Saved by Love (Bellevue Bullies Book 7) by Toni Aleo – Review by Vanessa Watts

Saved by Love (Bellevue Bullies #7)Saved by Love by Toni Aleo
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was amazing from start to finish. The characters are amazing and there is so much depth to them. Plus tackling a hard issue like mental health and for a man to handle it is almost unheard of and yet so realistic and beautifully portrayed.

Evan Adler thought he had it all until it all came crashing down. After medically retiring from the NHL to deal with his mental health issues he moves to his hometown and becomes a physical trainer for the girls gymnastics team. Now this is where Callie enters the picture, as the Universities star gymnast, she fatefully lands in the hands of Evan to tape her ankle. Callie’s fierce love and unending support are the rays of sunshine Evan has needed to clear out his black days. Together they can do anything, even build the future they both envisioned!

I really loved this story of love, heartbreak and challenges to overcome. It is refreshing to break the stigma of male mental health issues and one this author has tackled with superior grace. This is book 7 in the series but they can all be read as single books. I recommend reading them all but if you have to choose then choose this one it is unforgettable!

Queen of Hearts (Heels, Rhymes & Nursery Crimes Vol. 21) By Natalina Reis – Review by Vanessa Watts

Queen of Hearts (Heels, Rhymes & Nursery Crimes, #21)Queen of Hearts by Natalina Reis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I cannot say enough good things about this book. The strong female lead who in a way is a vigilante protecting females from their lying, cheating, abusive men. We have all been there at one point in our lives and dealt with these types of men. This book offers the type of revenge we only wish we could have achieved.

Mimi, our female lead, has had her heart destroyed more times than any woman should. So after being taken in at the gentleman’s club, which just so happens to be a cover to protect women. She alters her identity and thus becomes the Queen of Hearts inviting men who beat her in hearts to her room, she loses on purpose. Once in her room she offers the men a drink that will forever alter their lives and protect future women from them. That is until she meets Jac, a blackmailer, who takes over as her supplier of her wares. However, upon winning and being taken to her room he refuses all she has to offer instead offering a deal she can’t refuse or can she? Things go awry from her as Mimi gets more than she bargained for with Jac. Can she learn to open her heart again to someone new? Or will she let love slip through her fingers because of past heartbreak?

This book gave me serious black widow vibes. It is a quick read and draws you in from the start, hooking you in Mimi’s web of vengeance on terribles males. If you like strong female characters and evil nefarious plots then this book is for you!

No Pistol Tastes the Same (PTSD Disaster Book 1) by Jacob Paul Patchen – Review by Vanessa Watts

No Pistol Tastes the SameNo Pistol Tastes the Same by Jacob Paul Patchen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is like pulling a rusty knife out of your heart with the way it makes you bleed and your insides churn. PTSD is a heavy topic for any author to cover and even harder to read if you know someone who has battled this disease or if you are battling this disease.

It starts out with a pistol in his mouth and traveling down a dark road that is filled with despair and gut wrenching memories. SGT Grimm returns home with some unpleasant memories and a life filled with hatred at himself for feeling guilt over feeling responsible for his friend’s and service members deaths. This is a dangerous path and walking down this alone is often hard to come back from. As if that is not enough JP must also face the impending doomsday as the Earth’s magnetic field is weakened and the flaring sun. Can JP face his nightmares and reconnect with his wife and son before he loses the chance to? Or will the darkness consume his path and join his comrades in the afterlife?

This is a heartbreaking read that isn’t all dark as we do see some happier memories flow through that mix with the sad ones. This book gives insight into what families that face PTSD go through and the thought that no one is immune. This book is magnetizing and if you get the opportunity to pick it up definitely give it a read!

Dark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book Series (A Dark Sparrow Novel) by India Kells – Review by Vanessa Watts

Dark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book SeriesDark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book Series by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is one sexy, sinful box set that keeps you coming back for more. Each book in this set is a different storyline to follow, all the sexy alpha’s who have forged their own path in life and the women that have turned them inside out. I absolutely loved how each of these strong burly men found something in a woman that was so completely opposite of what they are. There is really something about opposites attracting and this author does an amazing job integrating that into her plots. I have made it through each of these books and the only thing I can say is that you need to read them for yourselves. It is so easy for me to regale you with things that happen in each of these books but experiencing them yourselves will allow you to travel on this journey as we find out just what it takes to bring these “bastards” to their knees. If you like romance novels with mystery, intrigue, and combativeness this is the series for you. I could not stop reading these books and you may need a cold shower after following their escapades.

Victoriously Yours (Titans of Manhattan Book 4) by Anise Storm – Review by Vanessa Watts

Victoriously Yours (Titans Of Manhattan #4)Victoriously Yours by Anise Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book has all the feels and the author does a beautiful job at tackling hard circumstances. She beautifully navigates the issue of mental illness with love and understanding. As someone who has a personal battle with mental illness this is a tough issue to read about but I was very appreciative of how the author handled it.

At the start of the book we meet Jonas who has an unfavorable past and a line of conquests a million miles long. He takes on a dare to not only make the unpopular girl more presentable but also to deflower her. Mackenzie thinks that he could be the one until she finds out her transgression has been broadcasted to the entire school and from there it seems her life is on a downward spiral. Jump to the future and both Jonas and Mackenzie have moved on, Jonas as a titan/hotel mogel and Kenzie as a chef just trying to land a huge contract. Unfortunately, fate seems to have other plans as the contract Mackenzie wants just so happens to be working for Jonas, the seemingly devil himself.

Unfortunately there are no winners in this game they play. As secrets are unraveled and the past exposed it seems that the past may not be all it seems. With everything on the line can Jonas and Mackenzie find their happy ever after? Or was their relationship doomed from the start?

As I started reading the book I truly did not like Jonas at all. Not his character or his moral compass. Yet by the end of the book I could begin to understand him more as well as soften up my feelings towards him. That is a feat in and of itself for an author to successfully do. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. If you like mystery, suspense, and what seems like a love gameshow then you will love this book.

The Mastermind (WaterFyre Rising Book 1) by Nadia Han – Review by Vanessa Watts

The Mastermind (WaterFyre Rising, #1)The Mastermind by Nadia Han
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was next to impossible to put down. A new author for me but definitely hit this one out of the park. This has it all billionaires, murder, mystery, and mayhem of the best kind! I am eagerly looking forward to reading the second book in this series.

The dark, mysterious, but uber brilliant Remington Starke has had to fend for himself from a young age. Seemingly having an absent father, evil stepmother, and pretty worthless step brother. Despite everything he manages to make it on his own and build a successful empire acquiring new businesses and revamping them to make them profitable. One of these acquisitions happens to be where Audri Wu works, his best friend’s little sister whom Starke has always had a soft spot for. As the sparks build between them and the secrets slowly leak out trouble rears its ugly head. Can Audri and Remington stay ahead of the nefarious plans of others or will they and their budding relationship fall victim?

This book has more twists and turns than a roller coaster which kept me on the edge of my seat. Who is the good guy and the bad guy when it seems everyone is in it for their own benefit? This is a beautifully written book that you will love reading if you like billionaire romances with a whole bunch of action thrown in.
