Ada Vidhava is the secret bride of a Paladin, waiting until she and her husband can be together rather than hiding a marriage that violates the vow he took when becoming a knight; Glaive is not the man she expected to take her away from her parent’s home. Together, they have to maneuver through palace intrigues and politics, trying to honor the vows they each made to the man they knew and loved, while also being honest to their hearts.

Unbroken Vow is a unique world in which to be dropped as the basis of a romance novel. Its blending of a classic kingdom-style fantasy world with modern and futuristic technologies can be a bit difficult to follow at times, but it is also refreshing in that it fails to become predictable. The characters grow and change as their world shifts around them; outside forces create unforeseen obstacles in the plans to keep Ada safely hidden until she can be returned to her home, pushing them to adapt and overcome. As a fan of both fantasy and romance, I enjoyed seeing Lewandowski take a different approach in blending of the two genres.

Unbroken Vow by Bree M. Lewandowski was an interesting book and is the first book I have read by this author. I highly enjoyed this book, and the author did well, this was different then what I expected, and I am used to. I fell in love with the characters of this story. Ada is now a widow due to a forbidden marriage; Glaive gives his word he will protect her, but can he? This was a quick read and was fun. Can’t wait to read more by this author.

Unbroken Vow by Bree M. Lewandowski. This one was a bit outside my comfort zone but I’m so glad I found it. This author definitely has a way with making words into a story book world you’d like to get lost in. This was a fast read for me and I enjoyed every minute I got to spend with the characters. The pace was fast but not in bad way, I think the author found a way to make it fast pace without jeopardizing the overall storyline. I liked the characters they were easy to connect with. It’s a well written story and I kinda wish I could read it again for a first time. I’m excited to see what else this author has to offer. Four big stars and highly recommended!

This is a story of forbidden love and the promises held by vows, Glaive Leal is a Paladin in the Adara Knights in the court of King Ladd of Patriam, he has trained in physical, emotional and spiritual ways and has been forged into a weapon in the shape of a man and he is one of the best within the ranks. This is shown when he is chosen along with his best friend Marcus and six others to guard Queen of Jan-Inham on her state visit the next day, but as they patrol the area as the Queen docks and is met by the King, all hell breaks loose when the expected dissidents attack the convoy and the Paladin’s sweep through the crowds to protect the innocent and take down the guilty who are throwing bombs, using firearms and lastly one detonates a bomb on their person. As the crowd thins and the Paladin’s shake off the effects of the suicide bombing, Glaive sees that Markus is lying bleeding on the floor, when he goes to his side, the true extent of his injuries are apparent and as he lies dying in Glaive’s arms, he confesses to have been married against all the rules and he please with Glaive to see that she comes to no harm when judgement is meted out and to keep her safe from harm, Glaive agrees to this dying wish and goes to seek out this mystery woman.

When he sets off on his leave to go and find her, he is led to the farming area two days drive away from the city and when he finds her household and breaks the news that her husband is dead and that he is there to keep her safe, an argument starts and the realisation dawns in when he tells Ada that he has to change the look of her and Markus’s brands so she can’t be identified by it and while she is unconscious from that experience, he whisks her away to a bathhouse in the city in which he lives until he can take her to the Palace harem and watch over her safety there. Although Ada doesn’t understand why this is happening and the meaning of what it is which her husband had done marrying her, as well as the consequences of it, she quickly learns that Glaive is nothing like his, but she is determined not to let him rule her life, however, it is a lot to take in at once and eventually she settles into her life in the Harem, that is until one of the Duke’s in the land takes a shine to her. When she refuses this Duke’s advances, he arranges for her to be sent overseas with the Queen and serve her, Glaive promises to come and get her, but the hope and faith she has slowly lessens when he doesn’t show up, but when he eventually does, what his plan is for the two of them is not what she expected.

Will Glaive and Ada be able to overcome their differences and survive the trials to come, or will they be caught before they can learn to love each other? Will this forbidden love be destroyed by the rules they are confined to, or will they be able to break free of their hold? This is an engaging story of the battle between passion, duty and honour as two people navigate troubled lands.

“Unbroken Vow” is the type of book where you notice other people around you, in the real world, but you just cannot stop reading. This book has love, anguish, loyalty, devotion, and overwhelming bravery as its main ideals. The main characters are strong-willed and beautiful, and it’s an honor to get to travel their world with them. The beginning of the book sets the tone for the awe-striking story to take place. The writing is very descriptive and powerful, as if the feelings flow out of the pages. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance novel with main characters who make you laugh, cry, and love.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A story of forbidden romance and one vow that leads to a whole load of shenanigans. It was a well-written tale with a vibrant world that felt really staunch and stoic, much in keeping with the characteristics I always assign to paladins whenever I am dabbling in a bit of DnD. I will say that I sometimes felt the narrative a bit stilted, I don’t know whether this was done on purpose considering the subject matter and all the rules and whatnot that poor old Glaive has to follow. I suppose it works when I think about it, though not always enjoyable to read, Glaive is a serious character and a really stilted and almost formal, feeling narrative suits him down to the ground.
Glaive is a Paladin, a really important and high-ranking Paladin at that, a regular Knight of Ardara and he takes his job very seriously, in fact, he takes everything pretty seriously, Glaive is not a light-hearted chap in my opinion. When his mate asks him for a mahoosive favour on his deathbed, then Glaive has to agree, only problem is that Markus isn’t just asking him to scatter his ashes someplace nice, he’s asking for Glaive to protect his wife, a wife that he is, by law, not supposed to have. Serious Glaive, being all serious and stuff, takes this vow seriously and is determined to do just that, protecting Ada from the fall out of her simply falling in love with the wrong person. For a while, his little plan of squirreling her away works, hiding pretty much in plain sight as a servant to the king (the closer you are to danger and all that) but Glaive does not foresee how other individuals whose brains reside in their breeches and egos swell to fill a ballroom, could foil his plans and put Ada in immediate danger. Obviously, as time goes on, though Glaive does not really soften as such, his feelings towards Ada change, and his reasons for so valiantly protecting her become somewhat blurred.
It’s a good read, I think I found it a little like whiplash because I have been reading so many funny romance novels recently, whereas this is as I may have mentioned earlier, a serious read. Still, it is worth it and Lewandowski is clearly a skilled writer, keeping the tale moving along at a nice pace with some wonderful descriptions that I can almost guarantee will take your breath away.

Unbroken Vow by Bree M. Lewandowski. This is a great fantasy read. Its the story of Ada & Glaive. Ada is the widow of Glaive’s brother in arms and Glaive was sworn to protect her. There wasn’t supposed to be any feelings involved but the pull is so strong and also they are actually forbidden to marry. Glaive being one of the Kingdoms elite Paladins is to protect the King and whoever else they tell him to. The relationship between Glaive and Ada is forbidden but they can’t help the chemistry between them. Glaive will do everything in his power to protect her even if it means death for him. There are secrets revealed, danger at every turn and risks that could include dying but all worth it in the end.

Unbroken Vow by Bree M. Lewandowski was a really great, quick read. It was definitely a story I wasn’t used to reading, but I really enjoyed it. The author did a wonderful job developing the story as well as the characters, though it took me a bit to get used to the writing style. Glaive made a promise to his fallen brother-in-arms Markus to protect his wife Ada. Ada knows that marrying a Paladin is forbidden but she doesn’t know exactly what the repercussions would be. The drama and romance kept me reading more. I look forward to reading other books by this author.

First book by this author and not a bad job. This story has an interesting twist and interesting characters. This story seems like the two main characters may never get together. Glaive and Ada are doomed from the start. But this author doesn’t let them struggle for long! Although they each do have suffering to bare. The adventure these two must endure for a happily ever after is proof that love conquers all.
The only negative I have about this book is the setting confused me a little. It seems that the world they live in is in the past as they have a King ruling the land with soldiers protecting with swords. But at the same time there are modern vehicles. Travel is occasionally done by horse and by car. It does distract occasionally from the story line.

I really enjoyed reading this story and look forward to the next book in this series. I only wonder if it will be more adventures for Ada and Glaive or new characters

Unbroken Vow by Bree M. Lewendowski was an interesting read for me. I wasn’t exactly sure at first if this was what I had hoped and could finish it but the way Bree weaves this world in a fast and interesting way as it builds kept me on the edge just enough to finish it and I am glad that I did. This book is a touch all over the place but a different spin on the dystopian type I fell personally and it had some other levels of old world built into it as well. Maybe the best of all the worlds I suppose. We get the intense story after the world is built up of a Paladin that is destined to protect but doesn’t expect the way he himself reacts to the one he is worn to protect. I enjoyed that this book didn’t drag out. It was short and sweet and gave us a lot to digest in the short span. It was a solid four star read once I finished it.

Unbroken Vow by Bree M. Lewandowski was a really good read. I thoroughly enjoyed it, even though it threw me off a bit and wasn’t quite what I was expecting. I was thrilled to read this, after seeing the beautiful cover art and reading the synopsis. I was not expecting a mix of modern and medieval in this story. And the time was never really set well, so events would happen and I could never tell when they were taking place. I enjoyed reading this novel and it was great but it took me a while to actually get into it. I was thrown off and was expecting something better than what I got. I can’t wait to read from this author in the future though!

This is an enjoyable and engaging fantasy romance by Bree M. Lewandowski which had me gripped from beginning to end. Following the death of Ada’s husband, Markus, his brother-in-arms Glaive gives his word to protect Ada. Ada followed her heart even though marrying a Paladin is forbidden and so now risks more than a prison sentence. For her safety she is hidden away as a servant to the king but after an incident with a man of power, Ada is sent across the ocean to work for an illustrious crazed queen as punishment. Glaive, is a high ranking Paladin and a knight of Ardara but he is determined not to break his pledge and is willing to risk his own life to save Ada.
The storyline flows well and the descriptive narrative really brings both the characters and the setting to life making me feel fully immersed in the story. The plot kept me hooked and happily turning the pages, as it has plenty of drama and romance.

Wow what can I say. This story had me gripped from the first page and didn’t let me go. There is a lot of emotions running through this book, love, anger, grief, pain. The author does an amazing job of bring the characters and their journey to life.

Glaive  is part of the kings guard. An elite group of warriors who lay down their life for their king. Women were for pleasure and romance and marriage forbidden.

When Glaive’s best friend dies in battle he confides in Glaive  about his marriage and begs him to vow to protect his wife.

Glaive gives his word and so starts his journey that will lead him from being loyal to his king, to finding love in a place he never expected it.

Can Glaive protect Ada? Will their relationship always be full of hate? Will Glaive pay for his desicions with his life?

This is the first book I’ve read by Lewandowski. From the beginning to the end I was amazed. The way she wrote this is just amazing.

Ada is the widow of Markus and is now in hiding. Not expecting anything to come of her arrangements. When she finds herself falling for Glaive. The quote I chose for Ada is: “Are you really so strong, Paladin, that rumor of me being yours is enough?”

Glaive isn’t expecting his best friend and brother-in-arms to die. He also isn’t expecting to learn that his friend is married. Being forbidden by the King, Markus asks Glaive to protect Ada. The quote I chose for Glaive is: “What did you hear?”

Highly recommended for Fantasy Romance lovers.

Unbroken Vow by Bree M. Lewandowski was a thrilling 5 star read.
You get pulled in right from the beginning, there is a dangerous twist that leaves Glaive making a promise to Markus on his deathbed.

Following through on the promise, Glaive travels to a forbidden place to get Ada. He didn’t expect Ada to be as beautiful as she was and stir something inside of him. Ada is still coming to grasps with losing her love and understanding Glaive’s intentions. Glaive is determined to keep Ada safe. There is so much more to this great read that I don’t want to give away anything.

Will he be able to keep his word? Can these two possibly have a HEA?

The author does a great job of pulling you into the story, the world she created was very interesting. I really liked the characters, Ada was a strong willed character and Glaive was honorable and great for Ada. “Skyscrapers and water towers reached into the sky, their steel and copper glinting in the bright sun, feverish to touch the clouds. The royal city of Regiis and the elite region of Rexion had spared no expense in creating a metropolis for the world to wonder at. The city’s buildings dazzled silver-blue and russet in warm months, glowed with residual light in the evening, and stood like sentinels when steep winter winds rushed. At the feet of these beasts of engineering, pavement polished to shine wound widdershins and back again, dotted by amber and cobalt streetlights. Motor vehicles hummed along their serpentine paths and citizens paraded the avenues. Looking down from above, all of it may have been a mechanical man-made jewel, desirous to surpass what the earth pressed into worth—eager to trick the eyes of men into believing there was little else to want beyond the magnificence of their city. Did mankind desire little wonders of nature? Accomplished. Amid the forests of steel, patches of verdant green were easily seen from the air, their centers marked by marble fountains. Did humanity require the scent of plant life surrounding them? Achieved. The Botanical District rarely stood unoccupied. Hot houses meters in length stood side-by-side and row upon row, their earthen perfume a promise of respite from a land of metal clad wonder. Their interiors were plush with vines, blooms, and leaves fairly lusting to be inhaled and admired. Tourists and pilgrims traveled to partake of the health-saturated airs within the conservatories. Physicians prescribed the ailing and elderly to spend days, even weeks, in the Botanical District. From above, Rexion truly was a wonder. Move beyond, however, and those marvels dissipated.”

Unbroken Vow by Bree M. Lewandowski is an interesting and original romance with old-world elements sitting side-by-side with ‘modern’ details, making this book a bit hard to classify. There’s also a bit of fantasy- along with some dystopian elements which really helped to give this story its own unique identity.
I had a little trouble getting into the story- as the wording and phrasing really took me a little while to get used to, but eventually I settled into it, and finally found my groove.
Glaive is one of the Kingdoms elite Paladins, sworn in his duty to protect the King and realm. But things take an interesting twist when his friend and brother-in-arms shares a secret that changes everything. A vow made to his dying comrade will set Glaive on a path he could never have predicted, turning his ordered and disciplined life upside down.
With tension, danger, and drama- this story got more intriguing as things unfolded. Looking forward to seeing what Ms. Lewandowski does next.

Thank you, Ms. Lewandowski!
