The Missing Red Envelopes by Yobe Qiu – Review by Nichole Chrisman

The Missing Red EnvelopesThe Missing Red Envelopes by Yobe Qiu
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a great book for early chapter book readers. It follows two sisters celebrating Chinese New Year and trying to solve the mystery of what happened to Weina’s red envelopes. This book helps readers learn about how a different culture celebrates New Year, their traditions, and explore a mystery at the same time! This was very engaging and a quicker read if you are reading it to someone. Very cute!

The Missing Red Envelopes is a fun and engaging read with wonderful illustrations to go along with the story. This book is more toward ages 7-12 but can truly be enjoyed at any age…not only did my great nieces and great nephew enjoy this story but I learned something about the customs of the Lunar New Year as well.

Lorie and Weina are celebrating the Lunar New Year with family as this is a special holiday to celebrate and this includes the gifting of special red envelopes…but when they go missing…Lorie and Weina need to retrace their steps to find their envelopes as they have special plans with the contents inside.

This is a wonderful story..and I highly recommend.

Wonderful book. I love reading about other cultures and traditions. The pictures along with the book are beautiful and make the story that much more interesting. It is so nice to hear that the children are able to get out of school to celebrate the Lunar New Year. The tradition of family members handing out red envelopes with money to the children in their family is such a cool part of many Asian cultures. It is especially sweet that the sisters are wanting to save to spend their money on someone other than themselves. The sisters work together to find their lucky envelopes that were left behind, and Lorie as the oldest sister feels it is on her to protect Weina and solve the mystery. I love the patience she shows her sister even in the face of losing all the red envelopes, she didn’t yell at her sister she calmly talks it out. I wish I could have seen them buy the jade bracelet in the end!

What a neat children’s story. It tells about the custom of the Red Envelopes that is part of the Lunar New Year. The illustrations are pretty. I found it was a neat way to teach a child about other cultures. I read this to my granddaughter and she really enjoyed it. She loved the story so much that I’ll be getting a paper copy for our family library.

This is a cute little story. I enjoyed how it made affirmations for the little boy that allowed him to have good feelings about himself. I think this would be very nice for a lot of kids who feel differently about themselves and their heritage. I hope that anyone, not just an Asian kid would be able to be inspired by this story. I recommend it to anyone who has ever had the feeling that they are different and that they don’t fit in.

This is such a sweet and brilliant book that is design to reaffirm a child’s belief in themselves. Although the book focuses on a young Asian boy, the affirmations can easily be applicable to all children. In today’s world, children rarely seem to get to hear how well they are doing, and how great they are. This book is perfect for reinforcing that concept and is a great book to read together as a family.
I read this with both of my children and they each seemed to take away different things from it. This is a fantastic book that I would urge everyone to read.

I Am A Bold Asian Boy (Asian Family Series) by Yobe Qiu. This is such a sweet story about a Asian boy who is struggling with who he is. It has positive affirmations that little boys can resonate with. The little boys lists all the things he is good at and what he can do. Its geared toward Asian boys but can be reworded in a small way to include all kids. It talks about all the positive ways cultural difference can be great. This book is a great way for kids to get a head start on knowing their worth and not going down the rabbit hole of self doubt and no confidence! The pictures are really awesome too. This book would make a great gift for the young child in your life!

I wish there were affirmation books like this when I was younger. This book is diverse and showcases the numerous characteristics that one can be.

I really enjoyed the illustrations as well.

‘I am bold, big hearted, brave, brillant, balanced, blessed, beautiful, bilingual, and bountiful. I’m all of these and more.’

What a way to bring the whole book full circle!

I’m a fairly new Headstart Assistant Teacher and we have been studying different cultures in children. I was thrilled to find this book and read it. The story helps teach affirmations, shows positivity, and teaches children that their culture does matter. I plan to read this story soon enough to the kiddos in our class. I’ve recently learned there is also a female version too.

Quick Affirmations for Children is a wonderfully written children’s book that children ages 3-6 will enjoy reading. This teaches children positivity, helps them to be brave, happy and confident. This is a fairly new children’s author to me and I’m definitely going to check out what other books they have. My five year old son loved this book so much we read it four times in row. The illustrations are colorful and tell their own story. We are learning to work through our emotions and this definitely helped. I highly recommend reading this book and we look forward to reading more from this Author.

I really loveeeee this! Omg I got the digital copy, but you better believe I will be buying a hard copy. Especially because at the end of the book there are multiple pages that the author was fantastic enough to put in so you could write your own affirmations. I have read this a couple time already with my little one and it still grabs the attention and enthusiasm just like the first time 🥰🤣 I make it fun so it will help my little one remember. I look forward to enjoying more of this Author’s work.

I love everything about this book! The illustrations are absolutely beautiful, and the affirmations are short for kids to be able to remember if they aren’t looking at it. My 8- and 11-year-old had a blast saying/singing these to each other and made it a fun game as well. Little ones already have so much going on with their emotions and finding themselves that affirmations can help build their self-esteem and mindfulness. I enjoyed these even as an adult! I highly recommend picking this up and sharing it with the younger (and not so young) people in your life.

Quick Affirmations for Children (Quick Affirmations Series) by Kim Ann & Yobe Qiu. This is such a awesome book for children aged 3-6. Life is so hard anymore especially for kids who have had to deal with this crazy world we live in. This is a book with affirmations starting with the ABC’s. Its easy for kids to understand and it lifts them up. My 5 year old nephew lived thru COVID and started school shortly after so he has a lot of anxiety. This book has helped him immensely. The pictures are vibrant and so cool, he loves it so much. It also promotes other learning tools such as vocabulary. The discussions at the end of each day is amazing. I loved this book so much I bought the Affirmations for Women! Such a great book for your child’s library and would make a great gift.

This book makes it easy for children to do just that, it has an easy-to-read affirmation for each letter of the alphabet and fun illustrations to go with them.

It is easy to understand and will build confidence both mentally and educationally with some great words in the phrases created that all ages could enjoy.

I read this book along with my three-year-old, and we both love it! This has become one of her go-to books that she will request at any time of day. I love the concept of affirmations using the alphabet, and the illustrations are vibrant and eye-catching. I will read each page, and she will echo each affirmation loud and proud! My favorite part of the book is the discussion each page can provoke. For example, if it says “I am helpful to others,” we can then talk about a time she was helpful to someone that day or things she could do TO be helpful. Just the other night, she got to pick what we had for dinner. I told her that was a wonderful idea (spaghetti!) and she replied, “I have UNIQUE ideas!” And my heart melted…So, it promotes vocabulary, too! I whole-heartedly recommend this book. It is delightful and a breath of fresh air for anyone of any age! Five stars!
