This was not my typical read but I still enjoyed it! This historical romance has everything from action to steamy romance. This is a fast paced read with strong characters especially Anna. I really enjoyed the world building and the author’s writing style. There is definitely a good balance between the overall plot and the romance. I will say there are some situations in the story that may be triggering to some who are SA survivors. I enjoyed the story but did struggle reading those parts but they are important to the storyline.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I just finished this book and let me tell you that I didn’t want to put it down! Of course I had to many, many times for normal life stuff, but every free chance I got, I grabbed it to read a little more. One chapter at a time I slowly finished it. Not because it was slow going, but because I was just crazy busy this week! If I had the time I’m sure I would have finished it within a day or two. Aubrianne (aka Anna) isn’t prepared for her marriage to Lord Roger of Stolweg. The fantasy of a loving home and husband is dashed away as soon as they arrive at the Keep. He’s so cruel to everyone when he’s home and frequently gone to unknown places otherwise. He’s hiding something and she and her new found friends (the servants that keep Stolweg running) fear him and his plans. She knows that her life will be coming to an end soon, just like his first wife. Roger only had two uses for her. Breeding horses and providing him with an heir. She starts a breeding program that flourishes, but providing an heir not so much. When the stable boy is tied to a post for lashes, Anna jumps in and takes his lashes for herself, not realizing that she fuels Roger’s sadist’s desires more. He becomes increasingly ugly and sadistic to her and she has the scares to prove it. Uncovering what he is up to and killing him before he kills her are her focus. When the Royal Guard show up unannounced to look into her husband and his dealings with forbidden realms, she fears she may have missed her chance. Larkin, one of the guards there to investigate Lord Roger, realizes that he knows Anna from years before. He caught her sneaking about court and he’s never been able to forget her since. Unfortunately for her, if her husband is punished for the treason they suspect, she could very well be implicated and put to death as well. Larkin’s gut tells him more is happening at the Keep, but how can he prove it? It’s a race to figure out what Roger is up to and stop him before it’s to late. Lord Roger or the King himself will be the end of Anna if she’s not careful. This book will have you on your toes! Trust me, it is that good! I was sad for Anna, but also wished the best for her and all the Keep’s people. Well, not Roger and some of his men, but the rest of them! I can not wait to read more of this series!! If you like epic fantasies, hot romances, murder, secret passages, love and war, and of course horses you will fall in love with this book too!

Wild Lavender: A Fated Lovers Epic Romantasy (Heart & Hand Series Book 1) by Nicole E. Kelleher- 4 out of 5 stars

First book in the Heart and Hand Series and boy did it not disappoint. This book is a historically fantasy with castles, kingdoms, warriors, and secrets. So many great elements for this second chance medieval romance novel. I can not wait to see what else this author has in store for the future of this series. I recommend this read.

Wild Lavender (Heart & Hand, #1)Wild Lavender by Nicole E. Kelleher
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From the beginning of Wild Lavender, I was kept on my toes, wondering what was going to happen next. The prologue had me hooked and only got better from there. Wild Lavender has a little bit of everything. First, it’s more of a period piece, set around Medieval times, so the views on marriage and loyalty are a little different. Second, the sadistic, cruel actions of Anna’s husband Roger might elicit a trigger warning. However, I think this part is necessary in the storyline to show the hardships and misery Anna endures and overcomes. The book also has danger, adventure, romance, politic, and a bit of the mystical. The characters are realistic, flawed, believable, and loveable (even those we love to hate). Overall, Nicole E. Kelleher’s world building is top notch, from her vivid physical descriptions of the kingdom to the often heartbreaking accounts of the characters’ thoughts and feelings. I can’t wait to read the next book in the Heart and Hand Series!

Wild Lavender (Heart & Hand Series Book 1) by Nicole E. Kelleher is a great fantasy romance

Nothing will stop Lady Aubrianne from defending the people she loves as a healer and covert warrior. She discover the reason behind her evil husband’s frequent absences with the help of her closest friends. She prepares for the worst and works quickly to avoid being connected to his nefarious deeds.Larkin, a second-born aristocrat, becomes tired of his arrogant behavior. Larkin seizes the opportunity to look into the king’s accusation of treason against the wealthy Lord Roger. He soon finds out that the woman who has been appearing in his nightmares for years is actually Roger’s wife. He must now decide what will happen to Lady Aubrianne. The penalty for involvement is death.

Every page had you hanging on every sentence and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen. It is a very unique story with even compelling people. The story really transports you into this world. I couldn’t put the book down.

This was an enjoyable read. I got hooked from the start and had a hard time putting it down. This story has so much going on like romance, angst, violence, murder, love, politics and so much more. This author did a great job writing a story that was intriguing and left me wanting more. Lady Aubrianne was such a strong character that I found myself rooting for her from the start. Lack and Aubrianne go through many ups and downs throughout this book. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. I recommend reading this book.

Aubrianne “Anna” was given an arranged marriage with Lord Roger but his cruelty once they married was horrific. She could have cowered and survived, but she is a woman with a plan. Gaining the trust of others around her she vows to protect them even as Lord Roger of Stolweg does his best to break her.

Larkin, is the nephew of the Queen. He is a man who enjoys women but does not want the entanglement then a night in bed. As questions begin to arise about Lord Roger and his leadership is questioned everything changes and when he meets Anna his life takes a turn he was not expecting.

This was really good. I thought it was unpredictable and was really impressed with Anna’s character. Really well written had a little bit of everything I would expect from a book like this. Definitely reading the next chapter.

This was a wonderful fantasy story that I was intrigued by the beautiful cover and decided to dive right in. I love the feels this book gave me with romance, love, kingdoms, powers, lineages, power and secrets…very enjoyable and very well written. I look forward to reading more….

When Aubrianne is betrothed to to Lord Roger of Stolweg, at first Aubrianne is believe this would be a good thing, as Lord Roger is putting on a good face, but Aubrianne learns real quick how cruel and ugly Lord Roger really is. Aubrianne love her people and they love her in return. Her only solice is when he leaves for long periods of time for reasons unknown. When Larkin is set to task if Lord Roger is committing treason, Larkin is out to prove is this is true…but does not realize the woman that Lord Roger is married to Larkin met before and never forgot her. Will Larkin find out any truth to Lord Roger and his treason and is Aubrianne involved in anyway…or will Larkin keep Aubrianne safe…

I love Aubrianne in this story…her resilience and how strong she is …I love a strong heroine.

This is definitely different than my normal reads because I usually stay away from romances set in the past/outlander/historical romance type reads BUT I am very glad I picked this one up! It sucked me right in and kept turning page after page. The story was very fast paced and I liked the authors writing style. Anna is the MC and she was awesome. She makes the best of her situation gets stronger and stronger as the story goes on even though she has every reason not too. I am very glad I got to read this story and I am looking forward to reading more by this author in the future!
Happy reading!

This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster! Lady Ann Aubrianne went through great lengths to protect the ones she loves. She questions her husband when he starts disappearing for unknown reasons, and hopes that it won’t have dangerous implications. Larkin who is a royal guard has been having these dreams about this mystery woman, whom he met many years ago. When he meets her again, the sparks seem to fly. This historical romance had me on the edge of my seat the entire time I as reading. I can’t wait to read the other books in this series!

Not only is this book cover beautiful but the story itself is so good. I cannot wait to continue this series! Kelleher has such a beautiful way of eloquently writing her story. Female lead character, Anna, goes on with her life as planned with a quick marriage to Lord Roger. She thought she was going into a marriage of love but it is quite the contrary. Her husband treats her poorly and disappears randomly quite often. Then, there is Larkin, who is a member of the Royal Guard, and had a previously chance meeting. Meeting now again, they help each other as well as develop deep romantic connections. I absolutely loved fantasy, romance, castles with secret passages, etc.

Wild Lavender (Heart & Hand Series Book 1) by Nicole E. Kelleher – Review by Paloma Fierro 10/6/23

Anna, Lady Aubrianne, lives in a world where wars have marked the landscape of politics and economics, but for her born and raised to be a queen none of this seems to take  importance. She will do what her duty to her country and father expects of her, even marry a complete stranger whose evil schemes will touch her.

Larkin son of a noble, whose pride was greater than the love for his mistress or wife, is warrior trained with soldiers that defend his aunt’s realm from the incessant proving of other countries. To him life is about being the best you can be and enjoy what it may put on your way, but after an encounter with a mysterious lady his passion has been redirected.

A story full of adventure, passion and medieval folklore this book takes you by the hand to an unreal world of fantasy. Wild Lavender (Heart & Hand Series Book 1) by Nicole E. Kelleher – Review by

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first book in the Heart and Hand series and what a start, I could not put this book down! Even at almost 450 pages, it was too short I needed more, especially being part of one of my favourite genres – historical fantasy romance.
I enjoyed the way in which the book was written; I found it easy to follow and flowed well. The descriptive world creation allowed me to feel immersed in the book, stepping into the pages alongside the characters easily.
I absolutely loved Anna, she’s so strong in the face of her arranged marriage and the secrets and ‘unpleasantries’ (to put it nicely) surrounding her husband. She’s capable, gifted and ahead of her time in many ways, becoming more determined at every instance of cruelty from Roger. I felt so bad for her, she had such hope only for it to be dashed away, but I was so happy to see how she rose above and was rooting for her possible second chance with Larkin.
I loved this book, but I will state that it is not for everyone. Trigger warning – Do not read this if you are not able to read about sexual sadism and just straight up violent cruelty.
I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series!

Wild Lavender (Heart & Hand Series Book 1) by Nicole E. Kelleher. This is a great fantasy romance. Its set in in the Kingdom of Aurelia and Anna is from Chevring where her family is known for having war horses Anna at 18 marries Roger due to her father basically bartering her to him and at first seems perfectly happy but as time goes on she sees him less and less. She becomes suspicious of his being gone and what he is doing. While he’s not cheating on her he is making choices she would not approve of. Anna becomes happier with Roger gone than when he is home. Anna often thinks of the man she met when she was 16, Larkin. He was gentle and kind and was the kind of man she wanted to marry. Larkin has thought about Anna for years but could never find her. Then he is told that he has to investigate Roger for Treason he finds her again. Will Anna be able to finally find real love and be treated the way she should be? I loved this amazing book!

Wild Lavender (Heart & Hand Series Book 1) by Nicole E. Kelleher – Review by Stephanie Runyon

Wild Lavender (Heart & Hand, #1)Wild Lavender by Nicole E. Kelleher
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Nicole Kelleher ‘s Wild Lavender is a second chance romance set in medieval times when women were often considered property, Anna had run into Larkin one night years ago- both held that moment in their thoughts. Larkin wanted to see her again but nobody knew Anna. In court her formal name of Aubrianne was used.

Anna was part of an arranged marriage to Roger of Stolweg. As part of her dowry, was her knowledge of Chevlain horses. However, Anna’s fairy tale marriage thoughts come crashing down when Roger was forceful with taking her maidenhood. His abuse didn’t all fall upon Anna, as he often targeted his servants too. When the stableboy,Will, was tied to a post for 15 lashes, Anna intervened and took 9 lashes in his place. Grainne, her lady’s maid, helped Anna with teas that would prevent pregnancy, healing balms and sleep aids preventing Roger from physically harming her. However, the beatings continue and Anna plans to escape after killing Roger.

Meanwhile, Roger has garnered attention from the Royal Guard. Larkin believes the appearance of Chevlain Destriers at Stolweg was part of an elaborate plan against King Godwin. Therefore, Larkin joins Captain Baldric, Warin, Trian, Tomas, and Ailwen as they ride to Stolweg to determine if Roger will be charged with treason and murder,

The perspective of this story is told from multiple well-developed characters. The journeys of each group are written in detail. This made it easy to envision the surroundings. The flow of the story was easy to follow. However, I think the constant turmoil between Larkin and Anna was somewhat tedious. I would happily rate Wild Lavender 4 stars.

Ooooh, I loved Anna and Larkin. The chemistry was amazing between them. Not to mention, fate is intervening here. Now, this book is a slow burn. Anna finds herself in somewhat of an arranged marriage and not with our hero. This isn’t a spoiler because it happens right in the beginning. I will say I felt some disappointment that she wasn’t going to be with hero right from the beginning. But this story isn’t just a romance. In fact, the start is somewhat of a rough read. I found myself engrossed as Anna weathered the storms. In these times, we see just how strong she is. I love the mystery of the castle, the feeling of “espionage” but not really in a traditional sense, and the love the people started to feel for Anna. I had trouble putting this book down because I needed to feel Anna was safe. Amazing writing! I was hanging on every word!

Captivating sorry line
This is the first book in the Heart & Hand Series and the first I have read from this author. It is an intriguing historical fantasy romance based in a world made up of realms. There is a little bit of everything in this book -from heartache to love, war to hope, politics to prophecy and so much more. The writing is well paced and executed well. I would have liked a bit more focus on the magic and a bit less focus on the drama but that’s just my preference.
Recommend.

I was shocked when I learned that this is the author’s first book. I cannot recommend it more highly! It is beautifully written and so easy to get lost in. This historical fantasy romance is perfect for curling up on the couch with a blanket and just losing yourself in the pages. The characters are interesting and relatable, and I could not help but be intrigued by Anna’s story with Roger and then Lark. This book does involve mature themes but was not a problem for me. I found that every aspect of the story made the world that much richer in my mind’s eye. You will find a little bit of everything in this book, and I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Wild Lavender is the first book in the Heart & Hand series. It’s a beautiful historical fantasy romance with a heroine who resists society’s expectations of her. Adventurous and inquisitive Lady Aubrianne is an enjoyable character, and her love of horses will make her particularly appeal to animal fans out there!

There is, of course, a strong romance story in this book established from the outset where a chance encounter brings Larkin and Aubrianne into each other’s lives. But there is also plenty of action and mystery adding layers to the story!

There are plenty of great characters in this book! One of my favourites is Gilles, the stablemaster. It takes time for Aubrianne to win his trust, but as she and we get to know him he definitely grew on me!

This book gets five stars from me, and I’m keen to read more of the series. I would recommend it to fans of mediaeval fantasy romance, particularly if you love horses!

This book was a great fantasy romance, one of my favorite styles to read. Nicole E. Kelleher has a way with words that paint a picture of excitement, intrigue, and of course romance. The characters of the book are created with expertise, they are so dynamic, that you feel strongly about who you like and who you distrust. This book had me on the edge of my seat, I couldn’t put the book down the second I picked it up, I was encompassed with the characters’ circumstances and needed to know the outcome of their stories. If you love magic, romance, passion, war, and deep storylines then this is the story for you! I almost didn’t pick this book up. I am ever so glad that I did though!! This book has elements that I love in a great story. There is mystery, intrigue, romance, horses, castles, Lords and Ladies, and more!

This book sucked me in from the very beginning. I instantly fell in love with Lady Aubrianne and her assertiveness as a young lady. Her mysterious meeting in the hallway started it all. Then there was the wedding that lacked all the luster a girl has ever dreamed of on her special day, not to mention the cold shoulder of her new husband. Lord Roger was an enemy of mine from the get-go!

The writing in this book is masterfully done, especially considering this is the author’s debut book. I do look forward to going on more adventures with Nicole E. Kelleher in the near future!

Wild Lavender: A Fated Love Fantasy Romance (Heart & Hand Series Book 1) by Nicole E. Kelleher – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur.

Wild Lavender (Heart & Hand, #1)Wild Lavender by Nicole E. Kelleher
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lady Aubrianne is a young lady who is no stranger to duty, but her upbringing was full of love and honour, so when she is married to a wealthy Lord, she is hoping for the same thing, however, he seems to be quite upright and polite in all of their interactions and when they are wed, however, on their travels to his home, there is no passion, unlike her only taste from when she was younger. Larkin is a young man who is the second son of a wealthy family and so has the freedom to do whatever he wishes, including playing games with the ladies within his families court, however, one encounter changes things for him and although he never saw the woman again and didn’t have chance to even giver his name, it is something he has never forgotten.

As soon as Lady Aubrianne enters her husbands keep, she has a feeling that something isn’t quite right, it is too quiet and there is nobody to welcome her, but she still does not let that bother her when she is shown to her room and asked to prepare for her husband to visit her once she has freshened up, but her experience is not one of a love filled marriage, it is not what she prepared herself for and nothing like her imaginations, but she has some support from her lady in waiting, even if it starts off as distant. As the time passes and a routine is established, Lady Aubrianne begins to befriend the servants, especially while her husband is away, which he frequently is and this is where she finds out what struck her when she arrived and she is determined to help those around her, so she uses her unconventional upbringing to her advantage, especially when her talents as a healer are needed and this continues, albeit in a more secretive manner when his lordship is around.

Larkin is up to his old tricks and competing with his best friend at the same time, but his mystery lady is always at the back of his mind, however, when he is given the chance to investigate a certain Lord Roger due to some suspicions of treason and misuse of his prosperity, the last thing he expects is to see his mystery women living with him as his wife, but not as surprised as Lady Aubrianne is to see him. As Larkin’s investigations continue, Lady Aubrianne is doing her own investigating as to what her husband has been doing on his trips, mainly so she can stop him before she is drawn even deeper into his plans, so when she is confronted by Larkin about her complicity, she agrees to help him, but only if he helps her in return. As the two become closer, can they work out what Lord Roger is doing and who is also complicit in his machinations, or will they find themselves in deep trouble and dangerous waters? This is an action packed fantasy adventure which spans countries and kingdoms to bring justice to those doing wrong with a romantic undertone which will leave you wanting more as you read along to its conclusion.
