Scarlet Princess (Lochlann Feuds Book 1) by Robin D. Mahle and Elle Madison – Review by Vanessa Watts

Scarlet Princess (The Lochlann Feuds, #1)Scarlet Princess by Robin D. Mahle
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is my first read in this series and if I hadn’t read the reviews, I might not have known other Lochlann books existed. With that being said I fell in love with the authors writing, character development and scene building.
Rowan is a spitfire princess who seems to do things first and then ask questions later. Depicted as the black sheep of her family, always in trouble alongside her cousin Davin. In their latest escapade they get caught in an enemy kingdom and will be judged for their crimes at a summit of the clans. Lord Theodore is as straightlaced and uptight as they come but through shared moments Rowan seems to break through his outer shell to find the strong, protective, caring man that she never knew she needed.
This is a book that teaches you that you cannot judge a book by its cover. Each story has two sides to it and although you may think you know everything there are always circumstances that you cannot even fathom. This book will take you on an emotional ride with Rowan as she learns that actions have consequences, but it is important to uphold your morals. Can Rowan and Theodore overcome generations of hate so they can have a future together? Will her future even last past the summit meeting of the clans? You have to read this book to find out but I promise this is one journey you’ll be glad you took!

TAINTED by Marsha R. West – Review by Vanessa Watts

TaintedTainted by Marsha R West
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Tainted I felt was a must read after reading the description and I fell in love immediately. The story is quick to draw you in with Sarah getting woken up by the FBI looking for documents her ex-husband stashed inside her house. We quickly learn who the bad guy in the story is but even knowing the information she manages to keep you hooked, on the edge of your seat waiting to find out what happens next. Her descriptive characters allow the reader to picture them in their mind and the scenic description in Red River makes you feel like you are walking the town with the main character.
The author makes you pull for Matt and Sarah to rekindle the romance they had in high school. And for the sexy marshal to pin down who is behind the threat on her life. The author pulls you in to the drama knowing Matt is trying hard to protect Sarah especially after losing his wife to a deadly disease. This book will have you on the edge of your seat and may provoke sleepless nights as you fight to read to the very end. I cannot recommend this book enough and am so very glad this author came across my radar as I was searching for a new book to get lost in.

Journeys Through TimeSpace (Journeys Through Book 2) by James Talisman – Review by Vanessa Watts

Journeys Through TimeSpaceJourneys Through TimeSpace by James Talisman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The second installment by James Talisman is a fantasy masterpiece. It starts you off in the middle of the action where the first book ended and keeps you yearning for more. It draws you in to want to keep reading just to find out what happens next.
It continues following the journey of the three young college students who were destined to find each other and complete this journey to discover their higher destiny. Will they be able to master their gifts and complete their predetermined destiny? On the opposite side is a secret group that serves master Hades and yet for some reason in this book his followers are not able to communicate with him. But then a new character comes into play that serves to take Hades’ place. In this new storytelling of good versus evil who will prevail? Will this new character bring success or destruction?
I am not usually a science fiction fan but the character development and story telling in this book drew me in right from page 1. I just had to keep reading to find out what happens next and if you’re interested in a new read then I encourage you to take this journey too.

The Arsonist’s Handbook by L.A. Detwiler – Review by Vanessa Watts

The Arsonist's Handbook: A Gripping Psychological ThrillerThe Arsonist’s Handbook: A Gripping Psychological Thriller by L.A. Detwiler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a read by an author I have never read before, and honestly, I didn’t know what to expect. However, I was hooked from the first page, often find myself missing out on sleep just to read more of this book.
The characters are wonderfully developed and so well thought out that at time this was a hard read just because it was so real. You follow Jameson who is trying to connect to the author of a book he finds in the attic and his journey through several revelations and uncovered secrets.
Then there’s Pete and coming to terms with his marriage falling apart, having an affair, and a great tragedy that turns his world upside down. Will revenge be enough to help him move forward? Or will it send him spiraling down a dark path?
There were so many twists and turns in this book that leave you guessing on how everything might end. It was very easy to get lost in the lives of these characters and become invested in each of their stories. Will anyone come out unscathed? You’ll have to read the book to find out but it is definitely worth it!

Motherland (The Tom Grant Series Book 3) by Samantha Adair – Review by Vanessa Watts

Motherland (Tom Grant #3)Motherland by Samantha Adair
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a new author to me, and I came across the book in a search and the description pulled me in so I thought I’d give it a go. Best decision ever, this book took me on such a rollercoaster ride of emotions I lost several hours of sleep because I just had to finish.
We start off meeting Tom who seems like your average joe until Isabella comes back from a London trip without letting anyone know. They seem to fit right back together in the relationship they had before she left for London after dealing with the passing of her father. Which is where she made a promise that may just cost her more than she is willing to give.
Isabella and Tom head back to Isabella’s homeland where something isn’t quite right. Mysterious circumstances bring her once childhood friend back into her life, but he is not the same boy she knew before. He makes her go back into a life she was over that she refused to ever do again with the threat of violence against Tom.
Will they both make it out of the motherland alive and unscathed? You just have to read this page turner to find out, but it is worth the read!

Turning Wheels (Satan’s Devils MC #1) by Manda Mellett – Review by Vanessa Watts

Turning Wheels (Satan's Devils MC, #1)Turning Wheels by Manda Mellett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a new author for me but after reading the description I decided it was worth the read. My gamble payed off big time as I was hooked from the first page unable to put this book down. I mean sexy bikers, damsels in distress, and a known and unknown threat I was bought in from the beginning and am very interested in reading the whole series.
The beginning couple of chapters are a difficult read that took me through a myriad of emotions. After being a good friend Sophie finds herself the victim with no real closure on who was at fault. Why her? Throughout this book she must come to terms with her new physical abilities and the author really made this character so relatable to what most of us would go through if the same thing had happened to us.
Enter her knight in not so shining armor sent by her friend Zoe to protect her from being used as a pawn in her ex’s dangerous game. Relying on some friends that have a code not to harm women or children Horse takes Sophie to a Biker’s gang in the states that he hopes is out of range of the threat back home. Here she meets Wraith who has sworn off women and doesn’t even want to consider having an old lady. This falls on par with Sophie’s way of thinking I mean after all she feels no man would want to be shackled to someone with so many disabilities.
With the attraction between Wraith and Sophie building will they forgo their original thinking? Can anyone make Wraith settle down? How close is the real threat to Sophie? Are the Satan’s Devils able to protect Sophie from enemies foreign and those close to home? You will have to read this book to find out more, but trust me take the leap you absolutely will not regret it!

MORNIN THE SUPER BIRD – FINDS A WAY TO FIGHT EXTINCTION by JULES HEARTLY – Review by Vanessa Watts

Mornin The Super Bird : Mornin Finds a Way to Stop ExtinctionMornin The Super Bird : Mornin Finds a Way to Stop Extinction by Jules Heartly
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is such a wonderful, cute, kid friendly book that will have children and adults engaged in the message of fighting extinction. Not just that it is happening but ways to change our behaviors and improve how we take care of the planet.
This is a beautifully written and illustrated children’s book with an easy storyline to follow and bright colors that draw the eye in. Mornin works hard to not only engage other birds but kids as well. It allows kids the confidence to start a conversation of change and moving forward. That though they be little they are mighty. This would be a wonderful book for children’s groups looking at a service project to complete like with scouts or youth groups, but really any child. Small changes can lead to big impact!

Carnival of Shadows (Black Water Magic Book 2) by Leslie Scott – Review by Vanessa Watts

Carnival of Shadows (Black Water Magic #2)Carnival of Shadows by Leslie Scott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was a new read for me, outside of my usual choices, however I could not put it down. I think it caused many sleepless nights and itching to continue reading through to the end. The characters were wonderfully developed and portrayed, so much so I could picture them in my head. If you are looking for an action packed, magic filled, roller coaster ride that will have you laughing one minute and crying the next while keeping you on the edge of your seat this is it!
This book pulls you in from the very first page with Teagan helping a teenage witch discover her abilities while attempting to reign in her own emotions after losing her grandmother. She must go through the trials and tribulations of dealing with loss all while trying to get a handle on taking over her inheritance and discovering what exactly comes with being the swamp witch. This is brought to the breaking point when the carnival comes to town, that is bent on destroying what she has built. Is what Teagan’s grandmother taught her enough? Can she find a way to protect all her charges without losing herself in the process? Will the residents of Firewater Springs make it out unscathed? No spoilers given here, you’ll have to read to find out but I assure you that it is well worth the journey!

Bound by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops Series Book 2) by Amy McKinley – Review by Vanessa Watts

Bound by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops, #2)Bound by Secrets by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After falling in love with the first book how could I not chase the paths of Xander’s brothers. Though these are stand-alone books they do weave together the characters that you come to know and love through the series. This book made me laugh, cry, and get angry at some of the characters and if that isn’t the telling of a good book then I do not know what is.
Kayla returns to her hometown after a life-threatening experience with her abusive boyfriend, hoping to hide away for a while and letting things blow over. What she doesn’t expect is to see her past crush, one-time lover Jaxon. She is soon forced to face not only her feelings for the Ex-Navy Seal but also the past tragedy of losing her brother.
