Another great story from a wonderful author. My kiddos love it when we get to read these together, and this was no different! I loved that this was more based on STEM than some others. Both of my kids (7 and 11) enjoyed reading this and sparking conversations on finding solutions and how you can make a bad decision without fully realizing. The illustrations are incredible, and I feel they definitely add more to the story. While you can read this as a standalone, I highly recommend picking up others in the series for the young ones in your life because they are all amazing!

Zibs for Sale is part of the I am an Alien series, but it can be read without reading them all. The story focuses on Shirl and her alien friend Eee-ahh. I read this with my 7 year old son, taking turns reading the pages. It is good for that age group. We did not really see it as a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, but looking back and trying to see it from that perspective, I guess I can see it. Eee-ahh tells Shirl how amazing Zibs are (they seem kind of like cupcakes) and they go to find them from the best bakery in the galaxy. Shirl takes one to taste, essentially stealing it, and then is put to work by the baker to repay her debt. Shirl tries to pay human money, but the baker doesn’t want it. He goes above and beyond with his tasks, but then the book has a surprise happy ending. Overall we enjoyed the book, and it was our favorite in the series. I love the creativity of the author and the colorful illustrations. Good for young elementary or preschool age kiddos.

Zibs for Sale:(I am an Alien) by Lois Wickstrom. Its not secret that this author is my favorite children’s author. I loved this book just as much as I’ve loved all the others. In this tale we meet Shirl and Eee-aah again and go on another fun adventure with them. When Shirl wants to introduce Eee-aah to her favorite snack Zibs they set out to find them. When they do find them Shirl doesn’t have any money so she steals them. When she is caught she has to work to pay off her fine. There are always lessons in these great books and this one has a STEM lesson involved. Such a fun, educational book for kids age 4-8. Would make a great gift!

Another adventure with Eee-ahh and Shirl. This one started with them picking up a radio signal, a song for the Zib Spiral and their treats. While Eee-ahh tastes with her eyes, Shirl is human and tastes with her tongue. Will she think the Zibs are as delicious as Eee-ahh claims they are? They are very beautiful but that’s to the eyes. After a rocky encounter Shirl is given a big payment before they return to Earth.

STEM is important for young people to learn about, and the sooner the better – especially for women and little girls. This book was adorable, had amazing illustrations, and provides a more in depth topic than most other picture books provide. Of course you have the ABC books, the 123 books, and of course the rhyming books, but to have a book published that portrays more than the basics is fantastic. I loved the story line, and the fact that it shows a difference between humans and the outer space aliens takes the book to a whole new level as well. Great read and I highly recommend!

I LOVE this book. The illustrations are gorgeous and of course you can’t go wrong with a girl who loves to fix things. Lois Wickstrom did an amazing job of telling the story of a young girl and her alien friend who get stuck doing chores for another alien. The turning point is when Shirl problem solves a way to fix the aliens ship engine successfully. After completing the task and finishing the chores Shirl is rewarded with a ship of her own. This is a great children’s book – especially for girls to read.

Lois Wickstrom is a magical author that brings life lessons through cute, entertaining stories. This is the third book in her (I am an Alien) series about Shirl and her alien friend Eee-ahh. This book is beautifully illustrated with colorful fun scenes that bring the story to life. In this installment, Shirl and Eee-ahh hear a song through Shirl’s interstellar radio, which starts them on a fun adventure through space. It’s on this adventure that Shirl mistakenly takes a zib thinking it was free and is accused of stealing. This brings up good lesson opportunities on stealing and doing the right thing as Eee-ahh wants to run off and leave without helping the Ba-Kerr (whom Shirl accidentally stole from) as payment for her stealing. I absolutely love these children’s books and Lois Wickstrom is on my automatic buy list.

Shirl and Eee-ahh are on another adventure. So much fun to see where these friends go. Today it is Eee-ahh’s favorite bakery. Zips are Eee-ahhm favorite snack, but will it be Shirl’s? Science is so important and the younger the better. This story is fun and will keep those little minds active. The author has once again brought science and fun to the readers. She has also introduced a new character to the mix. Having done that opens up more conversation as well as educating us on our differences. Way to keep your readers reading and our children interested. No spoilers here as there is so much to discover while reading this open ended book. I hope you enjoy it too.

Shirl and Eee-aah are on another adventure. This time, Eee-aah wants to introduce Shirl to her favorite snack, Zibs. When they locate some, Shirl tries one without paying for it. Baa-Kerr is not pleased and choses to keep Shirl working since she stole from him.

It’s no secret that Lois Wickstrom is one of my favorite authors!! Her stories are great by themselves but add in that there is always some sort of Science/STEM component and that makes them even better! The illustrations are also extremely well done in her books.

I highly recommend this book, along with all her others, for any home library, daycare, school, grandparent’s house, etc!

My niece and I like to read this author’s books. She likes that the pictures go very well with the book. They also learn about science in a fun way. This book takes you into outer space and I can’t wait to read another book from this author with my niece.

Shirl and Eee-ahh are a new adventure but this time they go to our space where Eee-ahh is from. Shirl is so excited to see where Eee-ahh lives until she meets a very mean alien. He knows that Shirl is not one of them and he gives her a hard time. Will Shirl like her visit or will she regret going to outer space?

Shirl and Eee-ahh are back for another exciting fun action-packed adventure. This time Shirl gets to experience the wonders of outer space.
What I also love about this book is that it is a STEM story which is an approach to learning and development for young people. It integrates areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. What better way to educate impressionable minds at an early age.
Along the way Shirl learns that there is more to outer space and rules than she thought. Now she must learn how to solve the little problem of taking something that wasn’t hers.
Zibs for Sale is a Lois’s retelling of an old but true fairytale Beauty and the Beast.
There are bright and colourful pictures that the kids love.

Unfortunately, they run into some problems with Ba-Kerr (the owner) and are forced to work for him. What an interesting tale. The girls go into space for alien fast food. They end up having to do dishes and repair a ship. I like the Fact that even though they have a chance to escape, they stay to do what they promised. It’s a neat story. Bright and colorful illustrations. I felt it taught a lesson about keeping your promise. The author does a nice job of teaching this.

Lois is a former high school chemistry teacher and former head science teacher at Science in the City Summer Camp in Philadelphia. She has also been an adjunct science teacher at University of South Florida. Since retiring, she continues to take science classes. Her class in Forensic Biology led to Little Red, The Detective, in which Red is studying fingerprint identification, so she can tell that “Grandma” isn’t who she says she is.

Lois has taken so many science classes that she believes science is the solution to almost every problem, including the dilemmas in fairy tales. She has invented what she calls Science Folktales. In each science-based tale, the protagonist achieves a better ending than the original because of learning scientific principles. She has turned some of these tales into plays.

She has also created a series of Mermaid Science stories, which make use of water science.

Lois is married to the love of her life. She has two children, four grandchildren and a dog.
