Consigliere’s Revenge (Sicilian Gods Book 3) by Via Mari – Review by Vanessa Watts

Consigliere's Revenge (Sicilian Gods Book 3)Consigliere’s Revenge by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely love all these dark mafia romance books, they are some of my favorites to read. This one was exceptional from the get go.

Lorenzo is the consigliere to the Larussio mafia family, whose job it is to ensure the Larussio family maintains their position in the crime world. So when an innocent family member is kidnapped he knows retribution must follow and is planning on how to execute that so everyone knows not to try something like it again. Then in walks Izzy, a reporter who is hell bent on uncovering and reporting all of the mafia’s dirty little secrets. She is not even on Lorenzo’s radar until he spots her in the VIP section of the Larussio property. This becomes a battle of not only attraction but wits as Izzy aims to expose the mafia for what it truly is. The attraction is palpable between them and with Izzy being a thorn in their side she is offered a job to write the stories they want her to publish. It definitely starts out as a love hate relationship that quickly evolves but there are enormous trust issues on both sides. Can Lorenzo trust someone who is determined to air the mafia’s secrets? Can Izzy trust someone whose past is as dark as his eyes? Will they ever be able to find common ground to make a relationship work or is it doomed to fail?

This was an amazingly well written book that I for one could not put down. The characters are well thought out and diverse. The action starts from the very first page to keep the reader immersed and engaged throughout. This book is a keeper and I will recommend it to everyone I meet that enjoys reading any type of book because this has a bit of everything in it!

Healing Kiss by Amanda Uhl – Review by Vanessa Watts

Healing KissHealing Kiss by Amanda Uhl
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Healing Kiss is the first book I have read by this author so I did not quite know what to expect but this was a beautifully written book. Between the mayhem, romance, and emotional heartstrings that are pulled I couldn’t put this one down.

Lillian is a healer, her gifts make her an excellent nurse, but with a gift as valuable as it is they also make her a large target for Kinetica. A large corporation looking to essentially bottle her DNA to use to gain power and make money. Now Hannah, her sister, is gravely ill and after a chance encounter with Tristan, Lillian discovers he is the only one she knows with enough vitality for her to draw off to heal her sister. Tristan doesn’t believe in the supernatural at all but with his own mother dying and other conflicts in his life he strikes a deal with the intriguing nurse. The problem is as their relationship grows their secrets become closer than ever to being discovered. Can they manage to save their loved ones while keeping everyone in the dark about their abilities?

This is a magical, slow burn romance, that had me turning pages until the very last one. There is enough action and events that happen to keep the reader engaged in the story even as they wait for the romance to blossom. I really enjoyed this book and will definitely take a look at others this author has written.

Amy’s Rebellion (Gemstone Massacre Book 1) by Julia Goldhirsh – Review by Vanessa Watts

Amy's RebellionAmy’s Rebellion by Julia Goldhirsh
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Amy’s Rebellion truly brings a whole new twist to the fantasy, mystery, magic genre with an lgbtq+ theme thrown in.

Amy must leave her past behind if they ever truly want a future but soon learns that the past doesn’t always stay there. There are forces that will do whatever is in their power to control Amy, including taking the sister. The only way to escape their control is to fight them and in order to do that they need to build an army. Will Amy ever be free from those that wish to control them? Can Amy find the happily ever after they are searching for?

It is kind of easy to get lost in the book but if you truly read it then it is a wonderful book. Full of action, adventure, romance, and magic that will keep you turning pages to find out what happens next. I like that this book incorporates the LGBTQ+ and gender pronouns of inclusivity that we see today. This was an interesting read and I wonder where the author might take it from here.

A River of Crows by Shanessa Gluhm – Review by Vanessa Watts

A River of CrowsA River of Crows by Shanessa Gluhm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a new author to me and sometimes you just never know what you’re going to get. I am glad I gave Ms. Gluhm a try with this gripping murder mystery tale because I could not put this book down.

We start off cryptically with a water scene and crows but never truly knows who is exactly speaking to us. Then we find out about Ridge and how they suspected he died but never actually recovered the body. Could that be the voice that started off the story? Sloan is hitting a rough spot in her life with her divorce coming to a close and now her mother checking herself out of her facility. Sloan returns to the town she grew up in and the place where they lost her brother. However, she gets more than she bargained for when things regarding her brother’s death don’t add up. Add in another boy’s body being found and Sloan is on the case to solve exactly what happened to her brother. Unfortunately, what she unravels will shock the entire town.

This book is an amazing read that lets you know when secrets come out, they can’t be taken back. It was a gripping read from start to finish and left you trying to figure out exactly what happened. Some characters you love and others you love to hate which is the telling of a great author. I now need to go read her other books because she definitely knocked this one out of the park.
